I really liked this story. I was a little graphic in parts but very twisty all the way to the end! I cannot believe how much the suspense built up. Would definitely recommend this one!

Another great twisty book by KMod! I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. This is a very dark book, the narrators do a great job at being worried and sinister. The story does become a little unbelievable, but it is fiction after all. Like I said it does have a dark story line, so check the trigger warnings. It's a quick listen that you won't be able to stop listening to. I listened to this comfortably at a 2x the speed. Pick this one up for sure!
Thanks Netgalley and Dreamscapes Media for the opportunity to listen to this great thriller.
TW: Sexual assault, bullying, child abuse

Celine is called to the police station because her husband was in a horrible car accident. But it turns out the man in the accident is not her husband… her husband is missing. In her search to find answers about her husband’s disappearance, Celine uncovers the secrets of his past and she begins to question everything.
This audiobook had me hooked from the beginning. Most of the chapters were short and worked well with the plot. The twist made this book and was unpredictable which I always enjoy in a thriller. The multiple audio narrators were fantastic and made it easy to follow along. I really found myself connecting to and sympathizing with Celine and all that she was going through. Please read the content warnings. This book was very dark in some parts and I almost didn’t finish it.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this ARC!

Absolutely hooked from the start.
“ Your husband was involved in a fatal accident. “ only to find out it’s not her husband and someone that just closely resembles him! Following 2 storylines, past and present. Past being Celine’s currently missing husband, and present following Celine trying to uncover what is happening.
It’s suspenseful and twisty and you never know what’s coming next, check your triggers cause there are a couple of them in there that could bother you. (⚠️Trigger Warnings: rape, sexual assault, manipulation, child abuse, murder, etc⚠️)

4.5⭐️
I devoured this book in less than a day. Every book that I've read of Kiersten's has been via audio and I always feel like the performances are amazing. This one was no exception. Even though this is only the 4th book I've read from her, she has become a go to thriller author. I loved this story. It was captivating from the moment I began listening and the constant twists and turns had me unable to stop. This was so much darker than I was expecting. I don't want to spoil anything, but I felt like I was listening to a crime podcast or watching an episode of Law and Order. I love when a book can surprise you and this accomplished that.
Highly recommend if you are a fan of thrillers! This was such a quick and easy listen that will easily keep you captivated from start to finish. The audio performance was great. Performances by Mia Hutchinson-Shaw, Chad Ackerman, Evan Sibley, Melissa Kay Benson.

I flew through this audiobook! It was quick, at just over 6 hours (or a little over 200 pages) and I absolutely could not wait to see what happened next. I was hooked from the first chapter and 100% did not see the plot twist coming. This book is a little dark and perhaps sadistic, but it only added to the character development. Definitely check trigger warnings. I would love to see what else this author has written.
The narrators did a great job and were easy to understand. I also felt like their voices fit the characters. The male narrator did an especially good job! I received this audiobook via NetGalley but all opinions are my own. Thank you for ARC and opportunity to review!

It's no lie that I love a good Kiersten Modglin book and I can say with certainty, this one was pretty amazing. Lately, I have felt that everything has been pretty repetative while also still being distinctive from one another and I think it was a refreshing for something new. I loved the twists and turns that came along with it, that kept me guessing until the very end where I was in awe because I would have never guessed the truth. 4 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free audiobook of The Guilty One by Kiersten Modglin in exchange for my honest review.

I'm not quite sure what happened here. A very interesting premise—and a promise to match the darkness and twists and turns of Modglin's "The Arrangement" series—gave way to unending chaos and unbelievable storylines that left me incredibly disappointed. There are too many gaping loopholes and unanswered questions and I so desperately wished this had benefitted from more edits and tightening of the prose because there was also quite a few very unimportant details and scenes that took up way too much time and space, taking away from this long shot of a plot. I'm just…confused.
The male narrator was perfect, especially in the flashback scenes from Tate in college. The main female narrator was extremely grating to listen to, especially when she read for male characters in a scene.

I am a KMod lover through and through. This kept me interested throughout and I enjoyed the dual pov/dual timelines. I will say that I don't know if I totally bought into the twist ending. I will be the first to tell you that a book doesn't have to have the most logical plot for me to enjoy it, but even I felt that this was a bit of a reach. I do want to commend the author for her commitment to adding layers upon layers of darkness to her characters---it certainly makes for a twisted and enthralling read.

I loved that the narration in this book had different people so it was a very clear distinction of who was talking. It starts off with a bang as Celine gets a call that her husband was in a car accident and died so she needs to come identify the body. She goes there expecting the worst only to discover it wasn't her husband but this person has an identical tattoo. She soon learns that she didn't know her husband as well as she thought she did.
I enjoyed the past and present time lines as something that happened in college is now messing with the present. You feel for Celine as she is trying to fit all the pieces together and getting so frustrated. I love a big cover up and secrets but the ending made my jaw drop as that was a twist I didn't see coming. Well, done! I liked that it was a little over 6 hours so can easily be done in a day. This author is such a delight!

