I believe Adrienne Young can do no wrong. The way she writes makes you feel like you're there. Her descriptions are flawless and her characters are flawed and believable.
I loved so many things about this book. While I don't think it's the best book of hers that I've ever read, I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.

I didn't understand how Autumn was never reported missing by her family. Perhaps there is an explanation in Adrienne Young's head that didn't ever get put into words, but I don't recall anything about a falling out with her parents or some such. I just don't understand how Autumn could have been gone for so long without someone wondering where she was. Family? Friends? It just didn't make sense. That's the only reason why I didn't give this one 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book and find this author’s prose to be beautiful. The relationship between the siblings was intriguing to me as an only child. Solid read.

Adrienne Young creates impeccable and vivid imagery. Her novels make you want to curl up in a big cozy blanket next to a fire. She always delivers exactly what I want. Although not nearly as good as The Unmaking of June Farrow, this is a close second.
The small-town atmosphere mixed with magical realism, mystery, and romance will always be my cup of tea.

I really wanted to like this one. And I do love this author’s writing and vibes. If I hadn’t read “Spells for Forgetting” by Adrienne Young (which I recommend!), I probably would have liked this one more. But the 2 are way too similar to feel like something new. I will definitely be reading more from this author though!!
The plot was very slow and I didn’t feel like anything happened- no twists, no surprises. Including the ending, which was disappointing. Can’t share more without spoilers but this was my face while reading it :🙂↔️😬🥴
Thank you to the publisher Dell / Random House Publishing , NetGalley, and author for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Adrienne Young writes so beautifully, twining magical realism into this mysterious plot with interesting characters.

Thank you Adrienne Young and Netgalley for the e-arc. I am leaving this review voluntarily and all opinions are my own.
This book was mysterious and had hints of "magic".
The middle did feel like it stretched on a little bit, but it did pick up eventually and end nicely.

I thought the writing was beautiful but unfortunately I didn't find the murder mystery or the characters interesting. Without spoiling anything, some plotlines never got wrapped up or they didn't matter at all. I also thought the "magical realism" part was lacking.

Wow, this was so atmospheric and vibey! I loved the mystery and having only ever read a viking book by this author before, was so pleasantly surprised by their versatility. I tend to really love small town focused stories with very tight knit communities, and this checked all those boxes for me - really enjoyed it!

I've only read Adrienne's Sky in the Deep series (which I loved). I took this ARC without reading the blurb and I'm glad I did. I don't venture a lot into thriller/mystery books usually but this was a nice change of pace. I loved how atmospheric it was without being slow or cozy. I wasn't really invested in the romance but as a whole I liked the story line. would recommend for a good rainy day read/listen.
Thank you so much to the author, Random House and Netgalley for this ARC. I attest that I am leaving my review voluntarily and honestly.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Adrienne Young is such a beautiful writer. I always love how all her books are atmospheric right from the start. Her books always get me in my feels. This one was no different. This book was very character driven and I liked how the mystery slowly unveiled.
If you like literary mysteries with family dramas, a second chance romance, with a dash of paranormal vibes, then read this book!

4.25/5 stars
THE ATMOSPHERE! Adrienne Young has an uncanny ability to sweep the reader away and place them in such rich and atmospheric settings. The mystery that was weaved throughout the story kept me hooked to every page.
Let's start with James. She is such an interesting character! Growing up in a rural small town, kind of like Six Rivers, I can relate to the tight-knit community that is resistant to outsiders. I can also relate to struggling to fit in or find yourself while there. I loved her and Micah together. I also really liked the different characters we are introduced to, like Olivia and Sadie. I thought about their backstory and connection to Johnny. The different threads kept me intrigued without leaving me so confused that it lowered my enjoyment.
Eerie, creepy stories with a dash of magical realism/paranormal/fantasy are some of my favorites to read. I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did! There were moments when I didn't guess the reveal, and moments when I felt vindicated when it was revealed that I guessed right.

