This was my first Steve Cavanaugh novel and first Eddie Flynn novel. I have heard of the series in FB groups and on goodreads, but I hadn't had the chance to try one of the series yet. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and it made me anxious for the man falsely accused of murder. The part of the storyline I didn't like was so much about Eddie's past with the mob and the police mob. It took away from the overall murder mystery story.

The latest book in the Eddie Flynn series but you don't need to read the rest of it to follow along. Like the rest of the books, it has a slow start and a racing exciting ending. Ruby Johnson is working for the rich people on the street where her family lived before their downfall at the hands of her father. She is witness to a murder and devises a plan that does not involve the truth. Eddie Flynn takes the case of the man accused of the murder while also dealing with the hit on his life. There is a lot happening in this book with all the subplots but it all ties together at the end. Eddie's former con man life serves him well in this story and the book starts with what he does best- the courtroom and a con. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for this review.

The Eighth Truth: A Witness in Peril!!!
Thank you NetGallary for an early review copy of Witness8!
Steve Cavanagh delivers another gripping legal thriller in Witness 8, a novel that masterfully blends suspense, courtroom drama, and unexpected twists. Known for his sharp storytelling and ability to craft high-stakes narratives, Cavanagh keeps readers on the edge of their seats with this intricate and fast-paced thriller.
The story revolves around a witness whose testimony could make or break a high-profile case. As the trial unfolds, hidden motives, deception, and dark secrets emerge, turning what seemed like an open-and-shut case into a dangerous game of manipulation. With every chapter, the tension escalates, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.
Cavanagh’s signature blend of legal expertise and psychological depth is on full display. The characters are well-drawn, particularly the protagonist, who navigates a maze of lies and deadly consequences. The dialogue is razor-sharp, the courtroom scenes pulse with intensity, and the plot twists are genuinely shocking.
For fans of legal thrillers, Witness 8 is a must-read. It offers everything one could want—compelling characters, a thrilling mystery, and a conclusion that will leave you thinking long after you’ve turned the last page.
5 Stars! Well done!

Steve Cavanagh is back! After not loving some of his more recent work, Witness 8 had me on the very edge of my seat the entire time. The ending was well pulled off and I highly recommend.

So I did not know that this was a book in a series but that did not impact my ability to understand the story.
This was a fun thriller! Good twists and turns along the way to help keep the reader's interest in the plot.
I would be interested to read the first books in the series.
Thanks Atria books for the ARC. These opinions are my own.

The 8th book in Eddie Flynn series but my first one. I did not feel like I was missing anything starting with book 8. It read as a standalone.
A solid detective style thriller. Though Eddie is a criminal defense attorney not a detective. I enjoyed Eddie's character as well as his team members/friends. Some fun banter between characters - so much so that I ended up liking even the "bad guys" in the book.
The beginning was a bit slow but it did pick up and I finished the last 40% rather quickly. A small twist at the end I did not see coming. And an epilogue I really enjoyed.
Thanks to NetGalley, Atria Books, and Steve Cavanagh for the ARC and chance to give my honest opinion!

pretty fun thriller. i love the vibes of this and the antagonists are really cool and interestingly set up. 4 stars. tysm for the arc.

This was a very interesting psychological thriller! I will say, I did not see the twist coming and it was awesome! Totally unexpected. Very twisty. Along with that, it took a lot to get there and there were a lot of characters that popped up - not all of which I think were necessary.
Overall, I enjoyed this one and don’t feel as though reading the other books in the Eddie Flynn series is necessary.

This is the first book I have read by Steve Cavanagh, and I LOVED it. I read it in two settings, and have ordered the first one to see how this all started.. I was not sure I would like a book about a con man who was a lawyer, but Eddie won me over. The plot was twisted and moved in directions I did not forsee. The supportive characters were interesting, and there was enough humor to caused to chuckle. I highly recommend, Thanks to NetGalley for an arc with no requirement for a positive review.

