This was a fun sequel to the book “Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man”. In this story the male protagonist Alexander is Charlotte’s brother. Alexander has been through a lot in life, born with a club foot and treated horribly with all kinds of botched surgeries to make him into the man his father wanted. He is going through life joking around trying to defy his father at all times. That is until he meets Georgina Harrington who creates an interesting problem for him. Georgina is a woman who secretly digs for antiquities and publishes works under her cousin’s name. That is until her cousin goes missing and she becomes desperate to find him. Her search leads her to ask Alexander for help, but when they find out what their families are planning it becomes difficult to know who to trust and what to do. This book had wonderful main characters, and especially colorful side characters and pets. I enjoyed the mystery element, and was charmed by the doomed romance between the two main characters. As someone familiar with the series I loved revisiting past characters, but I think the book could also easily be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one in the series! I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.

I absolutely flew through this book. It was funny, fast paced, and filled with the best collection of characters. Part of this story had me laughing out loud. I will definitely be reading more from Violet Marsh

This was an entertaining and fun story with a touch of whimsy. A romance that both characters valiantly fought against their desires for one another in order to oppose the dictates of their families. Plus a mystery that they must work together to resolve that only escalates as more is revealed. The special room at the Black Sheep coffee house that was established in the first book helps build the supporting cast and provide a found family for both the MC that got the short end of the stick when it comes to blood relations.

I really enjoyed this story, it was an easy read that I didn’t want to put down. While the stakes are raised from the forbidden aspect of their relationship, Alexander is supportive of Georgina from the beginning.

The story starts off light and fluffy but once the storyline gets established, it delves deeper into the hardships both MC have faced. They both find they’re being seen for the first time for who they are and accepted for it. I enjoyed when it was just the two of them on page, which happened to be a lot and their romance really shined here.

Additional animals are introduced and added to the growing menagerie for the series. They added fun and whimsy that I enjoyed, especially as the tension of the mystery increased towards the end.

While I enjoyed the balanced of the romance/mystery for most of this book, I wished there was a bit more romance right at the end. The mystery tied up neatly if not a little rushed. Overall, it was an entertaining read.

Our Dear Miss H is on the Case is the follow up book to Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man. I recommend reading the first book prior to this one. There are two scenes that held the promise of being steamy but were interrupted and there are no full encounters.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Forever, Grand Central Publishing, Netgalley, and the author for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was such a great read! Georgina and Alex are perfect for each other and the action/adventure throughout is super fun. What makes this book especially interesting is that it’s set in the 1700s in England. The way in which many historical aspects of the era are addressed would certainly be appreciated by all historical romance fans!

Georgina Harrington is an archaeologist and historian who publishes her research under her cousin’s name. After her cousin, Percy, mysteriously disappears, Georgina believes he’s in danger. She teams up with his friend, Alexander Lovett, who her brother is trying to arrange for her to marry, to try to find Percy. Alexander offers to help search for Percy because he is his friend and also to spend more time with Georgina. Together, they begin their journey, which leads to friendship, romance, a bit of drama, and lots of humor.

This was the perfect balance of romance and mystery, with great historical elements throughout. I really enjoyed how cozy the story felt while still addressing more serious topics and featuring a strong FMC. If you are looking for a lighthearted, cozy, low spice, and overall fun read, Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case is an amazing choice!

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case is a fun historical romance/mystery from Violet Marsh. There’s some crossover with her previous historical, Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man, although it does work as a standalone. And overall, while I had some of the same issues with this one that I did with the other book, I really enjoyed this overall.
The characters are fairly solid, and I generally really liked them. Charlotte has been using her cousin Percy’s identity to get her work accepted in academic circles, as a result of the misogyny barring women from academic pursuits at the time. Alexander (brother of Charlotte from the prior book) is Percy’s best friend, and has been mistreated by his father due to falling short of expectations, including being born with a deformed foot, for which he’s had corrective surgeries in an attempt to fix. While I can’t speak to the specifics of the rep, I did appreciate that the story showed his capabilities in spite of his early challenges, and defies convention by making him a skilled sportsman.
The romance is sweet, and they have solid chemistry throughout. I appreciate that, while they don’t have a ton in common on the surface, they have similar personalities, and their emotional connection feels natural.
The mystery element was once again somewhat weak by comparison, without a lot of suspense, but it was stronger this time around, especially as the seemingly disparate threads started to come together. I liked the way both Charlotte’s passion for archaeology (and the artifact she gives Percy) and Alexander’s fraught relationship with his father tied into the bigger picture, with a payoff that worked hand-in-hand with their happy ending.
This was a really fun read, and I’d recommend it to readers in the mood for a fast-paced historical romance

This was a quick fun read! I love these historical romance books with an FMC who is strong and independent and somehow always finds themselves caught up in a mystery. I especially loved that it included archaeological finds, which is a subject I love.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced e-arc!!

