Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. I really enjoy this series and this latest installment did not disappoint! I like the unique twist the author uses on the time travel genre and that this book uses a unique setting (country vs city) to move the story along. The character development was good and makes me anxious for the next book in the series.

I admit to being at a disadvantage reading Death at a Highland Wedding. This novel is book 4 of the Rip Through Time series, written by Kelley Armstrong, and it was the first book that I have read in this series. I appreciated the brief explanation at the beginning of the novel, which helped to set up the background of the characters and time. However, even with that brief setup, I was still a bit unclear on who was who and what was happening. I enjoyed Death at a Highland Wedding very much, but I found myself wishing that I had read the previous novels 1-3 in this series.
Although I was at a disadvantage beginning to read Death at a Highland Wedding, I soon figured out the basics of the characters, their connections, and their backgrounds. I enjoyed this Armstrong novel very much. I love Scotland as a setting and found the information about women's roles and their limitations in Victorian Scotland informative. It was refreshing to read about the regard for nature and how important the regard for nature was during this period. I know that Queen Victoria valued the preservation of the natural world. The importance of enclosure laws and tenant.interactions within neighboring villages was informative, although I was already knowledgeable about this history. I liked the references to Highland culture and displacement laws. There were several well-defined characters and a number of complex plot twists. The ending of the novel works well, and I will definitely look for more books in this series.
I do recommend Death at a Highland Wedding. The characters and plotting were well done and the novel is historically accurate. Thank you to St. Martin's Press/ Minotaur Press and NetGalley fr [providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review. There is much to like in this Rip Through Time series and with Death at a Highland Wedding.
5 stars

3 stars - I have read all of the "Rip in Time" series (including the novella's) and really enjoyed them. BUT, this fourth novel had a huge issue for me - ANIMAL HARM!! I just really hate that and it is rarely ever necessary for a story. Honestly, I had to skip a section of this novel due to the trapping & severe injuries of a kitten (!!!) and it severely impacted my enjoyment of this series installment. So I've deducted a whole star from my review and am putting a strong "Content Warning" out to all animal & cat lovers. At this point I am not sure if I even want to continue with this series. I love the characters & theme of this series too, but this trigger just pulled me right out of Victorian Scotland and I just skimmed it after that. My thanks to Net Galley & the publisher for the advance reader's copy - I do appreciate the opportunity.

Death at a Highland Wedding
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
5 star murder mystery- I just love this series by Kelley Armstrong.
In the fourth installment in her Rip Through Time series. Mallory is tackling a new adventure - a Victorian Scotland wedding. This book is filled with the typical intrigue, comedy a touch of romana ce and suspense expected from this series. The change in location and addition of new character and their entanglements made for a great read.
The meticulous attention to detail the author uses to familiarize the reader with Victorian Scotland is spot on as well.
I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment. Hopefully by book five we can see Duncan and Mallory confess their feelings ✨sigh ✨
Thanks so much to Kelley Armstrong, NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the advanced reader copy !

Once again I enjoyed the mystery, the romp, and the historical details narrated by a feisty voice from the future. I felt the author stretched the possibility of a romantic relationship between the two main protagonists with a wee bit too much tension although I fully understand the rationale behind the decision. It detracted slightly from my full appreciation of the novel but I would not hesitate to highly recommend the novel. Armstrong's sense and control of characters, setting, and atmosphere are, as always, suburb.

Another excellent installment in this series. The way that Armstrong weaves this ongoing story along with the mysteries in each book is great. New characters come with well developed back stories, and there is always insight into the characters we feel we know so well by now. Learning new things about beloved characters keeps them three-dimensional and at the forefront of readers' minds, and makes us really look forward to the next book in the series. I am hopeful that the individual stories will continue to keep me guessing, unfold at a great pace, and that the overall intertwining of characters continues to be awesome.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the Advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
I loved this one. Since the first book, I've been completely hooked on this series and this one was no different. Mallory's relationships with Gray, Isla, and Hugh are so great, and the addition of the new characters (which I hope we see in future books) added a lot.
My only gripe, and this is knowing that Kelley is the queen of the slow burn, is that this one was torture for the Mallory-Gray shippers. That conversation about marriage just about ripped out my heart. I'm ready for some action...even just a little. But knowing Kelley, we've got a looooong way to go before that payoff.

I loved it! This is my favorite author! Every book in this series has been excellent. I especially enjoy it when a series takes a road trip. Mallory and Gray have no problem "making do" and MacGyvering their tools even though they are far from home. It was very interesting as they explained while setting up. The intuitiveness and kindness of Mallory in her methods keeps me drawn in and I never want the book to end.

