Woah- what did I just read?!
I was engrossed! This was so bingeable. I love that all of the characters were morally gray and there was no one to trust. I also loved how there were possible paranormal elements!
And that epilogue left me speechless.
My first Julie Soto and I’m sat!

If you want a YA thriller that’s part dark high school drama, part paranormal mystery, with just the right slow-burn romance, this is it. Jodi’s pragmatic, flawed, and totally real—her spiraling thoughts and messy relationships had me hooked. Julian’s silent brooding? Instant fave. The plot was predictable but that didn’t stop me from bingeing every chapter, and that wild epilogue? Mind. Blown.
The cast is messy, the secrets are juicy, and the pace is fast enough to keep you up way too late. Also, FYI: Zack = the absolute worst.
Perfect summer thriller binge with serious “can’t put it down” vibes.

Twists and turns at every point. I did not expect to love it as much as I did and I want to read it again already. The story unfolds in an unsuspecting way and it kept me speculating the entire time through!

This book was a blast and I found it totally unputdownable. Fun, twisty, layered, and dark. I went back and forth on whether I liked the supernatural aspect, especially with how subtle it is throughout most of the book (reminiscent of Tana French's The Likeness in a lot of ways). Ultimately I think it was a fun extra twist, especially with the way things were punched up in the epilogue.

I enjoyed this YA thriller. It was a quick, slightly spooky read. I switched between the book and audiobook and I really liked the narrator. I would read more by this author.
3.5 stars

wasn't my favorite book by Julie Soto, but i fear that might be because I am so used to her romances that reading a thriller from her was very different.

And I thought my high school was bad. Such a unique and interesting plot, but the execution fell flat at times.
⭐️⭐️⭐️

i’m glad my high school experience was considered normal compared to this
me reading that epilogue: 😟🔫

I was very surprised at how immersed and invested I was in the story and our characters. I thought that the group dynamic between Jodie, Julien, Lucy, Paige, and Zach was very reminiscent of feelings and experiences that I had as a teenager. Everyone cares for one another in a certain way, but teenage desires, insecurities, and (poor) decisions get in the way of their ability to show one another how they truly feel and care. THe fallout of Emily’s death was very 13-reasons why, and the paranormal twist of the book was one that I didn’t see coming, and found myself thoroughly enjoying.
I thought that Jodie was an incredible main character. Her self-esteem and insecurities were so realistic. The thought of being left out constantly weighed on her and drove some of the decisions that she made. It was very nostalgic to read through her thoughts and emotions, bringing me back to some of my high-school memories (both good and bad).
Despite the book feeling predictable at times, it was still a very enjoyable read, and I found myself very immersed in how the story was unraveling and how the plot twists occurred.

Moving between a 3.75 and a 4 star rating right now… need to think this one through and read reviews before I decide lol

THIS BOOK HAD ME ENTHRALLED!!!!!! I WAS IN ITS CLUTCHES ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!!!! The characters felt so real and true to high school in every way, especially the way teenagers interact with all the twists and drama and hormones and tension. Although this book did remind me why I can't read about morally grey characters because I CANNOT BE TRUSTED JodiJulian get behind me babies

This book is loud in all the right ways. Emotionally charged, beautifully messy, and unapologetically intense. The band dynamic crackles with tension, and the slow-burn romance simmers beneath the surface. Julie Soto has a talent for writing complicated people with depth and vulnerability.
While some plot points feel a little familiar, the sharp writing and emotional payoff more than make up for it. Perfect for fans of tortured love, found family, and backstage drama.

This was so fun!! This was my first Julie Soto book and it didn’t disappoint! It gave me the Pretty Little Liars vibe that I love so much,
I finished this book in 24-hours because it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was completely addicting and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes YA thriller novels with drama and slasher vibes.
Thank you to Julie, her team and NetGalley for a copy of this book!

