Margot Bradley writes romance, but Margot Bradley doesn’t do romance. It’s too bad one of the hosts for her six-week stay at a remote Alaskan resort seems to be the embodiment of all of her romance heroes rolled into one.

Assorted thoughts I had while reading:
- The bit with the moose cracked me up!
- What a fun meet-cute/meet-disaster!
- I love the push-pull between Margot and Forrest ❤️
- And I really appreciate the autoimmune rep.
- Tension, tension, tension!
- Oh Lordy, that sauna scene (*fans self*)
- All the letters 🥹
- LOVED it!

I had a couple quibbles with actions that felt out of character that are included in order to move the plot along, but all in all, this is a solid debut from Victoria Lavine. I look forward to seeing what she writes next!

Before I start, I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for a free eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I'd say this is a 3.5 rounded down. First off, I loved the Alaskan setting. Being stripped of outside communication for the most part was an excellent vehicle for both Margot and Forrest's character development. The banter was incredibly sweet too, and there were several places where I laughed out loud at all the fish out of water hijinks. However, what kept me from really loving the book was that the spicier moments didn't feel as earned as I would have liked, and I didn't love the dialogue there. Also, I was Margot and Savannah's dynamic was more developed. Other romance authors have balanced romance with similar subplots better, in my opinion. I hope that the author considers writing a book from Savannah's perspective as she was my favorite character, and I definitely felt her spirit shine through in her letters.

All in all, it was an enjoyable read and I'd consider reading more of Victoria Lavine's novels!

Any Trope But You by Victoria Lavine is a delightful, laugh-out-loud romance that brilliantly plays with classic tropes while delivering something fresh and utterly charming. With sparkling banter, undeniable chemistry, and a cleverly meta approach to romance storytelling, Lavine crafts a novel that feels both like a love letter to the genre and a sharp, modern take on it. The characters are irresistibly lovable, their dynamic crackling with tension and humor, making every page a joy to read. Witty, heartfelt, and brimming with romance, this book is an absolute must-read for anyone who adores rom-coms with a self-aware twist.

This debut romance features a fish out of water heroine and the mountain man she meets while working on her new book at a rustic Alaskan lodge. It is a great rom-com that felt like a love letter to romance readers, touching on so many fun tropes and having our main character comment on them along the way. I adored the characters and their banter and had fun reading this one!

Thank you to Atria for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I got to read an ARC of this adorable rom-com thanks to @victorialavinewrites and @netgalley . It was so cute!!

Margot Bradley is a rom-com writer who has stopped believing in love. In an attempt to help her reinvent herself, her chronically ill sister sends her for a six week sojourn in the Alaskan Wilderness. Margot plans to use the time to try her hand at writing a murder mystery, but Forrest, the hot doctor turned wilderness guide who cares for his ailing father who owns the lodge where she is staying, is disrupting her vibe. She finds herself facing trope after trope with him, and soon, her hard earned walls are crumbling.

The romance between Margot and Forrest was sweet and fun, and the heavier themes surrounding caretaking and the toll chronic illness takes on loved ones were handled with care. I really enjoyed the metafiction aspect of a rom-com writer living out her most written tropes. I haven't read anything else by Victoria Lavine, but I will definitely be seeking out more of her work.

Any Trope But You will be released on April 1st

"Any Trope But You" by Victoria Lavine is one of the most refreshing romance books I've read in a long time. I'm not going to lie, at the beginning I was a little nervous because the main character, Margot, was grating on my nerves a bit. Also the constant mentioning and pointing out of tropes was taking me out of the story, kind of like when the fourth wall is broken - it very rarely works. HOWEVER, and that's a big however because not only did Margot turn around and actually had great character development, but even with the pointing out of tropes it all worked really well. This book was aware what it was doing - it was poking fun but in a loving way at all those cheesy romance tropes while also blatantly feeding into them. The romance between Forrest and Margot was slow burn and then a fiery inferno and I was in it all the way through. I loved how they both had similar life-situations and were able to support each other and ultimately had empathy for the other even during the third-act conflict. Overall such a great story and I can't wait to see what else Victoria Lavine puts out.

First I would like to thank Netgalley and Atria books for the ARC of this novel.

This novel was just a great, sweet romance that made me smile throughout reading it.