Just a lovely historical romance romp. I got to read an early copy, and I really liked it. The spicy level is low (but appropriate I suppose). It is the story of Georgina and Alexander. She is an academic type and he is a sporting guy (despite his clubfoot). They come together to find her missing cousin. And they are so wonderfully supportive of each other (even if they both think the other one doesn't want them). It was utterly charming and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Violet Marsh's 'Our Dear Miss H is on the Case' is a heartwarming historical mystery that feels like a warm hug. Miss H, a smart and determined heroine, is a character you instantly root for, and her connection with her love interest is simply perfect. The story is filled with interesting characters, each with their own depth and growth, creating a wonderful found family. The blend of humor, sweet romance, and a gentle mystery kept me thoroughly engaged. I appreciated the clever use of social customs and the subtle commentary on gender roles. With cute pets, including delightful chickens, and a cozy atmosphere, this book is a must-read. It's a sweet and satisfying story that leaves you wanting more. 5 stars, highly recommend!

The novel “Our Dear Miss H is on the Case”by Violet Marsh was a great sequel to “Lady Charlotte Always Gets her Man.” I went in to this book really excited about the tropes, she’s an archeologist and he’s the best friend of her cousin who loves adventure. On the surface they seem to have nothing in common but they share trauma of dealing with intolerant family members and bullies that targeted them because of their differences. They bond over their trauma while shunning a marriage their horrible families arranged for them all while searching to find their missing cousin/friend.

I loved the mystery elements in the book and the archeological discoveries. Georgiana and Alexander had some really sweet and fun chemistry over the course of the book and we got to see their relationship grow and progress in a very natural manner. I liked all the secondary characters in the book and it was nice to see Charlotte and Matthew again. I wish there was a bit more steam between the MMC’s and that the plot moved a bit more quickly in some areas. I found at times my interest would begin to lag a bit before being hooked back in. Overall a neat storyline and great characters but I was hoping for a bit more adventure throughout. A solid read and I look forward to other potential sequels.

One Liner: Entertaining with some important themes

1750s
Georgina Harrington loves archeology and history but her gender prevents her talents from being acknowledged. She uses her Cousin Percy’s name to submit her works and sell the antiques. Percy is happy with the deal. However, he disappears with her latest find, a possibly high-valued helmet. Georgina realizes he might have been kidnapped or is in danger.
Alexander Lovett is always ready for an adventure and prefers to live a happy life due to his traumatic childhood. His father’s desire to fix his clubfoot and the bullies of the ton made him determined to live his life the way he wanted. Alexander is more than ready to help Georgina find Percy (who happens to be his best friend). However, he has to keep his distance from her as she is on his father’s list of chosen brides for him, and the last thing Alexander wants is to do what his father wants.
The story comes in the third-person POVs of Georgina and Alexander.
My Thoughts:

While the book works as a standalone, it would be more enjoyable if you read the previous one (Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man) since the characters from that one appear quite a bit here. Also, we meet the MMC in the first book and can understand him better.
The story starts a few hours before the previous book ends but comes from the MMC’s perspective. While I forget most details, I remember Pan the parrot and Banshee the monkey. Here, we have two more additions – a dog and a chicken. It’s a riot with the animals taking over and well doing what they like!
The MMC has a clubfoot (that has been further damaged in ‘repair attempts’). The book presents how physical disability was viewed with disdain and repulsion, especially in the ton where one is supposed to be perfect (only the mask, of course). His childhood trauma, the toxic relationship with his parents, and the coping mechanisms are handled well but without overwhelming.
The FMC is an archeologist and a historian trying hard to retain control over her life and finances. We get to see the patriarchy, gender bias, and other issues associated with the theme. She is a bit gruff and quick to judge at times but it can be forgiven. It fits with her backstory.
Despite the heavy themes, the book is a romance, so there are quite a few scenes for it. Though, I was surprised that the steam is less than 2. It’s not as steamy as I thought it would be. Not complaining!
There’s a mystery element too which does get decent focus. However, the subplot doesn’t as such take itself seriously, so readers shouldn’t either. It expands into something a bit dangerous but farcical as well.
The book ends with a happy epilogue and a lead for the next one. I’ll be sure to grab that too!

