This book was cute, funny, and heartfelt, and it was basically a love letter to every nerdy kid out there who’s ever been part of a fandom and made it their entire personality. Alex and Devin were tons of fun as the protagonists, and were the perfect example of opposites attract. She’s prickly, unapproachable, and closed off, and he’s charming, cocky, and earnest. They are both flawed and have so much baggage, and it was nice to read about people who were older (she’s in her 30s and he’s in his early 40s). I think this would be a great introductory book for people who want to try a werewolf romance for the first time, because it was primarily a romcom with tons of fandom references, and had a side plot of paranormal romance. It was a fun, quick read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I've previously loved Rosie Danan books, but this one fell short for me. The female mc is fun and badass, whereas the male mc is a total jerk with bad behavior that never really gets explained away. I can't abide by a shitty dude.

Holy werewolf, I loved this book so much! The hilarious combination of a washed up, totally self-involved Hollywood heartthrob and the literal mod of the TV shows internet fandom, had me hooked. Not to mention the slow building chemistry and undeniable draw to one another.

Alex and Devin were such strong,
relatable character in their own ways. I’m not usually one for a redemption arc, but Rosie made me flip a switch from hating Devin to actually rooting for him. I loved their past and present stories!

♥︎ Thank you NetGalley,Berkley Romance and Rosie Danan for the ARC of Fan Service!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was funny and spicy and I stayed up until 2am finishing it. I think if you like fanfiction then you’ll enjoy this book and its many references and nods to CW fandoms.

I’m not 100% sure how to categorize this book because while it quite obviously deals with a werewolf, it doesn’t at all feel like a paranormal romance. Maybe because there is one lone werewolf. But it very much felt like a meta, self insert, fanfic.

I loved Alex, a prickly baddie who tries to act aloof when she is really the biggest softie. Who else would help their celebrity arch nemesis through a werewolf transition?

I did like Devin, but I found it really hard to believe he was in his 40s. I feel like he could have been a bit younger and the plot would still make sense along with his maturity. I loved his growth and how genuinely upset he was when he learned how he hurt Alex in the past.

I think my biggest complaint is how are you going to have a werewolf romance with no knotting!

Omg this was such a fun ride!!! I had an excellent time with Alex & Devin, and I loved their black cat x golden retriever so much!

I really hope Rosie Danan keeps writing these paranormal-ish romcoms because they are a blast. Devin is the ultimate foot-in-mouth-disease himbo with a heart of gold, and I loved seeing them both grow into more healed versions of themselves as they move through the story.

This was one of the easiest five stars I’ve given a romance in a while. What a stunning love letter to members of fandoms everywhere, and an incredible take on a paranormal romance. Devin and Alex have my whole heart. They took me on such a beautiful and fun journey, and this book went so much deeper that I ever imagined it would. Topics like learning how to accept yourself, accept love, open your heart, facing your past, facing your reality, and an abundance of other incredible important experiences all blended into this book so seamlessly. The text messages and forum features were some of my favorite moments within the pages, and while there were a multitude of comedic breaks, this story touched me as so much more than I could have hoped. Not to mention…. the spice had me picking my jaw up from the floor and applauding Rosie for some truly memorable work. A werewolf romance is no easy feat, but this? This was a breath of fresh air. This took me back to middle and high school when I lived and breathed for anything with a touch of these characters and tropes, and reminded me that I need to get back into reading more like this…. immediately.

i wanted to love this but it just didn’t hit the mark for me. i felt devin for 42, was very immature and not nice to alex at all. i did enjoy the fanfic aspect of it and felt that was fun, i would definitely recommend if you enjoy paranormal contemporary romances.

4.5 STARS ⭐

Fan Service by Rosie Danan was such a joy to read! There were laugh out moments but also those rare moments where we get a glimpse of Devin's past, and it's then you understand why he's a jerk. His character growth was so good to see, though! I especially loved Alex's role in helping Devin realize he's more than just his former character Colby Southerland.

Devin Anderson was so down bad for Alex 🥹! My heart couldn't take it. Especially those moments when his wolf side wanted to tear the world apart for her, and he had to tell it to calm down 🫠😮‍💨 *be still my heart*.

Devin was literally a golden retriever and Alex the black cat. There was even a scene where he just wanted to roll around on her rug and bask in her scent 🥹.

This book was a shout-out to all those fandom girlies out there who love stories, characters, and worlds with a passion! I adore Rosie's rom-coms, and the premise to this one was so much fun! If you're a fan of Teen Wolf, then you will really enjoy this one!!

