The plot of this book contained drama mystery and suspense but I can’t help but feel the storyline was a little all over the place. American Gunner by Eddy Clark is an intriguing novel that explores complex themes of identity, loyalty. The title itself, though evocative, doesn't seem to directly reflect the book's central narrative. I had expected a more traditional war story, perhaps focusing on a military character or gun violence, but the book veers away from a strictly action-driven plot to delve deeper into personal struggles and moral dilemmas. The main character was only out of the country towards the end of the book which still was a little baffling to me. Throughout the novel, there’s a sense that certain emotional connections, especially between the protagonist and others, are underdeveloped or glossed over. The brief, almost superficial moments between characters don’t allow for much depth, making it difficult to fully invest in their interactions or care about their outcomes. The book also ends with Raphael being given an assignment that will take him back to Africa meaning it will be A part 2 ? Also I just didn’t understand the reasoning for the aunty being poisoned and killed !?

Now, my fellow book lovers, this is my type of book. It has action, suspense, twists, turns, and romance. This book had everything that I needed when I needed it. It is highly recommended, and I will definitely be reading part 2.
