This a book about a romance novel author who doesn’t really believe in love or happy endings. When her readers find out, there is a chance her career is over. So her sister convinces her to take a trip to the wilds of Alaska. While there, she meets a man who meets the standards of every possible romance trope there is.
I highly recommend this book. It is absolutely adorable. It is humorous and entertaining to the very end.
Thank you to Victoria Lavigne and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.

im gonna be honest, i don't remember why i rater this the way i did, but i do remember being disappointed by how a lot of the plot was executed. it was hard to root for the characters and i didn't believe that they were falling in love

I never thought I’d want to go to Alaska, but this book had me contemplating it. I enjoy books where a character doesn’t believe in love, its usually the mmc but I liked that it was the fmc. Margot really didn’t expect to ever find love and Forrest was so perfectly her match.

I decided to save this book for when it was really cold here, and it set the mood perfectly. Margot is a romance novelist who just got outed as a cynical love hater. To regroup, her sister Savannah sends her to Alaska to work on a new novel. She immediately runs into the arms of dreamy Forrest, who works at the retreat.
Margot and Forrest had chemistry from the start and they had plenty of issues to work through. The book deals with heavy topics and I feel like the author handled it so well and I love how she tied everything up at the end.
Thanks to NetGalley as always for the ARC.

Heartfelt, comedic, and spicy - everything we want in a rom-com!
A romance writer (who doesn't believe in love) escapes to Alaska to try her hand at writing a new genre and just so happens to fall for Mr. Perfect along the way. A fresh take on all the romance tropes we know and love. Her writing is witty, the banter was top tier, and the characters kept me locked in!

I loved this debut by Victoria Lavine! This was such a joy to read and a perfect love letter to the romance genre. I couldn’t put it down!

What romance author doesn’t wanna live out their own romance trope?? Margot the MC does of course!
This book had everything I love in a rom com because it was swoony and sometimes steamy romance and I also chuckled my way through this book. I loooooved Margot and Forrest together and I loved their love for their family.
Thank you Atria and NetGalley for my eARC!

"I learned the hard way that in this bleak swipe-left world, romance novels give hope to the hopeless. They make you believe that a sensitive, multilingual, insanely jacked doctor named Hunter is just waiting in the wings of your life, ready to laugh with you about all the toads you dated while cuddling after your nightly synchronized orgasms."
This was a delightful ode to romance novels. It lovingly pokes fun at tropes and how they bring comfort to so many by hitting on some of the best ones: the meet-cute, the enemies-to-friends-to-lovers pipeline, the only-one-tent, the secret heart of gold. It points out how outlandish and how wonderful romance novels are and how outlandish and wonderful romance is in general. I appreciated that it wasn't lust to love, there was a level of getting to know each other too.
Honestly, my only hang-up is that I don't think we as romance readers would cancel an author for having a Happily Never After document! Maybe it's just me, but I would LOVE to see some authors write that. I would really enjoy seeing MMCs with male-patterned baldness, medication for erectile dysfunction, or even just the use of lube. I would love to see amicable exes and co-parenting woes. Victoria Lavine, drop your HNA doc for Forrest and Margot. I would be super intrigued.

What a great debut by Victoria Lavine! Margot is a successful romance writer who doesn't believe in the Happily Ever After. After her "real" novel endings are hacked and exposed during a live Zoom event, she's promptly cancelled and sent to a remote Alaskan resort by her sister to regroup & try her hand at writing a murder mystery. But her escape from romance is halted when she meets Forrest, the resort over-seer who is every romance book's MC dream--a doctor who has come home to care for his ailing father, who splits wood, cooks, and is Mr. Fix It.
These two definitely embody the grumpy sunshine trope and try to avoid one another while Margot pursues her writing and is pushed by her chronically ill sister to step out of her comfort zone and participate in the weekly expeditions offered by the resort. In exchange, Forrest will give her a letter from her sister after she completes each challenge. Soon, every romance trope is happening from the there's only one tent to being snowed in, and it's such a fun ride watching these two fall for one another while still grappling with family members' major medical issues and guilt over wanting to be there for them while still living their own lives. My only gripe was the side plot of jealousy between another younger resort visitor (who is also vying for Margot's affections) and Forrest. I understand that it's a plot device, but Ollie seemed so flippant and boyish that I never dreamed it was a real possibility for him and Margot to hook up, even it was just a vacation fling.
This was super cute & funny, and I loved the Alaska setting and the moose! Can't wait to see what else Lavine comes up with! This is out in April of 2025.
Thank you to Netgalley and Atria for the e-ARC.

Any Trope But You by Victoria Lavine was easily the best book I read in 2024 - which is ironic since it doesn't come out until April 2025. Lavine had me laughing one second and straight up crying within a few paragraphs. In a book that, as a concept, could have gone off the rails at any given time, Lavine strikes an amazing balance between cheesy, witty, and heartfelt - not to mention tension that will leave you panting and some of the best spicy scenes I've read in quite some time. I usually find myself annoyed at slow burns, but I honestly couldn't be mad with this one because it was done so well.
Thank you to Atria Books NetGalley for the eARC.

