Suprise Dinosaur was such a cute and fun read! This one would be a great tool for prompting discussion with your child about surprises. My 4 year old loved the dinosaur's expressions and shouting "Surprise, Dinosaur!" on the pages along with me.

T. Rex is a cheerful dinosaur who loves to surprise people. Illustrations include diverse characters & it is a great addition to your SEL picture books.

Mother of two here, and we really enjoyed Surprise Dinosaur, by Lucas Klauss! The story follows an adorable dinosaur who loves to surprise people, in his new town, and doesn’t understand why everyone keeps running away screaming. As a mother, I loved sweet ending, when the children were hoping the dinosaur would surprise them. The illustrations were beautifully done, by Mike Moran, and my children LOVED looking at the pictures! The illustrations of the humans all being dinosaurs were so creative and well-done! The story flowed well and kept everyone’s attention, and it was perfect for my 8-year-old to read to my 5-year-old. I would definitely recommend this book to family with elementary-aged kids, or for the dinosaur-loving kiddo in your family!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for this eARC!

I'm a sucker for dinosaur books and I really enjoyed this one. Turns out, other people enjoy dinosaurs too, but they don't always enjoy being surprised by one! This book is so cute and hilarious.

Surprise Dinosaur is laugh-out-loud funny with bright, inclusive illustrations and tons of personality. The humor is clever and silly, making it a perfect read-aloud for kids and grown-ups alike. A delightful surprise from start to finish!

"Surprise Dinosaur!" by Lucas Klauss is a picture book of a dinosaur that loves surprises. The dino keeps sneaking up on humans. The book has lessons on the importance of being yourself. Good for elementary collection and ages 3 - 6.

It was okay, I think the book was trying to be funnier than I thought it was. The kiids all being dinosaurs at the end just didn't make sense to me.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

While I didn’t personally love the book, I can see this being a big hit with children as it’s a good length, entertaining, funny, unexpected, and manages to teach a lesson about the difference between good and bad surprises. I imagine that the children who would love this book are the same ones that go on to adore Dogman and The Bad Guys. There is a casualness in the text that makes it feel like you’re experiencing it alongside the dinosaur.

This the best children's picture book I've read this year! Absolutely adorable and sure to become one of your child's favorites. The illustrations are colorful and the text is engaging. There are lots of Dinosaur books on the shelf and this one stands out!

If you have a young reader or audience who loves dinosaurs they will love this book. It had pretty graphics to go along with the story, but overall it was a simple and fast read.

The story is absolutely delightful, making for a truly enjoyable read that also provided a valuable learning experience. The illustrations were a delightful! Thank you SOURCEBOOKS Kids | Sourcebooks Jabberwocky and NetGalley. My review is my own.

Malakhai said that he liked the book. He said that he loved the surprises. He liked that Surprise Dinosaur was nice and didn’t eat people. As Malakhai’s mom, I enjoyed the book as well. Malakhai is starting to read on his own, and this was right in his level. The illustrations were beautiful and quite hilarious.

A carnivorous dinosaur enjoys surprising people, but not everyone enjoys being surprised by a large dinosaur with big teeth. The dino must find its place so that it is happy as well as those around it. This was a very cute dinosaur book that will teach kids about empathy for others by showing them not everyone likes surprises. The illustrations are cute and fit the mood of the story perfectly. Personally, I would love a surprise dinosaur to stop by to see me.

I love t-Rex’s and this was such a cute book. The art was adorable and the story was sweet. The perfect story book for bedtime reading.

Our dinosaur loves to surprise people, but people do not love being surprised by dinosaur. With help of another human, surprise dinosaur finds the perfect job where it’s perfectly OK to be a surprise. This book was fine. It was fun, but did feel a little long.

Surprise Dinosaur is a cute little book about a dinosaur who doesn’t quite understand social cues. The illustrations were great, colorful and eye catching. It’s a delightful story that promotes conversation about social situations and reading cues. The story’s message will be best understood by the early school age child that will understand the implied humor of the illustrations.

I really enjoyed this fun picture book.
Who wouldn't love to have a very large very toothy carnivorous dinosaur jump out and yell surprise? Turns out just about everyone, oh I guess he needs to learn when it's ok to surprise people.
This book takes us on a journey with an excited dinosaur who just wants to be a nice surprise, but finds that many people don't want to be surprised.
While it could be considered a little long, it has awesome potential as a read aloud because of how excited the dinosaur is.

This silly, engaging book about a dinosaur who loves surprises of all kinds but needs help understanding that not EVERYONE loves surprises of all kids is great for classrooms and conversations about social emotional learning and social language groups without feeling didactic! It can be used to talk about social clue finding, perspective taking, similarities and differences in people's preferences, and empathy! Highly recommend, especially for younger audiences!

A sweet little book about a dinosaur learning about social interactions and the appropriateness of situations. The illustrations were sweet, but the story was a little lopsided. I understood the message, but I'm afraid it may be loss on children. I would so definitely recommend, but perhaps for slightly older age bracket.

The overly excited title character, a friendly green T-Rex, narrates this tale of his visit to a school: “Surprise Dinosaur! That’s me! I love surprises. Everybody loves surprises.” Unfortunately, he scares many people so he tries to moderate his behavior with mixed results. The text is in both short paragraphs and dialogue balloons, and the humor seems best suited to children who are beginning school. The digitally created, full-color artwork resembles classic Warner Bros. cartoons, with the children representing various racial groups. The story is somewhat uneven but will help with social and emotional learning about social cues.
