The illustrations in this book were so cute. I really enjoyed the educational piece but wish the text had a bit more structure. I am so excited to buy this for friends once it is published as it really sparks joy in the reader.

Netgalley ARC-
This was incredibly sweet, adorable, wholesome. Impossible not to grin while reading. If you like cats you will like these cute illustrations.

To say I loved this is a massive understatement. This was exactly what I hoped for from just glancing through the synopsis and admiring the cover art. It was such a cute, whimsical, easy read. A huge stress reliever. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

I was about to buy the Mofusand hippers for my love addiction of cats while checking my NetGalley and viola! I got this illustration book from NetGalley (thank you so much as well as to Udon Entertainment for the ARC).

This book is so adorable and educational but please DO NOT expect about the a storytelling one for this. This illustration book is accompanied by short text helping you to learn about Japan and its culture and even cuisine.

A. Art Style & Visual Appeal
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: Stunning, immersive, and elevates the storytelling experience.

B. Storytelling & Narrative
⭐⭐: Some potential, but weak execution or pacing issues.

C. Characters & Dialogue
⭐: Flat, one-dimensional characters with weak dialogue.

D. Emotional Impact
⭐⭐: Some moments of engagement, but overall weak.

E. Pacing & Panel Flow
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: Masterfully paced, making excellent use of the graphic novel format.

I would highly recommend it to Mofusand fans and someone who is looking for an art inspiration to look at.

Cuteness overload! This was the most adorable collection of illustrations / loose stories about traveling cats. There’s cat illustrations with a sentence or two on each page as they travel around Japan, going to an aquarium, a penguin cafe, the beach, eating lots of food and even going to the sauna. There are adorable “mofustagram” posts at the end of each chapter.

On top of being a cute little book, it’s also quite educational - there are cats eating several Japanese dishes, a few pages of regional cats (dressed up in different costumes, sort of Sonny Angel style) - all highlighting different aspects of Japan and Japanese culture.

This is more of an art book than a graphic novel or manga. If you like the cover and style of illustration, I highly recommend picking it up. I would frame so many of these adorable illustrations.

Thank you to the publisher for a copy for review.

I love Mofusand and this was full of adorable illustrations of cats! I wish there was a bit more of a story, but I still enjoyed it all the same.

This is silly but it's one of the cutest things I've ever seen. I'm completely in love with this book. These traveling cats have so many adventures, try all the foods, and they even represent different areas. I will smile every time I look at this. Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this!

"Falling in Love with a Traveling Cat" by JUNO, Mofusand is an adorable and fun read especially for collectors of Mofusand's figures.

I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect with this one. It’s a bit random-there’s no real plot except some cats traveling around Japan, but they seem to have gone everywhere-the book gives all kinds of place and food recommendations. It was a bit of information overload. I think the illustrations, which were GORGEOUS, would be great for a child or adult learning Japanese for the first time.

This book was very cute! I was aware of Mofusand before reading this book, having seen it all over my social media, so when I saw this book was available to read as an ARC I was excited to read it. This book is more of an art book than a book with a story or a plot, but that is about what I expected going into it! The art is, of course, adorable, but the font chosen and the page layouts left a little to be desired. The information about different regions of Japan was fun, but I found myself only looking at the art and barely reading the text at points. This is a cute book to buy if you're a fan of Mofusand, but I would only really recommend it if you want a cute art book.

The kittens in this book are cute. They’re chubby and hesitant and unbelievably adorable. Their slightly sad, slightly deadpan expressions mean it’s often a split second before you internalize how ‘awwwwwwww’-inducing any given picture is, but once you internalize it, it stays. There are a thousand small variations of their reaction and expressions that keep the cuteness fresh. I wish the reader to keep this is mind because this book has a lot of flaws, but the cuteness of the kittens is not one of them.

The main problem is this book is that more or less every object in it besides the kittens is low definition with an odd, MS Paint-reminiscent texture. This especially true for the food and the hats, which is unfortunate because very large chunks of the book are taken up by kittens eating dishes from various locations around Japan and by kittens wearing hats shaped like various objects. The awkwardly cut-and-pasted glass on page 89 or the clip-art looking bicycles on page 42 are just two representative examples.

