I was so happy to continue the adventures of Eleanor and her sister, Harper and the murder and mayhem that surround them. In this episode, Eleanor's best friend Emma is having a surprise wedding on Catalina Island following the filming of the movie about Eleanor's last book and to her co-star in that film. Most of the characters from the prior book are included in some way due to the movie of their earlier escapades and murder follows. While the book is a bit convoluted at the beginning with having to track the story of a story within a story and the movie inside that story (see what I mean) it does get its feet under it and take off int he second half. I both read and listened to this title and would recommend both. It was easier to read at times with the script pages and other characters monologues thrown in, but then again was easier to listen to as the footnotes flow more evenly in the audio version and the narrator is delightful. Thank you to St. Martin's Press, Minotaur, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the early access to both in exchange for my honest opinion.

Cute, funny, and full of the cast of characters from the first book. That said, while I really enjoyed the first book, this one was just fine. The plot line just didn't move along as well. Not my favorite followup, but I'm still hopeful for the next!

After the filming wrap of Eleanor’s book adaptation, her best friend and star of the movie Emma is set to marry her co-star Fred. But when threatening notes start arriving and near-miss murder attempts start to derail the festivities, Eleanor must try to figure out what’s going on before someone (else) ends up dead. This has all the witty banter and comic relief of the first book in the series, and I enjoyed it just as much! It did get a little confusing as to who was plotting against whom for what reason, but I had a blast, and I look forward to the next book!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for my copy! ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book and having the author talk directly to you. Reading on my Kindle, I could access the footnotes as they occurred in the text so they were easy to follow and often very humorous. Since I read the first book, I knew many of the characters in this sequel but I did not feel the new characters had much character development. I was surprised by the ending/murderer but will not reveal that here. I had a few ideas of my own but they were debunked in the end. This book is a fun, light read despite the murders. It would help to read the first novel before diving into this one. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I was so dissapointed with this book. First off, I was so confused by all the characters and the inferences to things that happened in the first book that I dont think I could absorb everyones role in this one. This is definitely not a stand alone book so if your going to read it do yourself a favor and read the first. Also the author does not do a good job of making you feel anything for the characters so I could have cared less what happened to any of them. Everything felt rushed. Even her acknowledgment said “Another book done” like shes rushing through them. The murders were super underwhelming, I never felt suspenseful. Just disappointed

This was a fun ride! Exactly the silly murder mystery I needed. I loved Eleanor Dash in book 1 of the series and the sequel was even better. Her character is funny, goofy, and determined. I really enjoyed it! Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the eARC.

I enjoyed this sequel to Everytime I Go on Vacation Someone Dies - I love the breaking of the fourth wall + footnotes and the narrator's voice. I expect a lot of red herrings and "we solved it" while being wrong in this type of book and that is what we got. I will definitely continue to read this series and look forward to the next installment. It's a great series to bust a reading slump and have a fun, quick read!

Eleanor’s book, When In Rome, has been made into a movie. No One Was Supposed to Die at This Wedding follows the movie cast as they gather for the wedding of the two lead actors on Catalina Island. They are stuck on the island for a weekend when a storm moves in and a body is found.
I liked having Eleanor, Harper, Oliver and even Conner back together in the same place, but we didn’t get as much personal life development during this book as we did in the first one. Breaking of the 4th Wall and Eleanor talking directly to the reader was still fun for me. Reading this physically did make reading the footnotes a bit clunky, so I switched to the audio and that might have been my biggest problem. Something about the way Elizabeth Evans narrates this series really grates on me. Her voices have a snooty air to them. The audiobook does make following the footnotes easier because she reads them throughout. I’m not sure if I’ll continue in this series. I’ll probably wait for reviews on the third book before deciding.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun, cozy mystery! Itis the second book with Eleanor and this time the murder takes place at her best friends wedding! If you enjoy a fun cozy, mystery give this one try!

A murder mystery with a wedding, a storm, a film crew, and just enough chaos to keep you turning the pages.
Attending your best friend's wedding should be a relaxing break, but not for Eleanor Dash, bestselling author and reluctant amateur sleuth. With a storm closing in on the Island and a cryptic death threat delivered before the vows, things go from festive to fatal in no time.
This book is pure entertainment—clever, funny, and full of heart. Eleanor is a delightfully sharp and self-aware protagonist, balancing loyalty to her best friend with the mounting pressure of another murder mystery landing squarely in her lap. The layers of tension between Eleanor and her ex, between the cast and crew, and the ticking-clock of the wedding day—make for a satisfying puzzle with plenty of red herrings.
What I loved most was how meta it felt: a mystery author caught in a real-life mystery, surrounded by actors playing her characters. It’s smartly done without ever becoming too self-indulgent.
If you love cozy mysteries with witty banter, romantic entanglements, and high-stakes whodunits, this one’s a must-read.

This was fun. It wasn't quite what I was hoping for and it fell flat in some ways through the "suspenseful" moments. If there are more in the series, I will read them as they are an easy and cozy mystery read. I will admit the Taylor Swift references got a little old (and I am a huge Taylor Swift fan).

I absolutely love this series! It’s such a fun ride, with writing that’s delightfully quippy and full of joy. While this installment didn’t hit quite as hard for me as Book 1, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read. I had a great time with it and will definitely be continuing the series!
Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press - Minotaur Books for the ARC!!!

