A feel good, heart warming story of a cat who brings together 5 strangers who are all somewhat lost in their own lives. You will find yourself tearing up and alternately smiling as you read this story.

Like Remarkably Bright Creatures meets Fredrick Bachman, this book is a warm hug about the small ways life connects us all. I enjoyed all the different perspectives, and really loved Cat’s.

One fateful summer and a stray cat brings together the lives of five strangers in New York City in Tanya Guerrero’s Cat’s People.
A stray black cat, called Cat, is a clever and curious feline quick to observe and pointedly stare and meow at those he deems to interact with to help make their lives better and he does just that as he roves through the lives of five strangers and manages to bring them closer together in the process. The five strangers are Núria, a barista who takes care of the neighborhood’s stray cats by feeding them, which includes Cat; Collin, a bestselling author who spends most of his time within his home observing the world beyond, which includes Núria feeding Cat; Bong, a bodega owner grieving the loss of his wife who supplies Núria with paper plates for feedings; Omar, the friendly mailman who talks with Cat as if he’s a person like Núria does; and Lily, a recent high school graduate from Georgia searching for Núria, who happens to be her long-lost half-sister. As Cat crosses their paths and draws them together, their lives intermingle as they each work through their respective personal crises until united by their common desire to care for the sickly feline and they ultimately become a tightly connected, cohesive group.
In an endearing story that intertwines the lives of five strangers through the involvement of a stray cat, whose welfare they all care about, connection is made a key and obvious theme, and, they all, Cat included, find that home is more about the people you surround yourself with rather than the place in which you reside. Conveyed through the perspectives of the six characters, the narrative builds as it rotates between each of them and fills in details from the various points of view of each to add specifics that help explain nuances to behavior or background to provide each character with a full and rich presence that makes it easy to empathize with their struggles and situations. While some moments feel a bit over the top and unbelievable, there’s narration from a cat, so the bar for reality is shifted and the tone is generally lighter with the story as a whole coming off as cute and cozy.
Overall, I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

As a proud single cat lady, this book was beyond perfect. Even if you aren’t a cat lover, this book tugs at your heartstrings and is a refreshing take. Told from a stray neighborhood black cat, affectionately known by his 5 caretakers as ‘Cat’ you are shown how 5 different characters from all walks of life come together in New York to help take care of the neighborhood stray cat. This was the perfect heartfelt, short read on a gloomy day, cuddled with your furry family members.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this ARC.

I am definitely a cat lady so when I saw the title, I knew I had to read this. How much of a cat lady am I? I read this entire book while getting a tattoo of my most recently departed cat. I was hooked from the first page with Cat's perspective. The character development for Cat and for Cat's people was excellent, especially for a relatively short book. How the characters were intertwined and how they came together was really sweet but also fairly believable for a work of fiction. I also really enjoyed how people were finding their way. They were imperfect characters and that made them much more enjoyable. The inner monologue of Cat was exactly how I imagine a cat would think and talk to themselves. Super cute book!

I adored the cast of characters in Cat's People. This book was entertaining and well written. I loved Tanya's writing style. I'm a dog person but after reading this story I have become a 'cat' one too! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Cat's People is a really heartwarming read about a group of people who come together and bond over caring for a stray cat, whom they simply call Cat. I enjoyed watching the characters interact with Cat and with one another. I was happy to see Nuria and Lily bond as sisters. However, I thought the romance between Collin and Nuria was not super believable, because he instantly developed feelings for her, and spent most of the book spying on her at her job without revealing who he was. And then when she did find out his identity, she just instantly reciprocated his feelings. It was easily the weakest part of the book for me. But I would still recommend this to anyone who loves cats, because Cat is so good at protecting his people and helping to push them together.

This story is told from a cat's point of view. a black cat brings five strangers together in new York city one summer. you don't have to be a cat person to like the story.

You do not have to be a cat person to enjoy this story.
Told from the cat’s point of view as well as some of the characters. A group of five very different people are all connected by a black cat that lives on the street in NYC. Nuria feeds multiple strays daily on a set route. Collin, an author who is stuck, sees her out his office window and is intrigued. Omar delivers the mail on this route and takes the cat with him on some of his rounds. And Bong, who is a widow and still reeling from his grief, feeds the cat treats. Lily, a recent NYC occupant, is here to find her half-sister that she only recently learned about. When the cat becomes ill, all five react and make connections they didn’t know they needed.

