A woman has no place among gentlemen scholars so Georgina uses her cousin Percy to present her findings. Her latest finding is causing quite a stir and Percy is missing. Alexander Lovett, heir to a dukedom is one of Percy’s friends. Born with a club foot, Alexander has suffered at the hands of bullies and his parents for his imperfections and is determined to never wed a suitable miss. Offering Georgina assistance throws the two together in a wild adventure where the couple find danger and love despite all their attempts to avoid both. The main characters win the toughest readers over with an entertaining and fun HEA. I would reread this book in a second. A tale of love and adventure, of being an object of ridicule and rejection and finding acceptance. Also of mysterious disappearance and a murderous traitor as well as smugglers. Animals play an important role in this book, hilarious and endearing and totally smart! Wonderful smart woman and a man of depth under his carefree facade actually make for a perfect pair that match in every sense. Excellent read!

I think that this book is very well written but a little slow paced to me but still a loveable and enjoyable story!

"Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case" carries over the positives of "Lady Charlotte Gets Her Man" while dropping some, but not all, of the less positive aspects. Here, our FMC, Georgiana, is an antiquities scholar forced to have her male cousin take credit for her finds. MMC, Alexander, Marquess of Heathford, is the twin of Lady Charlotte and has spent much of his life dealing with the consequences of being born with a club foot, and even more from all of the (unsuccessful) surgical 'fixes' his father insisted upon. The plot is a little convoluted - Georgiana's cousin disappears with her latest find at the same time as she overhears bits and pieces of a plot between her father and another man which includes marrying her off to the Marquess of Heathford. And Georgiana does not want to get married.

The story goes from there. Alexander and Georgiana meet without knowing who the other really is, and end up agreeing to look for the cousin (who is also Alexander's good friend). They do eventually figure each other out, but not without drama - or humor. So the duo, with some help from the Scooby gang, goes looking for the answers to both the marriage plot and the missing cousin. And of course find love along the way.

This book was enjoyable, but the pacing was a little off and the two mysteries don't mesh well, though they do come together by the end. The humorous elements are a bit slapstick but are still entertaining. The romance is not super spicy but it works well enough. Not a bad read to pick up.

Second book in the series which can be read in order or standalone! Another fantastic read that kept me hooked on wanting to know what will happen with Georgina and Alexander! This is not my first time reading a book by this author. The other book that I read is "Lady Charlotte Always Gets her Man" which I adored.

What I loved about this book was the adventure, the emotions, the drama, and the communication skills between Georgina and Alexander. The chicken moment was epic. There were a few other moments that were cute and thrilling. As the plot continues on, danger rises on. Both Alexander and Georgina are so fun together. I love how they boost each other up.

I will say Georgina's half brother and sister in law are not my favorite characters along with Alexander's parents. Gosh, what rude people they are.

Will they solve the case? Will they get their happy ending?

FYI: The spicy bits are sweet.

‘Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case’ is a cute, and often silly, historical romance. Georgina and Alexander are well fleshed-out characters. Their journey explores their pasts and conveys how they make sense together as a couple.

The two of them have opposing interests, but nearly the same temperaments. Both are adorable people, and they’re very cute together. All in all, there isn’t much tension between them, aside from a few prolonged miscommunications.

This book has plenty of humour, and it’s spread throughout. For the most part, the nobility is the butt of the joke, mocking their obsession with appearances.

My biggest criticism is that the pacing is a little off, most noticeably in the first half. Part of the problem is that it can be overly descriptive—especially with things that aren’t important or have already been established. This results in certain scenes being stretched out for so long that the book drags. It takes longer than necessary for the plot to get set-up and rolling. Then, just when the main characters start working on the mystery, it’s brushed aside for a few chapters.

The official book summary says that this is for fans of ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Enola Holmes’. I would agree with both those choices, in the sense that they aim for entertainment instead of historical accuracy.

The descriptions of Georgina’s land, and her findings, kept reminding me of ‘The Dig’ (2021, film). I might have been a little confused if I hadn’t seen that movie.

This book was delightful! Georgina is such a fun heroine and the chickens had me cackling. I liked this one even more than book 1 of the series, which makes me really excited for the next book!

