Such a wonderful read! I will fully admit I requested this one based solely off of the cat on the cover, but I'm so glad I did. It's a beautiful book!

Cat is a lovable stray who lives on the streets in NYC. In this sweet story you meet 5 people who come together in some unexpected ways. Cat is living his best life, and everyone wants to take care of him. But really, he is doing more for each of them than he could know.

The style of writing was a bit unusual for me, but I think that cat lovers will enjoy it. In this book there are chapters from Cat’s point of view which was a fun addition to the story. 3.5/5 stars
*Contains a moderate amount of profanity which felt jarring given the style of the story.

This looked like a sweet book so I grabbed it without reading the blurb. I had no idea that we would have the cat's POV and at first I was iffy about how I felt about the story. Felt middle grade-ish (which I don't necessarily dislike btw), but then some larger themes made there way into the story and I was hooked. Can one black cat bring people together? How much can they really understand what is going on around their worlds, their neighborhood. One stray (with several nicknames) seems to have the power to understand people and bring change into their lives in a positive way. Several POV's are included and themes such as loss, grief, pain, love and so much more are woven throughout the story. Be the change you want to see in the world seems to be Cat's motive and he certainly brought a smile to my face.

An adorable book that brings people together. It's a novel of found family and love and friendship. A stray cat bands together 5 strangers that didn't really know how lonely their lives were until they found each other through Cat. Cat lovers will love this and Cat's insights are adorably perceptive. I'm so glad that this novel was recommended to me.

This is a heart warming story about a stray cat and the 5 strangers he is surrounded by. Each character has their own challenges. I enjoyed the nicknames cat gave all of his human friends that feed him as well as how the characters return kindness to cat. The chapters alternate POV with cat and the 5 strangers. Overall this is an easy, cozy read.

As someone who has loved cats but from far away because of allergies, this book was charming and also believe it or not, informative. I loved Nuria’s character and felt a little like I understood why she was who she was. Also, reading from Cat’s perspective? Brilliant! I didnt think I was going to enjoy this book as much as I did and will be recommending to everyone!

A very cute story about the lives of those giving care to strays (one particular stray cat in this case) and how their lives intertwine, and eventually bring them all together. Shed a few tears towards the end, I felt like one of these characters caring for Cat

Thank you Random House, NetGalley and to the author for an ARC of this novel.
I was pleasantly surprised about this book, and absolutely loved the creativity in this. As someone who is not a pet person or cat person, I really loved how one black cat brought so many people together. I loved their stories and meeting the characters. This was a great cozy read, perfect for a fall or rainy day!

A sweet easy reading tale of a cat - Cat- who brings together five different people to make a found family. It's set in Brooklyn and reflects the diversity of the borough, Each of the characters including Cat share their POV. While it's a bit simple, it's also the sort of heart warmer that makes for a good read after a long day. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A nice adult debut for Guerrero.

I am not a cat person by any means.
I’m allergic to them and I’ve always been more of a dog person. However, when this ARC was offered to me, the cover was cute enough to intrigue me.
Honestly, overall, this book was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. It was definitely a cozy and cheesy story, which is not my general type of read, but the cheesiness fit the story so I was ok with it for the most part. However some of the characters’ moments were a little drawn out and I grew tired of some of their internal conflicts.
The five characters that are connected by our protagonist, the cat, are a wonderful mesh of personalities and back stories. I felt like I connected to each one on a different level, and even the cat’s personality was a fun addition. The realness and wholesomeness that filled each chapter is really what got me through to the wonderful wrap up at the end. I feel like I even may have had a tear in my eye at one point. Definitely glad I was open minded and gave this book a shot.
Overall a light read to restore your faith and humanity but the cheesiness was a bit much for me and my liking. But definitely a good break up if you need something light and quick to read.

A story about a black cat bringing together a community?! SIGN ME UP!! This was like reading and experiencing a wholesome tv show. Multiple characters who have their own “issues” but slowly meet one another to help each-other through life…all thanks to a cute little cat named Cat¨̮.
I LOVED experiencing everyone’s story. Tanya writes a diverse set of POV’s from Nuria the stray-lover, to Bong the bodega owner, to Collin the introvert author, to CAT the uh….cat!!! (and more!!) It was just so dang sweet!!! I’m also a sucker for multiple characters that slowly come together one by one!! They were just all wonderful!!! WE LOVE FOUND FAMILY!!!
If you are a cat lover or people lover, this is the perfect book for you!! You get to jump inside the mind of a cat living as a stray as well as the people he meets along the way. It’s sweet. It’s fuzzy. It’s like a little warm hug. After finishing, it’s made me want to squeeze my own little black cat, Buffy, a little tighter!!!
Content warnings: strong language, attempted SA

This book was cozy and warm and lovely. It follows the interconnected lives of 5 people and a cat. I loved how it shows how the characters are connected and how they support each other in this Brooklyn neighborhood. There are also a few chapters that are narrated from the perspective of the cat.
I really just enjoyed this story.

