A Dragon of Black Glass (Moonfall, #3)
by James Rollins
A thrilling venture of loss, conquest and finding your own place. The phenomenal power given a young girl trying to solve the worlds problems. With moonfall coming close to the brink, the dying world has more to loose. The people are influenced by manipulation, and bent on their own destruction.
The characters have levels they do not even know. Each finding hard choices and hard truths. What we sacrifice for the world may just be what little that needs to be saved.

l lost all respect for this author when he had a man of unnamed age swoon after a 14 year old GIRL’S body. All while still trying to find out if she was his half sister or not. Literally non of that is necessary.

This was so good. I loved the plot and characters. It was paced perfectly. I didn't wanna put it down and was on the edge of my seat

OK that escalated the situation, aside from the looming Moonfall that is. "A Dragon of Black Glass" by James Rollins is the penultimate book in the series, nows a good time to jump in if you have been sleeping on it.
Well the crew is taking their airship to a land this ginger can't follow, a desert. The second engine for the planet is located in a land of obsidian and new horrors. Nyx also is being a bit fast and loose with her powers, which leads to some AWKWARD situations. Kanthe is also dealing with being the voice of action, trying to spur action against his brother (the worst) to salvage the world. The window for Moonfall is rapidly closing and an ancient devil's legs are no longer asleep, in the endgame now.
Reasons to read:
-Seriously need this guy to die, keeps finding new ways to be the worst
-Giant bats
-Characters being weirded out by tenuous connections and not immediately being buddy buddy
-The biggest flirt
-Great wildlife
Cons:
-How dare you make me think that was their ending!

I was excited to receive all three books in this trilogy. I fully expected to love it. Unfortunately, I only got through about half of the first book before giving up. The writing style just isn't for me.
I'm adding a star rating only because I have to in order to submit this. But I won't be reading this one, since I didn't like the first book.

Definitely a must read if you've started the series. It picks up where it left off and continues the adventure.

I loved reading this book! I love his writing and this series, and I was really excited to get to this latest installment. The threat is looming ever closer, they're on a tight schedule, and keep running into situations that slow them down. I mean, we know from the opening chapters of these books that they're going to succeed, it's just at what cost. Like, even if they succeed, a lot of people are going to die, regardless, it's just that they hope that some will survive, but if they don't, then no one will live. That's a big draw, but also following alongside these characters as they go on this adventure.
This was basically the same groups as the previous book, but Nyx's group were moving onto the scorched side of Urth, but adding on the some of the new people they've met along the way, and minus those that didn't survive. I really enjoyed seeing and exploring this new part of the world!
Honestly, I was pretty worried about Nyx. That the synopsis hinted at Nyx's actions falling in line with what Kryst Eligor wanted, it was tense. We've been following Nyx since the beginning, and I ddn't want to believe it of her, but just the idea...not great.
This book has a lot going on, of course, between the war and their efforts to get Urth spinning again. James Rollins always done such a good job of balancing all the narratives, and always ending a chapter when you want more, so you have to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next!
That last chapter though? That was really heartbreaking, what he was sacrificing, and it just showed how much of a villain he was. If I didn't already want to strangle him, that definitely pushed me over the edge. That act was just pure evil, for the sake of power, and I hope he's haunted by it for the rest of his days, may they be numbered.
Absolutely loved reading this book, and I can't wait for book 4!

This is the third book in the Moonfall Saga so I would say to read the previous books to get the best feel for the characters and all the plot's intricacies.
While I would say that Nyx is our main character, we follow a large cast. As the story progresses we meet new people and groups that all become important in stopping Moonfall and you find yourself invested in what and how each person and group are doing.
I love the twists and turns the story takes and how the story is moving forward.
I can't wait to see how it all is going to end!!!!

More complex than the other two, Rollins shines in his third epic fantasy A Dragon of Black Glass. Rollins seamlessly weaves complex characters and interesting storylines from the previous two novels in a way that keeps you enthralled in what's to come next.

This has been an incredible journey so far and I am looking forward to continuing on with this series. I was not expecting the cliffhanger, but it just makes me want to get my hands on the next book! I will definitely be recommending this series to friends and family!

This series is really coming together nicely in the penultimate book! The characters are very complex and yet easy to understand as Rollins has really grown these characters over three books. Things get pretty dark in this one and Rollins does a better job at hiding the plot twists and keeping the readers on our toes.
The pacing felt pretty good for a 600 page book and the world-building continues to be impressive as we see more of the world where life just seems to be finding a way. Again my only complaint is that the magic system feels so nebulous and without bounds.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Thank you so much for opportunity to read this book!I feel like pacing in this book was even better and the stackes are higher !! It’s has excellent job with continuing a story and I can’t wait for the next book!