4.5 stars that I'm rounding up because part of this story is narrated by a cat, named Cat!! Need I say more? This was so charming, heartwarming, and truly a feel good breath of fresh air. Cat brings together 5 people in the neighborhood and their stories are told through them and Cat. My heart is still happy long after I finished reading this. Anyone who loves cats...I am sure you will love this.

Awww. How adorable is this? The book is narrated by an alley cat and an aged one at that. His name, of course, is Cat. It's a lightweight little tale, but adorable. You will meet Nuria, a barista from the Philippines (who does cat rescues), Connor, a shy best-selling author, a bodega owner and a cheery mailman. There are also several minor characters like Lily, a checkout clerk, a sweet old lady who bakes and a mean chihuahua named Sinatra.
Guerero, a children's book author, tends to write simply and sweetly. If you need a break from politics, this sweet, little book will be just the thing.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the chance to read an ARC copy of this book.

Absolutely fantastic! Any cat lover will devour this book. If you've ever taken in a stray or cared for a feral, it will tug at your heartstrings. I love these diverse characters and felt fully invested in their story. I'm still thinking about the beloved Cat!

Warm, cozy, and comforting! That’s exactly how I’d describe Cat’s People—a heartwarming gem about one stray kitty who brings five strangers together in the heart of Brooklyn. The best part? The cat is one of the narrators! I found myself looking at my two rescue cats with new eyes after reading this. Packed with romance, friendship, found family, and fresh beginnings, this book is a delight.

This was a different read for me , but nevertheless I enjoyed. It was nice and the story was entertaining and enjoyable. Definitely would recommend!!!

I loved this book. I loved everything about it. I laughed, I cried, I told my friends about it. I love the cover. It wasn't a book I would normally gravitate towards except for the cover. I was invited to read it and couldn't resist. If you are looking for a heart warming story, give this a go.

I am a confirmed cat lover so this book really appealed to me. A rather charming and heartwarming story for all pet lovers.

I was invited by the publisher to review this book. Nuria is a barista and volunteers with a group to take care of stray cats. One day, Nuria dicovers secret notes left for her from an admirer. Cat, one of those stray cats, knows the identity of this person, naturally. There are a few options of who it could be: Collin, Lily, Omar, or Bong, all people in the neighborhood in need of something particular. One day, Cat becomes ill, and all five of these people find themselves caring for their beloved stray. But then, Cat's illness also brings these people together.
I loved how Cat brought all of these people together, weaving together a sort of found family. I loved Cat, for being a cat (and Cat's perspective, which was so much fun!). I loved how real all of the characters seemed. I felt the author did a great job of creating relatable characters, and also bringing real emotion to the pages.

I absolutely loved this story! It is basically about a stray cat that was smart, clever and actually caring!
Never underestimate the power of a cat or any animal if you truly open your heart!
This is the journey of this Cat and five humans that ultimately become friends because of Cat.
If you need a feel good, interesting book, them this is for you!
Thank you to @NetGalley and to @Random House Publishing-Ballantine for this ARC and allowing me to read and provide my own review. It is so good!

A sweet story of a cat living on the street who brings together five people living and working in a Brooklyn neighborhood. A light, feelgood book for cat lovers. Although the writing was uneven with a few to many references to current culture, the premise is lovely and the book was enjoyable.
Thanks to Penguin/Random House and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book.

Heartwarming and cozy are the two best descriptors I can think of for CAT’S PEOPLE, which weaves together the stories of five unrelated, lonely humans who all cross paths with a clever stray black cat in Brooklyn.
One of my favorite movies when I was growing up was That Darn Cat, with Hayley Mills. I adored that the cat, DC, was the integral character in the story, and CAT’S PEOPLE is similar.
This is a simply written book that’s easy to read with short, easily digested chapters from alternating points of view. Although I found the plot to be a bit predictable in parts, I did enjoy the concept and wondered if Núria, Collin, Lily, Omar and Bong were going to meet and interact. My favorite chapters are those from Cat’s point of view.
The book touches on themes of grief, moving on, confidence, found family and more. A cute read that I’d recommend for anyone who likes happy endings, but especially cat lovers.
