Thank you Udon Entertainment for the drc via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I'm always a fan of Sherlock Holmes and I love manga so I was very excited about this adaptation and it did not disappoint. The artwork is fantastic and the story flowed well from panel to panel. I loved that it was full color as well which usually draws me in more completely. It's definitely a great way to dive into Sherlock Holmes as a beginner but also as someone who already knows and reads the stories looking for a quick read that brings the detective to life through art. I also loved the portrayal of Holmes and Watson and how their friendship grows from roommates by chance to partners. I'd definitely recommend this one to fans of manga or anyone wanting to delve into the classics but with a quick, more approachable start.

I adore any manga retelling and this manga hits the spot! the classic detective tale of Sherlock Holmes a study in scarlet in expressive manga art, making it accessible to read especially for newcomers to classic literature.
Julien Choy's artwork breathe new life into the world of Baker Street and moody streets of Victorian London. Holmes himself is drawn with a perfect mix of aloof intelligence and quiet intensity. I adore Dr Watson's interpretation in this manga! He's so sincere!
The manga adaptation gives a well paced narrative, cohesive experience that maintains intrigue without losing narrative momentum.
This manga is both a faithful homage to original. Highly recommended for people who is curious with classic literature through a more inviting lens.

I love this adaptation. The art style was the best part of it. The book was pretty accurate to the novel and a good way to star reading more classics.

Love love love the art style, the dialogue and the plot. Sherlock is one of my favourite classics, so it was so fun to read it in manga form. It felt so similar and different all at once.

For a person that has never read anything Sherlock Holmes Related before this I don't exactly know if it was a good place to start. However it did make me want to pick up the book, so I do see me doing so in the near future. I the art style that this manga brought. I also loved getting to know the characters. I can't wait to pick up other stuff in this series as well as the actual novel!

I really enjoyed this version of Sherlock Holmes, A Study in Scarlet from Manga Classics. A Study in Scarlet is a well known story finding adaptations throughout literature and film. This new adaptation in the form of a manga is sure to delight readers of graphic literature, manga, and Sherlock Holmes alike. The illustrations are done in classic anime style, the costumes impressive and of course all characters have really great hair. All of that aside the characters retain their general dispositions and flair. The overall story is easy to read and follow and brings Sherlock Holmes to yet another audience to enjoy.

This manga edition of the classic “Sherlock Holmes” was a great read. The visuals were great. My only complaint was the font for the text. It was at times difficult to read.

The art was well done but overall it was just another adaptation of A Study In Scarlet with little change other than being done as a manga.

Recommend for any Sherlock Holmes lover

"Perhaps his life was useful, then, and his work well done. Perhaps there is justice on this earth after all. But what truly matters is the truth of the matter, and that, I will have." (182).

An okay introduction to the world of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, through a manga adaptation rather than the plain text version (which, admittedly, I have not read yet). I can't speak to how accurate this portrayal of the story is, but based on other reviews, I'd wager it's pretty darn close!

The story wasn't as engaging as it could have been. I wanted to see even more mystery. It all felt too...not predictable, but like it was merely covering the basics of what I assume the original story is. I also believe that Watson and Holmes' relationship could've been more engaging too - of lot of it was Watson being confused but impressed by Holmes' ability to deduce and solve mysteries. I think it's important to balance these two things to make a story compelling, but this unfortunately does not scratch the surface.

Now, I'll address the bright pink elephant in the room: the art.

Long story short: it's not very good. There's bizarre anatomy, strange faces (that don't fit the situation), and questionable perspective. Even original character designs fall flat! I think some improvement in the art department could've helped what I mentioned above, the nuances of relationships, setting an atmosphere of mystery, and so on...

I recommend this for people who would rather read a manga/graphic novel adaptation of a classic story. But, dare I say, I would read the original before cracking this one open.

The students at our libraries really love the Manga Classics line of titles, so I was very excited to see one in full color! I felt this adaptation was pretty faithful to the original material of the Sherlock story, though for a manga audience, there is a little bit of playing up a possible romance between Watson and Sherlock. It is extremely subtle, as manga romance readers like it, so this can definitely be used in a class setting and the romance could be overlooked completely. We will definitely be purchasing this for our libraries and potentially be using this for class literature studies.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read a free copy of this manga in exchange for my honest opinion!

