Light and frothy. The ending reminded me of the Singing in the Rain ending. Suspend belief and settle in for a behind the scenes look at publishing with a whisper of romance. It fits the bill for a beach or cruise read.

2.75-3 stars.
Look okay - it was fine. Nothing spectacular, but cute, fun and short. Oh so short. Literally when I telly you the PDF was 304 pages with big ish text.
Was it The Perfect Rom-Com? No. Far from it.
But it was cute.
The problems I have with it:
-Timing - we skipped the 2 years in which the characters go from hating each other to best friends, basically the entire relationship buildup. It went from hate, to friends, to dating. With no detail about the hate to friends except in tiny flashbacks.
-The ending - you can't tell me that nobody would be suing at the end of this. Read and you'll find out but genuinely the plot holes were massive. It was genuinely kind of distracting tbh
-The characters felt a bit empty in places.

Recommend if you're looking for a short fun book to not obsess over but kind of a palette cleanser yk.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an arc.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Melissa Ferguson has outdone herself on this one. This book is heartwarming, thoughtful, and absolutely delightful to read. This is a romance book with amazing characters- with depth! You will care and root for each and every person (except Amelia, for obvious reasons.) In a world of romcoms, it is hard to be original, but this book has done it. 5/5 stars. Honestly, the best book yet from Melissa Ferguson.

Can’t recommend this enough!

I enjoyed it, but not my favorite. A very cozy read that is easy to follow if you’re looking for a light read. Could’ve used some more excitement and a little less predictability, but overall well written and entertaining.
The banter between characters was written well. I didn’t expect Jack to have the ability to be charming but he did and did it well! Bryony’s character development was wonderful and I’m so glad she found herself in the end.

I have to say I enjoyed the book, especially the banter which is witty and funny. According to me romance is really a subplot in the story and it is more about Byrony's journey of learning to standing up for herself. I did not like the male lead (Jack) as such, he is mysterious and at times manipulative however affectionate towards Byrony.

I do love bookish books and I’m really thankful for this opportunity to read this one… but it felt like a mix of every bookish romances already existing.
Maybe it wasn’t the right time for me to read it?
I’ll give it another try before its release to see if I changed my mind.

“I received a complementary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own” thank you to NetGalley as well.

I don’t even have a review. I didnt really like this book.. plus half way in and Jack is was really getting me upset.. and what is even happening because I don’t understand at all.. I’m confused with these chapters and the 2 year time jump???? I guess this one was not a win for me.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for the chance to read this book early in exchange for an honest review!

This book was very...bland. I wasn't particularly invested in Bryony's arc - mainly because it felt like all the development this character would have would be in the prologue - and I wasn't given enough reasons to think Jack was a good enough MMC for me to care whether they stayed together or not. And, to be fair, it didn't even feel like I was supposed to care. They kinda just fell into a relationship where Jack informs Bryony he had been dating her for years, even if she was dating someone else (I do understand where he was coming from, but it just sounded odd to me) and we are told Bryony is suddenly in love with this man and we are given absolutely no romantic scenes, no angsty reveal, nothing to actually remind us that we are, in fact, reading a rom-com.

At this point, I was so uninterested in this book that the whole 3rd act breakup and following reconciliation did absolutely nothing for me.

I'll start with the positives - this book has a lovely cover, and I think the plot of the story sounds excellent and like a lot of fun. There are a lot of words and a lot of witty banter - attempts? - in this book too. I so, so wanted to like it. I really tried, starting and stopping this book at least 5 times over the course of the past few months. But...something about the writing pacing - for a book that is about a writer who is wayyy to prolific with her words, so is the start of this book. I constantly felt like the rhythm was off, she was describing things that didn't actually make the picture come to life or was just word vomiting descriptions in a fast-paced matter that also came at not a rhythm? It felt like I sometimes couldn't even follow what was going on, and that ruined my mental image and the romance for me. For example, when Jack first talks to Bryony and asks her to ghostwrite- a flurry of a scene that I kept having to go back and reread parts to make sure I was following, and I just couldn't...picture anything despite all the words!