I loved all the troupe references and how they played out throughout the entire book. It was fun to see the MC call out these events all while they were happening. It really worked with the storyline of Margot being a romance writer. I also loved how devoted both Margot and Forest were to their families almost to a fault but it was really sweet to see.

I very much enjoyed this book and if you are looking for a sweet romance with just a little spice I highly recommend.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to love this as much as I loved the cover artwork and theme, but I just didn't. I kept putting it down because it didn't hold my attention, and then the spicy scenes... Oy. I don't shy away from spice, but never in my vast amount of reading have I said "EW!" out loud as many times as I did in this book. The last two chapters were probably the best and most interesting.

Any Trope But You has the Alaskan vibes of The Simple Wild, the sister-relationship of Book Lovers, and the unique magic of Victoria Lavine! This was a super fun read full of depth and humor.

Any Trope But You follows Margot, a bestselling romance author that gets cancelled when her fans discover she doesn't really believe in HEA. Margot ends up in Alaska so she can try and write a new book. Enters Forrest, Mr. Perfect, Mr. Fits-Every-Romance-Trope-Ever-Written.

Let's start by saying that I enjoyed the setting so much, it made me want to pick up my phone and book a trip to Alaska for a couple of weeks! I would've liked having more excursions and adventures at North Star Lodge to dive even deeper in this setting.

Any Trope But You was a cute and cozy romance. Although, it was hard for me to get into the book and to connect with the characters. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for such a light, fluffy romance. I felt like I needed more character development, more growth from both Margot and Forrest. That being said, I liked the side characters and Forrest's family. Overall, it was a fun and cute read!

4.5/5 ⭐️ rounded up. Loved this one. Although there were aspects I didn’t care for (I found the self-aware, meta romance-novel-trope internal dialogue to be grating and somewhat nonsensical) and found the pacing off at times (too much insta-love), the Emily Henry-calibre banter and cringe-free spice made up for it. Thank you Netgalley and Atria for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I devoured this book in less than 24 hours, and if that doesn't encourage you to read it, I plan on trying to do so with the rest of this review. Margot is a romance writer with her sister Savannah as a side kick. I myself have a younger sister and me and her are the best of friends, just like Margot and Van.

When an online meet and greet goes wrong, Van plans a six-week get away for Margot to Alaska to write her new manuscript. But she also had hopes of Margot finding her HEA (happily ever after). The Great Outdoors was a bit of a shell-shock for Margot, especially when she meets Bullwinkle the moose. This is where she bumps into Forrest. We LOVE Forrest.

He was the quintessential male lead in a romance book and he played the part. I loved that he was adventure seeking and a leader. The excursions he led were so fun to read about, even when Margot was a bit of a fish out of water. That just made it so much better!!

I do not want to give away too much, but I loved this book so much. I loved that it took place in Alaska, I dream of going there one day with my HEA. I loved the love interest, grumpy girl meets mister sunshine. The smut was gooood!! I wouldn't say it was a slow burn because I did devour this book in less than a day, but the spice happened later in the book. But the build-up was soooo worht the wait; I loved the one-tent trope ;)

Happy reading xx

An Alaskan mountain man as our love interest? COUNT ME IN.

This book had all the tropes, and it completely stole my heart. I received it as an ARC, and apparently, it’s set to release in April—which feels like a huge disservice to the story itself. The entire book takes place during winter at an Alaskan vacation lodge… why isn’t this coming out in a winter month?!

Our main character, Margot, is a romance author who doesn’t really believe in happily-ever-afters—she’s too jaded. Meanwhile, Forrest, our lodge-owning, heart-of-gold genius, is the perfect man. Seriously, I adored him.

Margot and Forrest’s love story made me swoon. Yes, it was tropey, and yes, I’ve read similar stories before, but the execution? Flawless. Their chemistry was undeniable, even as they tried to fight it. What made it even better was how self-aware the characters were.

I also wish we had just one or two more chapters—maybe an epilogue—because a lot happens in the third act, and I wanted to see more of the aftermath.

That being said, everything else was fantastic. Forrest was an incredible MMC, the Alaskan setting was beautifully immersive, and the supporting characters each brought something special to the story. And once again, the writing itself was just so good.

Any Trope But You is a super cute trope-filled romance that had me wanting to book a trip to a remote lodge in Alaska (but only if the caretaker is exactly like Forrest). The dual POV was perfect and the tropes were done in a really fun way that didn’t take itself too seriously. Margot and Forrest’s spicy slow burn romance was so great and I loved both of their characters.