This was such a great time. I read the first book in the series and was happy to see some returning characters. I really loved Georgina. She is smart, funny, and determined. Her relationship with Alexander flowed so naturally. They have great banter and make such a good team. This is such a whimsical and fun book. It has so many interesting side characters and a bevy of animal pals. I also really enjoyed the mystery portion of the story. I will be closely watching to see what Violet Marsh does next!

Having read Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man I of course had to pick up this book! I have been dying to know what was going on with a gold-plated helmet and a missing cousin. I thought the mystery aspect to this story was really interesting and well-developed. I had a lot of trouble putting this book down because I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. Because I had read the previous book, I also knew Alexander was not the awful man Georgina thought him to be and enjoyed Georgina getting to know the real him. I thought she was being a little overdramatic when she learned Alexander's title but given how her brother and sister-in-law treated her, she had good reason to have some trust issues. The part with the chickens was a little over-the-top silly but still humorous. If ever there were two people who needed to sit down and have an honest discussion about their thoughts and feeling it is Georgina and Alexander. Half the time they are thinking pretty much the same thing but too afraid to be open with the other which only leads to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Also, the fact that either one of them would consider not pursuing a relationship with the other person simply because their awful relatives were the ones to initially want a marriage between them was a little frustrating. I would have liked there to have been one final confrontation between them and their family members at the end just for some closure - and for both Alexander and Georgina to have their chance to tell their relatives what they really thought of them. And it's probably important to note that being a British citizen in the colonies was very soon not going to be such a good thing (this takes place pre-Revolutionary War) so having that flee there was ultimately going to be quite the punishment for the villains of the story. There were some twists with the mystery surrounding the helmet and Percy's disappearance that kept things interesting - I definitely did not suspect the person who turned out to the kidnapper. As with the previous book this ends with a bit of a cliffhanger that has me excited for more. I am also really interested in reading more with Percy to see how his experiences in this book changed him and to make sure he gets his own happy-ever-after.

While this is a second book in the series, I haven't read the first book yet still didn't find any difficulty in getting into this cast of characters and their world. Violent Marsh is a new author to me and this was a great book to get into their work. It's a silly little romance that finds the right balance of silliness without being too corny or too much, with characters that stand out from the usual historical romance lineup.

This is the second book in the new series. However I do feel that you would be able to read this as a standalone without missing too much background from the first.

Overall I really enjoyed this one. I have really been enjoying the historical romance with adventure books recently. I like to see women defy the social norms that they had forced upon then back then.

The trend of carrying roosters around with them was hilarious. The thought of these noble people dragging a bird around with them, getting poop every where because of a lie told is quite the mental image.

As far as spicy this one is pretty low, would only give it half a 🌶 for spice. But that does not take away from the story.

Looking forward to the next one, and seeing Hannah get her HEA? 🤔

The follow up story to Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man (which I also enjoyed), works as a stand alone but you’ll be missing out on some characters and backstories.

Action, adventure, and mystery. Sweet and funny, Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case hits the mark as an enjoyable historical romance and mystery, with two MC’s who work well together.

This is the follow up story to Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man. Probably it can be read on it's own, but reading the first book will definitely contribute to the enjoyment of this one, the bulk of this story occurs after the last, there are cross over characters and characters and relationships/backstories established in the previous story that are relevant to this story.

Georgina Harrington is a scholarly lady with a passion for the antiquities, and a desire to educate others. Unfortunately, being a lady of her times, she is not taken seriously, and is forced to hide her identity as a man to get her treatises published and presented. Her beloved, charming, feckless cousin, Percy, is her chosen proxy. But he has gone missing, with her latest discovery, and even worse, her stepbrother and his wife are conspiring to arrange a season and marriage for Georgina. Fearing her cousin is truly in danger, and forced to reside with her brother and his wife in London, she seeks out aid from Percy's best friend, Alexander.

Alexander is the only son and heir of a Duke, but instead of being adulated and pampered as the heir, he has been reviled and abused for being less than perfect, born with a clubfoot. To make up for his imperfections, his father seeks to arrange a bride of perfect lineage to compensate for the future of their line, and one of those choices he discovers is Georgina Harrington. He is determined to not fall into his father's plans, but because of his own concerns for Georgina and Percy's safety, he and Georgina work together to discover the mystery behind Percy's disappearance.

