I wasn't entirely sold on this one going into it, but in the end, I really enjoyed it. I found the characters to be enjoyable and relatable. I thought that the chemistry amongst the characters was believable and great. It was also fun to read a werewolf story as there's not many of those around anymore. A definite buy for my HS library.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review (even though I'm late at giving it!).

I thoroughly enjoyed All the Hidden Monsters and put in a request for the second one. Both Sage and Oren were great characters. Sage feeling like she has something to prove and Oren being a grump and believing he can do everything on his own. When one of Sage's friends dies, she is insistent that she can be useful in trying to figure out who killed her. As her and Oren realize they are chasing a serial killer, they find themselves going down multiple leads to try and figure out the killer before one of them gets caught in the crosshairs.

The book is similar to many other mystery/find the killer stories, so nothing really unique separates it from other books, but I enjoyed the speed, characters, banter, and plot. The story was engaging enough to read it all in one sitting. I also appreciated the length as I feel like some authors purposely try to drag out books that don't need to be long.

Overall, if you're looking for a quick mystery, this is a great one to add to your collection!

ll the Hidden Monsters is a fun, fast-moving supernatural mystery with a refreshingly down-to-earth heroine at its core. Sage may not be magical or immortal like those around her, but her sharp instincts, stubbornness, and strong moral compass make her easy to root for. The murder of her friend Lucy pulls her into a high-stakes investigation alongside the frustratingly charming warlock Oren Rinallis—and their snarky, opposites-attract partnership is one of the book’s biggest strengths.

The supporting cast is full of quirky and memorable characters, and the worldbuilding hints at something rich and expansive just beneath the surface. There’s a nice balance of humor, heart, and suspense, and while some plot threads could’ve used more room to breathe, the mystery keeps things engaging from start to finish.

Amie Jordan delivers an enjoyable mix of magic, murder, and monster lore with a cast that’s easy to love. A solid pick for fans of urban fantasy with a side of romance, snark, and whodunnit energy.

Creepy little creepers galore. The monsters are unsettling, the pacing is tight, and the vibes are deliciously dark. This scratched that horror itch I didn’t even know I had, while also weaving in some solid emotional threads. I need Book Two like yesterday.

This is a fast-paced, supernatural, and suspenseful story. An interesting murder mystery involving werewolves and other supernatural beings. I was expecting more of a lead up to the case that sends Sage down her journey; but it gets right into into from chapter one. I liked how we learned more about the characters and the world around them as the story progressed. It didn't feel slow at all. I also think the short chapters helped. I do feel a little weird whenever the villain has a monologue to reveal what they did, and how. I understand, as a reader, one may want to know how events came about. But at the same time, I think about the characters standing around listening to the monologue. It's not so bad if they are restricted one way or another, or they are stalling. Great book and interesting characters. I plan on reading the next book!

A perfectly crafted blend of suspense, humor, romance, twists and turns, and magical creatures. One of the best examples of how the balance between pacing and character development can make the reading experience so much more enjoyable.

Can't wait for the second book in the series! My students will devour this one as soon as I get my hands on a physical copy!

In this supernatural mystery, Sage, a werewolf caught between worlds, must solve the murder of an old friend while working with Oren, a detective, without driving each other crazy. For being a mystery/suspense, it was very slow. The Upside/Downside felt like a rip of the Mortal Instruments' Downworld. Sage and Oren felt a bit bland to me. The setting was also hard for me to get a grasp on.
This just wasn't my cup of tea.

Sage goes to check on Lucy, her fellow werewolf friend. She smells blood and finds Lucy has been murdered. She finds Oren, a warlock investigating Lucy’s murder to see if it’s an Upside (human, crime) or Downside (supernatural), one that would fall in his jurisdiction. Though Oren finds something about the crime scene, it is Sage who discovers the supernatural link. Roderick, Oren’s captain in the Arcānum (paranormal police), knows Sage—she’s applied many times, but the Arcānum only hires warlocks. This time he gives her Lucy’s case as a trial, forcing solitary Oren to take her on as a temporary partner. As the investigation continues and the characters interactions show Sage’s survivor guilt motivations and peels back Oren’s prickly layers.

The slow-burn first third of the book introduces the secret supernatural society. The worldbuilding eases the slow pace and Oren’s not-so-pleasant personality until the heroes begin to thaw toward each other. .When the murder mystery plot picks up steam, the narrative tension builds. The solution to the mystery is surprising as how it is “found.” I enjoyed the fun filled relationship that Sage and Oren had in this novel.

This story had a very unique premise, incorporating a slew of paranormal characters with a serial murder mystery. Our MC, Sage, is a strong female who grows more confident from the beginning of the book to the end, and I think her back and forth, give and take, with her grumpy, very reluctant partner in the investigation, has a lot to do with this. I really enjoyed this book. It started out a bit slow but once it picked up, the pacing was great, and I was hooked. The characters were all well fleshed out, unique and likeable, the mystery was engaging, and the world building was phenomenal.

