Amy Lea doesn't disappoint. This book will pull on the heart strings and give you all the feels. The main character's struggles with her beliefs and what "fate" is are so real and hit home. I love it!!

Something Like Fate is a super cute, friends-to-lovers, young adult romance that I really enjoyed!! I was lucky to get an arc of this and finally read it this past weekend and loved it. Amy Lea never misses, so I’m not surprised that I read this in just a couple of days. This is her second YA romance, but the first one I’ve read from her and I totally recommend!! Lo and Teller are the cutest best friends, and the built-up of their ✨moment✨ was so good. They couldn’t be any more different, but they complement each other so well. I really do overall love a good friends-to-lovers trope, so I was sucked in from the start! I laughed a lot while reading Something Like Fate, but there were moments where I wanted to cry a little too. I don’t want to reveal too much since it’s not out yet, so I’ll just end this with if you’re a fan of YA romance, then be sure to pick up a copy of Something Like Fate next March!

First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Something Like Fate. I loved Amy Lea's Woke Up Like This, so I was very excited to get into Something Like Fate. Unfortunately, this one didn't grab me like Woke Up Like This did.
There is nothing wrong with Something Like Fate, necessarily. However, it felt a bit tedious to get to the payoff that I saw coming as soon as I met Teller. Lo's cuteness combined with Teller's uptight demeanor are a trope as old as time, and Caleb was not compelling enough to be a viable choice for her. I found myself skimming sections to get to the ultimate destination more quickly.
This is not to say that I didn't like the book. It was fine. It wasn't great; it wasn't bad. It was just fine, which means it's one that I will probably forget fairly quickly until someone asks if I've read it and whether I liked it. When that happens and I look at the blurb, my response will be, "Yeah, I read it. I liked her Woke Up Like This better, but if you like this trope, you'll probably enjoy this one!"

Thanks to Netgalley, Amy Lea and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in preview.
But let's go in order: the cover is so beautiful that I want to frame it and hang it.
Gorgeous.
The story has only one POV, Lo's, but in this case we don't lose anything, the story is well written, flows well and keeps you glued to the pages. It is a YA standalone, very similar to her previous story. Lo is nineteen and her family can have visions, they can 'see' true love. She finds herself at a crossroads, traveling in Italy with her best friend Teller (horrible name, sorry not sorry), but meets the one she believes to be her true love, Caleb (I hated him from the 1st
second).
As Italian I really enjoyed the descriptions of the various cities, but let's be serious for a second, who can ever get tired of Italian food? Amy, I'm sorry, but you're wrong here. Lol.
I would also have preferred Teller to have a bit more of a strong hand, I know that the Femal MC is strong and capable of making their own decisions, but I would have preferred to see a bit more of Teller.
What Lo will choose? Head or her instinct?

I love this plot! It was well written and I really enjoyed the read. I love other Amy Lea books so I knew I'd like this one!
Thank you NetGalley and Amy Lea!

This was very sweet. I appreciate the nuances of her family dynamics. And that her aunts characters were developed. It was fun be along for the ride for the traveler lifestyle, especially since this is what I did at the same age.
I enjoy Amy Lea's writing, I really liked her other books I've read.

I was very excited for this book because I had loved the author's previous YA book, Woke Up Like This. I was disappointed, though. This book had an ick factor from the beginning for me: a love triangle. I am used to best-friends-to-lovers (it's actually my favorite trope!), but when you add in the fact that the woman is activly searching for "the one" and then throws her self head-long into a relationship with someone who is supposed to be "the one" while still having feeligns of jealousy/budding love for her best friend, it just came accross icky. I also struggled with the fact that these two were galavanting accross the world as if they are stable 30 year olds yet have the maturity and the ability to communicate at a 16 year old level. This one was just not for me!

Absolutely yes!! Amy Lea does it again.
Teller and Loren have my whole heart. I loved how their friendship blossomed into the beautiful relationship. Their communication and commitment to each other was the icing on the cake. I also loved the psychic ability to find ones soul mate and achieve that.
This book definitely hit the mark and then some. It pulled me out of the biggest book slump and I cannot wait to purchase the physical copy!

This is a very cute rom-com, and I love the friends-to-lovers aspect. It's actually a love triangle book that works for me since it's pretty obvious who the right choice is from the beginning.
The supernatural bit reminds me a bit of the Marissa Tomei/ Robert Downey Jr. film from the 90s, which is one of the first romance movies I remember watching as a kid. Overall, I enjoyed this and think if you like classic romcoms, you'll enjoy reading it.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

SOMETHING LIKE FATE was a quick and charming read from Amy Lea, set mostly in Italy and rich with visuals that paint a vivid scene. The story is told in equal parts humor and tenderness, and it’s easy to relate to and feel for the characters. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as Lea’s Influencers series but it was still an enjoyable read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Skyscape for the opportunity to read and review SOMETHING LIKE FATE.

I used to think that friends to lovers wasn’t the trope for me, but it’s really started to grow on me lately, and this one was so cute! I’ve enjoyed all of Amy Lea’s other books and I flew through this one as well. Lo and Teller were really cute, though it was really hard to pick up on any non-platonic vibes from Teller for most of the book. I also wish the resolution had happened quicker than it did. But overall, a really fun time!

