Quick review for a quick read. I read this back in 2021 and am slowly combing my way back through my review backlog. This was a consistent entry from Tiffany Reisz in "The Last Good Knight" novella series/serial. Published originally back in 2014 and can be read as a companion to Reisz's "Original Sinners" series featuring characters from that.

The last entry left on a cliffhanger and has Kingsley, Nora, and Soren all rushing back to be briefed as a mistress that was from their group was assaulted and left with a concussion. Nora has a stalker and there's a possibility that she is in danger and being targeted deliberately. As a result, she has to lay low, but Nora worries about her career prospects and confesses such to Kingsley. Nora's assigned a bodyguard, but...there's a catch considering the bodyguard is someone that Nora has been intimate with (*cough* Lance, from the previous story *cough*). Kingsley is adamant that they don't have the distraction of sex with what's going on, and threatens Lance's career if they do. Nora and Lance have opportunities to get to know each other, their "sore spots" if you will, meaning complicated life details. But then it ends on a cliffhanger with Nora deciding if she can't have one man, well...

This was okay. I gave it 3 stars; I don't think it was as strong as the first entry. Thinking about it since I've been away from it, it's solid in establishing another piece of conflict in this series, but didn't pull me in. It's a short, steamy read with a bit of mystery and character expansion. Lance has good chemistry with Nora, and he seems to fit in with the cast given the context of this series. I still don't like Soren. I've never liked Soren from this series (among several other aspects of it), but I follow this to see where it goes.

Will be picking this series back up soon to finish through it. I do like how short and easy it is to fly through these serial pieces. I don't pick up serial novels/novellas often, but when I do, they definitely compel me to continue. Reisz's writing is solid, she pulls me into what I read from her.

Overall score: 3/5 stars.

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher.