To summarize, Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case is a lighthearted romance with a touch of mystery but deals with heavy topics like disability and gender discrimination.
Thank you, NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), for eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

What fun! And it's deeper than you might expect from the cover. Georgina doesn't especially like her cousin Percy but she needs him to make her own work legitimate and then he goes missing. Alexander's parents want him to marry (he's going to be a Duke) and Georgina is at the top of their list of prospective brides. When he agrees to help her find Percy he also finds that he, well, he likes her. This is slow burn romance with good dialogue and engaging characters. It's also the second in a series but entirely enjoyable on its own. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A very good read.

Book Review: Our DearMiss H. Is on the Case
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Author: Violet Marsh @violetmarshauthor

Thank you Netgalley for my ARC

A delightful mix of romance, mystery, and adventure,
this second installment in the series is perfect for fans
of Bridgerton and Enola Holmes. Georgina Harrington,
a brilliant but overlooked antiquities scholar, is forced
to publish under her cousin’s name. But when that
cousin, Percy, vanishes with her latest discovery, she
teams up with his best friend, the dashing and
rebellious Alexander Lovett, to track him down.

Georgina and Alexander’s chemistry is off the charts,
with witty banter, slow-burning tension, and just the
right amount of swoon-worthy moments. Alexander, a
duke’s son who has endured a lifetime of rejection due
to his clubfoot, brings depth to the story, making their
romance all the more compelling. Their
forced-proximity partnership—part reluctant allies, part
arranged-marriage setup—adds an extra layer of
tension and charm.

With a cozy historical mystery, a lovable cast of side
characters (including some mischievous animal
companions), and plenty of humor, this book strikes
the perfect balance between intrigue and lighthearted
fun. While it can be read as a standalone, reading Lady
Charlotte Always Gets Her Man first will make the
experience even better. A must-read for historical
rom-com lovers!

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case is actually the second book in a series by Violet Marsh. I didn't happen to read the first book but I think this one holds up well as a standalone. While there is definite crossover with characters from the first book and the mmc for this book is the fmc from that book's twin brother, you get enough explanation of who they are and how they are linked that you understand the bones of their story. That said, I will probably go back to read it as I'm interested to see where everything began.

In this installment, our fmc is Georgina Harrington. She is not your typical lady and grew up loving history and archaeology. Now, because she is a woman, all of her findings have to be presented through her cousin Percy and when she trusts him with her biggest discovery to date and he doesn't show up, she realizes he must truly be in danger.

Enter Alexander Lovett. Alexander is a friend of Percy's and when Georgina goes to look for him at a coffee shop she remembered him mentioning, she runs into the man she recalls seeing at one of her digs. But Alexander has his own challenges. As the son of a duke, his parents are determined to find him a suitable bride despite the fact that he has many failings (according to them). After agreeing to help Georgina find Percy, he is just as surprised as her to find out that his parents and her step-brother have concocted a scheme for them to marry...which while could be considered good in any other scenario due to the way they are both drawn to each other, it isn't ideal here. Not only would this give them what they want but every time they turn around, someone is trying to kill them.

I enjoyed this book and thought the story and the relationship build were both well done. I loved all of the characters and while I would have liked a little bit more romance in here, I still found myself enjoying the book. If you're looking for a new historical romance with representation around disability, some interesting characters, and action/adventure, consider checking this one out.

A hilarious historical romance/mystery with several quirky characters and lovable but also unhinged animal companions.

I definitely recommend reading the first story in the series, seeing as you're dropped back into a similar setting with a different set of main characters. I started with the sequel, as I seem to have a superpower in doing so, but I could mostly piece together what happened in the first book and relatively enjoyed jumping into Alexander and Georgina's story. Both of these characters come from unfortunate backgrounds and have absolutely horrible people for family, except in the case of Georgina and Percy, yet they both manage to be positively kind and generous no matter the situations they end up in.

