thank you to netgalley for the e-arc. i've been hooked on cavanagh's books for awhile now and this one was great. eddie flynn is such a good character and i think i would read every book in the series.

This was such a fun, fast-paced read. Eddie Flynn is as sharp and entertaining as ever, but what stood out to me about Witness 8 is how much of the tension happens outside the courtroom this time. The legal drama is still there, but the story puts more focus on the psychological games and the dangerous situations Eddie finds himself in while trying to uncover the truth. It’s a fresh take that really shows off his investigative side and had me constantly second-guessing what was going on.
The characters are messy in the best way: flawed, unpredictable, and never quite who they seem. And just when I thought I had something figured out, the story would pull the rug out from under me in a way that actually made sense.
If you’re a fan of the series, this one feels a little different, but in a good way. And if you’re new to it, this is a solid place to jump in without feeling lost. Either way, it’s one of those thrillers you pick up planning to read for a few minutes and then somehow it’s hours later and you’re still going.

This book was really good. I enjoyed the plot and it kept a steady pacing . I would recommend this read even if you haven’t read the series

Thank you to Netgalley, Steve Cavanagh, and Atria Books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun one!
This book follows Ruby Johnson, a maid and Eddie Flynn, a defense attorney who can think like a criminal, because he used to be one.
Ruby is odd. But she has a unique history. The family she is now a maid for lives in the home she used to share with her family. Until her father left her and her mother alone and buried in his debts. But she has goals and will do anything to accomplish them, including blackmail, lying and maybe even murder. Eddie comes in when he takes on the defense of John Jackson, who murdered his neighbor, or did he?
We get multiple points of views in this story and crumbs that connect storylines, that you don't necessarily realize until the end. Though this was a quick read, I felt I was going back and re-reading certain chapters (so probably just my issue, lol).

Witness 8 by Steve Cavanagh is a fast paced criminal thriller with surprises coming at you until the very end. I’m not sure how Steve Cavangh does it, but he consistently delivers fast paced thrillers that grab a hold of you like a vice grip, failing to release you until the last words. This is just another day in the life of Eddie Flynn and his team, where Eddie will make someone mad, and once again will be in the crosshairs of danger, mystery, and intrigue. The team is used to hard cases, but when they get hired to defend accused murderer, John Jackson, everything will heat up, landing them in more danger than ever before.
This book was so good that I couldn’t put it down. I love Eddies quick wit, and the way him and his friends work out problems is entertaining and interesting. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us. I definitely recommend this if you’re into thrillers or criminal fiction.

Eyes wide open, I stayed up past 3 last night reading till I discovered how Cavanagh pulled together all the twists and turns in this action-packed eighth Eddie Flynn legal thriller. A New York former con man turned brilliant but unconventional defense lawyer, Eddie shares this book’s landscape with his unique associates, a wealthy neighborhood full of drama,
threats, murders, suspects, and crooked characters in the courtroom and across the city.
Enter into the mix Ruby, the damaged, secretive protagonist whose motives we strive to discover, and Cavanagh has concocted an exciting, surprising installment. With the careful plotting of a police procedural and the human interest of a buddy novel, fans of Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch will enjoy it.

I don't always love a series but I love SC. I love Eddie Flynn and all his imperfections. This story is packed with suspense and jaw dropping scenes. It was exactly what i expected but at the same time totally shocked. For fans of Karin Slaughter and Pat Cornwell would enjoy Steve Cavanaugh's Witness 8.

This is my first Eddie Flynn book. I’m now a fan and can join the ranks of those who worry about Eddie. There were many reasons to do so in this story. It’s all centered around a murder that took place on 74th Street and most of the action is done before we find out the answer to the mystery. The twist and turns and the multiple plot lines keep us busy wondering what will happen next.
Five stars for this one. I really enjoyed it!
I received a copy of the digital ARC via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the E-ARC.
This was my first Eddie Flynn book and I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the setting of New York. You could picture Junior's restaurant, Midtown and the hot cement everywhere. The novel was an incredibly fast paced read. Cavanagh keeps his chapters short, straight to the point and very readable. You can easily pick up the book and put it down and not forget what has happened in the overall story. There's mafia style corruptness with the NYPD and people in positions of power that are willing to be bought off.
Readers who enjoyed Sidney Sheldon's books in the 1980s and Mario Puzo's, Godfather should pick up Steve Cavanagh.
There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming and the overall book was very well written. I highly recommend this as a good book for male readers that tend to prefer non-fiction. It was fast paced and great crime fiction.

There have been so many raving reviews on books Instagram for Witness 8 and I can now say they are well deserved.
I love a good murder mystery and this one is done so well. The characters are fascinating because they are all so real and flawed. There is some suspense, some humor, and some emotional parts while also solving crime. What could be better?
I think this is my first book in the Eddie Flynn series and now I want to go back and read them all!