Thanks to Berkley and NetGalley for this eARC!

Love Rosie Danan, and this was a very fun romp. A tiny bit of a departure from her Shameless series, not quite as great as Do Your Worst (which I lovedddddd), but such a fun, light fantasy! If the description sounds good to you, or if you were a teen supernatural show fan, get on this!

If I were more into/aware of the fandom behind where this book was inspired maybe i'd like it more. This just fell flat for me.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would!!! Inject it into my veins. I’ve literally never felt so seen by an author before. Rosie, are you sure you weren’t reading my high school diary when you wrote this one?

Truly, I’ve been screaming about this book to all of my friends who will listen. I think it’s perfect for anyone who grew up with a love of fandom, and now find themselves gravitating to AO3 as an adult.

There wasn’t a single negative thing about this book for me. Thank you thank you thank you Berkley for giving me the chance to read it in advance!

Fan Service by Rosie Danan is a fascinatingly unique spicy romcom with a bite of paranormal that readers will wolf down. A young adult werewolf detective star & one of his biggest fans are reunited later in life when said fledging TV star wakes up a literal werewolf & seeks out the most knowledgeable fan & curator of the detective series website from years prior for help. A series of werewolf tests & trials & full moon of forced proximity that has these two on one unexpected adventure.

This is a love letter to the fandoms , especially those of the paranormal & supernatural young adult shows & the creativity & cleverness of the fans & the community they create.

Fan Service is great for those looking to read…
💙 Spicy Rom-Com with Paranormal
💙 Werewolf Detective TV Star Turned Werewolf Hero
💙 Vet Tech & Big Fan of Said Werewolf Detective Show Heroine
💙 Fandoms
💙 Series of Werewolf Tests & Trials
💙 Age Gap (Heroine-34 & Hero-42)
💙 Bisexual Heroine With Self-Professed Love of Black Clothing

This was such an intriguing read & I love watching their relationship grow. This hero ended up being so swoon worthy. I loved how he stood up for her. They had a howl lot of chemistry. I also always appreciate “older” main characters.

This also showcases a lot of nuances with parasocial relationships & hero worship along with the hurts of past struggles and growing up & gaining more understanding and healing.

I could easily see this becoming a really fun movie. Fan Service is truly a service to the fans & the fandoms with this wild, feral & furtastic time of a spicy paranormal romcom.

Massive thanks to NetGalley & Berkley Publishing for the gifted copy, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.

I will start my review by saying I fully signed up for this story for the cover art and the premise LOL I mean imagine falling for your fandom crush after he turns into a werewolf? BOUND for conundrums at least. And that’s exactly what you get with Devin and Alex; the most golden retriever/black cat couple I’ve ever read. Devin is such a perplexing character; he goes from jaded, grown-up child actor to Hollywood jerk/himbo to feral obsessive shifter caring man. I liked seeing his growth though; Devin was VERY jaded in his life and it wasn’t just Alex who seemed to bring him peace; it was the quiet everyday life she loved. You may feel that Alex being the #1 Devin Ashwood fan of all time would have added a awkward level to their relationship but honestly, it gets stuck in Alex’s head more than anything else. Her fear of abandonment after giving her all (yet she does exactly that to those closest to her) held her back more than what could’ve been a tricky hurdle of her “fan” identity.

Through all the ups and downs of Devin and Alex trying to manage his new werewolf abilities, there are so many scenes about acceptance, humility, recognizing one’s self. Interspersed with some absolutely hilarious imagery (I’m sorry but a human man caught on camera “shifting” into his character that he used to play was so cringey but funny) and one heck of a twisty ending; sign me up for more Danan rom-coms!

Thank you Rosie & Team for a free copy!

I was sooooo excited to jump back into the world of Rosie Danon, and Fan Service was just the thing to curb my appetite. I loved getting to read about characters in their 30s and 40s; that's definitely something that most people do not ever try and touch. I also loved that we were shown a woman in her 30's that still has the fandom gene! I am 30 and still a fangirl at heart so it was nice to see that in Alex. Alex's style was also really awesome! I love a punk/goth girl turned woman! Devin was such a funny character. His inner wolf also having "dialogue" made for a really fun read. I did questions his maturity level a few times, but I think that could be excused away because he's grown up in Hollywood as an actor. Overall, this was a fun read and I'm excited to see more from Danan in the future!