This book cured my Onyx Storm hangover. While that was a tough act to follow, I truly enjoyed reading this third book in the Moonfall series. This book follows Kanthe and Nix as they separate and have their own tasks to complete. Nix is off to the burning sands and Kanthe begins his journey as the new husband to Empress Aalia of the Southern Klashe. There is betrayal, fighting, political machinations and love in this huge story. There are a ton of characters and James Rollins does a good job of helping to remind those of us who haven't read the previous books in a while, who everyone is and how they relate to the story. There is a Cast of Characters in the beginning and a Glossary at the end to help remember all the fantasy names and words. This is an intriguing story and I am sucked in waiting for the next installment. True fantasy story. Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for allowing me to read an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A little bit of background...I bought the first book in this series two years ago in a used bookstore on a whim, and then finally got around to reading it this past January. And it was AMAZING. So naturally, I bought the second one and powered through that one as well, only to find out, SURPRISE, the third one was coming out and available as an ARC!! Talk about fate. The third book in James Rollins' Moonfall series, was A Dragon of Black Glass, was the pièce de résistance of the series (so far). Absolutely *chef's kiss*. That being said, I recommend reading the first two books in the series before reading this one, not just because they're amazing, but the plot and character arcs are stretched over the series and make more sense with all of the earlier information.
A Dragon of Black Glass picks up almost immediately where book 2, A Cradle of Ice, leave off; after the defeat of the Spider in the Frozen Wastes. The main characters are split up into 2 groups, each with a different task. Nyx's group -- including her mount Bashaliia, Daal & his team and their mounts, Graylin & Kalder, Jace & Krysh, Raife & Shiya, Darant & his crew -- is heading to the Barrens on the Fyredragon wyndship to find the second turubya (a machine that when activated, will hopefully fix the Moonfall problem). Along the way they pick up a guide, Esme, and her molag (crab) companion Crikit and then continue their journey towards the Dragon.
Kanthe's group -- including Rami, Cassata, Tykan & Frell -- are trying to sneak into Highmount to steal King Mikaen's weapon, and find the location of a key. Failing that, Hallendi and the Southern Klashe go to war, with significant losses and betrayals on both sides. Mikaen's bronze god, Kryst Eligor, becomes too powerful and must be destroyed, but no one seems to be able to stop him, and he must not reach the key first or all humanity will be destroyed. It is a race against time and good vs. evil in this story where the future looks very bleak.
I love, love, LOVED this book! I cannot say enough good things about it. I have enjoyed the series as a whole, but this book in particular was very emotional. Chapter 76 absolutely destroyed me, and I was legit SOBBING while reading in bed at 12:30 at night, and my husband woke up so confused. Rollins does an amazing job of blending advanced technology into a human world, and making you care deeply about characters and their fates. Crikit is my favorite character; and if Mikaen died a horrible death, I would not be sad.
Not to mention, I am so invested in this Moonfall endeavor, that I know there has to be at least 1 more book, right? Because now we dealt with the turubyas and know where the key is, so the resolution good or bad must be inevitable, right?? I sure hope so, but Book 4 cannot come out soon enough!! I need to know how this saga ends!!
If you love fantasy thrillers, I recommend this book and this series 1000%. You will not be disappointed. I honestly wish I had read it sooner! I will be recommending it to everyone I know who likes fantasy novels!

I can't believe I hadn't heard of this series till last year! Absolutely incredible. Getting the third book almost right after I finished the second was such a joy! I can not wait to read where this goes.

I enjoyed the unique world that Rollins has created in this series and was excited to jump back in. Since it has been a couple years since I read the second book, I found it hard to remember every character, at least the secondary characters, in the very beginning. Other than that, I thought the pacing was good and that this third book really started to pull everything together. We have higher stakes and characters, especially Nyx, acting more drastically. I will say that I enjoyed Nyx and the Fyredragon crew chapters a little more than Kanthe and his crew's chapters .. I think because those felt the most unique in the fantasy genre.
I can't wait to read the next!

Nyx and her friends are on a new mission. They have heard there is an old weapon that will help them on their quest, but there are others who want to see her group fail. Under the dessert glass are things that can help and things that can kill. Around the world is another power that may save or destroy the world. Can Nyx trust any of the people she comes across? What secrets about herself will she discover?
A Dragon of Black Glass is the third book in the Moonfall series. It has been two years since I finished the second book in the series and I felt there wasn’t enough at the beginning of this book to pull me back into the story. Overall the story dragged and I questioned why I decided to continue the series. Some will like this book, but only those who thoroughly enjoyed the first two volumes.

For some reason, I thought the Moonfall series was a trilogy but I quickly realized as I approached the halfway mark that there was no way that a proper ending was coming in A Dragon of Black Glass. James Rollins quickly brings you back into a chaotic world in which Nyx and Daal in the desert and Prince Kanthe and his group of friends tries to stop the monstrosity of the bronze god Eligor being brought to life by Wyeth and now the king himself, sacrificing those he claims to love in the name of power.
There is a lot of information in this book and I sort of wish there had been a quick "previously in the Moonfall series" to refresh your memory of who and what was happening because there are a ton of characters, along with new faces and new places...it can be a bit much to get into the groove of the story but once you do? What a ride! Very much looking forward to the next/last book in the series!

I must start by thanking both NetGalley as well as the publisher Tor books for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Ever darkening as we get further into this Moonfall series. The third book heightens the serious nature of the pending disaster as we get closer and closer to the climax. Will all survive? I look forward to the next.

A brilliant fantasy with grit and unpredictable characters. Rollins’ talent for storytelling and well-crafted prose kept me engaged throughout this third installment of the Moonfall series.
Thank you NetGalley and Tor Publishing Group for the advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
