This book is the second in a series but can be read as a standalone.

The side characters and sense of place makes this mystery with a little romance come alive.

The two main characters support each other and bring a nice amount of spice along with the class expectations of the time period.

Thanks to @netgalley and @readforeverpub for the advanced reader copy.

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh
Second book in the series, after Lady Charlotte Gets Her Man. Historical mystery and romantic comedy. Diversity in physical form. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Georgina Harrington is an archaeologist. As a woman, she’s forced to use her cousin’s name for her antiquity appraisal business. When he disappears with a valuable discovery, she turns to a friend of his, Alexander Lovett, to help find her cousin.
The future Duke of Falcondale doesn’t want to spend time with Georgina. His manipulative and cruel parents have chosen her as a potential future bride. For most arguments, he would just grin like a fool and move on. But the lovely Georgina needs his help. Together they go on an adventure to find her cousin and the missing artifact. The investigation goes deeper than either of them imagined.

🎧 I alternated between an ebook and an audiobook for this story. The narration is performed by Marisa Calin in a delightfully soft British accent. Her performance brings a lightness of adventure to the reading which made the romance and comedy come alive.
I slowed my playback just a bit to 1.5 to accommodate the accent until I was used to it.

I appreciated the less than perfect Alexander for his uniqueness and acceptance of science to explain his birth defect. I felt bad for everything that his father put him through (off page, in the past) to try to fix it, and admired his ability to live life to the fullest as best he could.
As usual, also upset by the lack of power or legal options for women. Sigh. Can’t change the past.

Loved the rooster craze! Hilarious.

I was gifted a copy of this from NetGalley and publisher Hachette Audio.

I was part way through listening to Our Dear Miss H when I realized that the parrot and monkey were familiar and realized I’d met them in a previous book. A previous book I didn’t love.

But I like to give authors a second chance so I continued. And I’m glad I did. Our Dear Miss H is still pretty ridiculous, full of irreverent humor and unbelievable occurrences. But when you have an adorable rooster named Fluffus Legatus, you can’t help but be charmed.

The romance between Georgina and Alexander is sweet and adorable, and it was clear how smitten they both were. Overall, this was a fun and light historical filled with action, humor, and just enough romance to tie it all together.

This book gets high praise simply because I didn’t guess who the villain was! Usually I can spot it a mile away.

On top of that. Georgina is brilliant and brave and all the things we should all want to be. And Alexander. I recently heard a MMC be described as a secret sad boy and Alexander is such a secret sad boy. I loved seeing Georgina realize there was so much hidden behind his big smiles and extroverted nature. I also just really liked them together.

If you want just a hint of Indiana jones in your British histrom, this is the book for you

This book just didn’t work for me. I like the characters, but there’s no sense of cause-and-effect in the plot. Every time the scene changes, it’s like reading a different book. DNF.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

Lady Georgina is an antiquarian. Het cousin takes credit for her work, since that's the only way she can get recognition. When her cousin goes missing, Georgina bands together with his fried Alexander. The romance between Georgina and Alexander is well done and believeable. Alexander has a club foot and at one point Georgina massages his foot and scarred leg. It's a very sweet romance.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Violet Marsh for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case coming out March 25, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really love Victorian romance novels. I’m not sure if this was supposed to be more mystery or romance. I think there were a couple plots going on. There were a couple things that felt a little forced. The parents just seemed to be there to tell their kids to get married or else. I’m all for strong, independent heroines. However, there’s a fine line between that and “not like other girls”. It didn’t feel like there were even other girls in the story. It felt a little too instalove at times as well. But overall, I enjoyed the story. I would check out other books by this author.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Victorian stories!

This was a fun feminist, historical romance that has a Duke and a woman antiquities lover pairing up to track down a missing person and some stolen artefacts while falling in love along the way. There was swoony moments, lots of action and some great spice too. I especially liked that the Duke had a disabled leg and used a cane. Great on audio and perfect for fans of books like Earl's trip by Jenny Holiday or authors like Evie Dunmore and Elizabeth Everett. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

This is a pretty delightful romp. If you are interested in smart, interesting female characters, Georgina Harrington is a great lead for this book. While she is on a historical dig, she discovers a helmet. Her cousin thinks it's the helmet of King Arther, and takes it with him to show to the Archaeological Society. Then he goes missing. Georgina enlists her cousin's handsome friend Alexander into helping her search for her cousin. They uncover quite a scheme, and also become entangled in a forced engagement between the two of them, I would say this book is a lot more sweet and spicy, but I did enjoy the way Alexander gave loving speeches about how much he respects Georgina. The two of them seem well matched, and the plot definitely kept the book moving along. Sometimes the book was quite silly, but if you don't mind some pretty bad jokes, this book will keep you entertained.