Celine receives a phone call that her husband died in a car crash. However, when she goes to identify the body, the body is not her husband. Who was driving her husband’s car and where exactly is her husband?
Kiersten Modglin does not disappoint with this one. In typical KMod style, there are many jaw-dropping twists. I enjoyed the multi-cast narration of the book. I felt like it really brought the story to life. Definitely clear your schedule for this one because once you start you won’t be able to stop. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys thrillers, especially fans of KMod. I give it 4.5/5 stars.

The story centers on a woman's frantic search for her missing husband, and it absolutely captivated me from start to finish. This dark, mysterious narrative is masterfully crafted, with Modglin vividly bringing each character to life in a way that made them integral to the story.
The pacing of the book is excellent, drawing me into the plot quickly and keeping me engrossed. I found myself eager to unravel more with each chapter. For anyone in search of a gripping, fast-paced thriller, I highly recommend "The Guilty One."

I loved the multi-cast narration on this book! It perfectly brought the story and characters to life and really held my attention throughout! The story was just mind blowing, in my opinion. So many crazy twists and turns and I honestly had no idea where it was going to end up! Fair warning, there’s a fair amount of trigger warnings if you’re sensitive to domestic violence and sexual abuse, but it didn’t bother me since it fit for the story being told. This was definitely a 5 star read for me and I would highly recommend to anyone that likes psychological thrillers and mysteries!

How far will you go to protect the people you love? When Celine gets a call informing her that her husband was in a fatal car accident, her whole world shifts in a matter of moments. The only problem is – the man who died driving his car – isn’t her husband. So where is Tate? Is he alive? Celine is desperate for answers and will do everything in her power to get them.
A bit slow to start, the first half of the book is pretty typical of most domestic thrillers. Nothing really caught me off guard, and at points I actually found myself a little bored. The second half - when we started experiencing Tatum’s college flashbacks – almost felt like a completely different book. The shift is dramatic. This is a great time to point out that these flashbacks are graphic and at times – extremely disturbing. TW discretion is advised. TW: Sexual assault, bullying, child abuse
The narrator for Tatum did a fantastic job of portraying his absolutely deplorable character. It was actually painful to listen to at times because his acting was so spot on and intense during some of the most gruesome scenes.
This is a twisty turny read that’s perfect for fans of dark and twisted popcorn thrillers.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to review this ALC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Kiersten Modglin continues to deliver excellent thrillers that are quick and full of excellent charters and twists. The Guilty One kept me on the edge of my seat and I finished it in one sitting. I just had to know what happened.
Celine gets a phone call telling her that her husband Tate was in a fatal car crash and she needs to identify his body. When she looks at pictures to identify the body, he resembles her husband and even has the same tattoo but it's not him.
The story follows both Celine's POV and Tates POV from the past and present. As you learn more about Tate’s past more and more doesn’t make sense but in the best way possible. I was so intrigued.
I kept trying to guess what happened to Tate and how his past came back to his present and I thought I had it figured out but was wrong. I never saw this coming.
I can’t wait to read whatever Modglin puts out next.

This was a fast paced addictive thriller, I finished it within a day and didn't want to stop listening!
I have read a few of Keirsten's books this year and have loved all of them , they are quick and easy reads. I absolutely loved this one!
This one had a few twists that I did not see coming , it was so great to be totally blindsighted!
I really loved the narrators , they did such a great job!
I recommend this book to readers who love suspenseful, addictive twisty , dark thrillers!

Like any good thriller the beauty of it is going in blind so that's what I recommend Celine a call that will turn her life upside down. Everything she knows she starts to question. You as the reader are going through it with and when I say I had a couple mouth hanging open moments would be a understatement. I did not expect what happen.
I really enjoyed listening to this the narrators do great. I love multi voices for different characters.
Thank you NetGalley for this Audio arc in exchange for my honest opinions.
and leaving me going what the heck

What is it about? Celine receives a phone call out of the clear blue one day when her two sons were at school. The person on the other end told her that there had been an accident, her husband was dead and she had to come to identify the body. She went to do so, and found out it wasn’t her husband. But this dead man has an exact replica of her husband’s tattoo. And her husband, Tate is missing. And so begins Celine’s journey to find her husband and figure out WHY this man she has never met was driving her husband’s car, has his wallet, and has an identical tattoo.
The characters: Celine: the loyal wife. Tate: seems to be the absolute ideal husband. The in-laws: likable, kind, helpful, loving.
How I felt about it? This is a dual timeline story. The secondary story is actually more powerful than the first. I was drawn in from beginning until end. Exciting, intense, and thought-provoking. Everything I want in a psychological thriller. Only reason I made this a 4 star instead of 5 is because many loose ends weren’t tied up for me. Regardless of that, still highly recommend!
Thank you @NetGalley and @Dreamscape_Media for an audible version of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

What did I just read! Wow! 🤯 I wasn’t expecting any of that at the end. Such a quick read with twists. Another fantastic book by Kiersten!
