I didn't like the first part of this book. I almost thought about not finishing it. But I kept going and I did start to like it. I think it may be more of a YA book but never the less it was worth finishing. It is a book about love and hate. It is also about the different classes of people. Even though Ash and Ellie have a lot in common with family owned businesses, they are worlds apart. Ash is a moody type of guy who likes to have things go his way or he flies off the handle. Ellie is more laid back. They meet in Lisbon while traveling and it was "love at first sight". I think once you meet your soul mate that's it. You harbor that love throughout your life. This book was a tad predictable but it was a great love story. It is a light beach type read if you are looking for something like that this Spring/Summer.

This was my first Paige Toon book. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others. There was an instant connection between the MMC and the FMC. The book had drama, found family, travel adventures, love, slow burn, forgiveness and much more. The book leans more towards YA and is a bit long, but definitely an enjoyable read. I would say add it to your TBR when you’re in the mood for romance!!

First, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Penguin Group Putnam and @netgalley for providing me with the advanced reader copy of "WHAT IF I NEVER GET OVER YOU" by Paige Toon @paigetoonauthor. This delightful romance is brimming with clever banter, second chances, found family and home.

This is my first encounter with Paige Toon’s writing, and I must say, some books we merely read, while others we truly immerse ourselves in – and this one was an immersive experience for me from start to finish! Once I began reading, I simply couldn’t put it down. It’s beautifully crafted, filled with themes of hope, longing, heartbreak, trauma, healing, and the journey to finding your soulmate. This book is incredibly emotional and tugs at your heartstrings.
I wholeheartedly recommend diving into this experience for yourself!

Thank you @putnambooks and @netgalley for sending me this book for review. Opinions are my own.
This was my first book by Paige Toon and I was completely hooked.
What If I Never Get Over You follows Ellie, who never expected to fall in love while travelling through Europe on her own. During three unforgettable days in Lisbon, she forms a deep connection with Ash, and they plan to meet again in Madrid. But when Ellie arrives late, Ash is nowhere to be found. Six years later, Ellie is living her dream as a gardener on a historic Welsh estate. Her idyll is shattered when Ash suddenly reappears, and she learns the heartbreaking truth about his absence. As they reconnect, Ellie faces a choice between the past and the love that never truly went away.
Until I found out what happened in Madrid, I could not put this book down, reading later into the night than I should have. I wasn’t overly surprised by most of what happened but it didn’t stop me from devouring the book. I loved the gardening elements of the story and the work to maintain the gardens around a large country estate. I also enjoyed most of the side characters, although some of the parental figures were a bit over the top – although necessary for the story.
There were moments when it felt like too many years had passed without enough resolution. Again, necessary for certain parts of the story, but after a while, I just felt like Ellie was stuck in her sadness for so long, even though she did do a lot of work on herself and her relationship with her parents.
Despite this, Paige Toon really knows how to pull you into a story and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of her books.

I'm normally a huge fan of Paige Toon's books but this one felt a little bit different. I personally couldn't relate to any of the characters and truthfully felt like there wasn't a lot of connection between Ash and Ellie. I found both of them insufferable and hated how they were never communicating and how Ash was always dropping EVERYTHING for Beca when he claimed to love Ellie and stated that she had "nothing to worry about". The characters also felt really immature and were constantly running away from their problems instead of facing them head on. I found myself rushing to finish this one because I didn't really care what happened at the end.

I will always read Toon's books but if you're not a fan of the miscommunication trope, you can probably skip this one.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this in exchange for my honest review.

What If I Never Get Over You, is a more YA than adult romance novel from Paige Toon that takes us on a romance tale through Europe. A case of insta love set in Lisbon, wondering through the city and falling in love, in all of 3 days. I had a hard time with the 'in-between', it became a bit frustrating to me as a reader, and I was craving more communication between the two characters. Of course, the ending was a true romance ending. A quick and enjoyable read, great for when you need a mind escape. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

What If I Never Get Over You by Paige Toon releases April 15, 2024. Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This story is about Ellie, who is interrailing through Europe and meets Ash. After a quick meeting in Lisbon, they, through miscommunication, don't reconnect again...for 6 years. Ellie is now a gardener in Wales and stumbles upon Ash, and they have to decide whether or not to make the move this time.

I enjoyed Seven Summers but couldn't get myself invested in this plot. I really, really don't like miscommunication or lack of communication thrown in with immaturity, secrets, and lies. This wasn't the heaviest form of it, but I think that's what I was immediately turned off by and I think that clouded a lot of the rest of the book for me.