4.5 Stars
I'll start off by saying if you haven't read the previous three books, you need to go back and start at the beginning with A Rip Through Time. There is a lot of character development you would be missing if you started with this one, and the characters are what make these books so memorable.
On to the main event! Mallory, Isla, Dr. Gray, and McCreadie are on their way to the wedding of Hugh's sister Fiona to an old acquaintance of his and Dr. Gray's which is to take place at a hunting lodge near a small town in the Highlands.
I tore through this one as if I couldn't read it fast enough. The character dynamics and relationships (the pining!!) are one of my favourite parts of this series and I am grateful for getting to spend more time with them. The change of scenery from city to rural (while still dealing with challenges of the time), also added a new challenge of taking our detectives out of their element.
I was glued to the pages as the layers of the mystery as they got pealed back and the pieces of the puzzle came together. Overall, it was an engrossing story that I couldn't get enough of and I'm only sorry that I have another wait ahead of me for the next book.

Loved reading the exciting and entertaining story. While in town for the wedding, a man is murdered, and Mallory, Gray, Isla, and McCreadie work to solve the case. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting storyline. Can't wait to read the next story in the series by the awesome and amazing author, Kelley Armstrong!

Oh, this was an incredible read! I love this series so much, and I was excited for this latest mystery after the events of the previous book! Because now that she got to say goodbye to her family, and that she chose to be in the past, that means something. This was a fantastic addition to the series!
That this is the marriage of McCreadie's sister, to the brother of the girl that he was supposed to marry, so the families are joining, just with different siblings making up the matrimonial pair, was so interesting! We finally got the whole story of what happened, why McCreadie got disinherited. So that brought up a lot of complicated feelings, and that was before the death occurred.
Sometimes, I wonder just how much of humanity would have lived longer if certain things that modern society is used to, were introduced sooner. Because while they're slowly starting to implement our modern idea of a police force, of course it happens first in cities, then moves out to the rural areas, which is where this takes place. With a pretty incompetent investigator, which was both helpful and harmful to the investigation, because he had no idea what he was doing, and had the attitude that he wasn't going to take instruction from outsiders, even if they know better. Which sometimes really got my emotions going.
Given that this is about a wedding, that brings up all sorts of relationships. Like between McCreadie and Isla, but also between Mallory and Gray. Some of it hurt, there were some misunderstandings that I hope can be cleared up, but some of it was positive, though it'll mean change, which I'm excited to see!
Kelley Armstrong's mysteries are always so well done. The truth can always be figured out, but there's plenty that lead me astray, so that ending, what had happened, was pretty shocking. I didn't expect that it would go in that direction, and I really enjoyed how things shaped up.
Loved reading this book so much, and I can't wait to read more by Kelley Armstrong!

Another great installment in the series, with a modern day Homicide detective who was thrown back in time into the body of a Victorian era Scottish housemaid and into the household of a man who assists the police with autopdies. It is always interesting to see the crew solving murders with our heroine trying to bring what modern knowledge to bear that can be achieved by the technology of the day. Solving the murder this time is as much about her ability to read people and situations to gain the clues. After four other books there is an interesting cast with relationship dynamics. Still there is a brief "bring new readers" up to speed section at the beginning of the book yo help with that.

A delightful edition to the Rip Through Time series bringing some background to the characters with a touch of romance. The story reminds us you may never really know someone even after years of friendship. The ongoing tension between our four main characters is heating up leaving us in anticipation for the next book! An absolute must read series very well executed!

Death at a Highland Wedding is the fourth full length book in Kelley Armstrong's A Rip Through Time series and the fifth book counting a novella. Though reading the first books in the series would be advised, it is possible to read this book as a standalone title.
The main character, Mallory Atkinson is a modern day police detective in Canada. Through some type of quirk that happened when she was being strangled to death by an unknown assailant, she is transported back in time into 1869 Edinburgh where she lands into the body of one Catriona who is a very unpleasant maid in the household of Dr. Duncan Gray. Duncan owns a mortuary business and performs autopsies for Scotland Yard. Duncan eventually learns who Mallory really is and accepts the time traveling reason for her arriving in 19th century Scotland. His sister Isla lives with him and along with their good friend, Inspector McCreadie and a stable boy named Simon are all privy to Mallory's identity. As Mallory knows modern day police investigation techniques, she has become Duncan's partner in solving 19th century crimes.
In this episode, Mallory, Duncan, Isla and McCreadie all travel to the Highlands for the wedding of one of McCreadie's sister to one of Duncan and McCreadie's old school mates. The main problem with this scenario is that McCreadie once broke an engagement to the groom's sister because he was in love with Isla. Instead of the tenseness they expected with Violet (McCreadie's old fiance), the murder of another friend occurs and Mallory, Duncan and McCreadie must solve the case.
I enjoyed this installment of the series, although the story dragged a little bit in the middle. The mystery was well set up so the story was believable. While I would like the relationships between potential romantic partners to move along a little quicker, they are still proceeding at a fairly good pace. I have read all of the books in this series and fully intend to read any more that Ms. Armstrong publishes. Another good book.
**Many thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Mallory is off to a Highland wedding along with Gray, Isla and McCreadie. The groom to be is marrying McCreadie’s sister but complicating the weekend is the fact that the groom’s sister was once engaged to McCreadie. As if that did not make for enough tension there is a murder but was the victim the intended target or was he mistaken for the groom?
I am really enjoying this series and the growing development of both the characters themselves and the relationships they are forming with each other. The murder was sufficiently convoluted that the murderer was not apparent until the same point where Mallory came to the conclusion of who it was. The whole series is highly recommended and this entry is especially enjoyable. I cannot wait for the next one