All in all, I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

5/5 stars

Big thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the chance to review this book pre-release. All the Hidden Monsters was a great read full of monsters, romance, so much more. I really enjoyed the premise as well as the execution, but actually would have loved to have seen this in a more adult setting so it would have been more deeply explored! A more formal review will be available on my IG/TikTok and Goodreads for release.

A unique mixture of grumpy sunshine enemies to lovers romance, murder mystery and adventure. The pacing is perfect and the book gets better as it progresses. I adored the mixture of the ever watchful mother-hen figure P, the unafraid to go after her dreams Sage, and the grumpy Oren. Together, with other characters, they form a wonderful found family. This was a concise and engaging story. I’ll be picking up the next book in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Scholastic, and the author for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I haven’t read a paranormal book in YEARS because I generally don’t like them, but this one sounded so good. The paranormal part of it was good, but I unexpectedly didn’t like the mystery. I STRUGGLED to finish this book, it took me way longer than I anticipated and I basically forced myself to read 150 pages in one day just so I could be done with it. It wasn’t bad enough to DNF, but I also did not want to keep reading.

Things I liked:
1. The characters’ backstories. I think that Sage and P’s paranormal origin stories were interesting and provided necessary characterization to them. I never expected [spoiler] to be the cause of P turning into a poltergeist, and finding that out was one of the best scenes in the book.
2. Oren’s character development. This was a classic grumpy/sunshine trope, with the MMC slowly becoming more open to working with others and having friends.

Things I didn’t like (as much):
1. I was confused the entire time. I had a hard time remembering the mystery plot of the werewolf murders, and each time a new connection was found, I couldn’t remember who they were. When the MacAllister (I think that’s his name) part happened, I literally didn’t even know why he mattered or why they thought he would be the next target. I was clueless while reading and that’s a horrible feeling to have in a book.
2. I didn’t care about the characters. The only one I really liked was P, the others just didn’t capture my attention at all.
3. There was a giant info dump done by the antagonist that lasted probably 10-20 pages (I read digitally and didn’t have page numbers). He answered EVERY SINGLE QUESTION that the protagonists asked truthfully and gave the exact reasons for everything?? That’s so unrealistic and I wish it could’ve been shown to us instead of just told. This was probably the scene that made it move down from a 3 to a 2 for me, I really don’t like villain confession scenes.

pretty good mystery which i found a little bit weak near the beginning but captured attention pretty well after that. 4 stars. tysm for the arc.

Very interesting mashup of detective/mystery with monsters. Not sure it totally succeeds as a YA, I think I would have enjoyed it more as an adult novel.

Genre: YA Paranormal, Murder Mystery
POV: 3rd person
Series: Trilogy, Book 1
Relationship: M/F

Darkness Rating: 2/5 🖤
This is a murder mystery so expect triggering scenes.

Spice Rating: 0/5 🫑
Nada. Zero. None. Romance is a subplot.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5 ✨ rounded to 4.
I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel. The story was engaging and captivating, drawing me in from the very beginning. However, the significant age gap between the main characters did initially throw me off. However, I found the relationship between the main character heartwarming and not forced. BUT! I felt that Oren had a stronger connection with a certain side character…... The twist was pleasant surprise. Overall, I would recommend this novel and will eagerly read the sequel.

Well, this book was not what I was expecting, but in a very good way. I was a little reluctant to start this because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it because the FMC was young. However, she may be young in years, but she’s miles ahead in maturity. I do want to say it took a little bit to get into the story because I was afraid I wasn’t going to like Oren. However, I stuck with it, and I just loved the way this all turned out. Not only is there a compelling mystery, but there is lovely character growth with just about all the characters. I really can’t say too much, but I was shocked with the ending, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So much so, I can’t wait for the next in the series! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Paranormal enforcers, of course they are! Wizards, shifters, and a poltergeist tackle a series of murders, while navigating biases and emotions and creating their own pack. Great fun, original and entertaining all the way. Hope to see more!

"All the Hidden Monsters" is a YA mystery written by Amie Jordan. Sage is a werewolf who lives with P, a poltergeist. When Sage finds one of her werewolf friends murdered, she brings valuable evidence to the Arcanum (the supernatural police force, run mostly by warlocks). She wants to work for the Arcanum, but has been turned down in the past for being a werewolf. The force's director assigns her as a temporary partner to one of their most successful/troublesome warlocks: Oren Rinallis. Will they be able to work together to catch what seems to be a werewolf serial killer? Will Sage make it out alive? Great worldbuilding helps engross readers. A recommended purchase for YA collections where supernatural mysteries are popular.