I cannot wait to go back and read the first book and based on the ending of the epilogue I cannot wait for the next book in the series and will be eagerly waiting for its release.

This was such a fun adventure!! Georgina is everying I want in a heroine - she's brilliant and dedicated and cares about both people and animals! And Alexander is such a cinnamon roll wrapped in pain and want. The two must work together to figure out what happened to Georgina's cousin and save the day! Thank goodness they have Ruffian Cesar and Fluffus Legatus to assist!!

Loved this caper of a romance. Georgiana is the sister of an earl and spinster who is an antiquarian who digs for artefacts. Her cousin Percy usually takes the credit for all the work, since she won’t be taken seriously as a woman. But when she overhears her brother trying to broker a marriage for her to an unknown marquess, she’ll do her best to escape the situation. On top of that, her cousin has gone missing and she needs help figuring out what happened to him. Alexander is one of Percy’s friends, so he quickly volunteers to help, and we get a load of adventure as these two take on the town and beyond. Oh, and Alexander also happens to be the marquess that Georgiana is trying to avoid. He has his own problems with a father who hates him and tries to dictate his life, so he’s also trying to avoid an unwanted marriage. But of course, these two complement each other quite well, so it’s only a matter of time before they fall in love.

Miss Georgina Harrington is a talented archeologist and runs successful antiquity appraisal business, but as a woman, she is not able to take credit for her work and has her cousin, Lord Percy Pendergrast to act as the face of her achievements. When she makes an extraordinary find of a golden helmet on her father’s lands, she gives to Percy to share with the Antiquarians of England Society. But when Percy disappears along with her helmet, she will need help to find him and her treasure. In London with her half-brother, she visits the Black Swan Coffeehouse – one of Percy’s haunts, in hopes that his friends have heard from him. But what she finds is an unusual group of people, including Alexander Lovett, Marquess of Heathford and heir to the Duke of Falcondale, the man that her brother has decided she must wed. They haven’t seen Percy, but are more than willing to help her, especially Alexander. But when they begin looking, they uncover much more than they were expecting, including an attraction that neither of them wants to admit to and a plot that could topple the monarchy!

Alexander Lovett was born with a clubfoot and has endured unimaginable pain enduring “treatments” his father insisted on putting him through, but despite the torture he has borne, his father still treats him with distain. His father is so obsessed with Alexander’s perceived disability that he has found a bride for him with impeccable lineage. This presents Alexander with problem, because he is falling in love with Georgina but has vowed to never do anything his father demands and that includes marrying Georgina. But the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes that she is the key to his happiness, and he can’t let her go, but can he convince her that they are perfect for each other.

This was an interesting somewhat farfetched story that started out well but devolved into the absurd. I tried to just ignore the ridiculousness and just enjoy the story, but it was just too much and moved too slow. I did enjoy the secondary characters, and felt a lot of empathy for Alexander, but the romance was lacking, and the plot was difficult to believe. Overall, this story didn’t work for me – don’t get me started on the chickens – but I am looking forward to the next book and hope that it is a bit more realistic and romantic.

Thank you to Forever for the review copy!

I love this campy cozy mystery historical romance series. I would personally start with the first book, Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man, because they pretty frequently reference characters from that book and it’s a tight knit crew. But I hate feeling dropped into a world, so you might be fine because the mysteries are not connected!

Georgina Harrington is an archaeologist and historian who publishes under her cousin’s name for propriety’s sake. After Percy visits her dig site with some friends, he mysteriously disappears, but Georgina is the only one who believes he’s in danger. She teams up with his friend Alexander Lovett, who her brother is trying to arrange for her to marry, to try to find Percy.

This was the perfect balance of romance, mystery, and jokes for me. I love the silly animal companions that have been in each book! I was absolutely giggling and kicking my feet at the budding romance between Georgina and Alexander. If you are looking for something lighthearted, cozy, and low spice, pick this one up!

This is a fun, historical rom com. It is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone
Georgiana is an antiquities scholar searching her property for ancient treasures. Her cousin Percy presents her findings since she can't being a woman.
When Percy goes missing, she starts searching for him with his friend Alexander, Marquess of Heathford.
There are so many interesting, fun secondary characters, hilarious animals, and the mystery of looking for Percy that will keep you captivated throughout the story.
I can't wait for the next book in the series!