I so adore every Manga Classics that gets published, and this Sherlock Holmes edition is no exception. I'm hoping to see more of the adventures of Sherlock and John in the future too! The art style is fantastic, story is adapted so well, and honestly this is amazing for someone who wants to dip their toes into classic literature but can get overwhelmed by the density or language of the text. This manga was super easy to follow and is a great addition to the Manga Classics omnibus! Fingers crossed for even more classic lit to get adapted in this format in the future.

3.5
I have been on a Sherlock kick lately. Be in fanfics, movies, shows, games, etc I have always loved Sherlock Holmes. Having read all the originals, I’m always up for reading a fresh take on my favorite detective and Dr. this is my third or fourth ‘manga classics’ read and all of them have been good representations of their original classics. The art style here was not really my favorite but I loved that the whole thing is in color. The expressions are somewhat goofy at times which made some of the scenes feel like parody. However given that Holmes always has some humor I’ll let it slide.

I would recommend this for readers who want the quick and dirty story details but don’t want to spend the full time reading the original. Or I would also recommend for people like me who just like revisiting the greatest detective. 🕵️

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this fun story for review.

It was interesting to read Holmes in this format! I don’t know if it was my favorite way to take in that familiar story, but I think these classic adaptations are a fun approach to the classics.

Thank you to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for sending me a copy of Manga Classics: Sherlock Holmes in exchange for an honest review.

I have always wanted to read Sherlock Holmes, as I enjoy other cultural references/representations of the amazing detective, however have found the original text by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle intimidating, so when I saw that there was a Manga Classics version, I knew this was the perfect opportunity for me to be able to experience A Study in Scarlet in an easily digestible way.

I really enjoyed the way it was presented and the art style, though I did find the olden style of dialogue a little at odds with the modern art.

It was a pleasant and easy read, and I would encourage any others who have wanted to read Sherlock Holmes but have struggled to read it for whatever reason to pick this one up and give it a go.

I will be keeping an eye out for future installments of Manga Classics: Sherlock Holmes so I can continue to follow the adventures of Holmes and Watson.

Being the detective that got me into crime fiction (and may have also inadvertently started my interest in the Victorian Era), I jumped at the chance to read another adaptation of "the world's greatest detective", and it was a delightful read. Following the plot well, Manga Classics adds its own dramatic illustrations that remind you how eccentric the writing is and how adaptable the classic story is.

Manga Classics: Sherlock Holmes is a fun way for younger audiences to get into the stories that inspired hundreds of other authors, and it's a nice way for older audiences to see their favourite detective from another angle.

Overall, Manga Classics: Sherlock Holmes was a fun, quick read that is perfect for younger audiences. I'll admit the designs weren't my favourite, but that shouldn't stop others from reading it.

Thank you, NetGalley and Udon Entertainment, for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I truly enjoyed this version of A Study in Scarlet. The story has been simplified to fit the format but still follows all the beats of the plot. The character design is attractive and the personalities are, while a bit younger than the original, still engaging. The colour palette and art is clean and attractive, and the panels flow with the right pacing. I’m accustomed to reading manga but I think this book is very newbie friendly.

I was hoping for a Sherlock manga which would be exciting for adults and long-time fans to read but this does read as intended (for pre-teens, as an introduction to Sherlock Holmes) This manga did accomplish what it set out to do but overall fell flat for me.

I have to say, I am a sucker for anything Sherlock Holmes and this was no exception. The art really brought the classical story to life and was just so much fun. It felt like a great, relaxed way to take in such a classic character and I liked some of the more modern moments in the manga.

Overall 3.5.

I really enjoyed the visual representation of Sherlock Holmes’s Study in Scarlet. The artwork was beautiful and the dialogue was simple and quite easy to follow. The mystery and investigation followed was quite logical as expected and overall the manga was quite fun and easy to read.

Although I liked the artwork and appreciate the manga bringing to life one of my favourite characters of all time, I didn’t particularly feel like the drawn out characters of Sherlock and Watson paid good homage to the literary characters. The two main characters felt too ‘beautified’ in a sense and Sherlock’s peculiar nuances was not felt across the papers although drawn.

Thank you to netgalley and Udon Entertainment for providing me with this ARC that I was able to enjoy.
