I'm a thriller girl and Witness 8 by Steven Cavanagh is one of the best thrillers I read this year! Full of twists and turns, I couldn't stop reading. Read this now and thank me later!!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.

This story was fantastic! I loved the twists, turns and expected villains! This was a great mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat until the end.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5

Really loving the Eddie Flynn series. I haven't read them in order and it doesn't seem to be too big of a deal, but there are some spoilers in later books (like this one). This is a quick read. I had to know what happened so I was done with it in less than a day and was not disappointed. There's a good bit of action and sure, some of it can seem over-the-top, but Steve Cavanagh makes it intriguing enough that I can look past that.

Recommended for readers who love fast legal thrillers/mysteries.

Thanks to Atria & NetGalley for the ARC.

Eddie Flynn, Eddie Flynn, Eddie Flynn... He just can't stay out of trouble! He takes on a case that puts him on some officers bad side, then a price is put on his head. While trying to dodge these contractors, he is added to the council of a high profile case. The father, a doctor, is accused but maintains that he is innocent. At the same time, there is something off about the babysitter... This was an interesting story, and it was fun to watch it play out from different points of view. I really enjoyed the character of Mr. Christmas!! If you have never read an Eddie Flynn novel, treat yourself. It is a series, but you can read them as standalones and they don't HAVE to be read in order. Personally, I was introduced to the series with book 4. I didn't know it was a series at the time, and it is still one of my favorite reads! Jump in wherever and then grab the rest, you won't regret it. I can't wait for the next one!

I don't think I've ever rated a Steve Cavanagh book less than 4.5 stars. It's like he can't write anything mediocre.....they are all grand slams.

I absolutely LOVED the creepiness of Mr Christmas and Ruby's characters. The nonstop edge of your seat deception, scandals, corruption from start to finish made this a really fast read for me. I really enjoyed some of the characters names as well. Each one had their own personality & story which made it easy to follow despite there being a lot of characters.

The entire Eddie Flynn series is phenomenal....I have read all of them so far and not one has disappointed me. This one was probably one of my favorites in the series because i really did enjoy the characters.

I look forward to more by Steve as he is a literary genius.

Steve Cavanagh is one of the best authors I have recently discovered. Witness 8 is a journey through what might happen if a murder is witnessed, and said witness is more deranged and sinister than the murderer.

Witness 8 is a rare thriller that gives up the who, what, where, and when from the jump. The why will keep you up at night.

Thanks to Atria Books for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Witness 8.

I really enjoy Cavanagh's work - so a 3 star rating for this book is not necessarily negative but more just because i only liked it rather than loved it. To be fair this is somewhat user error on my end as someone who is pretty much burnt out on procedurals and extremely crime-focused stories. Nonetheless, if you enjoyed previous books in this series you'll likely find yourself enjoying WITNESS 8 as well.

Thank you Netgalley and Atria Books for my review copy!

Steve Cavanagh, you have done it again! I did not see that coming AT ALL!! If you are looking for an action packed roller coaster that will have you on the edge of your seat, Witness 8 will not disappoint. The cliff hanger at the end has me feigning for the next one! Well done, Sir, well done!

Eddie Flynn is a well-developed character and the series although well-established by now, was easy to follow for a newcomer. I liked most of the characters and it had some good twists.

I'll be reading more from the author, both standalone works and the Eddie Flynn series.

Thanks to Netgalley & Atria Books for the e-copy!

Finished this last night, took a little longer then expected but is was about 350 pages.
A lot of characters and all had great information and back stories. Loved how they all interacted and were brought together.
The story itself was great and very interesting. Yet kinda predictable. The story with Ruby I definitely figured out early on. But enjoyed continuing because the story was good.

Really hoping for a series on this one. Flynn is a great character and would like a story between Mr Christmas and Ruby.

Definitely recommend

Unfortunately this author is not for me. Everyone seems to love him but I've found his books more offensive than interesting.

Something is wrong with Ruby Johnson...INDEED.

This was my first read by Steve Cavanagh, and I can't wait to dive into more of his work. This story is a psychological thriller, a murder mystery, and a courtroom thriller all in one. Ruby is in an interesting situation. She and her family used to be part of the elite, but now she finds herself working as the maid and babysitter for people in that same circle. One night, she witnesses a murder in the neighborhood. She knows exactly who did it, and should go to the police, but she has other plans. Eddie Flynn, ex-con-artist turned defense attorney, takes on the case of the accused (John Jackson). Can Flynn prove Jackson's innocence?