I don't think Adrienne could write a book I would not love, I truly just love her writing. Adrienne Young has done it again! A Sea of Unspoken Things is an absolute triumph, a mesmerizing blend of mystery, nostalgia, and hauntingly beautiful magical realism that will pull you in from the very first page. With this novel, the author masterfully crafts a gripping, emotionally charged story about a woman who returns to her hometown after a decade, haunted by the tragic death of her twin brother—a death she believes was no accident. As she unravels the layers of grief and confronts long-buried memories, James must also face the chilling, unresolved mystery that drove her away all those years ago. "A Sea of Unspoken Things" is very much a character-driven story, and I think the characters are all unique, engaging and fully fleshed out. I loved the gritty, atmospheric nature she presents, as well as her beautiful prose. I was so intrigued with not just one, but the multiple mysteries woven in throughout. The romance was not center stage, but that felt right for a story that was more so focused on the dynamics of the twin connection, as well as their shared and individual traumas and the ways in which that impacted each of their lives. Those short lived moments of between James and Micha were my favorites, I go crazy for a second chance romance. Don't even hesitate, just go for it you'll love it.

I was so hopeful in reading this book, but I was let down. The pacing was off and left me feeling uninterested sadly. I had to DNF because there was very little intrigue while reading. It could be the mindset I was in but there was very little interest :(

This was a slow burn for me. I found myself with James through the story as she worked to unpiece what exactly led to her twin brother's death. But it was almost a little too slow. While I didn't see the ending coming, I would've hoped I'd be more excited to find out the truth. Instead, I was just sort of content with how the mystery unraveled.

I was truthfully worried about whether or not i would like this book. I ended up loving it. It captured me and i was hooked from the beginning.

I really enjoyed this book. This is my first Adrienne Young book and I cannot wait to go back and read Spells for Forgetting and The Unmaking of June Farrow.
This story follows James Golden who's twin brother was killed in a tragic accident. She has always been deeply connected to her brother and she knew her brother was gone even before she got the phone call about his passing. James returns to her home town to settle her brother's affairs and she is forced to rehash their past and face the only person who knows about it, Micah. Micah also happens to be the only man that she has ever loved.
James soon discovers that her deep connection with Johnny is not gone and the more she starts digging through his life, the more questions she has about what she thought she knew about her brother. Johnny was keeping secrets and those secrets may have actually got him killed.
I listened to this book on audio and I think that added to the experience. I really enjoyed Young's writing style and she is very good at making you feel like you are actually in the story. While this was a slow burn mystery, I felt like this was a good thing, because it allowed you to peel back all the layers, before the final bang at the end (which I did not see coming). This book is very atmospheric and definitely moody, which shined through in the audiobook.
Read if you like:
-Magical realism
-Atmospheric reads
-Mysteries
-Slow burn
-Sibling connections
-Small town
-Lots of twists

Wow. This book was beautiful. The story, the writing, everything. Can’t wait to read more from this author

Adrienne Young is an auto-buy for me. So when I found out she had a new book coming I jumped at the chance to read it. I was not at all disappointed.
A Sea of Unspoken Things is a bit of a thriller, a coming home story, and a light romance as well (no steamy scenes, all closed door). The characters feel like real human beings and the drama that plays out is natural, conversations flowed and made sense.
I deducted one star because the story dragged at times, and I was not a fan of the ending (but maybe YOU might be!).
James, Johnny, and Micah pop off the page. This was a really good book about the choices people make, their consequences, family and found family, and what "home" really means.
TW: allusions to power imbalance SA, SA, talk of suicide, pregnancy, death.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this novel.

★★★½
I basically read this book almost all at once. I also did part of it on audiobook, which I recommend—the narrator was really good! I got this ARC back in January but just now got around to reading it. I didn’t love The Unmaking of June Farrow like a lot of people did, so I was hesitant to pick this one up… but honestly, I’m in the unpopular opinion here that this was better. I felt more invested, it was a quick read, and I never felt bored.
That said, the plot didn’t feel particularly unique or amazing, but overall, I’d still recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a fast, engaging read and great writing!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

Another great book by Adrienne Young, it was so magical and spellbinding. The pace is a bit slow, but that’s what I liked about it so much. The author created such an interesting and immersive atmosphere that I felt captivated by the writing and the story.
