A book where the main character doesn't believe in happily ever after? Sign me up. I already know this woman is gonna find the type of love we all search for lol.
Margot and Forrest were perfection. I loved that we got dual POV and were able to see both sides! This book threw out every trope I enjoy reading, so I think that is why I loved this so much.
Authors, please, does anyone actually write alternate endings to their books?! Because I want to read them lol.
Rivals to lovers
Forced proximity
Slow burn
Dual POV
Third act breakup
One tent
Family bonds

I loved this book! It was so funny and clever. The characters had great chemistry and I wanted to keep reading about them. Forrest, aka Dr. Mountain Daddy, MD, is officially my new book boyfriend. He is dreamy!
I love that this book had depth and emotions that we all can relate too. How much we would do for someone we love, especially if they needed us medically. And did I mention it was funny?! I laughed out loud at so many parts, from the very beginning. And the spice was spicing!!! So good!
I started reading this as an ARC, thank you Atria Books, and was loving it so much I knew I needed to snag it as soon as I saw Aardvark was offering it in their April Box! Yay for book trophies!
I cannot believe this is a debut novel, she is so talented, immediately added as an auto-buy author!

Okay, this was HELLA CUTE!! 😍 Obviously, as someone who only reads romance, I found it hilarious how Margot (a romance author) keeps using book jargon and points out all the tropes she’s in while experiencing her own love story 📖💘 The way she was basically screaming at the universe like, "Are you kidding me?!" while simultaneously falling hard for him?? PERFECTION.
The storyline was so good!!! Margot leaves California for a secluded lodge in Alaska to write after her scandal where she publicly declares that, as a romance writer, she doesn’t believe in love 😬 And then?? She literally jumps into the arms of the handsome man she’s stuck with for six weeks?? Tell me that doesn’t scream romantic comedy. I’m here for it!!! 🤭💖
The banter, the tension, the flirtatious touches I don’t know what it was, BUT IT WAS ELECTRIFYING🔥 And don’t even get me started on the one tent trope + the "stay close to me" skin-to-skin contact because she’s cold and needs to survive the night 💀 SCREAMING.
Now let’s talk about Forrest the handsome, broody man who, from the moment he sees Margot, you already know he’s gonna fall fast and hard 🥹 And let’s not forget he’s doing EVERYTHING in his power to not give in, even while we read this POV and you see she’s literally all he thinks about?? SWOON Period 😭❤️

This was SO CUTE!!! I loved every second of this!! I loved Margot and Forrest. Their relationship was so sweet and I loved the way they let the other in slowly to their lives. I loved the Alaska setting and this was just all around so great!!

Victoria Lavine’s debut novel, Any Trope but You, offers a heartwarming romance set in a remote Alaskan lodge, featuring a romance novelist and a brooding lodge owner. The book is a love letter to romance tropes, weaving in elements like forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, and the grumpy-sunshine dynamic. The snowy setting and witty banter between the leads add to the charm.

However, while the story is enjoyable, it doesn't venture far beyond the well-trodden paths of the genre. The pacing can feel uneven at times, with some plot points unfolding predictably. Additionally, the character development, though solid, doesn't delve as deeply as some readers might hope.
Overall, Any Trope but You is a delightful read for fans of cozy romances and familiar tropes, but it may not offer much new for those seeking more depth or innovation in the genre.

Thank you to @atriabooks & @victorialavinewrites for the free #gifted copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: I absolutely loved this debut novel by Victoria Lavine! It has so many great side characters. Loved the diversity and quirkiness of them all. This book is loaded with banter that had me laughing throughout. Cannot wait to read more by this author!

Okay, I had so much fun with this one!!
From the premise alone, I knew this was going to be a book made for romance readers — the inside jokes about tropes, the playful banter, and the self-aware humor about romance clichés had me grinning from chapter one. Victoria Lavine really nailed the meta-romcom vibe here.
I loved how effortlessly the chemistry built between the leads. The banter? Chef’s kiss. The friends-to-lovers (ish) slow burn was done so well, and the way they poked fun at classic romance tropes while simultaneously falling right into them was exactly the kind of chaotic, feel-good energy I was craving.
Was it a little predictable at times? Sure. But honestly — that felt like part of the charm. It leaned in without feeling cringey, and it made me want to root for these characters so bad.
The spice was solid — maybe a 2.5/5 on the pepper scale for me. Nothing too over the top, but enough to keep it swoony.
The only thing keeping this from a 5-star for me was that some of the emotional beats didn’t land as hard as I wanted them to. A couple of conflicts resolved a bit too quickly, and I would’ve loved just a little more depth in those moments. Still, the humor, heart, and pure joy factor made up for it.
If you’re a romance reader who loves tropey chaos in the best way — this one’s for you.