After reading Kill For Me, Kill for You, I saw the author and immediately requested from Net Galley. I did not realize this book was part of a series so I did not enjoy it as much as I would have if I knew some of the back story with the reoccurring characters. But it was a twisty legal and psychological thriller that I enjoyed.

I honestly don't know how anyone who loves a riveting crime/legal thriller wouldn't fall for Eddie Flynn hook, line, and sinker. Reprised for the eighth time in Witness 8, this streetwise con artist turned wily defense attorney protagonist was the epitome of morally gray in the best possible way. He wasn't, however, the only gem of a character. With a long list of multiple POVs-including a motley crew of strong individuals-it was a frenzy of fast-paced action within a complex but well-thought-out plot. Addictive, deceptive, and exceptionally well-constructed, I couldn't put this book down no matter what and finished it in only a handful of hours.
Thank you to Atria books for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest feedback

My first foray into the Steve Cavanagh world and it brings a unique look at the thriller genre. We know right away the who and the what and the where. It’s the twist of the why that makes this read so good. We have an affluent neighborhood with all of the “haves” and the “have nots” are going to play a large role unraveling the twisty neighborhood dynamics. Thanks to NetGalley for the read.

Who doesn't love a twisty legal thriller? Rhetorical question. I really loved the characters in this one. I'm a sucker for morally gray! I highly encourage other thriller lovers to check it out. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.

Eddie Flynn is as entertaining as ever, solving another case, and off course a hitman hot on this trail. Great plot line, intricate yet easy to follow.

Kickbacks and Greenbacks, that is what New York runs on…"
Why have I waited so long to read more from Steve Cavanagh? Eddie Flynn is back at it working his magic for his clients. This was a page turner and there was not a second that I found my interest wavering. Really superb storytelling, captivating characters, and a mystery that keeps your brain working to try to figure out how it can possibly work out.
Ruby Johnson is unwell and the perfect reminder to be careful who you invite into your home and life. She is working as a nanny/housekeeper for the wealthy but really she is collecting secrets like it is her job. Desperation has her going to great lengths to secure a future for her mother and God help anyone who gets in her way.
There are so many seemingly unrelated things going on that it is amazing to watch Eddie Flynn and his crew untangle what really happened in order to free and accused Dr. from murdering his neighbor. Loved every second of this read!
Thank you NetGalley

This was my first toe dip into this series. While I probably would appreciate some of the recurring characters more, I didn't feel like I was missing any crucial information by jumping in and reading this more like a stand-alone. Juggling the multiple storylines was handled well by Cavanagh. At first I thought this was a little like the kitchen sink - as in he threw in everything but, but the way the story came together made it all make sense. The plot was driven forward by the multiple storylines and the shorter chapters which helped me keep turning pages. I like that the main character isn't perfect, has some grit, and is a well-rounded indiviual - even unlikable at times. The POV from the "witness" was also helpful in putting the reader into the story. Overall, I really enjoyed this read. It was a quick and compelling read.

Fast-paced and compulsively readable, Witness 8 delivers a twisty legal thriller with sharp dialogue and a high-stakes premise. Cavanagh’s courtroom scenes are tightly written, and the plot moves with cinematic momentum. While some of the twists stretch believability and character development occasionally takes a backseat to pacing, the novel remains an engaging, entertaining ride. A solid pick for fans of legal suspense who enjoy clever plot mechanics and relentless momentum.

Ruby's family was once living affluently, until her dad lost everything gambling. When her dad goes missing, Ruby becomes a maid to the famililes who were once friends. And when a murder happens, she calls in a suspect, knowing it is not true. Eddie is a lawyer called in to defend this man and uses his past as a conman to do everything he can to win.
Thank you NetGalley for an arc of this book in exchange in my honest review.

Add this to the list of #books that I did not put together were part of a #series until I had #read several of them – these work as standalones, however, and are some of my absolute favorite #suspensethriller #novels on the market today. They are so addictively, entertainingly good.

I loved Cavanagh’s “Thirteen” and this one was every bit as excellent. Murder(s), crooked cops, “kickbacks and greenbacks”, Manhattan’s elite and Manhattan’s lowest of the low, unorthodox defense attorneys, former con-artists, #legal courtroom #thrills, corrupt District Attorneys, skilled hitmen, suspect nannies, friendship, loyalty, and love – this one quite literally has it all, and was the best #thriller I have #read in a while.

Ruby Johnson used to be one of Manhattan’s elite – until her family’s fall from grace resulted in her losing everything. Now, the only reminders of the luxury of her past life come when she is nannying and/or working for the people she used to call her own. Desperate for the funds to escape her current situation, Ruby – who already has been deemed by many of those close to her as a girl with “something wrong” – strikes gold, when she witnesses a murder. A murder she can use to her own advantage, if she plays her cards right and takes down an innocent man in the process.

Meanwhile, former con-artist and current defense attorney Eddie Flynn, works with his team to put together the puzzle pieces of this confounding mystery, in a desperate quest to save an innocent man from a life behind bars, or worse.
