Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I haven’t read anything by this author before now but the premise caught my attention. The book went in a different direction than I was expecting completely but was pretty good. I was very interested in seeing how things would come together in the end and this author didn’t disappoint.

What a great book and I wouldn’t expect anything less from Steve Cavanagh. Witness 8 is well written and very entertaining with mystery and humor. I was gripped the entire time. I also enjoyed the characters. I feel like even though this book is an installment in a series, it can also be read as a stand alone.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC.
Okay. I absolutely loved the base plot of this book. But there were too many other moving pieces that at times made this feel a tad convoluted. Like the sub plot of the hit on Eddie was not necessary at all. Though I did like Mr. Christmas. I feel there may have been another way to let him into the plot.
Overall, I liked this. But the constant change of so many point of views and all the secondary plot points slowed the pace down a tad too much for me.

For me, Witness 8 was an introduction into the world of Eddie Flynn. Easy storytelling, interesting plot, likeable - and unlikeable - characters. I was intrigued by the main character of conman - turn- lawyer Eddie Flynn. Although this particular book's ending fell a little flat for me, I can guarantee I'll be returning to this series. 3.7⭐️

Well Steve Cavanaugh did it again. This book has so much suspense and even had some comedy moments that literally made me laugh out loud. The ending made me shed actual tears too. Love the Eddie Flynn series and by the looks of the ending maybe this isn’t the end of us hearing more of our favorite ex con Eddie Flynn.

I am ashamed to say that this is the first and only book I have read so far out of the Eddie Flynn series. Now, I can fully grasp the phenomenon I was missing out on. Eddie Flynn is a force to be reckoned with. He is charming, witty, and not only book smart but street smart as well. Perfect for his job, to say the least. This story was a perfectly woven web crafted together by a skilled writer at the top of his game. The structure of this was impressive, with so many moving pieces, intricately slotting in together at just the right time. While there were a lot of different perspectives, the writing remained descriptive and delivered everything the reader needed from each one. Captivating from beginning to end, this author will never cease to amaze me. Four and a half stars.
Thank you, Netgalley and Atria Books, for this ARC.

Witness 8
Steve Cavanagh
Thriller / Crime / Mystery / Legal Thriller
Something is wrong with Ruby Johnson.
A former resident of the ultra-elite Manhattan upper class, Ruby now works as a maid in the type of houses she used to live in. Unassuming, she sees everyone’s dirty secrets from the inside of their beautiful, renovated brownstones. But when Ruby witnesses a murder, she has wicked plans in mind that don’t involve telling the authorities the truth.
Be careful who you invite into your home.
If Steve knows how to do one thing, it is write a suspenseful novel. My heart raced through the whole thing.
This read kept my attention the whole time. The plot was perfect. The characters are flawless.
Witness 8 was gripping and well written. I will recommend this book to my audience. 🖤
Thank you @Netgalley, @SteveCavanagh, & @Atriabooks for this digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

Somehow I missed that this was part of a series. Perhaps I would have felt differently if I had read the prior books. I did enjoy the multiple POV's, but nine is a bit too many. Some parts were quite unbelievable, and in other parts, there was just way too much going on, which made it hard to follow. The book could have perhaps benefited from a tighter edit in this respect. There were a couple good twists near the end. I did find Eddie to be quite clever. The pace was appropriate for the genre.

WITNESS 8 by Steve Cavanagh has an incredible premise and is extremely riveting.
Ruby Johnson is a domestic worker in Manhattan, but her family was once rich. After her father gambled away their fortune and fled, Ruby and her ill mother have been just scraping by. When Ruby sees her friend get murdered, she concocts a plan, but she doesn’t realize she’s going to have to contend with Eddie Flynn and his unconventional legal team.
This is only my second Eddie Flynn novel. The conman-turned-lawyer is an innovative hook to the series, and I appreciate that each can be read as a standalone even though it gives the reader more depth to read as a series. This one has a few scenes in court with most of this story taking place outside of court and on the streets of New York. There’s a few more shootouts than I really wanted in my reading, but I must say this novel is very propulsive and you want to get back to it. I would have liked to get to know some of the characters, like Bloch and Kate, a little more, but that might occur in other books in the series.
As for the Ruby plot, which is a chunk but not all of the novel, I really liked it. The author included an interesting aspect about art (trying to be vague), and that really surprised me how that evolved. Also, I was intrigued by how the Ruby plot line ended.
I really enjoyed the male friendship between Eddie Flynn and Harry. I know that it’s a very small plot line throughout the book, but it made me smile every time I got back to it.
I find Cavanagh writes really interesting morally gray characters (Eddie Flynn and Ruby, notably, in this novel). So if you like fast-paced action/legal novels with people with questionable morals, this one will be up your alley!

