This book didn't exactly follow the path of a traditional romance, with the conflict happening before the halfway point. Ginny and Elsie had to work on themselves in order to be the right romantic partner for each other, rather than everything magically being okay after their trip together. The chemistry between them, and the amount of love right from the start was so good. I loved their love.

And whew! Did Meryl ever turn up the heat with this book. It was face-melting hot. And so very queer. One of the things that I appreciated the most about this book was the queer community that Ginny immersed themselves in during the time apart from Elsie. That friend group was exactly what they needed.

I wanted to love this. I've loved the other two books by Meryl Wilsner I've read (seriously, the MILF book was SO good), and I knew that this was going to be crazy. It's a spicy F/NB romance that was set up to be just bonkers, and it delivered. It was very gay and very horny and I enjoyed the first 60%, minus the fact that it starts with one main character engaged to someone she doesn't even really like. It's a trope that isn't quite a love triangle, which I hate, but I realized through this book that I also don't like this trope. It comes too close to cheating for my liking, and it doesn't depict healthy relationships, even if eventually it's a healthy relationship.

Speaking of which, the third act break-up happened at the 60% mark, which is actually a second act break-up. And then they didn't get together again until the last chapter. I understand that authors like to show people figuring themselves out, but it's possible to do that with a partner? It doesn't require shutting out your best friend and then being a miserable mopey person for weeks. Unfortunately, that kind of soured this book for me.

This was a fun rom com. I thought the premise was great and appreciated that the ex-fiance wasn't a horrible, terrible guy it was just that they weren't right together.

One thing I didn't love was the whole third act breakup. Spoilers but having it be a lie by omission and overreaction to said lie by omission just wasn't my favourite. The fight felt overly dramatic but I appreciated that the characters each took that and grew from it individually.

Elsie Hoffman has been engaged to her college boyfriend for a year and a half. Ginny Holtz has been in love with Elsie for almost a decade and a half. When Elsie discovers her fiancé already planned their wedding and honeymoon as a surprise and she’s expected to be in a white dress in seven days, she swiftly realizes she’s let herself become too comfortable with a future she never wanted. She breaks things off, and a week later is on a plane to the Caribbean for her non-refundable honeymoon with her best friend Ginny instead.

Ginny thinks it’s high time Elsie learned how to speak up for herself. So, they make a deal with her: for the next week, Elsie can have whatever she wants, wherever, however, and whenever she wants it, as long as she asks. They never expected Elsie to want them. What starts as choosing activities and taking selfies soon turns to toe-curling kisses and much, much more. But what happens when the honeymoon is over?

Thanks so much to the publisher for my ALC and ARC!

I loved Meryl’s first two books and Mistakes Were Made is one of my all-time favourites. I struggled with Cleat Cute but hoped it was just a blip and had high hopes for this book, but unfortunately, I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

The premise was great and I really liked the fact that the main character was non-binary and just in general, I liked both main characters but I just couldn’t handle all the miscommunication and the way their relationship went from pining for each other in secret to lots of sex (too much, in my opinion) to what I thought was a very unnecessary conflict to the HAE. It just felt rush and a bit random?

Unfortunately, this wasn’t for me.

Thank you SMP and NetGalley for the arc of this book. All opinions are my own.

MERYLLLLLL! As always, Meryl nailed it. I love the way Meryl writes and this is my favorite yet! I couldn’t get enough. From the first page to the last, this gave. It gave me everything and I wanted to immediately read it again.

The way this book jumped from friends to lovers so fast was crazy. I didn’t feel any tension or buildup, so I didn’t believe it. Where was the yearning?? For them to have supposedly been in love for years I simply don’t believe it.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC!

I had a hard time connecting with this book. For the two MC’s to be BFFs there was a lot of topics they didn’t talk about. Like, how do you not talk to your bestie about her wedding? The trip itself also felt like their connection happened far too quick. I find it hard to believe they haven’t gone on vacation before and felt a connection. I just wish we saw more of them outside the trip and more of the reason why she would agree to marry someone only to put it off. Not a bad story, but not the deep bond I was hoping for. 3.25 stars

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc

Love Meryl Wilsner and all their books! This one did not disappoint. I fell in love with the characters and loved the inclusive spicy scenes.