Binged this today while doing chores/laundry and it was SO worth it. This book was exactly what I needed at the time - just a low stakes silly goofy story. There were multiple times I laughed out loud and I honestly just had a great time reading it.

Imagine Bride by Ali Hazelwood and The Fake Mate by Lana Ferguson had a baby. That’s this book. Vibes are great. Good on both audio or physical - there’s benefits to both. He growls a lot in the audio though so I say the benefits are slightly heavier there 😌.

It took me a minute to get into this enemies to lovers, dual POV, celebrity x small town Florida vet tech romcom but boy once I was in, I was IN!!! Highly recommended for anyone who ever shipped a 2000s WB showmance or enjoyed books like Celebrity crush. It was also excellent on audio narrated by Aaron Shedlock and Brittany Pressley. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @prhaudio for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review!

Devin Ashwood was a former child star turned heartthrob on his long-running supernatural show. Now he’s forty-two, washed up, and desperate to try and get the show rebooted. His life isn’t going his way…then he finds out he may have been turned into a werewolf. What’s a wolfman to do? The only thing he can do in this wild situation: track down the moderator of the most extensive fan forum The Arcane Files had and seek their guidance. Alex Lawson had her childhood crush on Devin quashed when she met him as a teenager. The fact that he shows up in her hometown wanting her help is laughable. Until truth turns out to be stranger than fiction. Now they need to use her knowledge to help Devin learn to control his wolf. But Devin isn’t the only one with lessons to learn…

Fan Service is a love letter to fandoms wrapped up in a chaotic (in a good way) romance. I admit, I had mixed feelings about this book in the beginning but Rosie Danan pulled me in over the course of the story and I was loving it by the end.

Devin is kind of insufferable at first. He’s desperate to revive his career but he’s also just plain shallow. Alex is prickly and stand-offish which makes sense given how she’s still bullied in her town even as an adult. The first half of Fan Service was a bit slow for me because the characters and even their wacky situation didn’t really draw me in (unusual for me with Danan’s writing). That being said, the story seriously picked up at the halfway point and I fell in love with Alex and Devin. Yes, Devin is desperate and wants to be loved but as he starts becoming more human (ironic given his situation) he becomes an endearing hero who is messy and more complex than he seems at first. There are parts of his story that simply broke my heart. Alex pushes people away but Devin barrels through her walls and I loved seeing her come into her own. She’s strong, smart, and cares so much that it was delightful to see her find someone she could learn to lean on as well.

Devin’s journey into controlling his werewolf side was highly entertaining. I loved that Alex was able to use her vast knowledge of the Arcane Files fandom to help him. Equally engaging was the romance. Once things picked up between Devin and Alex, Danan turned up the heat in delicious ways. The result was a sensual, sweet, and fun romance. So while I struggled with Fan Service in the first half, I still enjoyed the second half so much that I recommend the book.

yeahhhhh so this was a little disappointing.

I truly think the concept was so different and fun; however, the execution really fell flat for me. I think the plot really worked and I loved the paranormal aspects throughout. I really enjoyed the trials aspect and I truly thought that this was love letter to the fangirls.

My main issue was with the MMC. This man was fully acting like a child and frankly, a terrible human being at his grown age of 42. Every time I remembered how old Devin was, I couldn't move past the immaturity and the way he was treating Alex through it all.

Sad to say that I wasn't a fan.

Thank you Berkley Romance and Rosie Danan for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Alex Lawson runs an online fan forum for her favorite werewolf detective show, The Arcane Files. She is famous for her knowledge and passion for the supernatural. She loves The Arcane Files, but it's star Devin Ashwood, not so much!

Devin Ashwood is out of a job and has been fired by his agent. To make matters worse, he woke up buck-naked outside his L.A. home after the 'once-in-a-century Wolf Blood Moon'. Things are changing and he is in dire need of some help. Who does he turn to????? You guessed it, Alex Lawson!

Man, I was hoping I would love this book as much as I loved the author's previous book, The Intimacy Experiment. But as book readers know, we can't love them all. While I found this book to be a worthwhile read, I didn't love it. Devin is 42 but comes across as a young 20 ish man. Sure, he came from L.A. and grew up with glitter, glam, no boundaries and adoration, but he just felt much younger than his stated age.

What did work was the challenges that both characters faced. Each was quirky and played off each other well. This book also looks at fans, online fan forums, what it is like to be in the limelight, and the downside of fame. While Fan Service did not have me howling at the moon, it did entertain and had me smiling a few times.

This was my third book by Rosie Danan, and I do look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
