4.5 stars! This book was so cute and spicy. But it had depth. Each characters back story and what they had in common really drove this story home. When characters are the only two to really see each other, in all their beautiful messes… Man, is that what I want to read. I think true romance comes from being able to be raw with someone and this book really captured that. Neither of the main characters were perfect and at multiple times in the book you want to shove them face first into the snow… but that’s what makes it real. I loved that this was about a romance author who stopped believing in HEAs, because that moment has happened to every one of us. I like to think that’s what brings us to romance… to hope in spite of it all, even when there’s been a million reasons to never hope again. This genre is always there to really hold space for you, and that was really what this whole book was about.
You know I am a sucker for a writer being one of the main characters… so we knew a 4+ star was coming from me.
Margot is a romance writer who ends up getting cancelled after her happy never after file gets leaked to all of her fans in a live interview. Suddenly the queen of romance gets outed as the one person who doesn’t believe in HEAs. In her attempt to lick her wounds, her sister sends her to Alaska to write her next great novel… This is where mountain Daddy Forrest comes in. From their meet cute to every trope she is trying to avoid, Margot realizes that sometimes when you least expect it, the romance of your dreams can change your mind. This is heartfelt, it’s funny, the banter really banters… and you understand that sometimes when we think we are caring for everyone in our life, it sometimes looks a bit like hiding from living our own.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria books for the ARC… It was gorgeous.

This was so cute! I am so excited for this sweet and fun winter wonderland romance. I was worried about the overuse of tropes and the "TikTok-ification" of this romance novel in particular, but I think the author walked the line between plot and trope very well. This was a lot of fun, and I would definitely recommend this to my friends.

A romance book set in Alaska?? Yes please! The romance was so sweet and I felt that the buildup was done well. This was so cute!!

Margot is a romance writer who doesn’t believe in Happy Ever Afters. After her career and life implode she retreats to remote Alaska to hide but comes face to face with the question, can she overcome her cynicism and past heartbreaks and just trust in love and happy endings? Such an enjoyable read! All fans of romance novels will feel seen in this debut novel “Any Trope but you”. As the title suggests the protagonist Margot experiences every romance trope in the book but the depth of the her character, sharp sarcasm, and internal dialogue keeps this from going too cliche. This book was so enticing, great pacing throughout and plenty of steamy moments that made it impossible to put down! My only criticism is the use of the word “sweetheart” in the intimate moments, it felt really forced, gave me the ick, and took me out of the scene entirely. Even still, I read this in one sitting and was hooked, hopeful like all true romance fans that Margot would find her HAE…but no spoilers you'll have to read it for yourself to find out how this one ends.

3 stars- perfect book to read cozy snuggled in blankets. perfect amount of romance, plot lines, steaminess. this would be perfect for a netflix adaptation. thanks netgalley & the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know why, but I am always going to love any book about Alaska. I've never been there but for some reason love books about it. I loved Margot, I can identify with her. Good, quick read. Definitely recommend!

This one's for the romance readers! Every sweet, swoony trope with the best comic relief! This book talks a lot about dependency, parent illness, cancer, abandonment, and shining a light on disabilities. However, even though we have these heavy topics, we get to watch Forest and Margot heal through laugh out loud moments, winter adventures, and falling in love! It has great steamy momemts and the cutest cast of characters. Every Trope But You is the perfect winter read for people who do and don't believe in Happily Ever Afters!

Thanks to NetGalley, Atria Books, and Simon and Schuster for this copy of "Any Trope But You."
So this is my last book featuring snow before Christmas (not a holiday rom-com, but close). And what an entertaining, hilarious, pulls-at-your-heart-strings book from debut author Lavine.
Margot is a best-selling romance author who has become cynical about love and HEA's (Happy Ever Afters). Her NNA (Happy Never Afters) file where she's written alternate endings for her books gets leaked.
Margot is also caretaker for his sister Savannah (more on her later) who sends Margot to a retreat in Alaska to recoup, reinvent, and write her next book - a murder mystery.
Of course she'll meet heart-throbby Forrest who is too good to be true and they keep finding themselves in romance trope after trope after trope.
So about Savannah- I'd love for her to have her own book - she's a wonderful character! I wanted more of her letters to Margot ("Stay safe, but not too safe.") Maybe we can convince author Lavine!

Victoria Lavine is one of my new favourite romance authors! Margot and Forrest’s story was so wholesome, filled with funny banter, and nice n spicy. Extra points for the Alaska setting!!! 🤍🩵🤍

Omg what a read, the rightful balance of emotions, drama, comedy, and romance all in one. A book of tropes within tropes itself running parallel to the story is a hilariously self aware touch. I found myself relating to both mains especially Margot, weve all been there, work through the proper emotions and life situations to achieve peace, love and a renewed look on things. Proud to have read this one. Two characters who initially misunderstood each and gradually understand life and each other.
One word chemistry!

