I. Loved. This. Book!!!!!! She’s a romance author that doesn’t believe in happily ever afters. Her career comes to an abrupt pause and she ends up at an off grid lodge in Alaska where she meets a man that fits the bill for every single one of the romance tropes she’s written about. This book is like a love letter to the romance readers, bookstagram community and to anyone who needs an extra dose of hope in their life. The relationship between Margot and her sister had me crying multiple times, and also Forrest’s relationship with his dad. I am blown away that this is a debut novel and so thrilled I was able to read an early copy!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a chance to eARC!
Ok so starting out, I had never read a book that was the equivalent of reading satire, from an author, in a novel! At first, I honestly didn't know if it was my thing, but after a few chapters, I found myself actually laughing out loud. I grew to LOVE Margot and Forrest so much. I understood their hesitations about love and their HEA's, after the cards they had been dealt so far in life. I was absolutely rooting for them from the get-go.
Margot may not believe that the tropes she writes about in her romance novels truly exist, but then here comes Forrest, her IRL, unavoidable, living, breathing trope, and she cannot help herself when it comes to him. Watching both Margot and Forrest work through self discovery, family relationships, and could it be? Their very own happy ever after was truly such a joy!

In order to properly do parody or pastiche you need to know your source material. Unlike the mocking tone of parody, a good pastiche loves and appreciates its source material.
Any Trope But You is a cute, but also emotionally fulfilling homage to all (and I mean almost ALL) the tropes that make romance the most popular genre of fiction. And while we get the fun ones, like a too small towel, we also get illnesses of loved ones, and other real and not so happy ones.
This is what the book gets right. Even in a perfect happily ever after, not everything will go right, there will still be challenges, and there will be conflict.
While giving everything you could possibly ask for in a romcom, Any Trope But You also reminds you why you read them in the first place.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the Alaskan setting and sister relationship in Any Trope But You! This was a heartwarming read with dual perspectives of Margot and Forrest. The ending was a bit quick and I wished we got to see more of the main characters romance after the happy ending.
Thank you to Atria books and NetGalley for the advanced copy. Any Trope But You is available on April 1, 2025.

Y’all should know by now that I am here for the tropes. So when a book is called Any Trope But You and then lives up to its title by deftly weaving in as many romance tropes as possible, I am a happy camper!
I really enjoyed both the premise and main characters. Margot and Forrest were both fully fleshed out characters and their chemistry right from the jump was great.
I also really liked how they both were in the caretaker role for their respective loved ones- it gave them common ground for them to bond over.
This was a really cute book and I’ll definitely be checking out more of Victoria Lavine in the future!
Read if you like:
- All of the tropes
- Grumpy x Grumpy (?)
- One Tent/Huddling For Warmth
- Forced Proximity
- Meet Uglies
- Journeys of Self Discovery
Thanks to Atria and Netgalley for the eARC.

Cute premise, but just not for me. This is a me thing for sure - I just couldn't connect with the characters. It was painful at times to try to get into. Margot gave me whiplash & I just didn't really like her. I get the appeal for many & I think others will find this enjoyable but this just wasn't for me.

Cute fun read. Margot has been hurt by many guys in her past, as a romance author it’s her job to create beautiful HEAs even if she doesn’t believe in them. When the truth comes out she fears her future is ruined. Escaping to Alaska Margot meets Forrest. There is instant attraction, instant judging and assumptions, along with some avoidance.
During her stay Margot realizes she’s stronger than she thinks, she can do hard unimaginable things, and sometimes there can be HEAs.

This is what spicy romance books are supposed to be 🙌 while simultaneously poking fun at them. I loved the emotional development, character development, banter, setting. Just perfect! Thanks for the ARC!

3.75 stars! 🌟 Huge thanks to Atria Books for the eARC via Netgalley! 💌
Okay, hear me out—this book was like getting hit with every rom-com trope in existence, and somehow, it WORKED. 😂
Margot Bradley is a bestselling romance author who—plot twist—doesn't believe in HEAs. And when her secret Happily Never After document leaks, she gets canceled hard. Her solution? Run off to Alaska to write a murder mystery (because what could go wrong?). Enter Forrest Wakefield, a doctor-turned-reluctant-lodge-owner with a heart of gold and a serious case of grumpy-but-soft-for-her. 🥹
Listen. This book is self-aware AF. It throws every classic romance trope at you—forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, one tent, only one bed, stuck in the wilderness—and it knows exactly what it's doing. Margot even acknowledges how absurd it is, which made it so much fun. 😭
💖 Things I Loved:
✔ Alaska setting – the snowy vibes were immaculate. ❄️
✔ Forrest – if book boyfriends were a competition, he’d at least place Top 5. A hot, broody doctor who quotes Taylor Swift at the gym? Please. 🫠
✔ Margot's chaotic energy – girl was out here dodging moose and embarrassing herself at every turn, and I was living for it.
✔ The romance!!! – The slow burn, the tension, the emotional depth—I was hooked.
🤨 What Didn't Work as Much:
✘ That ending felt RUSHED. I needed at least 20 more pages of Margot & Forrest being cute. 🫠
✘ Margot’s conflict choices... questionable. Some moments made me wanna shake her like, girl, use your brain just once.
But overall?? This was adorable. Fluffy, hilarious, and genuinely heartwarming. If you love rom-coms that embrace the chaos, this one’s for you. 😍
Tropes you’ll eat up:
❄️ Enemies-to-lovers
❄️ Forced proximity
❄️ Romance author x Doctor
❄️ Grumpy & Grumpier
❄️ A moose steals the show
Final verdict: This was unhinged in the best way and I loved it. 😂 Definitely picking up whatever Victoria Lavine writes next!

