A great follow-up to Unmasking Autism: Discovering the New Faces of Neurodiversity that I would also recommend more broadly to anyone living outside of heteronormative and neurotypical norms. This has a good mix of reflection questions, exercises, and personal anecdotes. Since the author is a social psychologist/professor and autistic, it also has the right balance of being well-researched but not coming across like a condescending self-help book because it's the author's personal experience too. I can tell that a lot of thought went into the questions/exercises and structure of the book. Everyone's experiences are so different that not everything will apply to every reader, but I think anyone could find something helpful to think through in here.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

As a long-time masked autistic and someone who, ironically, read Devon Price’s previous book thinking of autistic friends rather than myself, I was enthusiastic to read this one with the knowledge I have now. I am someone who's spent years seemingly perfecting the art of acting “neurotypical” & let me tell you, this book gave me a lot to think about.

I had to keep pausing during this book because there was so much to take in and reflect. It seems the author already thought of this & I loved the inclusion of reflections and exercises throughout.

This book is like a workbook for unlearning neurotypical societal conditioning—except way more validating and significantly less condescending than most self-help books. I would recommend this book to anyone, regardless of their neurotype!

Thank you to NetGalley and Rodale Inc. for a digital ARC of this book.

Unmasking For Life is Devon Price’s follow-up to his fantastic 2022 book, Unmasking Autism. I had high hopes and Price did not disappoint.

To call the book “self-help” or “how-to” undercuts its layers, I think, so I’ll call it a guide. Once an autistic person is diagnosed or self-realized, many things in their past might begin to make sense…but what about the future? Price outlines how autistic (and otherwise disabled or neurodivergent people) can live their lives to the fullest, focused on their own wants and needs rather than constantly bending to societal norms.

In addition to the writing itself, appreciate the care that Price put into the structure of the book. He lays out information in digestible sections, complete with tables and short questionnaires, making the book easy to pick up and put down.

As per usual, Price leads with compassion while nailing down hard truths. I look forward to purchasing this book for my shelf so I may refer to it in future.

Unmasking for Life by Dr. Devon Price is a must read for anyone who loves/is a late diagnosed autistic. I wish I would have had this when I received my adult diagnosis years ago. This would have made me feel so much more comfortable and unashamed about my diagnosis. I will read anything by Dr. Price!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book !

As a late diagnosed autistic adult, Dr. Price's book Unmasking Autism was a massive eye opener for me. It made me feel validated and no longer alone in my struggles. When I saw he wrote another book about Autism, I knew this one had also come at a great time for me.

This book is filled with so many helpful guides on how to live a successful life without sacrificing your own well-being. I would highly recommend this to someone who has been diagnosed recently or self realized. I truly think this will massively change my life for the better going forward, and when the book officially releases, I can't wait to get a physical copy for my bookshelf to reference when I need it.

Thank you to Netgalley as always for the ARC!

I have ASD and ADHD as well as Childhood Complex Trauma-PTSD I was badly affected emotionally and mentally by reading this book. I endeavor re-reading this book when I am halfway through my therapy

This book was so incredibly educational and provides such wonderful guides on how to set boundaries with others, be a great advocate for yourself, and to be unapologetically YOU- regardless of who is uncomfortable with your neurodivergence. Imagine a world where neurotypicals had to conform to neurodivergents, rather than the other way around, and aren’t treated as broken and needing fixing. It would sure be a gentler, kinder, more understand place- which Devon also speaks about. Maybe it NEEDS to become the other way around.

The validation, confidence, and empowerment Devon’s words hold is incredible. I loved how inclusive this book was to not only neurodiversity in general, but his emphasis on representing minority groups- making sure all are acknowledged equally regardless of their race and ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, religious beliefs or lack thereof, and more.

This book felt like a very safe place to learn more about my Autism as a recent and late-diagnosed woman 🥰 This ARC came into my life at the perfect time and I am excited to begin my journey of unmasking 🙌🏼 I recommend to neurodivergents and neurotypicals alike.

This was a great follow up to Unmasking Autism. It had a lot of practical advice and workbooks. I enjoyed the structure and the chapter topics. The anecdotes peppered in throughout help to make it relatable.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Devon Price says autistic people have never been handed "the handbook for a successful life" but that is no longer the case. Unmasking for Life is exactly that, a guide for autistics on how to unmask every aspect of your life to make it the best it can be for you, and how to define what 'success' can mean for a disabled person, in its millions of shapes and forms.

This book took me a long time to read because I kept having to take time to think, to question myself and my life.

You should absolutely read this book regardless of your neurotype. There are so many valuable reframings of societal norms and adulthood expectations, everyone would benefit from following the exercises presented in Unmasking for Life.

This comes out later this month!

Thank you NetGalley and Rodale Inc. | Harmony for the opportunity to read this ARC and thank you Devon Price for writing it. The work you've been doing for autistic people is truly invaluable, thank you thank you.