Thank you Atria Books and NetGalley for sending me this advanced reader copy of Any Trope But You! This was the ultimate romance book full of all the tropes! It was predictable and corny, but that’s what I LOVED about it! Sometime you just need a HEA to make you feel good!
I loved the concept of Margot being a romance author who doesn’t believe in romance, only to be exposed on a livestream that she writes alternate Happy Never Afters for all her books. This is all about Margot’s journey of self discovery in remote Alaska. (With a side of spice!)
I definitely recommend if you want to have a quick and swoony read!

I absolutely loved this book! I’m a romance reader til I die and this one genuinely hit the spot. I liked the dual POV and that both M and F main characters were working through struggles beyond just their relationship together. The letters the sister writes to the female main character were everything and made me so emotional and always wanting and hoping for more in the next one. Would strongly recommend this book!

Who doesn’t love a book set in Alaska with a big burly lumberjack with a soft heart as the male love interest? Some could easily say that this book is cheesy by how many tropes the author squeezes into it, but I’m on the other side of that and found the obvious calling out of these to be quite funny. I always appreciate some heavier themes in my romance books, and this one delivers on that while still making it a “feel good” read. The characters felt very well developed and stuck to their values and faults, while still having growth by the end. Yes, there were still flaws that made this book somewhat unbelievable, but I was happy to suspend disbelief to get lost in the wilderness with Margot and Forrest.

Any Trope But You by Victoria Lavine
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Romance author who doesn’t believe in love meets cute grumpy mountain man in this adorable romcom. I really enjoyed this story, the banter was hilarious and characters development was well written.

'Any Trope but You' by Victoria Lavine is a fun, rom com with well developed characters. I always enjoy when a romance novel breaks the 4th wall to acknowledge tropes and industry stereotypes. I think having the FMC be a romance author who got "cancelled" is a fun way of carrying on that story telling mechanism.
I thought Lavine did a good job of creating characters whose motivations were relatable and moved the plot forward. Above all, they were likable and funny.
Thank you to Victoria Lavine and Atria books for the ARC of 'Any Trope but You' in exchange for an honest review.

Such a clever, clever book! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance reader copy. I also purchased and enjoyed the wonderfully narrated audio book.

This is cute, spicy, and has every marking of a great rom-com! If you like Emily Henry and Abby Jimenez, you will love this!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a fun concept and I enjoyed all of the different tropes. The characters bothered me though and the "enemies" seemed forced. 3 stars

Sadly I just couldn’t get on board with this because I found the FMC to be so insufferable and insulting. She’s very elitist and her attitude just rubbed me the wrong way. The daddy drama doesn’t excuse it and I think the MMC let her off way too easily.

Margot Bradley is a romance novelist who no longer believes in love. During an interview, someone found her "Happily Never After" files and everyone dislikes her. Her sister sends her to Alaska, where Margot tries to reinvent herself as a murder-mystery writer.
There, she meets Forrest Wakefield, the grumpy yet charming caretaker, and the two find themselves entangled in every romantic trope imaginable. The banter between them is so fun to read.

#NetGalley.

The premise of this book was a lot of fun, a romance writer who is pretending for her readers because she is romanced out. The banter is top notch and had me giggling along. For me the issue was the book felt like it took every minor inconvenience for the characters and laid it on so thick it made it hard to connect with the story as something real. In a sense it was too overly dramatic making it hard to really connect. Margot and Forrest were written in a way that made them too unbelievable to me making it hard to really love them and I want to love my romance characters!
3.5 stars.

I stayed up well past my bedtime to read this. I couldn't put it down!
Margot snags every romance trope possible when she is sent to Alaska after a falling out with her readers. Forrest, hot-Dr.-in-flannel, is grumpy and stand-offish from their first interaction. The sexual tension between these two was incredible, with a side of sarcasm and humor. Happily Never After meet Happily EVER After!

My favorite part of the book was the last 25% because it’s where I felt the most emotion and connection to the characters. The story comes together and wraps up perfectly into the lesson the author was trying to give the reader. I would absolutely recommend this to any romance reader looking for a lighthearted (hallmark movie / porno vibes) as mentioned in the book. It was a great mixture of sweet and spicy and a whole lot of self reflection.