Eleanor is back for another round of solving murders. This time at her best friend’s wedding! I really enjoy the light heartedness of these books even though they are full of murder. I like the idea of the footnotes, but it is hard to remember at the end of the chapter where they all were or what they are in reference to. I think I want to try the audio version for the next book because I’ve heard great things about it. I do think sometimes there are a few too many characters because you don’t get to know them very well. Although that does help to keep you on your toes about who is the killer.
Thanks NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur books for a copy of this book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Read if you like:
👰🏼♀️ 1st person POV
👰🏼♀️ single POV
👰🏼♀️ single timeline
👰🏼♀️ island murder setting
👰🏼♀️ LOTS of characters
I really liked the idea of the footnotes, however since I read them as an e-book the notes were just thrown all together at the end of the chapter, and since I wasn’t going to flip back and forth for every note, they were kind of pointless as I didn’t even remember what they were talking about by the time I got to them.
I really enjoyed the chapter titles!!! No one ever does that in adult books 😥 and it really brought me back to reading books as a child when they pretty much always had chapter titles 🩷🩷
I really liked the tone of this book! It was sarcastic and humorous and I definitely laughed out loud more than once 🤣
I always love when a book includes multiple storytelling formats! This one is part script/part storytelling/part news reports. It makes the story so much more enjoyable to read! It also makes me feel like the author went above and beyond to come up with all these little fun side-details.
The tough thing about having a lot of characters is that sometimes I get confused about who is who, and unfortunately that was the case for this one.
I know they always say “don’t judge a book based off its cover” but I do 🤪🤪 and this cover drew me right in!
I absolutely loved the descriptions in here!! I could literally taste the food and see the scene everything was painted so perfectly 🩷
Thank you so much to St Martin’s Press and Catherine Mack for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review 🩷💜

Eleanor Nash, a mystery writer, used her own adventures in Italy as the basis of her last bestseller. Movie rights were purchased and her best friend Emma starred as the character based on El. Fred Winter, an award winning actor, played Connor, her love interest. By the time the last scenes were filmed, Emma and Fred were engaged and a wedding was planned on Catalina. Not everyone was happy with the engagement. Emma began receiving threatening messages and asked El to investigate. As the cast and crew travel to the island to celebrate, Mother Nature is also planning an event as a hurricane heads to the island. Pre-nups have been signed, wills have been changed and Emma is in love. El, however, has misgivings about the whirlwind relationship. The real Connor that Fred’s character was based on also arrives on the island to investigate the groom. He owes a substantial amount of money to the producer for a previous movie that bombed. El is accompanied by Harper, her sister and assistant, and Oliver, her boyfriend. Both El and Harper have had relationships with Connor in the past and his presence complicates everything. A change in the scheduled events to include a murder mystery, an attempted electrocution in a hot tub and a sabotaged rope course leads up to the discovery of the first body. El may write murder mysteries, but does that make her qualified to solve a real murder, especially one threatening her best friend? She is dealing with suspects who are used to hiding behind the roles they play. Further murders offer El and Oliver the clues they need to finally find a solution. Just when you believe that the guilty have finally been arrested, Catherine Mack throws in one more big twist that you will never see coming. She also sets the scene for El, Harper and Oliver to return and I can not wait to see where she takes them in their next adventure. I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin - Minotaur for providing this book.

Eleanor is invited to her friend's wedding and believes she's just here to enjoy the wedding, but that is not the case. Emma Wood is Eleanor's long-time best friend and the star of a movie based on Eleanor's book When in Rome. Emma is marrying her co-star Fred Winters a major movie star. When filming wrapped for When in Rome Emma and Fred decided to invite the entire cast and crew to the wedding and Eleanor gets a note saying that "someone will die at the wedding" and is up to Eleanor and her friends to figure out how to stop this event from occurring.
I thought this book was a lot of fun. It was nice to see some of the characters we met in the previous book like Eleanor and her sister. I also love that the POV in this book is Eleanor. I think Eleanor is funny and witty and a lot of the footnotes with her inner thoughts show a bit more of her personality. I could guess where the plot was going before I finished reading the book, but the banter and the dynamics between the characters kept me engaged from beginning to end.
Thank you Net Galley and St. Martins Press for an advance reader copy of this book.

Catherine Mack is back with the sequel to "Everytime I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies" and it's almost as much fun as the original. I will admit that I started reading the ARC ebook from NetGalley and had a very difficult time. The footnotes (her signature) were at the end of each chapter and I had too much trouble going back and forth, so I waited for the release and listened to the audiobook, where the footnotes are read along with the story. Was a much better experience. She says you don't have to read the footnotes to enjoy the story, but they are so much fun and add layers to the tale.
I feel like this book was a bit of a sophomore slump and didn't have quite the same appeal as the first book, but these characters and the new mystery were still a lot of fun and I enjoyed the book overall. Solid 3 1/2 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

I received this book on both audiobook and paper, I thought the book started a bit slow, but then picked up once the scene was set. If you liked Only Murders in the Building, you will like this book. It’s action packed and kept me on my toes. The entire time I thought I had the plot figured out but I was wrong every time. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a book that is suspenseful and engaging.

Thank you for letting me read this book early in exchange for an honest review I really enjoyed this book and review is linked below

This was a fun dip back into the world of the Dash sisters. El and Harper on yet another vacation turned adventure that finds more than one person dead before it's all ironed out. I think if I were them, I'd hunker down at home and never go anywhere...but then how would we have another story?
The silly footnotes are back in all their glory, just as they were in "Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies". I read this on an e-reader so I don't know if I'd love them as much if I couldn't click to see what little interjection El had for us in that moment, but for me they add just a little tongue-in-cheek fun to the story.
I love that many of the characters from the first book make an appearance in this one, plus we meet some new pals as well. Can't wait to see what Catherine Mack has up her sleeve next!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books, and NetGalley for allowing me access to this ARC!
