Any Trope but You was a fun book to read. As the title suggests, it's full of romance tropes. It might be a little ridiculous, but the fact that the characters are pointing it out makes it more comedic than cheesy. I really liked both main characters, Margot and Forrest. I thought Margot felt especially real with all her mishaps and really being out of her comfort zone. The relationship that develops brings on a decent amount of spice, so if that's not your thing, you may want to give this one a pass. Plot-wise there wasn't anything all that surprising along the way, but it wasn't something I was expecting either. Bonus points for the great setting in the Alaskan wilderness! It made a nice wintertime read.

Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the advance copy of Any Trope but You! All opinions are completely my own.

This is a phenomenal romance read! A beloved romance writer gets cancelled, and her sister sends her to a remote Alaskan resort to reinvent herself. Upon arriving at the remote resort, she runs smack into the ruggedly handsome resort owner and into her own real life romcom. The romance tropes abound, and are so incredibly woven throughout the story. I mean the one tent and body warming scene?!?!

This is the author’s debut, and I’m already looking forward to her next!

Thank you Atria for the advanced reader’s copy!

Special thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions!

This book follows Margot as she escapes to Alaska after having a private file of alternate endings to her romance novels gets leaked and she is made to be the ultimate villain amongst romance readers. She immediately clashes with Forrest, the Alaskan resort owner's son. As her trip unfolds, so does her dislike to lovers romance with him.

This book's title is very fitting: it had a LOT of tropes in it, which distracted me from the story at times. It was a fun. read, but not a new favorite by any means.

Thank you, Netgalley, for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book! The chemistry between the characters was everything! It was so fun, electric, and full of heart. Victoria Lavine did an incredible job crafting a romance that felt both swoon-worthy and deeply emotional. The banter was top-tier, the tension was perfect, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! I absolutely LOVED Savannah; I hope we see her again in the future. I'm adding Victoria Lavine to my list of automatic read authors!

Thank you, Atria, for Any Trope but You! I absolutely loved this romance. It’s always exciting when an author can make familiar tropes feel fresh, and Victoria Lavine nails it here.

The standout for me was the well-drawn characters—I genuinely connected with Margot, whose edgy yet loving personality made her so engaging. I laughed out loud just from the first chapter, thanks to the sharp writing, witty dialogue, and Margot’s inner monologue. Forestt’s backstory and his growing connection with Margot felt natural and compelling, adding real depth to their dynamic.

The ending was especially well-crafted—satisfying without feeling rushed or cliché, honoring both the characters' journeys and the novel’s broader themes. I’m especially impressed that this is a debut, and I can’t wait to read more from Lavine.

Yes, this book is packed with tropes, but it doesn’t just acknowledge them—it celebrates why we love them. From the classic one-bed scenario to enemies-to-lovers tension, it all builds toward that much-anticipated HEA in a way that feels both familiar and fresh.

What a fun debut! Any Trope but You is a sharp, hilarious love letter to romance itself—both as a genre and as a force shaping how we perceive real-life relationships. Margot and Forrest’s dynamic was endlessly amusing, taking them from enemies to very reluctant (one tent!) allies and eventually to something more. Their banter and chemistry were top notch, and watching them clumsily navigate their feelings towards each other was entertaining as hell.

Beyond the humor and tropes, the novel also dives into deeper themes of family, responsibility, and caretaking, adding layers of emotion that made the story even more impactful. The remote Alaskan setting added some extra charm, making the forced proximity feel cozier and the stakes higher.

Victoria Levine’s fresh, witty voice makes this an irresistible read. I have no doubt she’ll find an adoring audience through this debut!

This was so cute and so fun. I actually laughed out loud a few times. Margot does not believe in love but writes romance books for a living. When her chronically ill sister books for a 6 week stay in Alaska to write a murder mystery she meets Forrest. Their chemistry was genuine. Their banter and ups and downs had me reading late into the night. This book had deeper themes of ill family members and responsibility which made the book impactful. This author knows how to write a romance book. I highly recommend this book!

The premise of Any Trope But You had me hooked from the start. A bestselling romance author, Margot Bradley, finds herself in hot water when her secret Happily Never After file—where she rewrites her book endings to be more realistic—leaks to the public. Her career takes a nosedive, and in an effort to salvage her image, her sister sends her on a “Reinvention” trip to a wilderness resort in Alaska. There, she meets Forrest, a broody, handsome doctor who seems straight out of one of her own romance novels. The attraction is undeniable, but Margot does everything she can to fight it.

This setup had so much potential—an author escaping to the wild to switch genres and reinvent herself? A grumpy, hot doctor in the middle of nowhere? It sounded like the perfect mix of romance, self-discovery, and humor. But unfortunately, my reading experience didn’t quite match my expectations.

Margot was a tough character to connect with. She often came across as rude, entitled, and overly defensive, making it hard to root for her. And in a romance, if you don’t like the main character, the love story itself starts to fall flat. I struggled to see why Forrest was interested in her, especially given how she treated him. Their dynamic lacked the chemistry and emotional depth that I usually love in romance novels.

That being said, the Alaska setting was a definite highlight. The descriptions of the wilderness and resort life added a cozy, atmospheric touch that made me wish I was there. And if you’re looking for steam, this book delivers plenty of it.

Overall, while the concept was intriguing, the execution didn’t fully work for me.

Thank you NetGalley, Atria Books and Victoria Lavine for the ARC!

