I’ve been a huge fan of The Stormlight Archive almost 15 years now, and Wind and Truth has been one of my most anticipated books since the moment I finished Rhythm of War. After four long years of impatiently waiting, I was eager to see how Brandon Sanderson would bring such a massive an intricate series arc to a fulfilling lose. Sadly for me I don’t feel like he really did that. I mean, don’t g et me wrong this was a great read with plenty of depth, character moments, and the worldbuilding that I love. But it didn’t quite land as the conclusion I had hoped for. The book had some absolutely great moments that I freaking loved but I do feel there were more than left me feeling a little bit underwhelmed. Still, being back on Roshar is always a joy and I’m grateful for the journey so far.

One of the highlights of Wind and Truth for me was getting to follow the individual storylines of the paired off characters like Kaladin and Szeteh, Shallan and Adolin, and Dalinar and Navani. I thought each arc had some really powerful moments, and Szeth’s backstory in particular was both fascinating and heartbreaking, adding some new layers to a character who has always felt a little enigmatic. I really appreciated how these journeys deepened our understanding of each character ad their struggles. That being sid, I did find myself wishing there had been more interaction between the various groups. With everyone so separated for the majority of the book, the story sometimes felt a bit disjointed, a bit like piece of a puzzle that weren’t quite fitting together.

I know the ending of Wind and Truth has been kind of divisive, with many of my friends being frustrated by the number of unanswered questions and lingering cliffhangers. But personally, I felt that most of the major character arcs were wrapped up in a way that I felt were emotionally satisfying, even if not everything was neatly revolves. The final chapters and especially the epilogue left me eager to see what comes next, not just for Roshar, but for the wider Cosmere. That being said, I do feel like it’s becoming increasingly clear that a solid grasp of the Cosmere is almost required to fully appreciate the depth and direction of the story. This is great and exciting for longtime fans but I can see it being overwhelming for those who haven’t read beyond The Stormlight Archive.

I would have to say that overall, I really enjoyed Wind and Truth and found it to be a fitting, if imperfect, capstone to the first arc of The Stormlight Archive. Looking back over the the five books, it’s been an incredible journey filled with unforgettable characters, truly epic stakes, and some or the most emotionally resonant moments I’ve read since the Wheel of Time. I’m genuinely excited to see where the story goes in the second half of the series, especially with the foundations Sanderson has laid. At the same time, I can’t help but feel a bit sad—and honestly a little anxious—about how long it might be before we get the next installment, let alone the series conclusion. But if the next five books are anything like the first five, the wait will be worth it.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Perfect for me. I great end to the first arc and I am so sad that I will be waiting years for the next one. Brandon outdid himself and although I don’t think it’s the strongest in the series it’s still a worthy addition.

Such a tantalizing tease for the book! I'm still working through my re-read, but this was just what I needed to stoke my excitement

What can I say about Brando Sando that hasn't already been said? Having read over a dozen of his books at this point, it feels like an understatement to say that the fifth book in the Stormlight Archive was a highly anticipated read—not only does it offer a new chapter to the Cosmere for fans to obsess over, it also conclude the first arc of the Way of Kings saga, which opens the door for a new era. I could not believe that I received early access to this segment—from the first words I was absolutely hooked—but I'm also a little unsure whether I'm supposed to review just this segment or the entire book now that the publication date has passed. Suffice to say, I loved it—the man never misses. I can't wait to see what comes next.

Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson is a captivating and thought-provoking novella that blends Sanderson's signature world-building with deep philosophical themes. Set within his larger Cosmere universe, the story delves into concepts of power, responsibility, and the search for truth. Sanderson's writing is immersive and detailed, creating a rich narrative that keeps readers engaged while exploring complex characters and their moral dilemmas. It’s an excellent read for fans of Sanderson’s work and those who enjoy character-driven speculative fiction.

This brief sneak peak of the book had me wanting more and got me ready for the books full release. Even within the first hundred pages, I was tearing up and I am not ready for the second arc of the Stormlight series. Brando Sando owns my soul and I will always read anything he publishes!

While the premise was nice, the writing was... not what I expected. I wanted more from the characters because I felt that what was on the front cover and the front flap was not what we were given.

Thanks to NetGalley and Tor for an advanced copy!

I have loved the previous books in this series, so I was super excited for this one! And Brandon Sanderson did not disappoint. It was just as great as the previous installments with an epic climax.

It turns out that this was much farther into the series than I realized. I am working on the second book now, and am quickly becoming a Brandon Sanderson fanatic. I apologize for oversetimating my own reading speed. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book regardless. I will not be leaving a star review as that would feel disingenuous.

Yet another great novel from Sanderson that continues his outstanding epic in the Stormlight Archive. The Cosmere is coming together so beautifully.

Brandon Sanderson did it again. As he takes you deep into this amazing world we have all become obsessed with. I'm left needing answers!!! I thought this book would conclude the series but I am left with so many unknowns and wondering if I will wait many more years to get these answers that leave me up at night wondering what is going to happen next?

The book is written very well and the character development is perfect as always! The world building is amazing. The detail he provides allows the reader to really engage and see the characters n the scene.

Oh. My. Stormfather.

The conclusion to this first arc of The Stormlight Archive and Cosmere Phase 1? Absolutely immaculate. I went in with sky-high expectations, and somehow, Sanderson still managed to exceed them. Every moment felt earned, every emotional beat landed perfectly, and the sheer scale of it all was breathtaking.

And let’s talk about the narration—because listening to Michael Kramer and Kate Reading again felt like coming home. Their voices are the Cosmere at this point. If there were a Spotify Wrapped for audiobook narrators, Michael Kramer would be my undisputed #1, and it wouldn't even be close.

This excerpt was just a taste, but if the full book keeps up this energy, we’re in for something legendary.

At this point, Sanderson could publish his grocery lists, and I would still be tuned in. The Stormlight Archive has been an all-consuming series for me, and ‘Wind and Truth’ is the perfect way to wrap up the first arc.
