Incredibly rich and spoiled Pomona discovers her incredibly rich and mean grandmother murdered in her bed, and until the murderer is found, all of Pomona’s family money is frozen. Pom, who has never worked a day in her life, suddenly has to move out of her family’s hotel and get a job, and ends up working for and living with her former nanny’s son Gabe. When Pom decides to solve the murder in order to get her life back, Gabe is reluctantly dragged along. I loved this one! It was giving Alexis Rose trying to solve a murder, so it was hilarious, but I also loved how Pom grew over the course of the book and became more than the spoiled little rich girl she was at the beginning. It was a very quick and funny read, and I would absolutely read a sequel!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for my copy! ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Imagine if Paris Hilton solved a murder. The characters were charming, the plot was quick but thorough and the writing was tight. This was so fun!

Pomona Afton Can So Solve a Murder is like what if Paris Hilton lost everything and had to solve a crime, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the write was light and fun, easy to read and a good story. I liked Pomona's character growth and the character of Gabe was low stakes, uncomplicated and enjoyable to read. I liked the mystery and the interactions throughout. I am left with questions though that I think i know the answer to but were never explicitly said.

Pomona “Pom” Afton was quite content with her life. How could she not? She’s one of a heiress to the Afton Hotels and never needed to worry about money.

That is until her Grandma was found dead, clearly killed, at her private apartment. What’s worse is that her grandma issued a clause that the family assets would be frozen entirely if she died an unnatural death. Then Pom was suddenly left adrift with nothing since she’s been living solely off her trust fund and has no practical skill. Desperate, she took her former nanny’s offer to be her son’s roommate. And started to live as a regular functioning person of the society. All while also trying to solve her grandma’s murder to get her life back.

Falling from grace trope could be an entertainment if paired with interesting characters, and this book is exactly that. It’s a whodunit mystery, sure, but it’s also about Pom’s self-discovery journey. How to find her footing on her own. How to stand up for herself even against her own parents. It was fun, not too complicated, the romance was also heartfelt and cute even though she and Gabe had a rough start on their co-living arrangement. Such a nice quick read, I really enjoyed it.

This book was absolutely hilarious and one of my favorite books I read I love the mystery aspect of it. I love how it was not just a romance, but it was also a mystery mix for a little bit of thriller. Definitely would recommend this to anybody who’s looking for a funny romance.

Just couldn’t get into this book. The characters weren’t for me. Not sure if I’ll read more by this author or not.

I wish I could give feedback on this book. I requested this book when it was still possible to transfer on Kobo.

I'll update this review once I read this book on my own.

I've been in a reading slump for a while, and this really was an unexpected joy to read. Pomona finds herself on her own unexpectedly and takes on the self-designated role of detective to solve her grandmother's murder. Think Only Murders in the Building in book form - a curiously satisfying whodunit!

Thank you to Netgalley and Atria Books for a review copy.

Delayed Review!

This book was so much fun! It reminded me of a combo of Schitt's Creek and Only Murders in the Building. If you like either of those shows, you may enjoy reading this! I liked that there was mystery and some romance, which are both my go to genres to read.

Thank you NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for an e-ARC of "Pomona Afton Can So Solve a Murder" which is available now!

This one wasn’t my cup of tea, so I’m marking it as a DNF. I think other readers may connect with it more than I did. Thanks for the ARC!

When Pomona Afton’s glamourous, heiress life (a la Paris Hilton) is turned upside down by the shocking murder of her grandmother, she’s forced to start over with no access to her fortune (The Simple Life), share a Brooklyn apartment with a roommate and get a job for the first time. Consistently underestimated by her family she resolves to solve the mystery and return access to the family fortune. Part murder mystery and part “socialite in exile” character arc, this was an enjoyable albeit predictable read. The premise was fun and the contrast between Pomona’s past and present was interesting, especially as she began to grow as a person. I really like watching her evolve, but Gabe the MMC, really felt underdeveloped. He had a lot of potential but really just ended up being Pomona’s side kick. The mystery played out well enough to keep me interested but it didn’t have many surprises.

Thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for this e-ARC that I chose to read and review

Suspenseful, romantic, and outrageously funny, I couldn’t stop laughing!

While I was on edge for a portion of this book, it was super cozy. It did revolve around a murder mystery, but it was a light kind that wasn’t overly exaggerated.

It focused more on self-discovery and complicated family dynamics, which I enjoyed a LOT. Too much mystery would’ve turned me off, but this was the perfect mix of comedy, romance, and suspense!

Pomona was your typical spoiled rich girl at first glance, but her character development was vast, and under all of her layers, I ended up adoring her. She was never treated how she should’ve been by her family, and it’s evident that our MMC, Nicholas, showed her what she did and didn’t deserve—which both made me love him and led to her increasing development. These two were such a joyful and fun couple—their blooming love story made everything so exciting!

I recommend this read to all people who love romantic mystery with lots of heart and humor.

Think London Tipton or Paris Hilton tries to solve a murder!

This novel is a cute whodunnit and ironically, although there is a murder, it is still lighthearted and witty. There is great character development for Pomona, the protagonist. She goes from being doubted and doubting herself to learning new skills and realizing that she can amount to so much more. She is a little irritating initially, but I have to say her little quips are hilarious. I do wish there was a little more development on Gabe's character, but I know it was really Pomona's time to shine. Also, the secondary characters (and suspects) brought fun little twists to the plot!

An interesting mystery read, with an intriguing plotline. Unfortunately, I had trouble connecting to the main character from the beginning, which is why my rating couldn't be higher. Ultimately, this didn't feel like the best read for me personally but I'm sure I could see others picking this up and loving it.

This was not a fun read, and even though it was a short book, it felt long. A cozy mystery/romance in the vein of Schitts Creek sounded fun, but I did not find Pomona very endearing.

thank you to netgalley for the e-arc. i liked this more than i would have expected. i know that we are supposed to know that Pomona is a spoiled brat who is only doing this to receive inheritance but she never had any redemption. she stayed awful. oh well, it was fun.

In this book we follow Pomona a spoiled heiress who is left homeless and penniless after her grandmothers will stated that all of her accounts will be frozen if she dies of unnatural causes. And Gabe who is her now roommate and investigator in her grandmother’s murder.

3 Stars

It was an interesting book to read. It had a good balance of romance and mystery. My only issue was the fmc at the beginning and I couldn’t fully dive into the book at first. By the end I was very much into the plot.

I’m giving this a 3. I like the premise of the book but it was very hard to get into, and just not for me.

A highly entertaining whodunit murder mystery + romance subplot. Pomona is a likable rich girl whose family owns hotels. When her grandmother is murdered, Pomona decides to try and figure out who the killer is. I absolutely loved the storyline and couldn't put this book down! Pomona's growth throughout the story was well done, too. A perfect read for a quick escape!

This book follows Pomona Afton after her life is flipped on its head with the death of her grandmother. Pomona Afton is an Upper East Side heiress whose family owns a whole chain of hotels and has lived without a care. All of this changes when her grandmother is murdered, and all of her family's assets have been frozen until the murder is solved. Pomona is thrust into the real world, where she must learn how to hold a real job, reconsider the people she called friends, and maybe begin to fall in love with her unlikely hero.

Pomona's character growth resembles Alexis Rose's in Schitt's Creek. I loved seeing how Pomona's compassion grew and how she became much kinder throughout the novel.

I think the mystery had good pacing and was easy to read quickly. It also kept me guessing throughout. The romance was lovely, and the characters complemented each other well.

I loved this book! I think fans of cozy mysteries, character growth, and family secrets will enjoy this.