I think this may be more compelling for a younger, even YA audience. I might just be old, but I have to really be invested in a character to want to spend my time rooting for their cause, and for me, Ellie and Ash just didn't do it for me. Unfortunately! Because I did enjoy Seven Summers.

DNF. I'm disappointed I couldn't get into this story. Unfortunately, this book couldn't live up to Seven Summers. I just wasn't captivated like I was with that book. The biggest issue I had with this story was the instalust between Ellie and Ash. I struggled with the idea that these two people who hung out for three days were that held up over each other six years later. I didn't like that the author chose to include such a big-time gap in the story. Instead of giving us a few chapters between the years, everything was summarized in a few pages. I wasn't a fan of that. I didn't really care for the side characters. I found them basic and interchangeable. Ultimately, I felt like this story was too farfetched and as a result, I found myself uninterested in reading. Although I didn't care for this book, I am still eager to see what Paige Toon comes out with next. Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the ARC.

This novel is a masterclass in longing-the kind that simmers for years and never quite cools. Three Days, Six Years is a sweeping, romantic, and emotionally charged story that asks: what if the right person comes at the wrong time?

Ellie and Ash’s whirlwind three-day romance in Lisbon is the stuff of daydreams: electric, unexpected, and impossibly intense. But just when it promises to turn into something more, fate intervenes, leaving Ellie in a Madrid train station with a broken heart and no answers.

Fast forward six years, and Ellie has built a quiet, beautiful life tucked away in the lush gardens of a Welsh estate. Her peace is hard-won-until Ash reappears, bringing with him old sparks and devastating truths. Their chemistry hasn’t dulled, but the weight of what’s happened in the years between adds complexity and heartache to their reunion.

The writing is lush and evocative, the pacing gentle but immersive, and the emotional stakes feel wonderfully real. This isn’t just a love story- it’s about timing, forgiveness, and what we do when life doesn’t go according to plan.

For anyone who’s ever wondered “what if?” will fall for this story of deep connection, missed chances, and the kind of love that lingers through seasons, years, and heartbreak. Poignant and romantic, it’s a gorgeous read that stays with you long after the last page.

PAIGE TOON IS MY FAVORITE!!!!

My first read by Paige Toon was Only Love Can Hurt Like This which I absolutely devoured and loved. I was so hopeful What If I Never Get Over You would hit the same for me but unfortunately it did not. This book felt entirely too YA for my taste. YA can be hit or miss for me in general so I tend to steer clear of it, there’s nothing wrong w it, it’s just not something that I can say I enjoy all of the time. Lack of communication is my biggest pet peeve. Miscommunication trope is never enjoyable for me. I didn’t feel the connection between the main characters. It just felt very immature and lacking for me. Which is super hard for me to say because of how much I loved Only Love Can Hurt Like This.

This was such a cute read. I loved the connection between the main characters and enjoyed the gardening and space aspects weaved into the story. This was my first read by Paige Toon and I loved her writing style.

4.5 stars Thanks to Netgalley and Putnam for the E-ARC. My only expectation going into this book was to feel all the feels because Ive read Paige Toon before and the other book wrecked me and I was not disappointed. Ellie (FMC) and Ash (MMC) meet while interrailing (its a way to travel in Europe) ((yes I looked it up)). Then they get separated because of course there would be no story without it and find themselves again years later. Im gonna keep it real there was a point where Ellie annoyed me but I saw the bigger picture and kept reading and just let myself feel the story. Paige's writting is something you can get swept up in and actually feel what the characters are feeling.

Ellie and Ash cross paths in Portugal while interrailing and the timing is rather appropriate since Ellie is feeling lonely without her best friend by her side and her trip is about to come to an end. Ash is both intriguing and laidback and Ellie welcomes his company. The sparks are subtle at first, but continue to take flight where they don’t want to go their separate ways as they share their innermost thoughts and desires. However, their plans to reunite don’t come to fruition with no way to communicate and it’s about another 6 years later when they cross paths again.

Ellie had been at a crossroad of following her family expectations versus creating her own path and now she has happily accepted a position as a gardener at a large private estate in Wales. And now Ash is back in the picture, but not as how she remembered him. The dichotomy is unsettling for Ellie and becomes a source of strife and conflict throughout the rest of the story.

