This was not my first Hannah Bonam- Young book. but it was my favorite so far. Out of the Woods was a great read!

This book is absolutely perfect. It healed me in ways I didn’t even know I needed. Sarah is me, I am Sarah. I resonated so deeply with her thoughts and feelings. As a girl who also married her high school sweetheart, there is so much change and complexity in our relationship that is difficult to convey, but HBY DID THAT!!! I felt this book in my bones. I didn’t think anything could top Out on a Limb, but I am SO happy to be wrong.

I loved everything about OOTW. I don’t have one single negative thing to say. If you don’t like this book, I don’t trust your judgment. That is how strongly I feel about it.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again—HBY could write a romance novel where two squirrels fall in love, and I’d give it 5 stars. Words could never truly explain how her books make me feel. How she writes the most beautiful love stories intertwined with the toughest topics and battles will always amaze me, and I deeply appreciate how much time and effort she puts in to making sure that those topics and battles are portrayed in the most accurate way possible.

This book made me smile, laugh, and UGLY cry. There were moments in this book that quite literally struck my heart, and I knew even before the end that this would be a 5 star read—just like every other HBY book I have read. Going on this journey with Caleb and Sarah was raw, real, and so unbelievably beautiful. I truly cannot wait for the world to read this book in January.

Out on a Limb was one of my favorite romance books of 2024 so I was very excited to get an ARC. Out of the Woods is a “marriage in crisis” trope about Sarah and Caleb, a high school sweetheart couple who, after 17 years together, are in the midst of a rough patch. They embark on a weeklong couples therapy style hiking trip in an effort to reconnect. It’s a dual timeline story that alternates between the early days of their relationships as teens with current day. Getting an understanding of who they were early on their relationship and what drew them together was a helpful way to understand some of the nuances of their relationship. I really appreciate a romance where the MCs are mature adults and this book definitely checked that box. The pace of the book was a little slow for me I did enjoy and appreciate the book. I would love to see a third book in the same universe.

I was really looking foward to read Out of the Woods! Out on a Limb has become one of my favorite stories of all time. Win and Bo (and Gus) stole my heart and seeing them again in Sarah and Caleb's story was an incredible bonus!

I really enjoyed the story, but I'll admit it doesn't come close to OOAL for me. Sarah and Caleb have a beautiful and complex story. They've known each other since they were 14 and basically grew up together. It was great to have both timelines: when they met and now, when they're going through marriage issues. I love that the author sort of got inspired in her own marriage to write the novel and I really identified with Sarah's dilemmas, her desire for self-discovery, her need to conquer her own achievements and her wish to overcome old obstacles that prevented her from moving forward, like her mother's illness.

The outdoor therapy Reignite was really cool and full a lot of laughter and cute moments, in addition to introducing really fun secondary characters that made the story's pace lighter.

2 things I didn't like so much, the first: during most of the book, I felt a slight distance between the couple, I couldn't connect as much as I would have liked, I don't know how to explain it, but I felt something was missing from them. Second (and this could be a spoiler): I found Caleb's accident a bit unnecessary, it only made Sarah's trauma worse and didn't add much to their evolution as a couple, since they were basically all good again. But the epilogue was really beautiful and gave us MORE of Win and Bo (these two seem like two rabbits in heat, making babies lef and right, lol).

Anyway, despite these issues, it was a great story and I enjoyed returning to Hannah Bonam-Young's universe, I always want to read more of her!

I was lucky enough to receive Out of the Woods as an ARC (enter fangirl screaming here) and absolutely loved it!
Sarah and Caleb have imprinted on my heart! Sarah’s journey through grief and trying to find who she is while also being married to her soulmate was so moving. I laughed, I cried, and I swooned! Caleb’s loyalty and love for Sarah was awe inspiring and something we-as romance readers-dream about. The love story of Sarah and Caleb was heartwarming.
I’m a huge fan of Hannah Bonam-Young’s books and this my new favorite! I highly recommend it!!

