This had potential but it just felt all over the place for me. It’s about a social media creator-turned-romance novelist who writes a book about her celebrity crush, only to meet him and chaos ensues. The plot had potential, but it felt rushed in some parts and dragged out in others. There was also very little relationship development for the main characters or anything that kept me wanting to root for them. The only thing that kept me going was the narration for Jason. His voice was smooth and kept me wanting more but at the same time wanted him to stop narrating the story and read a grocery list instead.

The main character, Emmy, felt super cringey. Emmy’s character also felt underdeveloped her inner dialogue made it seem like she was trying really hard to seem quirky (like referencing spaceships and *Aliens* quotes with zero follow-through). The love interest, Jason, was equally one-dimensional and made questionable decisions, which made it hard to see why Emmy was so into him. The relationship felt rushed, and the "fake dating" element was barely there. The side characters, especially her best friend Josie, were pretty forgettable.

Overall, the book had a lot of pop culture references and awkward moments that felt forced rather than relatable. It was a quick read, but not really my thing. Thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the eARC

I’m normally a fan of a celebrity romance but this didn’t do it for me. Emmy and Jason’s connection was a bit of insta-lust, and I didn’t feel any connection between them. I didn’t like Emmy’s character as she was immature and seemed to be using Jason to get herself back on the Hollywood scene. I liked seeing Emmy try to help him rehab his image and wish we got more of them building a friendship before diving into a relationship.

I mostly enjoyed this book for the first 75%. It was fairly predictable, but in the comforting way a lot of contemporary romance is. Fairly predictable, a lot of miscommunication, but endearing characters.

The last quarter of the book fully lost me. The miscommunication was overly blown out of proportion, the characters both turned spiteful and annoying, and it was frustrating to read. Also, there were fat-phobic comments, glamorizing of drinking (and almost driving?), and a few other things that rubbed me the wrong way.

A quick read, but overall I found this book a bit cringey, character unlikable, and I wasn’t really rooting for them to get together by the end.

Was really excited for this one because the premise seemed so fun and I love celebrity romances, but I had to DNF around 20%. Both main characters felt whiny and entitled. A lot of the dialogue and action was cringey and I couldn't believe that people would actually act this way and be okay with it. It was too hard to get through and I couldn't see either character really redeeming themselves. Thanks Forever for the ARC!

Emmy never expected to meet Jason- her celebrity crush-but she has and wow. This is a cute and amusing novel based around the idea that Emmy's novel is selling big thanks to her revelation and that Jason is actually in the movie made from it. There's good banter and a positive outlook. The TikTok references got a bit old (wonder how they will hold up a few years from now) but otherwise, it's light and fun. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read for a lazy day.

Thank you Hachette Audio and Forever a pub for my gifted copies. All opinions are my own.

I am a sucker for a good cover and jumped on the chance to read Celebrity Crush because the cover is gorgeous! Then I saw the audiobook was partially narrated by Teddy Hamilton, say no more. I really enjoyed the narration by Teddy Hamilton and Stephanie Willing.

This was such a fun concept! We start because Emmy has become famous after a video went viral promoting her book based on her celebrity crush. She gets an opportunity to meet him and later work with him when her book is being made into a movie and he’s the lead.

I liked their banter and interactions. They both seemed to be developing feelings but fighting it for different reasons. Jason is on thin ice with his production company. Emmy is trying to drum up interest in her book and movie and decides to use her connection to Jason.

Overall, I enjoyed this, but I struggled with how their relationship played out in the end. Emmy was less than honest and Jason didn’t give her a chance to explain.

This was not for me and quite honestly, I’m not sure who it IS for. The characters are immature at best and caricatures of millennial cringe at worst. The plot itself is a bit “problematic” and the execution wasn’t good enough to make up for it.

I really liked this one! It reminded me of a Christina Lauren book. I loved the way that Emmy and her daughter were so close. I didnt love the MMC, I thought he was a little mean.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc and alc.

I am bummed to write that this book did not work for me. I am upset because I was excited to read this book based on the premise -- it sounded adorable. Unfortunately, I would say that there was not much character development in the story and the characters-- especially the FMC seemed to lack any depth or growth in the story. With that being said I am willing to try more books by Christy Swift in the future, I just think this one fell flat for me. And I am willing to give this book a second chance at some point in hopes my opinion of the story improves. I must say though I really did like the audiobook narrators so that is a plus for me!