Witness 8 is a roller coaster! Ruby is a questionable character, and it was fun having her at the center of everything. I loved trying to figure out exactly what she was up to. I also loved Flynn and his team's creativity. They didn't use conventional means, but they got things done. They all had each other's backs, and with trouble knocking on Flynn's door, they are the people Flynn needed. The story is told in multiple points of view, so there were a lot of people for me to keep track of. I likely did myself a disservice by not starting with book one and reading through them in order. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this book and appreciated the twists and turns. If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers that are packed with action and will have you second-guessing your theories, this is a good choice.

Just pure entertainment! This had a little bit of everything - a murder, unreliable characters, rich people behaving badly, courtroom drama, and a John Wick type storyline of a hit being put out on our lead character Eddie Flynn and different assassins coming after him.

It sounds like it would be too much - but in the hands of Steve Cavanagh, it was propulsive and fun and just damn entertaining. This is my second Eddie Flynn novel (I know I'm an animal for going out of order) and I just love this cast of misfits that Cavanagh has created surrounding Eddie. I am here for all the Eddie Flynn books and will continue to devour this author's work.

Author Steve Cavanagh is a master of the spine-tingling thriller, and Witness 8 proves it once again. The first chapter alone gave me actual goosebumps—it’s that gripping from the start.

As with any Cavanagh mystery, nothing is ever as it seems. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, he pulls the rug out from under you. The story weaves together a murder in a wealthy neighborhood, an ex-con lawyer, a mysterious maid, and multiple intersecting plotlines—with more than one villain in play. It’s layered, twisty, and best experienced knowing as little as possible. Truly, go in blind, blind, blind.

I will say the only downside to knowing nothing was that I realized after I started reading the book that it is part of a series that follows defense attorney Eddie Flynn. While it can be read as a standalone, I did occasionally feel like I was missing some context or backstory that might’ve enhanced the experience.

That said, Cavanagh remains a master manipulator of plot and tension. If you're looking for a thriller packed with jaw-dropping twists and edge-of-your-seat suspense, Witness 8 will not disappoint.

Eddie Flynn, con man turned attorney, it’s back to defend a doctor accused of murdering his neighbor. From the first meeting Flynn knows the man is innocent, but has to figure out how to prove it.

I’m not sure why I haven’t been reading all the Eddie Flynn books. They are so good! They lock you in from the start and don’t let go until the last page!

Cannot help but love all that Steve Cavanagh does. When you see the authors name you just KNOW you are in for a twisted and suspenseful ride.
Eddie Fly is at it again. After Ruby Johnson witnesses a murder in her neighborhood, Eddie is forced to defend the accused John Jackson. He just knows deep in his gut that this man is innocent, and something just isn't right with Ruby. This story is so dark and twisted but I found so much joy reading this. Such clever writing by Cavanagh that kept me turning the pages for more.
If you have not read this series, you really need to jump aboard. Besides, who doesn't love an ex-conman turned criminal defense lawyer?

Thank you, Atria Books, Steve Cavangh and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series when I first picked up this book but I didn’t feel like I missed a ton when jumping into this series on book 8.

I’m not the biggest fan of cop / court room thrillers but was very intrigued by Ruby’s story. I truly enjoyed her point of view and wish we got more of her. There were too many POVs in my opinion, which made the story drag a bit. Which is unfortunate as one thing Steve Cavanagh knows how to write is an entertaining story.
Ruby was the most intriguing part of the story and I felt like we didn’t get to explore her back story and motives as much as I would like. I am very excited for a possible continuation of her story in subsequent books, however.

It’s not my favorite thriller and not my favorite Cavanagh book, book it had me hooked and I can’t wait to read more by this author.

My first Steve Cavanagh read and definitely not my last. I appreciated the growth of our main characters through this psychological, twisty tale, and even thought Witness 8 was written as part of a series, I thought this could be read as a stand alone as well.

Thank you to Steve Cavanagh, Atria Books, and NetGalley for my complimentary physical and digital copies. All opinions are my own.

Thank you @atria for this ARC!

Book Goal 2025: 37/130

✨Do you think you would make a decent lawyer? Why or why not?✨

Man… I probably should have realized this was a series. My bad. 😂 I do know it could be read as a stand alone but I can’t believe I just read book 8!!!’ Whoops.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I can see why people like this author. There were a few too many point of views in this one for my liking but I liked the plot and the characters. The plot is very clear in this book which I think some of you would enjoy!

I should probably go read book 1….