This book was AMAZING. I read it in less than 24 hours, I just couldn’t put it down. The writing is so good. I feel like I could really connect with the characters and empathize with them. The plot was also really good. Everything was just so well thought out and felt so real.

Also Caleb and Sarah>>>> I love their relationship so much. I really enjoyed watching them find themselves and work on their relationship.

I was worried that there would be an excessive amount of drama just for the sake of it, but it was totally worth it. I like that there wasn’t a silly miscommunication that kept the characters apart for the whole story, they were honest and knew where the other stood from pretty early on. At times I felt like I wasn’t getting enough of Caleb and Sarah together, but I understand it’s because the story is more about Sarah figuring out why she’s unhappy with how her life has turned out, and her relationship is a part of it. Loved the flashbacks throughout the book. The epilogue was very beautiful and I loved the resolution of it. Another thing I appreciate is the right amount of Win and Bo (and Gus) since they’re so special and loved by the readers, I was worried they would take a bit over the story, but the author included them just the perfect way. I did feel like the last few chapters dragged a little, maybe tried too hard to add tension to the story but it didn’t really work for me. I knew it would be okay because I know this isn’t that type of story.

shut up. when i woke up this morning to see i got approved for the ARC i knew it would be good but this good?! i couldn’t never prepared myself

this had everything that to me makes a perfect romance book:

•great writing
•all the angst (you will cry)
•characters who are genuine soulmates
•working hard to better a relationship
•nothing is magically healed with one round of sex
•but sex is also hot

caleb is so sweet, dorky, and absolutely devoted to his wife. he’s also human, fucks up and panics when he doesn’t know how to fix it

sarah is so human. she’s lost, trying to find herself, absolutely in love with her husband, still navigating grief 12 years down the line, and desperate to try anything to make sure her marriage survives

i adored the features of Win Bo and August (still my all time favorite HBY) and think their friendship is something so precious in this book too

i loved flashing back to the couple growing up and falling in love with each other coupled with the struggle of the present and the desperate fight to not lose the one they love

i love HBY
i love out of the woods
now i will cry because what am i supposed to do between HBY releases?!

Did I start this book last night and finish it this morning? Yes, yes I did.

I fell in love with Win & Bo in Out on a Limb, and loved their story so much, that I immediately went and read the rest of Hannah’s books. I’ve been waiting for 6+ months for this one and was so excited to receive the ARC.

Sarah and Caleb’s story was perfection, and I want to go back and re-read it for the first time. I laughed. I cried. I felt all the things. It was such a beautiful story of love, loss, and finding yourself.

Do yourself a favor and read this book.

This story was a hopeful take on the aftermath of loss. Sarah is stuck in complacency and a loss of self after losing her mom to ALS. She and her high school sweetheart, Caleb, married when they were 19, and even though he’s always taken care of her, she wonders a decade later if she would have been stronger and done more with her life if he hadn’t always been there to pick up the pieces. In an attempt to reconnect outside of their norm, Sarah has the crazy idea that she and Caleb should attend a couples wilderness retreat, which sounds nice if you’re into the outdoors…but these two couldn’t be less outdoorsy (an attribute with which I greatly relate). I thought this story was so refreshing to jump in on a seasoned relationship, and to watch Sarah and Caleb work to strengthen their relationship. Our side characters were so fun too!

This book follows Out On A Limb (which features Sarah’s best friend/sister), who we get a taste of in OOTW. It can be read standalone (like I did), but now I want to go back and read more about Win, Bo and August! 💕

Out of the Woods is a stunning sequel to the same universe as Out on a Limb! Out of the Woods follows Sarah and her golden retriever husband Caleb to an outdoor retreat to revamp their marriage. This is a story of growing up with your person, but also learning how to continue to grow every day of your life. Sarah and Win have the most wonderful friendship and it was a joy to explore the relationship between Sarah and Caleb with plenty of cameos from everyone else throughout! This book was sweet, had a lot of heart, and asked a lot of interesting questions about finding joy in your life. So good!!!

i SO badly want to rate this five stars, but it just wasn’t a five star book to me. It’s about a marriage in crisis and how they rekindle their love and spark. it didn’t hit me in the same way that Out on a Limb did, but I still loved Sarah and Caleb‘s story. their love was never in danger, but learning how to let love grow and adapt to where they are.

