Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this cookbook!
I don't know if I'm a tinned fish girlie - but this cookbook made me consider exploring tinned fish! Yes, the cookbook is going to give preference to the Fishwife brand - but that doesn't surprise me at all. The cookbook is extremely aesthetically pleasing, and I looooooved the illustrations.
Definitely recommend!

Tinned fish has gone from pantry afterthought to culinary darling—and The Fishwife Cookbook is leading the wave. From the beloved brand Fishwife Tinned Seafood Co., this cookbook is equal parts playful, practical, and powerful in its argument for making tinned fish a star ingredient. Whether you’re hosting a cocktail party or whipping up a solo lunch, this book redefines convenience food with style and substance.
Audience
If you’re a fan of stylish food, fun storytelling, and fast prep times, this one’s for you. It’s perfect for modern eaters who love bold flavors, those who want to eat more seafood without the stress, and anyone who appreciates a cookbook with a strong personality. City-dwelling foodies, picnic-lovers, and creative home cooks will all find something to love here.
Mission
The Fishwife Cookbook champions sustainability, accessibility, and joy. At its heart, it’s about reclaiming the convenience of tinned fish in a way that feels fresh, elevated, and surprisingly luxurious. The book showcases how quality ingredients and a sense of humor can turn even the simplest pantry staple into a satisfying, elegant dish. It’s also a love letter to mindful sourcing and the communities of fisherfolk behind each tin.
Standout and Unique Features
Occasion-based chapters like Just a Quickie, Picnic in the Park, and Hosting a Cocktail Party make it easy to find the right recipe for your mood.
Educational sidebars like “How to Pack a Perfect Picnic” and the “Tinned Fish Beverage Companion Guide” add unexpected depth.
Signature Fishwife artwork brings a colorful, whimsical touch to the page, making it feel more like a lifestyle manifesto than a traditional cookbook.
Creative recipes that use tinned fish in surprising ways—from deviled eggs to lamb bolognese.
What I liked
The voice is smart, sassy, and informed—just like the Fishwife brand itself.
Many recipes are quick and flexible, making them easy to adapt.
The aesthetic is unmatched: gorgeous photography + quirky illustrations = total visual treat.
Strong focus on responsible sourcing and sustainability without being preachy.
What I Wish It Had
The brand-forward nature of the book means it leans heavily into the Fishwife product line, which might limit substitutions for some readers.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this cookbook. The cover, while eye catching, did not convey how good this book was. The recipes were unique!

I am such a sucker for food trends since I am equally *so* fascinated how and why certain trends take off. Fancy tinned fish is one trend that is endlessly fascinating to me. The branding, of course, elevates how we feel when we purchase a shelf-stable tin of fish that would make 60s/70s aspic makin' mamas proud.
This is all to say, Fishwife - and fancy tinned fish moments, look visually appealing AND taste great. I had a lot of fun tearing through the pages of this cookbook and dreaming of having friends over for a chic summer dinner party and/or picnic. Divine!

Whenever a company puts out a cookbook using their products, it is usually excellent because the company wants readers to use their products. One such cookbook is The Fishwife Cookbook: Delightful Tinned Fish Recipes for Every Occasion (A Sustainable and Wholesome Fish Cookbook, Discover the Versatility of Tinned Fish Today!). by Becca Millstein and Vilda Gonzalez and sponsored by The Fishwife Tinned Seafood Company (author Becca the CEO of the company). The products are available across the country. The recipes are nice because they contain canned seafood, so readers can purchase it ahead and have it waiting on their pantry shelves to make at their convenience. There are several recipes that could easily become go-to dishes for families. While all of us are familiar with canned tuna, the variety of Fishwife products lets us expand our recipe repertoire . The cookbook is adorable with colorful illustrations as well as photographs.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. Most have short lists of ingredients and most are simple to make. The book is cute and colorful and is fun to read as well as cook from.
All told, this cookbook makes a fun addition to any cookbook collection with unique recipes using sustainable, very high quality seafood.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I loved diving into the pictures and world of this cookbook! It was so well done, and I tried a couple recipes already. Fishwife tinned tuna has been a favorite of my family's for a year or so now and I was super excited to have an ARC of this stunning cookbook. I am going to buy the psychical book to have on my kitchen shelf :)

The Fishwife Cookbook is a solid collection with some real standouts—the Martini, Savory Miso Oats, and Smoked Salmon Frittata are sure to be favorites. I did wish for more elevated recipes, as a lot felt pretty basic. That said, the photography is stunning, and I’m definitely getting myself a hardcover copy just for the pictures.

I adored this book! It’s perfect for anyone looking to get creative with pantry staples or indulge in some fancy tinned fish. The ingredients were all refreshingly accessible—I never once thought, Gee, my grocery store won’t carry that, which is something I’ve run into with other cookbooks.
The illustrations were nostalgic and pleasantly colorful, adding to the book’s charm. I also loved the regional stories that accompanied some of the recipes—they gave the book a wonderful sense of atmosphere and history. I’ll definitely be trying out several of the dishes I discovered in these pages.
If you’ve ever struggled to find the perfect recipe for that lovely tin of sardines, look no further—your search ends here!

I love how this book is set up. I also love how things come together so quickly with tinned fish. The recipes are easy to follow and have few ingredients which leads to the ease of making food. I particularly liked the meal for one chapter. The deep dive pages are my favorite in this book for bringing everything together. The Matcha Ochazuke with Smoked Salmon was mind blowing. The Foil Dinner with Chili Crisp Salmon was easy and the clean up was nonexistant.

This is such a great and fun cookbook! I love the Fishwife products and it was really awesome that they made a cookbook to highlight all of the great things you can do with their products. I highly recommend and can't wait to keep cooking my way through this cookbook!