So much potential in an adorable premise. However, it just fell a little short for me. Emmy’s character development just wasn’t there in the way I hoped. To sum this book in one word: “cute”.

I absolutely adored this book!! It was fun and highly entertaining. Emmy is an author who writes a book about her celebrity crush. Then she gets the opportunity to meet her crush!! The love story blossoms from that meet cute if you call it that. Jason is casted as the leading man for the movie adaption so they end up spending more time together.

I had fun with this book! I laughed and cringed (non-derogatory) and felt all of the feelings I was supposed to feel. This book follows an author whose debut novel goes viral when she reveals that it’s inspired by her celebrity crush. She goes on to meet said celebrity crush, who plays his character in the film adaptation of the book, and shenanigans ensue.

Both characters are single parents and have complicated feelings about their attraction for one another and motivations behind their feelings, struggling to strike a balance between going after what they want and following the advice of others while trying to quiet their own insecurities.

The chemistry is fantastic, and the tension was built so well. I loved the jokes and references throughout the book, but that won’t be for everyone. It heavily mentions memes and makes tons of pop culture references (the main character is an influencer who references TikTok often, so if that’s something that takes you out of the story, this one might not be for you). I found it funny and endearing. The writing style is super conversational and easy to follow.

All in all, this was a great debut and I’m excited to read more from Christy!

Thank you to Forever for this ARC!

This was a really interesting premise but the execution wasn’t for me personally. The characters felt two dimensional and the potential in the story felt a little wasted, so the story never really stuck with me. I can see people who enjoy pop culture references and just want a really quick, fluffy read might really dig their heels into this one.

3.5 rounded up. This one divided me. Look, is this book completely absurd? Yes. But is it also completely hilarious? Also yes. Christy Swift has a very witty voice, and honestly that was what kept me wanting to turn to the next page. It was a wild ride where the main characters were both quite frankly not that likable, but it had me entertained and laughing out loud most of the way through, so if you want a fizzy escape of a book, then hey, this might be it!

Thank you to Forever and Hachette for inviting me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a charming debut novel.

Emmy is the best-selling writer with a book boyfriend inspired by her real-life celebrity crush. When her book goes viral they finally meet and it's a balance of real-life moments and social media moments and finding their roles in between.

In Emmy, Swift creates a bubbly main character who can turn on the charm and play the social media game to boost her book sales. But she doesn't have the confidence to trust any idea of romance in her life- but can she find that confidence?

Her crush is a celebrity who needs some good press to keep his job, and Emmy's book could be that --- but can he resist her? Can they help each other find faith in themselves and fall in love?

They're both so likable that it's easy to overlook some of the more rote tropes and twists and just enjoy their slow burn.

I love me a celebrity romance!
This was a great "palette cleansing" read but overall, it won't be a read that sticks with me.
I love the single dad/mom trope so much so that was fun here!

This was a lot of fun to read! Normal/celebrity matchup but not normal is a social media influencer and author. Lots of fun interactions and the side characters added to the story. There was a bit more depth than what I was expecting and really enjoyed it.

I received an arc from Netgalley and the publisher.

“Celebrity Crush” by Christy Swift is a closed door rom-com about an author that wrote a book inspired by her celebrity crush.

Thank you Forever and Hachette Audio for the ARC and ALC. The opinions from this review are completely my own.

Emmy is an author and social media manager. She is also a single mother. After a viral poll where the internet guesses who is the celebrity that inspired her book she gets to meet his. Jason is an actor and a single dad. After the success of the book, it will be adapted for screen with Jason as main lead.

The audiobook is a dual narration by Andrew Eiden and Stephanie Willing. They both did a good job with the characters and managed to make the book even more entertaining.

I liked the banter between them and all the sci-fi jokes. What I did not enjoy was the unnecessary drama with Jason’s ex.

Overall this is a fun read.

This shouldn't have worked from me, but it did. I usually hate social media actively being used in books, but I loved the dolphin vlogs and random yoga pose videos. The theme of dancing throughout the book was a bit much. I kinda hated that the FMC kept calling the MMC by his full name the whole time as if her fandom and awe of his celebrity never wore off. Her genuine sincerity in his times of vulnerability helped though. Overall this was overtop and chaotic, but I had a good time.

This was a really fun read! I love a celebrity romance and this was such a cute one. The writing was sharp and funny and I just found myself sucked into the story. I definitely could have finished this in one sitting!