Death at a Highland Wedding, A Rip Through Time Novel, by Kelley Armstrong
I am absolutely loving this series. Love is in the air in this one... and death too. We get a little more insight into Hugh's past with this one. Also, romantic intentions are clarified and put on full display. I feel like we answered so many questions with this installment only to create new questions to replace them. I can't wait for the next book. Five stars.

This series is one of my favorites. It's so satisfying to have a time traveler who doesn't keep their "past" (haha) a secret. Mallory jumped back in time a year ago at the time this fourth book is happening. She has briefly gone "home" to the future, but has chosen to be in Victorian Scotland. Her friends and employer know she's from the future and the banter about the differences in cultures/times is a constant source of humor in this series.
In this installment, Mallory, Grey, Isla, and Hugh McCreadie go to a wedding in the country. McCreadie's sister is going to marry a childhood friend of his, Archie. The odd part: Hugh was once engaged to the friend's little sister. Awkward...especially with Isla and Hugh falling for each other. A wedding guest, another childhood friend, is killed and Archie is arrested. There are lots of suspects and an old grudge between the town and the manor where the friends are staying.
The mystery is really well done and includes a nod to a major court case that took place in France in the last year. The relationship developments were my favorite part - the slow burn is still burning, but it the payoff feels so close! We also get a little bit of a time travel scare towards the end.
This was yet another gem in this fantastic series. I'm so glad the publisher gave early access via NetGalley.

Another great addition to the Rip in Time series! I loved reading about Mallory, Isla, Duncan, and Hugh as they travel into the Scottish Highlands for a friend's wedding. The romantic setting made it even easier for *certain* feelings to develop. I can't wait to read further along into this series!

Oh, Kelly Armstrong, you cruel, briliant mastermind. I can't believe you teased us like that and almost let THAT happen again! 😭😭😭 Talk about angst!
This is one of my go to series now, as it has a bit of everything, satisfies my curious brain and brings something different than the usual fantasy or historical or crime or romance books. It actually is a blend of all that in perfect doses. (Well, except the Romance, which as I get more invested in these characters's lives, the more I want of it. Even if it's super slow burn and just a minor subplot).
I loved the new setting in the Highlands, the new characters (especially Hugh's sister), all the mystery puzzles, secret meetings and discoveries. This one also touched on some sensitive topics and I appreciate how it was handled.
The full cast of characters, murder and various mysteries and technical descriptions did make my head spin a little, but overall, it was amazing. I never saw the ending coming! Talk about twist.
It was fun and refreshing seeing this new world and set of characters, one of my favorite aspects of the book. But I miss the old "family" and Edinburgh vibe as well so I can't wait to see what the gang will be up next.
Now I'll just go sulk in a corner for all those "almost" moments and lost letters. 🥹

Death at a Highland Wedding is book 4 in the Rip Through Time Series and it is amazing as always. We learn some sad hard truths about McCreadie‘s past that explain so much and we finally see Isla coming out of morning and aI love it. This sheds so much light on why McCreadie and Isla have not as of before this writing explored feelings for each other and I hope to see a romance begin to blossom soon. The same goes of course for Duncan and Mallory I know they have feelings for each other and they have an argument in this book that I can’t wait for them to resolve fully and I hope in the next book that it will lead to discussions that will bring them together as well. Who knew relationships could be so complex in that era and I am amazed at his true history mixed with fiction blends so well. It is truly remarkable to see the complexity of that time for both men and women navigated so well. This series is fascinating and very heartwarming. I absolutely can’t wait for the next installment. Hands down a remarkable and intriguing story! The mystery had so many twists and turns that had revelations that left me reeling. In the end as usual Mallory, Duncan and McCreadie save the day and a the Highland wedding can continue. Get the series you will be tributes from start to finish the perfect blend of fiction woven into history of the era. I love it and I hope you do as well!