Thank you NetGalley for the free digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When all the characters from the previous book arrived, I felt swarmed and really couldn’t follow. I’d have to read the first book and circle back to this one, which I will try and do because I did enjoy the main characters.

This is a light and funny book with a charming character list and a cute plot. This is a sequel but can be a standalone novel.

Georgina Harrington should never have trusted her feckless cousin Percy with her most precious archaeological discovery. But no one would take her academic work seriously if they knew it was hers and not her male cousin’s. When Percy goes missing, only Georgina realizes that he is truly in danger. And to find him, she must rely on the help of his infuriating but incredibly attractive best friend. Although Alexander Lovett is always up for an adventure, he vows to keep his distance from Georgina, who is on his insufferable parents’ list of suitable brides for a future duke. But he’s surprised to find himself falling for Georgina’s surprisingly bold initiative and independent thinking that save them from more than one deadly scrape.
The first book I’ve read by the author & it won’t be the last. I also requested the audiobook so half read & half listened to the book. I enjoyed the book, the characters were well portrayed & had depth. I liked both Alexander & Georgina & there was chemistry between them. There was a parrot & a monkey who lightened the book but just enough for it not to dissolve into farce. I really enjoyed the audiobook, the narrator was accomplished & her use of voices raised my enjoyment
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Our Dear Miss H Is on the Case is an entertaining, light, and fun follow-up to Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man. Alexander, Lady Charlotte’s brother, gets involved with Georgina, also appearing in the first book, as she searches for her missing cousin, who is also Alexander’s friend. Georgina is running a dig on her inherited property and finds the intact helmet of an ancient warrior in a burial mound. Her cousin, Percy, allows Georgina to submit findings to scholarly organizations under his name since as a woman, she would be ignored. When Percy is supposed to present the helmet with her findings at a symposium, both Percy and the helmet go missing.

A lot of serious topics are discussed in the book, including misogyny, female autonomy, ableism (Alexander was born with a club foot), and abuse of wealth and power among them. Even so, the tone remains on the lighter side with break-ins and capers and a very funny recurring jest on the fashion of the ton involving roosters and hens. I enjoyed myself a lot and received a mood lift during dark times.

Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the advance reader copy. All opinions are my own.

4.5 stars! A great whimsical historical, romance with a mystery afoot!

This was such an enjoyable read. I wen't back and read "Lady Always Charlotte Gets Her Man" beforehand and was so glad that I did. While "Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case" can easily be read as a standalone, there is a great cast of side characters that are still present in this latest read that I was glad to already know.

This go around we follow Alexander and Georgina as they thrown into this next mystery adventure while also become entwined in a blooming romance. I loved following these main characters who are complete opposites but found such comfort as they both have been labeled as outcasts in their lives. I loved the partnership they became.

My favorite part of this series is the ensemble cast. I absolutely love the found family. I wish we had more with the side characters like the first book but for this story I understand why that wasn't as present. ALSO- fingers crossed for a romance blooming with Calliope and Mr. Powys!

I look forward to reading more of this series! The audiobook was fantastic!

Read if you like:
-historical romance
-thrilling mystery
-whimsical humor
-endearing animals
-great main characters and ensemble cast

Thank you, NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for eARC.

This was a fun sequel to the book “Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man”. In this story the male protagonist Alexander is Charlotte’s brother. Alexander has been through a lot in life, born with a club foot and treated horribly with all kinds of botched surgeries to make him into the man his father wanted. He is going through life joking around trying to defy his father at all times. That is until he meets Georgina Harrington who creates an interesting problem for him. Georgina is a woman who secretly digs for antiquities and publishes works under her cousin’s name. That is until her cousin goes missing and she becomes desperate to find him. Her search leads her to ask Alexander for help, but when they find out what their families are planning it becomes difficult to know who to trust and what to do. This book had wonderful main characters, and especially colorful side characters and pets. I enjoyed the mystery element, and was charmed by the doomed romance between the two main characters. As someone familiar with the series I loved revisiting past characters, but I think the book could also easily be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one in the series! I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.