If you are a romance reader that loves - and loves to poke fun at - tropes, this book is for you. It was a fun read of love lost and found that has me searching flights to Alaska in my other browser tab.

Will definitely be recommending to all my friends to read before the winter ends!

Victoria Lavine's Any Trope but You is one of the most spectacular, hilarious, and romantic debuts I've read. It took me a little less than thirty-six hours to finish it and I'm dying to go back and reread it. Victoria has officially become one of my auto-buy authors!

Margot Bradley is a romance author. Romance authors generally believer in Happily Ever Afters, but not Margot. Margot believes in Happily Never Afters. This belief might have developed after having her heart broken by her former fiancé, though. During a livestream with her readers, her secret belief is exposed and she's effectively canceled by the entire romance community.

Savannah, Margot's chronically-ill sister, takes it upon herself to take Margot's mind off her troubles. Savannah books Margot six weeks in a remote Alaskan resort so she can switch genres and write a murder mystery. Margot shows up at the resort and gets spooked by a moose named Bullwinkle, and jumps into the arms of Dr. Forrest Wakefield, the resort owners's son. As meet-cutes go, this one had me grinning because I knew right then and there, this book was going to make me smile and laugh and probably cry a little,

I loved seeing Margot and Forrest go through one romance trope after another. Any Trope but You has everything I want in a rom-com book--witty banter, comedic moments, heartfelt interactions, and spicy scenes. I'm begging you to pick up a copy on April 1st (no, that's not an April Fools joke).

Thank you so much Atria Books for providing me with an e-ARC!

This is sure to be a major hit! A romance author who doesn't believe in love and is then, of course, thrust into her own love story full of every cliche trope she's written about in the past? It's catnip for romance readers. I loved it.

Thank you for this fun, warm and fuzzy read! The ups and downs for these characters actually had me giggle and tear up! I loved how the physical and technological isolation allowed the Margot and Forrest to be truly focused on each and what truly mattered to them. It makes me want to install a sauna!

Review: "Any Trope But You" by Victoria Levine – ★★★★★

Victoria Levine’s Any Trope But You is an absolute gem that deftly navigates the landscape of rom-com tropes while flipping them on their head in the most delightful way. It’s witty, sharp, spicy, and heartwarming, with characters that jump off the page and a plot that keeps you turning pages long into the night.
The story follows Margot and Forrest, two unlikely protagonists who are forced to work together, and while their banter is electric, it’s the way they grow and evolve that truly takes center stage. Levine cleverly subverts the tropes we’ve all come to expect in romantic comedies, offering something fresh and exciting. The chemistry between the leads is palpable and so well-written that you’ll find yourself rooting for them every step of the way.

What sets this book apart is the author’s ability to blend humor with vulnerability, creating a perfect balance of lighthearted fun and genuine emotional depth. It’s a page-turner with moments that’ll make you laugh out loud and others that’ll tug at your heartstrings.

In short, Any Trope But You is a must-read for anyone who loves romance with a twist. Levine’s voice is unique, engaging, and the perfect antidote to the typical romantic comedy. If you’re looking for a book that feels like a warm hug with a dash of humor and heart, this is it. It’ll have anyone believing in happily ever afters! Five stars all the way!

Thank you to Net Galley and Victoria Lavigne for this ARC. I still can’t believe this is her first book. I’ll definitely be first in line to read all the other ones she creates in the future! Run, don’t walk to add this book to your TBR list!

I can’t believe this is the debut for this author, oh my it is so good!!! I love all of the tropes that were incorporated (they were not done in a heavy handed manner). Plus, I love when the premise of a story is an author writing a novel (the way the writing process works is very interesting to me). I love absolutely everything about the male lead (like yes he is every romance novel character stereotype, but it works).

For a debut (heck, any romance novel) this is a good one.

4.5! It feels dishonest to give a book anything less than a 5 that I literally walked around in public reading because I couldn’t put it down. There were a couple minor complaints and I didn’t love the beginning but let me tell you how much I loved the end. 😭 anyway, Forrest is the best, the tropes are fun, and this is NOT a Christmas book. So go grab it for yourself on April 1 (not a joke) when it publishes. 🥰

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author! The first 50% of the book was not my favorite, in all honesty. It made a cringe a few times and I was not sold on the chemistry between the main characters. A lot of the decisions they made and the way they spoke to each other in the beginning was just not for me. I was disappointed because I really went into the story expecting to love it.

With that being said, the second half of the book redeemed the story for me. I could believe the characters belonged together more. I actually understood what they saw in each other and all the ways they could relate to one another.

I think the story was not what made me like the book, it was the writing. The author has a truly funny voice that keeps you coming back for more. I read several lines in this book that made me stop, highlight, and think because they were so beautiful. The writing is the reason I am so happy to see what Victoria Levine comes up with next. I also was so happy to see how romance readers were described in this story.

Wow! What a debut rom-com from Victoria Levine. I have a deep desire to read a good romance novel but find myself jaded by so many cliched stories that I read. This book literally explores the idea of how HEA (happily ever after) is a fantasy. The author also gives us examples of every type of romance trope and with a little tongue in cheek. Just perfect! The steam of this enemies to lovers is everything I look for in couples goals. There’s a lot of heart in this story within the to main characters who have severe illnesses that their loved ones are suffering. This book is a romance novel that will stay with me. Would have loved an epilogue but I’m not mad about it.