I hesitate to add this because it seems the thing mostly likely to be changed from the uncorrected proof I read for this review, but the sans-serif typeface used for both the main text of the book and the (perhaps over-frequent) translations of Japanese words on various packaging and props is slick and minimalistic and clashes badly with the tone of the art.

Finally, the painterly, white-space heavy coloring and ragged outlines of the kittens themselves means that they do poorly against pure white backgrounds, which is where they are most often put. This is not a much of a problem in the more elaborate illustrations of the first half of the book, but in the second half the smaller illustrations that play against the illustrator’s strengths get both more frequent and more repetitive.
These flaws do not full overwhelm the achievement of this book, one need only consider the spread on pages 14-15, which is mind-bogglingly adorable despite the awkward texture of the brushstrokes, but these kittens have certainly not been given the book they deserve.

This is so cute!! It's a little chintzy, in terms of the individual page layout/formatting, at least at times, but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to Mofusand content in the US, so I'm definitely getting a copy!

I have a blind box based on the art in this book, so I was happy to see more. Frankly, it's hard to not like the adorable cat art and I am quite fond of my shrimp cat. This kind of reads more like a very abstract picture book rather than an art book, so if anyone is looking for a plot, ostensibly it's about cats going on a trip, but if you are looking for art, you just get a little added narrative. This book is probably skippable for anyone not tempted by the cuteness of cats or people already familiar with the artist, but I had a good time.

While I thought this book was super cute, and the illustrations very adorable, I felt like there was almost no storyline, and not really what I expected.

This book was so cute! The art was fun and the story was exciting. My favorite section was the "Explore an Undersea World at the Aquarium". It was cool to see all the different featured cats and it makes me want to collect some now! Great for all ages but I can see how it will resonate well with a younger demographic.

Okay, this book is absolutely ADORABLE. I want to gift it to several children and adults alike because it was a simple joy to read. The cats are unimaginably cute and I loved all of the details included on their adventures (like not forgetting to pack snacks). This is one of those soft books that are the perfect comfort read when your brain and heart need a bit of a rest and to indulge in silliness and very cute kitties. Loved this!

rating: 5/5

it's no secret that i'm a fan of mofusand and this illustration book does such a good job of highlighting the art style and soul of the characters.

i'd defs recommend this to anyone who is needing a "pick me up", i had some pretty tough days over the 2024 Christmas holidays and everytime i picked up this book, i just felt instant serontonin. Each page was cuter than the last and it flew by so quick!

thank you udon entertainment for this copy <3

*Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!*

I thought that this graphic novel was very cute, but I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I wasn't expecting anything really substantial from it, but it felt pretty repetitive. The only two sections that I really liked were ones about regional foods and cats dressed up as different regional people and popular landmarks. The section about the amusement parks and such would have worked well for me as a bedtime read I guess. Something to turn my brain off.

Overall, writing style was very cute and I thought it was enjoyable to look at it, but I probably wouldn't buy it. 2.5/5 Stars

Thank you Udon Entertainment and Netgalley for this arc.

They use the internet to research trendy destinations! No dull vacays for these kitties. Then they have to pack their bags with food, travel books and deodorizing cat litter making sure everything fits. Oh, and don't forget snacks and toys and passports! The trip is better if you have bento box lunches. Gather around your leader who holds a Kitty Tour flag.

At the popular Baby Penguin Cafe, real baby penguins will serve you. Perhaps some sea-salt ice cream. Or fluffy pancakes. Or ride go-carts at the theme park. Kitties love to eat Meow-velous burgers, spicy tacos, and jumbo hot dogs. It's like an old restaurant where the servers wear roller skates! Camping is fun, too, with hammocks, marshmallow toasting, and butterfly nets. Remember to send Mofustagrams back home. Sure cats enjoy water skiing and parasailing.

Cats wear costumes to show off their prefecture and favorite foods. Then they rejuvenate in a cat bath - especially with rubber duckies - and sauna. Are we chic with banquet crabs worn on our heads? Pack your souvenirs well before heading home.

I had never seen the Mofusand cats before but I am in love with these charming kitties. Their travels show off various parts and cities of Japan. There's really not much more plot than reading about adorably drawn, slightly anthropomorphic cats going on a journey. But yes, I love them. B+