As a fan of Julie Soto’s romance books, reading a mystery/thriller was a bit of a breath of fresh air, to see how much of a well rounded writer she is. I was not someone who read her fanfic before, so this was my first introduction to her more suspenseful writing.
We are introduced to a high school group of friends called the Thrashers. Jodie is our main character, and we follow her other 4 friends in their group. They’re not very well liked in school due to their clique behavior that their leader Zack doesn't seem aware of. And even the friendships within have tension. And with the suicide of Emily, a girl who was in love with Zach and pried into Jodie's personal life more than she liked, all eyes are on them. And after Emily's death, bizarre things began happening, questioning whether Emily was haunting them, or if there was unfinished business with an ulterior motive.
What I loved about this storyline is it kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out things, and the new discoveries and plot twists made the story so easy to read through. There were characters like Julian, who I felt I would never like from the get-go, and people who constantly surprised me. The paranormal element of this story was also very fun to experience, and made it all the more intriguing for me to continue reading on. Because I kept asking myself if the Thrashers were to blame, or was there more to Emily than what we knew.
5 stars and I hope to get more of these characters and world

The Thrashers by Julie Soto
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5/5
It is absolutely no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Julie Soto and have been since the Saturday girls 🤍, so I was so excited to see this YA thriller of hers coming out. While not my usual genre, I was a major Pretty Little Liars girlie in high school, and this seemed like it would be somewhat similar. So glad I went out of my comfort zone and read this book because it absolutely blew my mind! I flew through it and could not put it down.
First, I love a friend group with secrets, hidden dynamics, and a power struggle. This friend group hit the trifecta. Jodi was the perfect character to tell this story, and I loved seeing it unfold through her lens. Her individual relationship with each character gave us just the right amount of information about them to not figure things out too soon but still feel in on the game. I specifically really loved Jodi’s relationship with Julian throughout the book and how it changed and grew. I was secretly rooting for Julian the whole time, not gonna lie.
I do think the Thrashers were actually good friends to Jodi, despite everything that went down. They were by no means perfect and made LOTS of mistakes, but there were a few different instances in the book where I thought “hmm, these guys aren’t as bad as they seem,” which I think is a testament to how well-written these characters are that you can hate them and root for them at the same time. They are all severely flawed and equally redeemable.
Emily, on the other hand … 👀 whew, that girl is Alison DiLaurentis reincarnated. She is so slimy and manipulative to everyone around her, including her family, but still manages to get you to feel sorry for her. I was screaming when everything finally came out at the end and we learn what she did. That ending had my jaw on the ground. Total psychopath. I would 100% read a sequel about the Thrashers and where they all end up in life. I can see the potential for a story there.
I would recommend this book to fans of the show like Pretty Little Liars or those who enjoy the slightly paranormal and YA thrillers. This would be a fun book to read around Halloween!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, my queen Julie Soto, and NetGalley for the eARC. All opinions stated are my own.

If Julie Soto writes it, I want to read it. I was pretty excited to see she was coming out with a ya thriller book and this one didn't disappoint. In "The Thrashers", we follow a friend group, known by that name, who are navigating bullying allegations that lead to a girl committing suicide. This was a fun thriller, even for those who don't typically read this genre. Soto did a great job with the character development and making me question what was true and not true.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Julie Soto really surprised me with this awesome YA thriller! I loved her previous romance books and knew I had to give this book a shot. So much drama, mystery, a few supernatural events, all together make for a very page turning book. Couldn’t put it down and that epilogue at the end had me shook. Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The thrashers was a nice break from romance and fantasy books. Its been awhile since I've read a mystery thriller. It gave off 13 reasons why kind of vibe which I liked. The story has a nice flow and enjoyed Jodi's development. But not all the core characters were convincing and whatever romance is going on felt forced.

I was hooked all the way to the end.
Julie never disappoints, and this book was no different. Thrillers can be such a hit or miss for me because you can just see what’s coming. So when I say I was on the edge of my seat the entire time just know I mean it. I couldn’t put this book down and found myself questioning everyone. Julie delivered with this book, and the plot twist blew me away. The paranormal aspect was the cherry on top for me because it just came out of nowhere.
I love this book, and The Thrashers so much! I hope there’s more to come with these characters.

I ate this book up and listened to it in one sitting. It was such a good story, and the twist at the end ah. I’m so excited to hear a sequel will eventually come to find out what happens next.
If you like pretty little liars, a good girls guide to murder, or one of us is lying, this has the same vibes! Please do check trigger warnings though, as suicide as statutory rape are discussed within the book.
Thank you NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the ARC.
