Lo has spent most of her life missing her deceased mother and waiting on the vision that will make her like every other woman in her family. Able to tell fortunes and blessed with a vision of their soul mate, the family has a legacy that everyone but Lo has upheld. She's feeling left out and lost when her best friend injures herself and has to back out of their backpacking trip to Italy--a trip Lo's mom took when she was her age. Thankfully her longtime best friend, Teller, reluctantly agrees and the pair sets off just as Lo FINALLY has The Vision. But figuring out what it means proves more complicated than she ever imagines.

Traveling with Teller, Lo begins to re-examine life, her friendship with Teller, and all the choices that have led her to this point in her life. When she meets cute fellow traveler Caleb in an epic meet cute (she saves her from a runaway trolley!) it seems like fate is pointing her in his direction. But if that's true, if they're meant to be, why doesn't it feel easier? And why is she more and more drawn to Teller?

What I love about Amy Lea's books is they're very readable. It only took me a few chapters to get into SOMETHING LIKE FATE and once it had me hooked, I didn't want to put it down. Amy writes these characters that just feel full of life and like people you know or could meet around the corner. I also love how she writes friendship and how believable and fun her dialogue is.

I think what kept this from being a 5-star read was that I didn't get super emotional at any point (usually to get 5 stars from me, a book has to make me cry) and also I was a little frustrated with Lo. Even when it was obvious to me and to her which guy she belonged with, she made choices that briefly kept her from her true HEA and I just wanted to be like, "look at your life and your choices." But in the end, she got the HEA she deserved and that made me close the book with a happy sigh.

I loved the author’s previous books but I had to force myself to finish this. While there were some funny moments, most of the other moments felt forced. I am also a big lover of the friends of lovers trope but here I was disappointed as I felt there were too much of “other woman/man” trope.

First and foremost, I really love this premise! The women in Lo's family have a history of fortune telling, particularly when it comes to finding "The One", but Lo doesn't seem to have any psychic ability. That all changes though - Lo finally has her vision and and then sets off to Italy for the summer with her best friend Teller to travel and find her soulmate. Upon arrival in Italy, Lo meets Caleb and they have a swoon-worthy meet-cute. Caleb must be the soulmate she's supposed to find in Italy, right? Then why is Lo developing less than friendly feelings about Teller?

This story has a lot of things I love: friends to lovers, magical realism, traveling, and conversations about fate and choice. The characters are definitely young, which made aspects of the story difficult to connect to as someone in their 30s, but not surprising due to the intended audience!

I really love Amy Lea's humor. I always find myself laughing out loud at her books, and this one was no exception. I am glad she is continuing to write both adult and YA love stories. We need more from her!

3.5/5 stars! Overall, I liked this romcom by author Amy Lea. At times, however, it felt like two separate books: one a sweet, clean romance and another a spicy romcom. I kind of wish that had been leveled out to match across the story. It still worked as an enjoyable read, but it is no where as successful as her Influencer series, which I loved.

Amy Lea always writes such excellent characters and this is no exception. The trip through Italy was really fun. For me, the characters felt unrealistically younger than they were meant to be, which did impact my enjoyment of the book.

Evokes a little bit of Elena Ferrante with some magical realism. Probably could have used a lot of editing and a little more commitment to the romance aspect!

However, it's not as easy as it seems and Lo needs to decide how much faith she puts in this family trait

This is a cute rom-com with a family twist. The dynamics of Lo's extended family felt very familiar in a good way. The story was a little predictable until the end which caught me by surprise. A good, easy summer read.

I had a hard time reading this book. I'm thinking I was in the wrong head space or this book just wasn't for me. I'm a big fan of the author and loved her other books. This just wasn't my cup of tea.

I had a really great time reading Loren and Teller’s individual journey to love. I particularly loved the Italian setting and all the food talk. It was interesting to watch Loren be so focused on her destiny, without paying attention to what was right in front of her. She had many internal conflicts regarding school, her connection with her mother, as well as with her family traditions. At her young age I can see how these could have prevented her from grasping the obvious. I loved learning all about her friendship with Teller through the years, their patience with each other, and how even though they were complete opposites, somehow they managed to make their friendship work with not much effort. Their emotional connection was there. The love triangle wasn’t my favorite, but it was handled nicely. Overall it was a very cute read.

I love a book that's about the role of fate in love, and Amy Lea delivered in Something Like Fate. Readers just know that Teller and Lo are made for each other, but the will they/won't they tension propels the story forward.

This was enjoyable, but not one I will remember or one that stands out to me. I enjoyed that it took place in Italy and surrounding countries! Magical realism is sometimes a hard sell for me, and this one kinda kissed the mark. Also, there’s a love triangle aspect to it, which isn’t my fav.

I enjoyed this book. The characters were well written and quite realistic, and the plot kept me involved and interested until the very last word. This is the first book I have read from this author, and I will definitely be looking for more.

Something Like Fate follows Lo and her BFF Teller on an unexpected trip together. Cue psychic visions, Italian scenery, misread signals, and it's an entertaining read.

I didn't get quite the same depth as Amy Lea's other books, but the characters are also younger and more naive. It's an escapist read if you're looking to armchair travel.

I have loved all of Amy’s adult romances, and this was the first one I really wanted to love but couldn’t connect with. I blame part of it on the fact that YA/New Age romances aren’t always my jam. While I liked Lo’s character, Teller never felt fully formed and I never got the feeling that HE had feelings for Lo, and Lo’s feelings kind of felt forced for him. I am such a lover of friends to lovers, but this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me. But I will always continue to read Amy’s books because I always love her story ideas.