I loved Amy Lea’s “Woke Up Like This,” so I was excited to get the ARC of her next book, “Something Like Fate.” If you like friends to lovers, love triangles, magical realism, new adult romance, and opposites attract, this is a good read for you. It’s a great summer book, as the events of the story take place during a magical summer backpacking trip in Italy. (One might think the author may have even been given a grant from Italy.)
Teller is a sweet MMC, though I didn’t love the way he was treated by his best friend, Lo, during the course of the story. The story leans heavy into the love triangle, and Lo’s relationship with the OM gave me the ick.
I also feel like the book straddles a weird line between YA and adult. The characters are adults, but the writing is very much YA (and closed door). I think it would have been better if the characters were aged down, or if the writing were more fitting of an adult romance.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC! I’m always looking for cute romance books, especially cute YA romance to recommend to my students. While this one was a cute romance, I’d have to be careful what students I recommend it to. First, I really enjoy the character of Lo as I’m a sucker for a confident female, which she is. She’s a confident young woman but a little unsure in love as she doesn’t know if she can follow these visions she has been having, which seem like the female family trait of fated love visions. She feels like she has the perfect meet cute in Italy, but then she wonders if she’s meant to have more with her best friend Teller. Cue some finding of herself and figuring out who she really loves and what she’s looking for in love. The reason I’d have to watch what students I recommend it to is that there is talk of sexual experiences, but it’s actually quite healthy and mature, just a little more than what most MS kids can handle, I think. I actually found Lo and her view of love and “hooking up” refreshing for the most part. I was kind of surprised where the book went at times, but I was pleased with the ending. Overall, it’s a cute story with interesting family dynamic, and the family visions and fate thing wasn’t cheesy and overdone. FYI some profanity (not a ton) and talk of sexual situations

3.5 stars
This book really made me want to be back in Italy, touring around, eating all the amazing food and drinking all the wine. I got serious FOMO and am now craving some soft, juicy mozzarella with sweet tomatoes. Fuuuuuuck. My mouth is watering.
For some reason I liked the FMC, Lo, when she was with the MMC but found her kind of annoying outside of those interactions. It was her back and forth with Teller and all their shared in jokes that made this book funny and enjoyable to read. Maybe because I didn’t like Gabe (was that even his name? I’ve already blocked him out) at all that I didn’t like Lo when she was around him.
It was fun and not that serious. I would recommend if you’re up for a light read where you get to live your Italy travel dreams out through someone else. Or if you’ve read, and enjoyed, Amy’s books previously.
Thanks to #NetGallery and publisher for a copy of this book.

Amy Lea has a new book releasing 3/1/25 called Something Like Fate and I was able to read it early. The story is about Lo who comes from a long line of female psychics. All her elders have the ability to have visions of their soulmates. They find their soulmate and live happily. Lo is one of only two other women in the family who do not have the powers. The other two women that either didn’t have the powers or chose someone who was not their soulmate led miserable and often unlucky lives as a result. Just before Lo’s big trip to Italy, she has a vision of her soulmate and is convinced she will meet him in Italy. Her male best friend Teller says he will accompany her to Italy and help her find her soulmate, but Teller is harboring a secret of his own. On one of their first excursions, Lo nearly gets rundown by a runaway trolley, but a man named Caleb saves her and Lo thinks he’s her soulmate. The only way to find out is to travel Italy together and spend time with each other. This was a nice book. Lea does a great job describing all the places in Italy the characters travel and as a reader, you’re made to feel as though you are right there in the hostels with the characters. Sometimes love triangles can become complicated, but this was written in a great way. Lea made each MMC very likeable so you were rooting for both. Family and familial expectations play a huge role in this book which really helps ground it and build a solid foundation. Lo’s family is very supportive and funny which is good because Lo is not only struggling with her love life, but also her educational and career path. Lo is only 19 but she is written in a very mature way. Overall, this book is highly entertaining and beautiful. It’s a perfect springtime read.

This is the first YA book I've read by Amy Lea! I do have to say I definitely prefer her adult romances more. It was a cute concept, but it felt quite juvenile and maybe that's just not for me anymore. The friends to lovers relationship between Loren and Teller was the highlight and I almost wish we got a bit more of them before the end of the book!

When I saw Amy Lea had a new book coming out, I was so excited. I have loved her other work. But this one was just okay.
Some of the characters in the book have psychic abilities and that sounded so cool. But the execution of it fell flat for me. Lo has a vision that she meets her soulmate while in Italy. Due to certain circumstances she ends up going to Italy with her best friend. Teller instead of Bianca. As you could imagine, feelings start to happen.
Reading about the Italy vibes was well done. But the rest of the novel didn’t hit for me. It was just okay.

This was a cute one! I really liked it and would recommend it to others. I have liked all her books!

I have really enjoyed some of Amy Lea's books so I was excited for this one. I also am a sucker for friends to lovers so this was fun! I did kind of struggle with the reason they wouldn't be together and how she handled things after they revealed feelings. It wasn't my favorite but was fun!

This was a very cute rom-com. You could see the romance brewing but had to watch the sidetracks Lo and Teller go on thru the story. I have loved Amy’s influencer series books and this one felt just as good. The fortune telling history was a sweet twist and kept you connected and guessing.
I loved the Italian setting and also loved when they got sick of Italian food and wanted to try something new. It felt so real!! ;)
This comes out next year March 1st and I can’t wait to reread it then!
