Did not read. Have way too many books on my shelf - need to cut back. Hoping to get to it in the future though.

The Makeover offers a dark, obsessive love story wrapped in psychological suspense. James Devery’s fixation on the elegant Mrs. Eastman adds an unsettling edge from the start, and the tension builds as cracks in the Eastmans’ perfect life begin to widen.

While the premise is compelling and the atmosphere suitably eerie, the pacing drags in places and some character decisions stretch believability. The payoff is dark and dramatic, but not entirely surprising.

A decent read for fans of slow-burning thrillers with a touch of danger and desire—though it doesn’t quite reach its full chilling potential.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this early :)

I wanted to like this book so much... but I just couldn't... the dialogue between characters was uncomfortable and lacked fluidity. The characters slowly become unbelievable and made up without personality - I didn't have anyone to root for or feel bad for...I was just mad reading it. The action moved at a fast pace, and I was able to get through it without it feeling dragging, and I needed to find out how this mess of characters relate to each other. The multiple POVs and points in time did help to keep it interesting for sure and provide a good understanding of what was going on, and what was about to happen.

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for providing me with a copy for an honest review.

This is a mystery that didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The story follows a man named Jake who is involved in a mysterious case while trying to change his life. While the plot has an interesting premise, I found it hard to connect with the characters, and the mystery didn’t feel as suspenseful as I expected. The twists didn’t quite surprise me, and I didn’t find myself as engaged in the story. It’s not a bad book, but it wasn’t for me.

The first half was mildly interesting but the further along the story got, the more convoluted and confusing it got. None of the characters really felt any different than each other and occasionally it was hard to remember who was who. By the time I got to the last 30% I felt like I had no idea what was going on and there was a lot of information just being shoved at me in an attempt to have a twist ending and to finish the story. It exhausted me to try and figure out who was who and what was going on and I honestly wouldn't recommend this one. I put it down quite a few times and found it difficult to pick back up and when I did, I had to remind myself what was even happening each time. It wasn't absolutely terrible but there are much better thrillers on the market at the moment to read instead of slogging through this one.

What a ride! This book was a fun, fast paced read that made me want to keep turning the pages. There were quite a few twists and the writing was so smooth and fast, but yet meaty enough to build a good story on. I feel that the plot was solid and yes, the characters weren’t very likeable, but maybe they weren’t supposed to be.
If you are looking for a fun thriller that just tells a good story, includes some twists and turns, and isn’t bogged down by literary style, this is your book!

This is the first time I have read anything from this author, and I enjoyed it. This book was a classic mystery with family secrets. It was interesting and well written, but I will admit that I was hoping for more. I look forward to more from this author.

It took me a while to adjust to the writing style, despite enjoying the dual timeline and multiple POVs. I’m not sure what it was, but I needed some time to settle in.

The characters were a bit hit or miss for me. I couldn’t stand the husband, Richard, as he made me feel uneasy and untrusting. James also made me uncomfortable at first with his obsession, but as the story progressed, the characters’ development worked well.

Once I got into it, I raced through the book. It was full of secrets, lies, and twists, and even after things were revealed, there was still one final twist to process!

James Devery has fallen in love with his boss’s wife, the glamorous Mrs. Eastman. He dreams about her. He writes about her. He wants to be with her forever.

But that won’t be easy. Because James is just a young builder’s apprentice, hired to work on the Eastmans’ enormous mansion.

On the surface, it seems James doesn’t stand a chance. And yet… he suspects Mrs. Eastman isn’t entirely happy with her handsome, successful husband. The cracks in their marriage are starting to show, and James is determined to make the most of them.

Because he has a dark secret. A secret that means he can’t give Mrs. Eastman up, he absolutely must have her. And he’ll do anything – anything at all - to be with her.

What he doesn’t realise is his single-minded obsession will fuel a spiral of lust and treachery, taking all three to a hell beyond their wildest imaginings.
Loved it

Overall this was a good book. Does have some suspense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. With that being said it is just another love triangle gone awry. I am ready for a psychological thriller that does not involve a "perfect couple" with someone who wants to insert themselves into the relationship with a "twist" I would give this book 3.5 stars it was good and was well written just over the theme.

A good old fashioned mystery. Family secrets, lovers to enemies, etc, etc. There's some good stuff here.

This fast paced thriller starts off when the FMCs rich husband moves her to rural Montana after his mother’s death. His estranged younger sister is already living on the property while he has the main house remodeled for his wife and himself. There are twists and turns in every chapter. There’s definitely something for everyone in this story. Stalker. Murder. Doomed marriage. Money. Greed. Family drama. I truly enjoyed this book, I did, however, guess the ending. This book had a good grip on me the entire time.

Wow! I really enjoyed the book! Plots with twists and turns that I didn't see coming! Richard is cunning but he really underestimates Virginia. So does Gillian. But the book ends where it shows never be complacent. Always watch your back. You never know who or what is hiding in plain sight.

I couldn't find any other listings on Goodreads for Mcgregor, is this a debut?

The Makeover is a pacey thriller that's told from multiple POV. Unreliable narrators, an unexpected sister and hidden agendas lead the way with Mcgregor taking us on a twisty roller-coaster ride woven with secrets, lies and retribution.

Just when you think it's all over and your heart can stop racing there's one final twist at the end, one final twist that I did not see coming!

A gripping plot, great characters and an enjoyable suspense fuelled read.

This is...definitely a book.

The author tries to do a twisty thing that ends up being a really obvious from the go thing. I appreciated the try, though.

Our characters are very unbelievable and there's really no one to root for.

Main character is a door mat, though I think door mats may have more personality.

Unfortunately, this just didn't work for me.