4.5/5 stars for me. It was sooo cute and I giggled on almost every page. Like laughing out loud before we even met the MMC. I loved Margot & Savannah’s relationship dynamic- reminded me so much of my own sister!
Any Trope But You follows Margot, a romance writer facing backlash when her Happily Never After doc gets leaked. Her chronically ill sister, Savannah, decides to book Margot a 6 week reinvention trip to Alaska. In Alaska, Margot meets Forrest and they accidentally fall into one trope after another.
It was definitely a bit meta to be reading a romance books about a romance author, but it was done in a way that never took itself too seriously and it was SO fun.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me an e-ARC. All opinions are my own

This book was good. I wouldn’t say it was amazing but I won’t say it’s bad either. it’s just in between. Like a nice read that doesn’t require effort or a lot of thought.

A romance author who doesn’t believe in love, stuck at an Alaskan resort with a grumpy-but-sweet guy? Yeah, I was hooked. Margot and Forrest have the kind of banter that makes you smile like an idiot, and the way this book plays with romance tropes is so fun.
Was it predictable? A little. Did I care? Not at all. It was cozy, charming, and exactly the kind of feel-good read I needed. If you love rom-coms with witty dialogue and a touch of irony, definitely pick this one up!

I really enjoyed this one! Thank you so much Netgalleg for the ARC! Margot, our FMC, was fun to follow as she pointed out all of the romance tropes I love to read about as they occurred in her interactions with Forrest, the MMC. Reading from both of their perspectives really allowed us to see the feelings build and then be pushed away! It’s no surprise we got to see all of our favorite romance tropes along the way. I’m looking forward to reading more from Victoria Lavine in the future!!

It was such a fun read! Any book with a moose on the cover is an automatic read for me. I enjoyed Margot and Forrest's interactions, and I loved Savannah's letters!

Any trope but you is a cute romance set in Alaska. Our MC is a romance author who doesn’t believe in love. Once her fans find out her sister books her an Alaskan vacation to escape and work on her next book, a murder mystery.
Overall, I enjoyed this book & thought it was an easy read.
As someone who understands what it feels like to have a sister that needs care, their relationship was my favorite part of the book.
I found the conflict, before the third act conflict, to be resolved rather quickly. I’m glad it didn’t devolve into a he-said, she-said argument but I also feel like it went from the MC being really upset to immediately fine.
This book is a cute story and an easy read. It’s not my favorite romance but I would recommend it to any romance readers!
Thank you to NetGalley & Atria for my copy!

WOWOWOW!!! this book blew my expectations out of the water! it was such a fun read filled with the romance tropes we all know and love, characters i already miss like they were my own best friends and swoony moments i couldn’t get enough of. the idea of a romance author not believing in love had me hooked before even starting and the way victoria executed it was beautiful. my only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed and i wished we had a lot more time with margot and forrest, she could have given us 150 more pages of their love story and i’d be content reading it even if it ended up like one of
margot’s leaked files 😂
This book is like a love letter to the romance readers, bookstagram community and to anyone who needs an extra dose of hope in their life. and i cannot wait to see what else victoria lavine has up her sleeve.

What an absolutely stunning debut!! Like I genuinely cannot believe this is Victoria's debut novel. This has all the makings of a romance author veteran: swoon worthy moments, a setting to die for, and emotional depth that have me sobbing on and off through the whole book. Yes, this is a romance book but it is so much more than that. The relationship between Savannah and Margot and Forrest and Trapper were just as important to this book at the romantic relationship between Margot and Forrest. This book is a true love letter to romance books and all different forms of love.
I also loved how the setting of this book felt like an additional character and how it helped Margot step out of her shell and prove to herself how brave she is. I could really relate to Margot and how she felt like a fish out of water in an outdoor setting and how she overcame her fears both with that and learning to open herself up to love again.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy. Any Trope But You follows Margot, a romance author who does not believe in the happy ever after that she writes. After her file of bitter endings of her books gets leaked, Margot needs a reset from all of the responsibilities of her life. Savannah, Margot’s sister, sends her on a trip to Alaska to write her next book. While there Margot meets Forrest, the owner of the resort. During her six week stay, she slowly starts to believe in Happily Ever Afters. Some tropes included in this story include enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity. I enjoyed the story, but I do feel like the story was rushed at the end.

4.5⭐️ 3🌶️
There’s something about someone catapulting to rock bottom and hitting the reset button with a new adventure that I just love to read about. Probably the immense satisfaction in watching the phoenix rise from the ashes, get their life together, change their perspective, and get their guts rearranged along the way by a rugged mountain man/doctor.
The wittiness and self-awareness captivated me from the very first page and made this pretty unputdownable, honestly.
Looking forward to more from this author!”

3.75⭐️ Such a fun romance with ALL the tropes (on purpose) but with a lot more heart. I loved the Alaska setting and the extra characters at the lodge. While I didn’t always love the cheesiness of the book, it was very enjoyable and the depth the characters have to their life stories helps.