I wish my younger self had been able to read this book, it would have saved a lot of pain. I'm so glad it's available now. Devon Price is writing for autistic adults who may be wondering what life looks like as a fully unmasked person in a world very much not designed for neurodivergence. Anyone who is autistic will find something of use in this guide, no matter how long it's been since you were diagnosed. I highly recommend taking the time to write out answers to the questionnaires included in the text. There's something about putting words on the page that, for me at least, can help your brain find new insights into itself.

I ended up having a hell of a fortuitous timing in getting this when I did, as I ended up seeing that this was available I believe the day after I finally got an adult diagnosis. I've been reading Dr. Price's books in parallel over the last few weeks, and this is a fantastic book just by itself, but also as a companion to Unmasking Autism. This focuses on living a more integrated and nonconforming life, and accepting parts of yourself that you camoflaged and suppressed to be able to get by. I feel a lot more confident now as I start to move forward in my own unmasking process, and is helping me figure out how best to align my life. Highly recommended, especially for the newly diagnosed.

I really loved the book Unmasking Autism and this is such a great book too. As the mom of a young adult daughter on the spectrum, I found this book a fabulous resource. Would definitely recommend to others.

Devon Price’s UNMASKING AUTISM is a revelatory work detailing how generations of people concealed their autism to appear neurotypical, combining history, memoir, and case studies. This follow-up covers some of the same terrain in more of a self-help mode and consequently doesn’t land with the same impact as its groundbreaking predecessor. Still, the book’s thoroughness is impressive. Price again speaks to an inclusive range of autistic people and draws meaningfully from his own experience as he explores ways that autistic people who have chosen to live as their authentic selves can make progress and find community. Each section is dedicated to a topic like love and sex, friendship, and legacy, and includes worksheets to help focus the reader’s responses. A useful guide that would prove even more effective if read in conjunction with Price’s previous book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Rodale, Inc./Harmony for the eARC!

This was a really helpful book. Whether you've officially been officially or self-diagnosed as autistic, know someone who has, or just want to know more about autism, you'll find this book helpful.
For me, the first chapter was the most helpful, but part of that is because I'm not ready to make the changes discussed in some of the other chapters. I appreciated how thorough Price was in providing ideas, questions for reflection, additional resources, and even scripts for how to start conversations.

This book will give you a ton to think about, but you don't have to do everything all at once. Price is great at reminding readers to start small and work up to larger changes.
This is DEFINITELY a book I'll be returning to again and again. And I know I'll get something form it every time I do!

In the follow up to the outstanding Unmasking Autism, Dr Devon Price provides an accessible framework for considering, and hopefully undertaking, the seemingly mammoth task of unmasking the self in several areas of life. Dr Price combines personal anecdotes, broad exercises and specific examples that help guide you through the muddiness of a masked existence. While not everything was relevant for me personally, I appreciate the thoroughness that went into this text and I can see how any reader could gain insight and benefits from it. Plus, as in Unmasking Autism, the parts that hit, hit HARD. I am so grateful that Dr Price has again shared his insight and wisdom.with us. What he has done for the community cannot be overstated.

Price's latest installment in an immensely helpful body of work is another work of healing genius. Unmasking for Life covers many topics that are not only familiar to autistic people, but that prove the most difficult. I have what used to be called Asperger's and though my experiences may be different from others because of how I experience autism, I still found this book to be applicable to a wide variety of those of us across the spectrum. Price's book humanizes us in ways that say "I see you, and I not only know what it's like but here's how we could thrive". It's truly a relief to read liberation in its pages. It can be tough to give ourselves permission, where autistic people have needed to (and in many ways, as Price writes) look outside of ourselves to understand what we need to do/how we need to be in order to be acceptable to the world around us. After sufficient feedback that what makes you autistic is wrong, or unhelpful, books like Price's restore a lot of light to the soul.

Where some might seek comfort or guidance from a book on codependency, self-esteem, social skills, stress tolerance, PTSD, or ADHD, and how to do relationships with autism, Price writes a comprehensive guide. It speaks to the power of autistic people getting help from someone who is also autistic, because what looks like a lot of things needing to be addressed have one cause: trying to be autistic in an allistic world. Thankfully, we have books like Price's to better know ourselves, and learn how to let others in on what a gift we are, too.

Dr. Devon Price never misses. I really do think he is so fantastically intelligent, and I respect all of the work he has put out into the world. His book "Unmasking Autism" has made a huge impact in the autistic community (for the good) and this book will continue to expand how autistic and neurodivergent people are able to be their authentic selves in this neurotypical world. I would recommend this book to everyone, autistic / neurodivergent or not, because I believe we all have something to learn when it comes to giving up on societal norms!

Dr. Price does it again. Another amazing book that helps all autists and their families. Not only does Dr. Price give a simple to understand explanation of unmasking, why we mask and why we need to be unmasking in all areas of our lives., they also give easy to understand instructions on how to unmask. Even if you want to unmask in one area in your life, the way the book is written will allows this too.