This book was really cute. 🥺 The beginning was okay but where I really felt the story picked up was when Ginny and Elsie are on the honeymoon and decide Elsie gets whatever she wants. And does she ever 🥵 ..Ginny is such a good friend 😉 But really their friendship is so sweet and they're both a little oblivious which was fun!

3.5 ⭐

I will read anything Meryl Wilsner writes, but I could not finish this one! The tropes just weren’t for me. I did buy the characters love for one another or that a cis man planned entire wedding. I did not finish it!

I was offered a copy of this by NetGalley but these are my genuine thoughts. The copy I read may have changed after publication. 3.5 stars rounded up.

My Best Friend’s Honeymoon is a light, feel-good romance with charming moments and a sweet premise. Ginny, in particular, stands out as a genuinely lovable character. Her warmth and good intentions make her easy to root for.

However, while the setup was promising, the romance between Ginny and Elsie felt rushed and lacked the emotional buildup that makes a love story feel earned. Their relationship develops quickly, without enough organic progression or depth to fully invest in their connection. The chemistry was there in moments, but it often felt like the narrative pushed them together rather than letting their bond unfold naturally.

Still, fans of Wilsner’s previous works or those looking for a breezy romantic escape might find enjoyment in the book’s lighter elements and Ginny’s endearing personality.

I really liked this book until about halfway through, Sadly there were scenes that were not for me and I found myself not wanting to continue it. But for the most part the story was fun and the writing was really great. Excited to try this author again.

I’ve been a huge fan of Meryl Wilsner’s books for years and this one holds true! I really enjoyed Elsie and Ginny, their story was so fun and spiiiiicy 🌶️ my only drawback is my biggest disliked trope is miscommunication and I felt that the miscommunication fell a little short for me. Though, it was addressed by characters knowing they overreacted.

Another win for Meryl! Thanks for writing a great book!

⭐️: 4/5
🌶️: 4/5 On. So. Many. Pages. 🥵
I genuinely liked the book. It lost one star due to the conflict being so minor and the character blowing it out of proportion (even confirmed by a family member later on). I found the book a little hard to continue after this.

I am glad that Elsie and Ginny, and even Derrick, worked on their mental health to figure out what they actually wanted in order to be better people in the future.

Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin’s press for the ARC (even though I didn’t start reading it until after it was released. 😔)

Elsie Hoffman, engaged to her college boyfriend for a year and a half, breaks off the engagement after realizing she’s been too comfortable with a future she never wanted. She takes her non-refundable honeymoon to the Caribbean with her best friend Ginny Holtz, who has secretly loved her for almost fifteen years. Ginny encourages Elsie to speak up for herself, leading to a week of indulgence and unexpected romance between them. As their friendship turns into something deeper, they must face the reality of what happens when the honeymoon ends.

I really enjoyed this read- it was cute, spicy, and had all the right amount of banter. I devoured the book in less that 24 hours. I was rooting for Ginny, while at the same time I was sooo frustrated with Elsie. But I think in the end, I quite enjoyed how the book ended.

I loved the vacation/honeymoon spin on the book, and the change of scenery from real life to vacation life. I do wish there would have been a little bit more to their relationship while they were on the honeymoon, but that didn't take away from me enjoying their story one bit. Overall, I definitely recommend this, especially if you're looking for a good Sapphic romance.

I was really excited for this book when I read the synopsis but it fell a little short for me. Elsie and Ginny needed to work on their communication the whole book and it just got tiring after a while.
The island was my favorite part and I really wanted to read more about them connecting on a romantic level and not just a sexual one. The spice was nice, but after years of secret pining for each other I really wanted them to talk a little more about their feelings.
The pacing was really interesting to me too, it was a little slow in the beginning, jumped up a few notches really quickly and then fizzled again after a pivotal moment without ever really picking up speed again.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I adore Meryl Wilsner, Something to Talk About is one of my all-time favorite romances. However, long-time pining for a friend is one of my personal icks, so I was cautiously optimistic because if anyone could make it work for me, it'd be Meryl Wilsner. The spice is top tier. The author consistently makes every subsequent book of theirs spicier, but not in a way that it overtakes the romance. Overall I think Elsie and Ginny made a nice couple, and I enjoyed the pining trope more than I have in the past. It's still not a favorite, but the author made it work in a way it didn't make Ginny feel pathetic.

Overall, this was a lovely romance, my only reason for the 3 stars is the miscommunication trope and a drawn out conflict kinda took the wind out of my sails for the couple by the end.
