This is a collection of short stories by Lee Child, the author of the wildly popular Jack Reacher series. However, as other series authors have done, these collected stories expand on the author's talents and don't include their best-known character.
I had mixed feelings about these stories. While they were interesting stories, they didn't really grab me. I was able to predict the "surprise" endings on several of the stories. I usually try to stay in the moment and not guess what's going to happen, but several were very predictable. The characters also seemed really bland and faceless. It was sometimes hard to tell when a story ended and the next one began. And finally, the writing seemed very noir to me. Everyone talked in short sentences. The language seemed like a bunch of goodfellas or gumshoes talking.
For me, having read the quality of Child's Jack Reacher books and going to these, it was definitely a step down. I think that if these were someone's first exposure to Lee Child, they might be OK with them, but I'm not totally positive about that either.
Thank you to HighBridge Audio and NetGalley for an ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This novel is a collection of 20 short stories by Lee Child that I enjoyed listening too while I multitasked. Each mini story was well crafted with good character development for a short story.
The narrator was really good, his articulation and expressiveness really brought the characters to life in these short stories.
Thank you RBMedia and Netgalley for the ALC.

This is a compilation of an assortment of rogue characters that is very enjoyable to read. All the stories are different and often had an ending that went a slightly different direction than I had anticipated. I liked the variety and I would love to see some of these fleshed out into a longer book. Me and Mr. Rafferty is a great example. I had read a couple of these before as Lee Child is an author I seldom pass over, and enjoyed them just as much the second time through.
Eduardo Ballerini does an excellent job of changing his reading style between stories so that all the characters don't end up sounding the same
Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a set of short stories written by one of my favorite authors, Lee Child. Every one is a bit different but yet, they all seem the same.
Some of these tales I enjoyed more than the others. Now, I am not a fan of short stories but this author is the reason I read these. But, towards the end of these stories, I was ready to move on. Like I always say…read it for yourself and form your own opinion.
The narrator, Edoardo Ballerini, did pretty well with all the different situations and voices.
I received this audiobook from the publisher for a honest review.

This is my first read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised! Though I know of the character of Jack Reacher, I have not picked up any of the novels in that particular series and now that I have read Child's work, I am questioning why I haven't reached for his books earlier.
Safe Enough is a collection of short stories - 20 in total - that vary in themes but primarily centre around either investigating a crime or carrying out a crime. I had the opportunity to listen to these stories on audio where they were read by Edoardo Ballerini who was an excellent narrator...his voice and tone were perfect for bringing these stories to life.
I really enjoyed the various perspectives that the author wrote from, and in general I found the stories ranged from average to quite engaging. Though I had my favourites of the 20 short stories, the most enjoyable read of the bunch (to me) is the collection's namesake - Safe Enough - which is about a man who is from the Bronx and moves to the suburbs where things become a bit unhinged. Reading this short story collection was a good reminder that anthologies of this sort are a great addition to the reading experience!
Many thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for supplying me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I appreciate the advance read copy but this one was really not my thing. I like the style but I guess short stories just don't do it for me.

Safe Enough by Lee Childs and narrated by Edoardo Ballerini, Is not only a short story collection from the author but the beginning of the book talks about his starting days and how he came to write short stories which I found very interesting. I was so surprised to learn he wrote Jack reacher back in 1998 as I didn’t read it until 2006 and thought it was new. The book starts with the Bodyguard and it seems every story is better than the last. From Hitman to those who defend the weaker among us those who get their due and those who get away with it, all the stories are interesting and so worth reading. The narrator was great I thought he did accents quite well and although his character distinction isn’t the best he set a great tone for every story. If you love mysteries and thrillers then you definitely love the short story collection. #NetGalley, #HighbridgeAudio, #LeeChild’s, #EdoardoBallerini, #SafeEnough,

These stories are all good., I am not used to reading (or listening to) short stories.
I appreciated that Eduardo Ballerini was the perfect voice for the stories. I was
captured immediately, by this familiar and melodious voice.
These stories. never made me think of Reacher books. That the Author
has the talents to write these excellent short stories comes as no
surprise.. I would welcome future short stories as they are a great
break from the more serious books I read.
My thanks to Mysterious Press, via NetGalley, for the opportunity
to listen to this book for review purposes.

This was a good collection of short stories that were a great break from the Jack Reacher series . This collection of stories does not at all relate to the Reacher series with this different set of characters. I will admit that at times it felt that the characters could have connected to other stories and at times but in the end this was an enjoyable read that I would recommend to others.

A selection of short stories from Lee Child - the author of the Jack Reacher books. I loved the early Jack Reacher novels.
These were all quite dark stories, full of murder and assasins, drug dealers and cops. They seemed well written, and I liked some of the dark humor in a few of them. Like all short story collections, some were better than others, some felt too long and others too short.
On the whole I didn't enjoy them quite as much as I expected, and I am finding it hard to put my finger on why! I read short story collections from other authors reasonably often, so it wasn't the format that I struggled with. Maybe I was secretly hoping for something closer to a Reacher story.
I listened to this book, and I felt the narrator did do it justice. They were easy to listen to, and each story felt distinct.