I really enjoyed this rom-com. I love that it took place in Alaska and definitely laughed out loud a handful of times (and only cringed once or twice from secondhand embarrassment). There was so much emotion mixed in with funny mishaps and beautiful scenery, plus a lot of character growth and so many great tropes! This is not a Hallmark-type romance, but all the tropes are there anyway and I was there for it. Overall, a solid romance read.
Fans of Emily Henry, Sarah Morgenthaler, or Sarah Adams will love this!

This is such a fun book! I could not put it down. The chemistry between Margot and Forrest is fantastic, and the way the novel discusses romance tropes is clever. Since this is a debut novel, I am excited to see what else Victoria Lavine has in store for readers!

Margot + Forrest
Margot is a best-selling romance author who doesn't believe in Happily Ever Afters-she has been stung too much in her life romantically and otherwise. After a major career flop, Margot's sister sends her off to a 6-week retreat up in the middle-of-nowhere Alaska where she meets the king of all tropes, Forrest. Forrest is helping his father run the resort while also nursing him back to help. But when I say nurse, I mean, doctor, and when I say doctor, I mean research oncologist?! hello?! could he get any smarter? Anyways--he is resistant to fall in love from stings he has had in the past as well as a sense of duty to his family that he must put them and the family business first..

This book was so good! This was a cute "on-the-nose" way of addressing cliche romance novel tropes and felt like the author was letting us in on the joke. I thought the writing was hilarious and the romance was swoony and spicy! I felt like we got a good sense of both FMC and MMC in this story and felt for both sides and their struggles. Their romance starts off with a light enemies-to-lovers vibe and they meet in the middle and understand each other more than anyone else has previously. I loved the snowed-in setting and I thought the ending was great! It did not feel rushed, the author took her time getting there, in the best way.

I could not put this book down! There is so much to be said about this book and I'll start with how great the intro scene is. I was captivated and laughing out loud withing the first 10 minutes. Our story follows a brilliant romance writer named Margot Bradley in L.A. Never having the HEA experience herself, she feels the imposter syndrome in her writing. After an incident that leaves her audience confused and Margot on the brink of being canceled, she follows her heart's desire to write in a book in different genre in Alaska.
Enters the wonderful male MC, Forrest Wakefield, and he's perfect! He is the ideal MMC that not even Margot could've written more flawlessly. He is a breast cancer research doctor. Swoon. He's in Alaska to help after his dad's accident. The story heats up while we every romance trope is explored between the couple.
It is so fun and incredible to read. Thank you to netgalley and publishers for this opportunity to read and review this eARC. All opinions are my own.

When Margot’s sister sends her to Alaska, the last thing she expects is to find love. But then she meets a man who is so perfect that she could have written him into existence. But is he too good to be true?
“Any Trope But You” is funny, sweet, and spicy. I didn’t want to put it down!
Thank you to Atria Publishing who provided this ARC on Net Galley in exchange for my honest review. Opinions are my own.

This was a really cute romance, I loved all the inside jokes about romance novels. It's also steamy, but in a romantic way. I like when the sexy scene are hot but sweet.

Any Trope but You is a story that feels as cozy as a snowfall but brimming with emotion and charm. The winter setting sets the tone beautifully, giving the book a fresh atmosphere that stands apart from the usual romance fare. It took me a little time to settle into the story, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down.
What truly stood out were Savannah’s letters to Margot. As a lover of letters, these moments felt like pure magic. They revealed so much about their bond as sisters, capturing their love and support for one another in such a genuine way. Their relationship brought so much heart to the story and made it feel even more special.
And then there’s the romance. Margot and Forrest’s enemies-to-lovers dynamic was everything you could want—fiery, fun, and full of irresistible chemistry. Their banter was sharp and engaging, and watching their walls come down as they got closer was deeply satisfying.
Overall, Any Trope but You is a sweet and heartfelt read, perfect for fans of strong sibling bonds, crackling romantic tension, and the magic of a wintry setting. It’s a book that will leave you smiling and warm inside.

Absolutely spectacular! I couldn’t put this down. Forrest and Margot are characters I won’t forget. I can’t wait for other readers to get their hands on this book!

Full disclosure, I loved this book. I empathized greatly with Margot, a popular romance writer, when she suffered the consequences of having her disbelief of a happily after brought to light. Her fans and the public are aghast, and she finds herself in a remote Alaska lodge where she meets Forrest, the handsome man who should be on the cover of a romance novel himself. This makes Margot even more skeptical, but the sparks cannot help but fly. This is truly a heartwarming romance that ticks all the boxes.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria books for the advance copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC of this book.
This book follows Margot who is a romance author but when her file of “Happily Never Afters” gets released to the public her fans are not too happy. Her sister books her a trip to Alaska to get away from it all. Literally. This lodge is in the middle of nowhere and has no internet. She ends up going on a journey where she rediscovers herself and finds maybe true love does exist.
I very much enjoyed this read and would highly recommend.
