Raw, powerful, and absolutely gutting. Set during school desegregation in 1959 Virginia, it throws you straight into the hostility and violence Black students faced, while also weaving in a forbidden romance between two girls on opposite sides of that divide.
It’s heavy (as it should be), but also tender and human. Talley balances the brutality of history with moments of hope and connection. Not an easy read, but an important one.

I am not going to be reviewing this book, but thank you for the approval.