This one wasn’t for me and that’s my bad for auto requesting it based on the author and going in blind. I’m not really into the saving a marriage romance books. I’m rating based on writing style and my usual love for this authors books!

If you enjoy rekindling a romance between a married couple and flashbacks to their younger years then this is right up your alley. I give this book so much credit for showing the ups and downs of marriages - especially if they start young and all the complexities of human emotions.

4 stars - It might not be the book for me but it’s the book for many others.

Sarah and Caleb met as teenagers and have been together since then. Caleb’s from a fancy family but fit right into Sarah’s household’s “poor in money but rich in love” dynamic and was part of the family immediately - through Sarah’s mom’s battle with ALS that defined Sarah’s young adulthood.

Sarah and Caleb got married at 19 mainly so Sarah’s mom could attend before she passed away, which was just a few months later. To have been a caretaker, such an adult role, to now basically being a little girl without her mom, is unsettling to Sarah, and she honestly never really bounces back from that. And at the start of the book, she’s 31, feels she only matters in the context of other people, and resents Caleb for always taking care of her even while knowing he’s an angel for doing so.

They’d never want to split up, but their relationship is at a standstill as it is, and they decide to actively work at repairing the rough patch. NATURALLY Caleb is a little resistant to admitting both parties need some nudging in the beginning but he’s definitely like “we needed this” by the end, with some revelations in between

The complexity but NORMALCY of human emotions is just so prevalent in this story and I think there’s something for everyone to gain from reading it. I luckily still have my mom, but I’ve been with the same person for 10 years and there’s no way we are the same people we were in 2014. Accepting and rolling with the constant change does take work and it’s just nice to see it reflected in a romance - not a meet cute, not a second chance romance, but kind of both at the same time, too.

I haven’t even mentioned the levity of inside-y people spending a week in the woods with a no-sex rule lolll there’s definitely a lot of fun in this book too!! The characterization just means so much to me and all the flashbacks had me cryingggg

Hannah! My goodness, she does it again!

This book has us exploring Sarah and Caleb’s relationship and going along for the ride while they explore their vulnerabilities on an outdoor retreat. We see both Sarah and Caleb realize that essentially they are codependent. That retreat allows, especially Sarah, to dig deep and find the pre-Marcie diagnosis Sarah and how she can be brought back to life after all that life has thrown at her. She also chews out Caleb’s dad at one point and drops a spectacular F-bomb at the end for an unruly author. Really well done, HBY!

Out of the Woods (OOTW) is an interconnected story about two high school sweethearts and their journey to grow back together. I laughed and cried while reading this book, which took me quite by surprise.

OOTW follows Sarah and Caleb as they embark on a journey to find their way back to each other. They have been together since high school and have faced challenges that many people will never face, and at a very young age. I really enjoyed the sections that featured the past, as it helped to understand what was happening in the present. We also get to see two of my favorite characters Win and Bo from Out on a Limb, which is a new favorite of mine. I absolutely love those two and seeing them again brought me joy.

I would highly recommend this story of love found, lost, and found again. I tell a lot of people about Out on a Limb and I intend to tell them to read OOTW as well.

Hannah Bonam-Young is a new "must read" author for me.

Such a good read!! Hannah truly showed the ups and the downs in a relationship and how love is something to fight for. I loved the banter and the friendships formed throughout the story!! I can’t wait to have the physical in my hands.

Oh, how I related to this big in so many ways. Sarah and Caleb have become one of my favorite book couples of all time. This book was written with so much depth and heart. This one pulls on all the heartstrings. I loved the journey to self discovery that both characters discover in themselves as I turned the pages. Don’t be fooled by the playful cover, either. This book is deep and raw, but in the BEST way.