‘Kill for Me Kill for You’ made me a big Steve Cavanaugh fan last year. This is book 8 in the Eddie Flynn series but all of the books in this collection can be read as stand alones.
In this story Eddie Flynn has his work cut out for him when he accepts a case to defend an innocent man who is accused of murdering his neighbor. But Eddie has other complications to keep him busy. The local mob has put a hit out on his life. He is going to have to keep his wits about him to defend his client amidst extremely mysterious circumstances while also keeping himself alive.
Cavanaugh writes a fast paced, complex plot full of fascinating characters. I think it would be helpful to have read the previous books in this series because there are a few characters in this story that probably have a very colorful backstory. While I highly recommend this book; buckle up because there are multiple POVs and a couple side stories to keep the thriller lover guessing until the very end!
Thank you Netgalley, Atria Books, and the author for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. This book will be available for purchase on March 25, 2025

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I thought that it was an intriguing plot and I liked getting perspectives from different characters. There was a lot of buildup but the ending and twist were good!

Such a great mystery!! From the beginning the reader knows who didn’t do the crime and sees the evil play forward. I really enjoy thrillers where the perpetrators are apparent but the outcomes are not. This one still has a number of surprises and a hanging ending that tells readers we can hope for more from this master storyteller.
Thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Sorry to say this, but this was a big no for me. I’ve enjoyed many of his other books, but this one just fell flat. There were too many characters. Found it very hard to follow. Lost interest so many times. I still don’t really even know Half of the stuff that happened in this book.

Imagine being on top of the world, only to lose it all and end up working as a domestic servant for the very people you used to call your peers. That’s exactly what happens to Ruby Johnson, a woman determined to reclaim her former life—no matter the cost. Ruby’s plan is as audacious as it is shocking: she frames an innocent man for a murder she witnesses, setting off a chain of events that will keep you hooked until the last page.
What I didn’t realize when I picked this up was that it’s part of a series featuring Eddy Flynn, a tough, streetwise lawyer who’s willing to bend the rules to win. Flynn’s character adds depth and grit to the story, making it as much about the battle for justice as it is about Ruby’s high-stakes scheme.
The author’s skill in characterization and plotting shines through, delivering a legal thriller packed with tension and surprises. If you’re a fan of the genre, this book will have you racing to read the rest of the series. Highly recommended - 4.5 Stars!

As a psychological thriller, this hit the mark — the twists and turns kept my head spinning the entire time. Conman turned attorney is defending a man wrongly accused of murder, while the eyewitness is telling tales and spinning wheels of her own.

This was my first Steve Cavanagh book. I was immediately hooked to the story. This book has multiple POVs and is very clever. However, I thought there were a lot of details that I did not care for much. This book could have been about 100 pages shorter. I still really liked it but it felt like it dragged out after the halfway point.

Really good book! I liked the multiple povs and the twist at the end was perfect!! Would definitely recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot was great, a bit predictable at times, but entertaining always. I also really liked all the different characters! There wasn't ever a POV that I was disappointed to be reading. Will definitely pick up more books by this author!

Steve Cavanagh delivers another masterclass in twists and turns with Witness 8. Ruby Johnson is a captivating, chilling character whose secrets steal the show, making you question her motives at every step. Eddie Flynn’s sharp wit and streetwise instincts bring a welcome edge to a high-stakes courtroom drama packed with suspense. The pacing is relentless, with each reveal more shocking than the last, leaving you breathless until the final page. If you think you’ve guessed the ending, think again—Cavanagh proves why he’s the king of unguessable thrillers.

Steve Cavanagh just never disappoints. I could not have been more excited to receive this from Netgalley. This has all the twisty sides Cavanagh likes to put in throughout the whole story without getting lost and losing interest. I haven't even read every book in this series and still really enjoyed it!
