Quick review for a quick read. That was definitely one interesting start to this serial novella. Tiffany Reisz's "The Last Good Knight" starts off steamy and ends with a big bang. Many of the main cast of characters from Reisz's "Original Sinners" series are featured in this story. Nora namely, but Soren and the mention of Kingsley are present. But the reason this entry in the novella is called "Scars and Stripes" is because it depicts the encounter between Nora and an ex-Navy SEAL named Lance. In such a short period of time, you learn about Lance's background, his experiences, *cough* his preferences as a sub*cough* and also get a chance to see the connection that him and Nora have. This was a relationship that not only had good chemistry, but also a power dynamic that I liked watching even with how brief it was. I mentioned in one of my status updates that Nora's a fair combination of corny and horny, and her quips alongside Lance's did make me laugh in a few moments here.
Of course, I expected that something would happen at the end of this brief tale to lead the subsequent serial parts off with a bang, and it does so while teetering on making the reader ask "What the heck is going on?" I plan on picking up the rest of the novella, but for the first part - it's a good entry.
Overall score: 3.5/5 stars.
Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher.