Themes of social class, parental/family abuse, emotional abuse, rebellion. This is a shared adventure, cozy mystery, sweet Georgian historical romance with a large dash of humour. Alexander is a charming character who hides a lot of his pain with a facade of charm and humour, and Georgina is a studious observant woman who sees beyond to the real Alexander. Again, a colourful cast of characters and bright, witty dialogue, and love the involvement of the animals who become interesting characters in themselves.

This is a cute story. It had a bit of a slow start for me but I enjoyed the tone and silliness of the characters.

This is a fun, entertaining, good read. Alexander and Georgina are interesting, relatable, complex, complicated, intelligent, strong, intriguing, entertaining characters. I enjoyed both the romance and the mystery subplot of the book. They were both well done and kept me captivated until the very end. These two are fun to spend time with. The secondary characters – including the animals – added to the fabric of the story and my enjoyment. I love that we got to spend time with the characters we meet in another book by the author. The story is easy to read and get into.

This is such a sweet, fun romcom. I loved getting to know Georgina and Alexander and the ways in which they defy harmful cultural Regency Era norms, both individually and together. Moments of lighthearted silliness througout serve as a needed respite from themes of sexism, ableism, and classism (etc) that the author covers.

It took me a little while to get into the story, but once I was into it, I was well and truly hooked. I realized after I started reading that this was a sequel, but this book stood on its own.

This was fine and a quick enough read but ultimately not for me. The premise was interesting, but the pacing was uneven and the humor was a little too silly for me. I think there was a lot of plot crammed into a story that's supposed to have a romance and I lost interest between the different shifts. I did appreciate the social commentary on the role of women and disability perspectives of the time but it was pretty heavy handed.

I didn't read the first in the series and was quite fine, so this could be read as a standalone. If you enjoy cutesy or silly humor with a stubborn historic spinster FMC, I think this would be a pretty amusing for you.

A lovely sequel, I enjoyed this so much. The book begins as Georgianna is excavating in a pit and finds a golden helmet. She is a scholar but must publish under her cousin's name to be read. Cousin Percy shows up with his friend Alexander in tow. Then the fun and the mystery begins. The Plot is very complicated and a mystery ensues when Percy and the helmet disappear.
Georgianna's half brother (and truthfully I couldn't figure out that relationship) is her guardian. He decides she must marry a Duke's son. When she discovers who it is she is very angry, because it is Alexander and she thinks he knew all along.
Percy disappears with the helmet and Georgianna and Alexander set out to find him. There are several nefarious plots afoot.
Georgianna finds the Black Sheep pub where she will meet all the characters from the previous book.
There are several absolutely hysterical scenes involving cakes, a parrot, a monkey and chickens. Lots of chickens.
There is a race through the streets of London and we meet King George.
All in all a delightful book. Be sure and read Lady Charlotte always gets her man first.

I requested an early copy of this book based on the description (and let's be real, that cover is charming), but I quickly realized that it's a sequel! This book stands alone, but it takes us back to the world of Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man, a book I loved. It was wonderful to revisit this cast of characters. What makes this book especially interesting to me, a historical romance fan, is that it's set in the 1700s. We get talk of politics, hair, makeup, and fashion from that era (as opposed to the more popular regency era).

This story moves on to a new couple, Georgina and Alexander. Georgiana has suffered through a few social seasons and is content to spend her days excavating land she inherited. Her father, now passed away, raised her to love antiquities. She has written articles and uncovered artifacts, but shares them with the world using her cousin Percy's name. Percy even gives speeches as her when in London. As far as the world knows, he's the antiquarian.

Alexander is the brother of the main female character from the first book. He was born with a clubbed foot and suffered through brutal treatments as a child, as his father was desperate to "fix" him. When he went away to school, he was bullied relentlessly and learned to adopt a happy, unaffected attitude.

The humor and whimsey I remember from the first book is back and some action happens at the coffeehouse that serves as a meeting point for characters. You'd think that the presents of a parrot and monkey would take this into farce territory, but there are so many other topics that keep this from being silly - smuggling, the role of women in society, disabilities, and the obsession with linage in English society at the time are all dealt with. The love story is sweet and a little steamy at times (maybe three peppers?).