I love everything Eddie Flynn and I knew I had to snag this ARC. It was so good!! If you love the others in this series you will love this one. This one was slightly different to me but I absolutely loved it!! The ending was great as well.

A twisted tale of murder, mystery, and psychological thriller. Lots of different plot lines and an interconnected web of characters.

Did not finish. The book started very interestingly. I was hooked at the beginning. But there were too much characters introduced too fast there on. Too much information/name dumping too fast

The premise of this one was so interesting— where the witness is actually more twisted than the main villain?! But this had so many characters and so many different crimes to keep track of that it kind of took away from the story line.

Thank you Atria books for the arc of this book!
This was so good. A lawyer who used to be a Conman, and a seriously twisted witness behind the scenes. So many twists and levels to this plot. I had a great time as this one unraveled.

Prepare to enter the world of wickedly unreliable narrator Ruby. Her family has suffered a spectacular fall from grace, and she has gone from being one of the uber rich to working for them. Having to silently bear witness to their dirty secrets and misdeeds, the whole time being invisible, her resentment is building to an explosive level.
When she witnesses one neighbor murdering another, she decides she can use this information to her advantage. And in this, telling the truth doesn’t play a factor.
But she didn’t count on Eddie, a savvy lawyer and former, or maybe not so former, con man who has the uncanny ability to see what others can’t. Especially when it comes to the truth. Especially when it comes to exonerating his falsely accused client.
The author brilliantly depicts the borderline sociopathy of Ruby, her thoughts and actions like those one might expect of a poisonous spider. In opposition the portrayal of Eddie is full on scrapper and savior! I also need to applaud the secondary characters, all alive on the page, none more so than a gentleman assassin who calls himself Mr. Christmas.

I really enjoyed this one! Eddie Flynn is such a great unique and original character. He’s easy to get invested in. I love the fast paced twisty plot and hopefully there will be more for this series! Well written and overall will be recommending to everyone

Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the advanced e-book to review!
While this was technically book 8 in a series, it was well constructed to the point where I did not feel as though I was missing anything for not having read the rest of the books. Don’t be afraid to just pick this one up and jump in!
This read like an episode of a longstanding crime tv show, the kind that’s always on tv that you can just flick on with no context and it’s a standalone story you can enjoy without knowing any of the main characters too deeply because everything you need to know about them is contained in the episode.
Think a Criminal Minds episode but for fans of Saul Goodman.
I liked this one, but more as the perfect book to grab from the airport bookshop before a long flight than as a great mystery/thriller I’d recommend to fans of the genre, if you know what I mean? Entertaining, but a bit heavy on exposition and some parts made me roll my eyes because of how contrived they were.
I enjoyed the character of Eddie, I detested the “twisted witness”, and I was intrigued by Mr. Christmas.
Overall, I found Eddie to be a compelling enough character that I’d gladly return to his world in other adventures.
For you if you like: to be entertained without thinking too hard about it, Saul Goodman, critiques of the American justice system
Maybe not for you if: Contrived mysteries annoy you. There’s one part where we’re in the head of someone who knows exactly what happened and they think something like: here are the possible murderer suspects and everything I know about them, it was one of them! As if anyone ever would think that. There were a few choices like that that just felt…. strange.
Like I said, entertaining, but not life-changing.

First time reading this author
It was a great book
Keep your interest and had many twists and turns
I really didn’t expect all that happened toward the end.
Was surprised with all of the outcome

Ruby now works as a maid and nanny for families of the
wealthy neighborhood where she once lived herself, and the
families there trust her because she used to be one of their
own. But when Ruby witnesses a murder, she keeps the identity
of the killer to herself, even when the father of one of her young
charges becomes the prime suspect. Eddie Flynn, ex-con turned
lawyer, is hired by this man to clear his name. The more Eddie
digs into things, the harder this becomes. There is A LOT going
on in this novel. Lots of characters, lots of sub-plots, lots of
red-herrings, and yet, it all works. I loved the unique characters,
and the plot was refreshingly different. This was my first book
by Steve Cavanaugh, and l've already put a library hold on my
next.