I must admit that this book was anchovy heavy, and for someone who's not a fan of anchovies, those recipes were a hard pass. However, I have 22 recipes I've noted and can't wait to try!
I love the idea of taking a pantry staple, tinned fish, and making it into something fancy, delectable, and more versatile than we realize and appreciate that the author stays reasonably true in regards to the ingredients which add to the authenticity respective of Southern/Southwestern Europe.
A note to simplify for others:
Crème fraîche is essentially the the European equivalent of sour cream. No need to be afraid of an unfamiliar word. Same with the spices. Google and amazon can assist you with learning about and purchasing new spices.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to trying some of recipes. (My fiancée, the genuine pig, however, is apprehensive, haha.) I think these would make lovely budget lunches for the office, and nice refreshing summer dinners.

Like the brand and tinned fish it's known for, The Fishwife Cookbook is taking something classic and putting a fun, bright, accessible spin on it. Like many people I have gotten swept up in the resurgence of tinned fish (and I've bought bunch of them from Fishwife), but other than eating them out of the tin I don't know what to do with them. This cookbook took that problem and made it into a community. There are recipes, general ideas, fun tidbits, and deep dives accompanied by fun illustrations, great pictures, and friendly advice narrative. I liked that the recipes were grouped by occasion and I think there are many recipes that I will be excited to try. My only regret is that I couldn't get this as a gift for my Dad for Christmas when I got him loads of Fishwife tinned fish.

I think this is a fresh new cookbook, I enjoy the cover and images. I also enjoy that this is a somewhat unique collection of recipes and cooking ideas that are not often seen in some generic cookbooks. I think that is one great feature of this.

If the illustrations don't make you pick up this book, then you are crazy. This is one of the prettiest cookbooks I have ever seen. The illustrations are the best style and the photographs are gorgeous.
But those aren't the only great things about this book. There are so many special touches that make me keep coming back to it. The deep dive suggestions on making plates and pizzas really show how easy it is to mix tinned fish into your regular meal rotations. And not only that, but the recipes are so simple, in a perfect way. The ingredient list is full of easily accessible items, with an item list that is small. These can all be made very easily and quickly. Most of the recipes have photographs with them, or a little illustration to go along with the ingredients.
I love the chapter headings, like "In Front of the Fireplace" with their illustrations and quick description of the reason for these meals. There is a great mix of tinned fish flavors and uses. I love all of the ideas and inspiration and can't wait to keep making these recipes.

"The Fishwife Cookbook" is super bright, colorful, cute and fun to look at/ through however the anchovy martini sounds awful. All the other recipes look great!

As someone with a previous aversion to tinned fish, I was skeptical at first about the nature of tinned fish alone, and further the potential to cook with it. I really loved the beginner approach the cookbook takes as it walks the reader through pantry curation and then some low life recipes to get started with these ingredients. Great gift!

*The Fishwife Cookbook* elevates your tinned fish experience with 80 creative recipes perfect for any occasion—whether it’s a quick snack, a solo meal, or a picnic. Packed with tips, stunning visuals, and whimsical illustrations, it’s a fun, fresh way to dive into the delicious world of tinned seafood.

As a recent fan of the tinned fish trend, this book was helpful in curating the many ways one can use tinned fish to spruce up recipes and flavor palettes. I am such a big fan of Fishwife and have bought their Fly by Jing collab so much you'd think I'm their best customer! Despite loving the product, I had trouble thinking of recipes using the fish that didn't involve a plain cracker and maybe a little Kewpie Mayo.
This cookbook is sure to delight tinned fish eaters and would make a great gift to all the chefs out there.

My nuclear family was not a tinned fish family aside from the ubiquitous canned tuna fish. My mom grew up on the Gulf Coast of Texas and loved fishing and crabbing, so we frequently had fresh fish on the table for dinner. It wasn’t until I got to grad school that I met people who bought tinned fish other than tuna. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t really know what to do with it on my own. I was attracted to The Fishwife Cookbook by its colorful and happy cover. I am somewhat intimidated by tinned fish. I’ve enjoyed it when it’s been presented to me, but I’m never sure I’ll actually like it and I know I can’t eat a whole tin by myself. The thought of leftover tinned fish in my fridge does not appeal.
I liked The Fishwife Cookbook. It did the thing that I needed it to do. It gave me a wide range of recipes, plus a few guides on how to enjoy tinned fish without a recipe. It has given me the courage to strike out on my own in the world of preparing tinned fish. Having the company cookbook also made me more willing to spend the money on a few of their products. My favorite are the smoked salmons – original and with chili crisp. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon dip. It was quick, easy, and went well with veggies and potato chips. With a glass of crisp white wine, it made a nice dinner for one, and the leftovers held up well the next day. The smoked salmon with chili crisp isn’t terribly spicy, but it has a nice funk that paired well with rice and veggies for a rice bowl. The crispy potatoes on herbed yogurt with pickled onions and smoked trout was very tasty with my preferred combination of crunchy, creamy, funky and bright. The tonnato though, is the most likely to become a staple. It’s rich and unctuous, pairing well with roast veggies.
I really enjoyed exploring an area of food that I wasn’t familiar with. The cookbook is out in February.
I received this as an advance reader copy from William Morrow and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

This is a gorgeous cookbook with so many ideas for using tinned fish. I was already a fan of Fishwife and the recipes here only make more me on board. Snacks, full meals, unexpected combinations—there's a lot here to explore. Some of my favorites were: trout salad sandwich, the asparagus rice bowl with salmon, toasted almonds and herbs, and the smoked salmon mac and cheese. Yum! Gorgeous photos too.
Thanks so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC!