Witty, full of tension, spicy and tons of banter. Literally what more do you want! The Alaska setting makes it a great wintery read

Wow, right at the end of the year, I’ve discovered my favorite romance of the year! My only disappointment is that this is a debut novel, and I can't immediately dive into more works by this author. It's truly impressive that this is a debut, and I can't wait to see where this author goes from here.
I absolutely loved both of the main characters, Forrest and Margot. They were endearing yet flawed, and their backstory felt raw and authentic. It was easy to understand why Margot is jaded by love and men; her experiences were relatable, making me empathize deeply with her character. The atmosphere of the book was also beautifully crafted. I adored the setting of the rustic lodge, surrounded by snow and disconnected from the outside world.
While I might have rolled my eyes at the number of tropes present in the story, the author is very self-aware and leans into them, putting refreshing twists on the common clichés.
I highly recommend this book to all romance readers. This author is truly something special, and I’m grateful for her bringing this story into our world. ❤️
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for this advanced reader copy. My review is voluntarily my own.

I absolutely adored this and can't believe it's a debut (?!!!?!). I love the characters, I love the meta-ness of confronting romance tropes in a romance novel, I love the setting, and I love all the supporting characters. This was the kind of book that's hard to put down, and I can't wait to read what Victoria Lavine writes next.

This was okayyyy. I feel like the Alaska setting was cute and I liked the love triangle with Ollie. But honestly the whole HEA, trope, rom com author theme was a bit cringe to me. There were a few laugh out loud bits though that I enjoyed.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy!
Take any Hallmark moving involving a city girl being sent to the middle of nowhere for a retreat and falling for the big, strong lumberjack and you get the most basic of romance tropes.
And with that premise add a ton of sass and self-awareness, beautiful banter, and smut and you get this book.
It’s a perfect recipe for a great romance book.
Margot is a famous romance author whose secret is that she doesn’t believe in lasting love or happily ever afters, especially after her fiancé left her. She instead created a Happily Never After document where she writes the reality of most of her characters relationships - cheating, divorce, and general unhappiness.
When this document gets leaked to the public, her fans feel betrayed and they cancel her.
Margot’s sister decides to book a retreat for her in the middle of nowhere Alaska so that Margot can get out of her slump and start writing again.
And of course Margot runs headfirst (and jumps into the arms) of a strapping man (Forrest) who helps run the lodge she’s staying at.
And Forrest isn’t just a hot lumberjack chopping wood. He’s also a doctor, a cancer researcher, and an extremely kind and caring person. And that pisses Margot off more than anything.
This book serves up:
- dual POV
- Being hilariously self aware of the tropes it’s giving
- Chronic pain/illness representations
- Excellent banter
- Excellent smut
- Only one tent

Wow!! An amazing debut novel for this author!! Congrats!!! I freaking ate this book up.
I laughed and I cried. I cried a lot of sad tears and happy tears!!
I couldn’t put this one down. A best selling romance author has her world basically collapse on her when she gets cancelled. Her sister books her a getaway to a very remote location in Alaska to work on a new manuscript in a different genre to try to rebrand herself.
Little does she know her thoughts of HNE are about to whither away.
This book as all the tropes!! And I loved it. I loved the FMC and MMC and loved the dual POV!
I’m super excited to see what more this author will give us in the future!!
Thank you NetGalley and Atria for the advanced copy for my honest review!

I am blown away by Victoria Lavine's work. The beginning was so fun; I was blushing and giggling every chapter. The story felt very meta and like an homage to the romance genre with the FMC knowingly being hit with so many tropes. And then the story progresses to a deeper and more substantive connection between the 2 main characters that gave a warm glow to the reading experience.
Thank you Atria Books and NetGalley for providing me with an Advanced Reader Copy of this novel.

This was an absolutely BRILLIANT debut novel. The plot was interesting and unique, the writing was beautiful, and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. It was funny, and witty, and I truly felt like I was in Alaska with them! Definitely will be in my top 5 reads of 2024. FANTASTIC.

This book was just so dang cute! When the title mentions ‘any trope but you,’ it means we’re going to mention ALL the tropes and this perfect guy (who is too good to be true) is going to embody ALL of them! The banter in this book is spectacular, whether it be between the characters or even their own inner monologue. I loved Margot, and even though I felt she might have made some better decisions a few times, it was understandable why she did what she did. Forrest was *chef’s kiss* and we would all like one of him, please and thank you. The only thing in this book that was typical was the third act. We all know what happens there, but it still unfolded well. Victoria has written a spectacular debut, and I believe she will be writing more once this one hits the market and takes off.

Margot is a romance author who’s had her fair share of heartbreak. She normally writes happily ever afters but since her fiancé called off their wedding, she started writing alternate ending to her books that were happily never afters. Her HNAs get leaked by a hacker and her fans question every book she’s ever written. Margot’s sister, Savannah, does damage control by setting up Margot on a 6 week, no internet lodge stay in Alaska to gather inspiration on a murder-mystery book.
Margot meets Forrest who works at the lodge and is basically all the perfect parts of every man she’s ever written into a romance novel. There’s enemies to lovers, one tent/one sleeping bag, open door romance, cozy cabin vibes, snow storm, they both have a relatable situation that they feel connected over, & there were so many funny moments. I was laughing and giddy throughout most of the book.
Thank you Atria books and NetGalley for this ARC.