I can definitely see how another person would love this book, absolutely. I think for whatever reason, the writing style just didn't mesh with my brain and my internal voice.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC, and I do so appreciate the chance to read this book that I was looking forward to!

"The Perfect Rom-Com" by Melissa Ferguson will be out February 11!! I know that's a long ways to wait but I just had to go ahead and post it so you can all mark your calendars

This book was so good!! The romance between Bryony and Jack was so sweet! I loved their friendship and banter, but I think what I loved most of all was Bryony following her dreams and not givingup!

This also gives some insight on how tough it must be to be an author and believe in your story when no one else seems too. So thankful for all of the authors who never give up and give us these amazing stories to read!

I loved this book so much!!

Thank you @ourcozyfarmhouselife @tzfiction and @thomasnelson for sending me this physical copy!! And thank you netgalley for the digital ARC! I'm sure this is one I will read over and over!!

3.5 ⭐️

This was such a fun read! I really enjoyed the publishing side of this book. It was so interesting to get to see all of the politics and conversations that go into it.

My absolute favorite thing — the BANTER. I was laughing out loud and kicking my feet the entirety of this one! I just love the sass and jokes.

My biggest overall thing with this book was that the whole plot could have been solved with one conversation… I am not a miscommunication trope lover haha

I loved the side characters and I would have loved to see even more of them!

The ending was so fun and unique but I would be a liar if I said I didn’t have questions about the logistics and holes here!

Overall this read was super quick and I recommend it to anyone looking for something fun and light hearted!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

This book started sloooow. I wasn't super invested or interested in Bryony walking into a publishing conference and it took me a couple of tries to get into the story. Bryony is mostly likeable but I found her a little naïve and annoying at times. The story arc around her realizing her first book needed work was satisfying.

I'm going to be honest, the name Bryony sends shivers down my spine. Regardless, The Perfect Rom-Com was a delightful, easy read that I couldn't put down.

*The Perfect Rom Com* by Melissa Ferguson is a fun and heartwarming story filled with humor and sweet romance. The main characters are likable, and their relationship feels real, with plenty of cute and funny moments. The book follows a familiar rom-com path, but it’s written in a way that keeps you smiling throughout. The side characters add a lot of charm, and the humor makes the story light and enjoyable. While some parts are predictable, it’s still a great feel-good read for anyone who loves romantic comedies.

3.5 stars = this was an engaging book and i liked the main characters, as well as the sister. Enjoyed the bridge and the publishing and the banter of friendship between Jack and Bryony (how do you pronounce that? and doesn't feel like she'd have a sister Gloria). Amelia and her awfulness was amusing

Wanting a sweet romance filled with heart? Check out THE PERFECT ROM-COM by Melissa Ferguson!

This book kept me engaged until the very end with a plot that was so much more than just romance. It's filled with heart - and family, and community and opportunity.

The chemistry between Bryony and Jack was spot on from the start - their connection and friendship really popped off the page. I would have loved a bit more depth to Jack but this still didn't detract from what was a lovely read

Thanks to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for the ARC! Opinions are my own

An interesting story about ghostwriting and authors which gives you a new perspective of writing and publishing. I loved the characters with their unique backgrounds and personalities- gave the book a much needed dynamic and pushed the story to be believable.

Glad I read it but not my favorite writing style. A unique and different type for those who love more of the comedic style of a RomCom where I love the details of romance and more for the love story parts.

Thank you NetGalley for the advance reading opportunity!

I kept putting this off because I knew once I started I wouldn’t be able to quit. And boy was I right!
This book….these characters….its perfect! There were bits that made me think of Singing in the Rain, bits that felt like…well I can’t even think of a romcom villain as off putting as Amelia.
If you enjoy romances, closed door, a peek into the publishing world, and warm fuzzy happy feelings-read this immediately!