I genuinely liked Ash and while he had heavy expectations on his shoulders, he was always earnest and sincere. Ellie was a tad self righteous at times, but given the misogyny of society and social class, I understand where she was coming from, especially since she had everything to lose. I actually empathized with Ash more because he seemed to be a bit lost and between a rock and a hard place in his struggle to accept his title in his family and yet crave the freedom for simplicity and much less attention. It was a bit of a struggle to watch them swing back and forth with multiple obstacles including their family, friends/coworkers and jobs for a good portion of the time, that I was ultimately relieved towards the end when it was not such an uphill battle anymore. The last quarter was the best part of the book where Ellie proved her mettle and Ash was at peace with his choices, so together, they were where they were always meant to be.

This was my first Paige Toon read, and I really enjoyed it! It took me awhile to get used to the English terms but once I caught on, I enjoyed those aspects of the story! I was slightly irritated by Ellie and how she acted at points but the same can be said about Ash! It felt like so much could have been avoided if they had had more in depth conversations about specific things before jumping right back into a relationship but overall, I enjoyed their story!

"What If I Never Get Over You" by Paige Toon is a poignant and deeply moving second chance romance that deserves a glowing 5-star review. From the very first page, Paige Toon captures the essence of lost love and the enduring hope for rekindled connections. Her characters are vividly drawn, with relatable emotions that tug at the heartstrings.

The story centers around Ash and Ellie, whose past and present collide in a beautifully woven narrative. Paige Toon masterfully explores themes of love, loss, and the possibility of new beginnings in a way that feels authentic and heartwarming.

The emotional depth of the book is profound, with moments that genuinely resonate with anyone who's ever longed for a chance to rewrite the past. The chemistry between the protagonists is palpable, making their journey both compelling and heart-wrenching.

The writing style of Paige Toon is elegant and engaging, drawing readers into a world where the past and present dance in a delicate balance. The dialogue is sharp and real, and the plot, while tender, never feels contrived.

Ash and Ellie meet by chance while on vacation and spend a few whirlwind days falling for each other, But then circumstances keep them apart, and they go years without seeing each other. When they run into each other next, will the sparks still fly? Or are they too different from those people who fell in love all those years ago?

To say this book is a roller coaster would be any understatement. I was swooning one moment and sobbing the next. And I loved, Every. Minute. Of. It. Seriously, this was amazing!

Ellie grew so much over the course of this book and I am so proud of how brave she becomes in going after what she wants. Stella would be proud of her.

And then Ash. Ugh, Beautiful, wonderful, Ash. Someone get me one, stat! Man knows who he is and is so him unapologetically. I love it.

The tension between the two is amazing and built up so well. And the setting is amazing! Everything sounded so beautiful.

Part three felt slightly rushed, but that could be because I was devouring the pages at this point.

Overall, this was incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you don't like the miscommunication trope, you wont like this. A lot of the miscommunications come across as emotionally immature and insecure, like what you might find in a YA book. It's also a second (plus) chance rom-com. Overall, it was a good read.

Toon is an auto-read author for me and her latest novel, What If I Never Get Over You is simply a masterpiece.

Ellie and Ash meet in Lisbon, and its insta-love. Their connection was seamless as wandered the European landscape, cities, beaches and restaurants —all this over the course of three days. It was a the subtle touches, brief eye connections and smiles that made this love story so real.

While it played into the tropes we've come to expect in romance books, it worked for them as they embraced what the heart wanted, each other. Toon is a prolific wordsmith, playing on the reader's emotions and heartstrings, and I can't wait for her next book.

Paige Toon writes beautiful love stories, but this one was not for me. I just don't think I was the target demographic. This was more of a YA and this one had WAY more spice than I am comfortable with. The blurb describes the plot accurately, no surprises there; but the "insta-love" as it's been described, just wasn't well developed...or maybe it's their age??? Perhaps a younger reader might enjoy this more? I'm still a huge Paige Fan! 3 stars for me on this one. *I received a complimentary ARC from the author/publishing company via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely adore all of Paige Toon's books that I've read so far. This one is no different. Always full of emotional moments, personal traumas, and relationships that span several years as well as the test of time. This story also taught me much about space, nature and gardening/flowers as well as a bit about those posh residences that require several full time gardeners. Trying to live a life that is expected of you versus doing what you love plays a central role of the story and the responsibility to others as well as yourself brings the story to life. Both main characters had me loving and disliking them in equal measures but in the end, it was their love story that drew me in.