I absolutely flew through this book. It was funny, fast paced, and filled with the best collection of characters. Part of this story had me laughing out loud. I will definitely be reading more from Violet Marsh

This was an entertaining and fun story with a touch of whimsy. A romance that both characters valiantly fought against their desires for one another in order to oppose the dictates of their families. Plus a mystery that they must work together to resolve that only escalates as more is revealed. The special room at the Black Sheep coffee house that was established in the first book helps build the supporting cast and provide a found family for both the MC that got the short end of the stick when it comes to blood relations.

I really enjoyed this story, it was an easy read that I didn’t want to put down. While the stakes are raised from the forbidden aspect of their relationship, Alexander is supportive of Georgina from the beginning.

The story starts off light and fluffy but once the storyline gets established, it delves deeper into the hardships both MC have faced. They both find they’re being seen for the first time for who they are and accepted for it. I enjoyed when it was just the two of them on page, which happened to be a lot and their romance really shined here.

Additional animals are introduced and added to the growing menagerie for the series. They added fun and whimsy that I enjoyed, especially as the tension of the mystery increased towards the end.

While I enjoyed the balanced of the romance/mystery for most of this book, I wished there was a bit more romance right at the end. The mystery tied up neatly if not a little rushed. Overall, it was an entertaining read.

Our Dear Miss H is on the Case is the follow up book to Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man. I recommend reading the first book prior to this one. There are two scenes that held the promise of being steamy but were interrupted and there are no full encounters.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 1/5 🌶️

Thank you to Forever, Grand Central Publishing, Netgalley, and the author for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was such a great read! Georgina and Alex are perfect for each other and the action/adventure throughout is super fun. What makes this book especially interesting is that it’s set in the 1700s in England. The way in which many historical aspects of the era are addressed would certainly be appreciated by all historical romance fans!

Georgina Harrington is an archaeologist and historian who publishes her research under her cousin’s name. After her cousin, Percy, mysteriously disappears, Georgina believes he’s in danger. She teams up with his friend, Alexander Lovett, who her brother is trying to arrange for her to marry, to try to find Percy. Alexander offers to help search for Percy because he is his friend and also to spend more time with Georgina. Together, they begin their journey, which leads to friendship, romance, a bit of drama, and lots of humor.

This was the perfect balance of romance and mystery, with great historical elements throughout. I really enjoyed how cozy the story felt while still addressing more serious topics and featuring a strong FMC. If you are looking for a lighthearted, cozy, low spice, and overall fun read, Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case is an amazing choice!

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case is a fun historical romance/mystery from Violet Marsh. There’s some crossover with her previous historical, Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man, although it does work as a standalone. And overall, while I had some of the same issues with this one that I did with the other book, I really enjoyed this overall.
The characters are fairly solid, and I generally really liked them. Charlotte has been using her cousin Percy’s identity to get her work accepted in academic circles, as a result of the misogyny barring women from academic pursuits at the time. Alexander (brother of Charlotte from the prior book) is Percy’s best friend, and has been mistreated by his father due to falling short of expectations, including being born with a deformed foot, for which he’s had corrective surgeries in an attempt to fix. While I can’t speak to the specifics of the rep, I did appreciate that the story showed his capabilities in spite of his early challenges, and defies convention by making him a skilled sportsman.
The romance is sweet, and they have solid chemistry throughout. I appreciate that, while they don’t have a ton in common on the surface, they have similar personalities, and their emotional connection feels natural.
The mystery element was once again somewhat weak by comparison, without a lot of suspense, but it was stronger this time around, especially as the seemingly disparate threads started to come together. I liked the way both Charlotte’s passion for archaeology (and the artifact she gives Percy) and Alexander’s fraught relationship with his father tied into the bigger picture, with a payoff that worked hand-in-hand with their happy ending.
This was a really fun read, and I’d recommend it to readers in the mood for a fast-paced historical romance