Cat’s People by Tanya Guerrero is a wonderful read. The book reminds us that everyone can make a difference and how one person can change one person’s perspective. The book is written in many different voices including a feral cat.
Tanya Guerrero imagined a world of a feral cat and the people that interact and help care for the cat. The cat (named Cat) is a black cat who has lived on the street for many years. He looks forward to the rainbow lady’s daily visit with food and water. Nuria (the Rainbow Lady) belongs to the Meow-Yorkers, a group in Brooklyn who takes care of the neighborhood’s stray cats. On top of Nuria, Omar the mailman also speaks with Cat and brings him treats. Then there is Bong, the Bodega owner who is grieving his wife’s death, who gives treats to Cat. Collin owns the brownstone where Cat hides. Collin eventually makes a house for Cat to hide in and helps take care of Cat.
However, around the story of Cat are how the people who help Cat start to form friendships. That is the real story, the forming of relationships that change each of the lives of Cat’s helpers. Each will need to reach out to the other, but Cat seems to give them strength to do that.
Cat’s People by Tanya Guerrero makes me feel warm and fuzzy. It makes me feel stronger about how people can connect, even when they seem to be so different. Cat’s People by Tanya Guerrero is a great read.

Cat is the name of a stray cat in a Brooklyn neighborhood. The story is told from several POVs. There is Nuria (a barista who feeds strays), Bong (bodega owner who is grieving his wife), Omar (mailman), Lily (young women looking for her half sister), Collin (author with writer's block) and Cat who gets to share funny thoughts and perceptions. These are all strangers that connect because of Cat. Cat follows the mailman, meeting others on the way. These are all kind people looking to help others but who are also dealing with grief, insecurities and other issues. And of course it comes together in a satisfying way. The writing is straightforward and I wasn’t surprised the author has written Middle Grade novels previously. This is an enjoyable, wholesome, feel good story. (3.5 Stars)

Five strangers. One cat. Brought together by love and heartache.
I absolutely adored this book. It made me laugh and cry and left my heart feeling so, so full. This beautifully woven story follows five strangers—Núria, Collin, Bong, Omar, and Lily—whose lives become unexpectedly intertwined through a stray black cat named Cat. Throughout one fateful summer, chance encounters turn into deep connections, proving that love, family, and friendship can come from the most unexpected places.
I found myself completely invested in each character’s journey. I learned how these five strangers come together in a way they never expected, learning that sometimes, the smallest creatures can have the biggest impact on our lives.
While I wish there had been an epilogue or just a little more to the ending, I still loved that it wrapped up in a hopefully, beautiful way. This story had the same feel as movies like Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve, and I could definitely see it being adapted into a movie! 🐈⬛
This book was heartwarming, charming, and an absolute joy to read. Cat’s People comes out this Tuesday if you like books like this!
And finally - thank you so much to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Delacorte Press for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

The perfect book for cat lovers! Through multiple POV, you follow the lives of 6 people (Rainbow Lady, Cheery Mailman, Sad Bodega Man, Awkward Neighbor Guy, and Bright Pink Person) and a stray cat. It was such a sweet little slice of life novel, low stakes, filled with love and friendship. The chapters are very short, and each voice is unique, so you never get confused while switching POV.

This book completely stole my heart🥹!!
The way a single cat managed to bring people together was nothing short of magical & I was fully invested in every beautifully interconnected moment. As a proud cat mom, one scene hit me so hard that I actually teared up because it was just so special 😭. If you love stories that tug at your heartstrings (especially if you’re a fellow cat lover), this one is an absolute must-read!💖
Thank you for the e-arc @randomhouse & @netgalley!

Heartwarming, charming, and full of feline magic—Cat’s People by Tanya Guerrero is the perfect feel-good read!
Set in Brooklyn, this novel follows Núria, a fiercely independent barista and member of The Meow-Yorkers, a group that cares for the neighborhood’s stray cats. But when she starts finding mysterious Post-It notes near her favorite cat, Cat, she’s thrown into a mystery. Could they be from Collin, the reclusive bestselling author? Lily, a teen searching for family? Omar, the neighborhood mailman in crisis? Or Bong, the grieving bodega owner? As these five strangers come together to care for Cat, they discover that fate—and feline intervention—has a funny way of bringing people together.
If you love found family stories, slow-burn romance, and books that make you smile (and maybe shed a tear!), this one’s for you. The way Tanya Guerrero weaves these characters’ lives together is simply beautiful. And Cat? An absolute scene-stealer!
A HUGE thank you to @randomhouse and @netgalley for the advance copy—I adored this book from start to finish!

Give a book about cat people, to the point that the cat has his own POV in the book. This book was so much fun to read. Given the other characters and their stories which were all so different but somehow they all connect because of this one stray cat, this book was just awesome. Cat lovers UNITE!!!!! Come get this book lol.

This was a cute cozy story about a cat and all the connections surrounding its life.
I’m a sucker for an interweaving story of different people lives and different things that connect them so this was right up my alley.
It was well done and easy to follow. Some storylines interested me more than others but it was fun.
Thanks to netgalley and random house for an eARC.