There are also a lot of great messages in this book about finding yourself, healing, and holding out hope for your happily ever after. I would highly recommend this to romance lovers looking for something funny and lighthearted but also emotional and heartwarming.

Any Trope But You by Victoria Lavine is a fun spin on your typical rom-com.

Margot Bradley is a well-known loved romance author who delivers satisfying happily ever afters… inspired by her readers & her dear younger sister Savannah, Margot continues to churn out the best-sellers even after she stops believing in love……. she secretly creates a “Happily Never After” document that gives alternative endings to the happily ever afters in her romance novels. Unfortunately, someone leaks this document and Margot is canceled by her biggest fans.

Savannah has a history of sickness and Margot has devoted her life to being there and making sacrifices to take care of her sister no matter what. Savannah decides to send Margot to Alaska for a 6 week vacation. Savannah writes Margot letters that she can receive weekly after participating in the outdoorsy events of the “resort.” Margot intends to reinvent herself as a murder-mystery author, but she meets a MOUNTAIN DADDY named Forrest who stops her heart in its tracks…

This book is spicy, hilarious, and heartwarming. We get a satisfying DUAL POV from Margot & Forrest… and have some fun adventures with the other guests ;P Margot & Forrest are both self sacrificing to take care of the people who matter most, and the two connect in ways they never intended.

I would highly recommend this book to rom-com lovers - this book was a lot of fun and kept me captivated.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. I look forward to reading more from the author.

Grab your copy once it hits the shelves on April 1st!

I thoroughly enjoyed Any Trope But You and found it to be exceptionally well-written. The descriptions were relatable without feeling overly formal, and the characters were rich in depth and personality, which quickly drew me into their stories. I particularly appreciated how the narrative didn’t focus solely on the romantic relationship between the two main characters, but also highlighted the importance of their loyalty and love for their families. This added a layer of emotional complexity to the story.

The supporting characters were equally well-developed, with vivid descriptions that brought them to life. Savannah's letters, in particular, evoked both laughter and tears, showcasing the author’s skill in creating a heartfelt, engaging narrative.

This book is a charming and delightful read—an absolute must for both die-hard romance fans and those who may have grown disillusioned with the genre. It’s a relatable take on romance that will resonate with readers of all kinds.

In the acknowledgments, the author refers to this book as "a love letter to the romance genre", which nails my feelings on the story.

It's cheesy and over the top, very, very trope-y, but that's the point of this one (as the title implies). Fun, silly, and eye-rolling at times. The writing wasn't as strong as many other rom-coms I've read, but overall, I enjoyed this book.

Publishing April 1, 2025. Check it out!

✨Review - Any Trope But You by @victorialavinewrites

This was such a fun take on the romcom genre. Margot is a romance writer who doesn’t believe in happily ever afters (gasp!) and after a hacker discovers her secret “Happily Never After” file and posts it for all her readers to see, she flees to remote Alaska to reinvent herself my writing a murder mystery.

Upon arrival, however, she meets Forrest, and finds herself living out every romance trope in the book, all while fighting the connection she feels.

Due to the nature of the plot, this one runs the gamut of romcom tropes:

💕 Enemies to lovers
💕 Forced proximity
💕 Damsel in distress
💕 One bed . . . I mean, tent
💕 Swoon-worthy, near-perfect book boyfriend
💕 And I feel like Alaska should be a trope all its own

This book is a phenomenal debut. Fast-paced, creative, nuanced, and immersive - I couldn’t put it down. Oh, and dual POV. 👌

And the way it incorporated mature themes like the weight of being a full-time caretaker for a sick or disabled family member was so well done.

If you’re a romcom fan, this one should definitely be on your radar. It released April 1 (no joke!)

A huge thanks to @simonschusterca @atriabooks and @netgalley for this eARC. All thoughts are my own.

*A couple open door scenes.

⁉️What is your favourite romance trope?

This is a fun RomCom. I loved the Alaska setting and the outdoorsy parts of it! It's also fun how so many different book tropes were included in the story throughout! I liked the characters and the supporting characters too and this was a book I wanted to read quickly, but also wanted it to last longer. There is so much humor I enjoyed, but also lots of heart (and a bit of steam!). I highly recommend it!
