A great feel good story even for readers who don’t like cats or animals. The characters are diverse, interesting and likable and the story is told from each of their perspectives brought together by Cat, a stray that lives in an alley. It was nice to also have Cat’s POV which I guess added a little magical realism. The chapters are short and switch between characters and everything turns out positive for everyone by the end of the book.
This is surely a lighthearted story that can give readers a “break” from heavier topics in lots of other popular genres. I found it to be quick and enjoyable. The characters are quirky and likable and not developed as well as I usually like but going into each of their backgrounds more would have made the book too long. The writing is fairly simple and the characters and setting somewhat unrealistic but so what - this is feel good fiction! I’m glad I read this one!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are my own.

Cat’s People tells the story of various people brought together through their connections to a stray cat. I absolutely adored this book. A fantastic idea and even better execution, it was enjoyable and heartwarming in equal measure. Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Tanya Guerrero, Delacorte Press, and NetGalley for the gifted copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is a heartwarming tale about a cat. Yes, a cat. But y’all it is a pretty good read. This stray cat has quite a few people that take care of him on the streets of Brooklyn. Each one of his caretakers have issues. But, they are good people and this cat brings it out in them. Enjoyable tale.

As much as this is supposed to be a feel good book about the curative power of relationships between people and how animals can help, it really reads like it was written by someone who doesn't like people or cats. It's somehow saccharine and mean at the same time, which is almost impressive, but it does not make for pleasant reading.

I loved how the story was from so many perspectives including a cat. It brought different people together and showed how they were a family and the cat was the center of their world.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I liked this book a lot. All of the characters were so delightful and I am a sucker for an animal narrator. I’m giving it 4 stars only because the veganism was mentioned way way too much and I didn’t need a huge list of food every time food was mentioned. It got to be pretty annoying.

Very sweet, easy and cozy read. I have never read a book that included both human POVs along with their cat's POV. It was such a creative way of telling this story. I enjoyed following each character’s story and finding out how all the characters are intertwined. It was cool to get to know the characters from the cat’s POV and then figuring out who was who by the cat's description once we knew all the characters. Each character had a unique story to tell, and we got to follow their journey in love, heartbreak, self-discovery, etc. All around a great read.

3.5 stars.
a stray black cat connects 5 strangers in a Brooklyn neighborhood. the writing was pretty simple and what stood out to me the most is the cat’s POV. he has a unique way of seeing his surroundings, he even has nicknames for all 5 strangers he frequently meets. it was cute and heartwarming, a relatable slice of life.
though I didn’t particularly fond of this, it’s still quite a nice book IMO. reminded me of She and Her Cat by Makoto Shinkai & Naruki Nagakawa

This was such a great story! I love how the character's lives connected around a stray cat. I also love getting to hear the cat's perspective. That was a nice touch! All of the characters are going through something or are carrying baggage from previous issues, but that cat makes an impact and brings them together. Overall, it was a great story, and I will have to check out more of this author's work.

Usually with an animal-focused book, you get the story through the animal's eyes, or the people. I LOVED that this was both. I also loved that it was about all the people in the neighborhood which made for some really great relationships and intersections. They were only made better by the fact that the cat was sharing what he knew to be true, and then the people's voices built their stories. It was just such a wonderful read - The characters are delightful, and the cat is just so loveable. It was one of those reads that just epitomized feel-good (in a genuine, non-cheesy way) read. It's definitely a read for cat people, but also one that people who love people or just great stories about humans will adore. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the look at this April 2025 release!

This book is about a cat called Cat - and his community - and it's the story we all need.
See, it's really about what brings us together. It's about little cautious steps when we've hurt too much. It's about being generous even when we have so little.
"It was obvious to Cat that this man needed something. What exactly, he wasn't sure. For some strange reason, Cat wanted to find out."
Because we all carry heavy hearts. Because we all feel alone. Because one kind heart matters.
"His abuela had always said that crying was like detoxifying your soul. It was better to let all your sadness out than keep it bottled up inside."
Community matters.
"He needed to be surrounded by people, even though they were people he had just gotten to know. It was Gatito who had somehow connected them."

Cat’s People is a breath of fresh air. As a cat lover, reading the cat’s POV in this story was just plain ole fun.
The character development is what drew me in. Each person struggled with personal issues and had a connection to Cat. As I learned more about each of them, I quickly became invested.
The names Cat gave the human characters had me chuckling, as did his thoughts related to them. I could picture his personality in human form.
This story perfectly combines human and animal emotions, with an ending that brings everyone together.
I found the writing style enjoyable, with the POVs of the cat and several humans. This isn’t a happy-go-lucky story, but it is relatable and charming in a way. It stands out to me as an easy-to-read, emotional and diverse look at life.
💕Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.

Cat lives in Brooklyn and relies on The Rainbow Lady and Cheery Mailman for meals when not hunting mice on the streets. Sad Bodega Man's wife used to feed him before she stopped coming around. Cat is a great observed and fiercely protects his people. And his people, while all strangers, start to talk to one another unknowing that their connection is Cat.
This story is told from different perspectives and entangles each others lives. Such a quick, easy and enjoyable read. Familiar strangers who becomes friends living within the same few blocks in Brooklyn.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

This book was such a comforting read. Being able to read about a street cat’s community of people that cared for him was just so cute. I became invested in the characters and couldn’t wait to see how they intersected.
I was a little apprehensive about the cat’s perspective, it just sounded a little cheesy at first, but it was all written so well that I immediately forgot my apprehension. As the book went one I kept wanting to know more about everyone and actually see them, I want a movie or limited series based on this!

Cat’s People by Tanya Guerrero is an absolute delight that celebrates the beauty in unexpected friendships and the gentle magic that stray cats can weave into our days.
Told through multiple POVs, including Cat’s! This is a cozy, feel-good read perfect for fans of ensemble casts and animal-centered narratives. Guerrero’s writing shines in its portrayal of urban life, found family, and the healing power of small kindnesses.
I was given an advance copy thanks to Netgalley, but life got in the way, and I didn’t dive in until after the official release. Lucky me, though, because I got to experience the audiobook, and it’s such a treat! If audiobooks are your jam, do yourself a favor and listen to this one. Highly recommended for anyone in need of a comfort read with a bit of feline flair.

A tender tale of found family and quiet magic. The warmth in this novel wraps around your heart and is a love letter to community, second chances and to cats. The characters are beautifully rendered and I would love to know them.
Many thanks to Random House and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a cozy read when I needed one. I chose this book as an owner of three cats and self proclaimed cat person. very heartwarming and a good pallet cleanser after reading a horror novel prior

This was just the book I needed. Super cozy and heartwarming. An uplifting story about one cat and the people whose lives he brings together. A small slice of life and how we are connected. It definitely gives a sense of community and hope.

This is not my typical genre of preference but I really really enjoyed it.
First of all im a cat lover through and through, so this being about a cat and how it connected people in realistic, and strange ways made me feel whole.
So Cat, a stray black cat, is being taken care of multiple people but especially Núria, who is single and about to be 40, who feeds him every morning. And to me, through her and Cat is how and why we meet our other characters.
This was really wholesome and a really easy read, but with a lot to say, a lot to transmit. I really encourage anyone to read this story. I really loved it.

Thank you netgalley for the arc of cats people in exchange for my honest review, unfortunately I did not get to read this book prior to the release date so I decided to use one of my audible book credits and listen to it. The narrator did a very good job reading this book. I have a soft spot for books that give voice to an animal I think this was sparked by my love for marcelus the octopus ifykyk, the cat in this book lives on the street and is taken care of and fed by many different characters. I really enjoyed this book. Four stars.
