The Trashers is a gritty, fast-paced YA thriller that blends sports, crime, and high-stakes drama in the most addictive way. Julie Soto gives us Jackie—a fierce, complicated teen suddenly running a hockey team with mob ties—and the result is pure chaos in the best way.
This was my first book by Julie Soto, she has some sharp writing, jaw-dropping twists, and just the right dose of heart, this book is impossible to put down. Inspired by a wild true story, The Trashers is the kind of ride that’ll have you Googling facts and rereading your favorite scenes.
A must-read for anyone who loves thrillers with edge, emotion, and nonstop action.

5/5 ⭐️ for this YA suspense/thriller by Julie Soto!! The twists, turns, cover ups, and cover your own behinds within a group of friends trying to figure out what happened and what went wrong will have you turning the pages! You'll devour this is 48 hours!

Either you’re in or you’re out.
The Thrashers rule New Helvetia High. Rich, popular, and untouchable, they have everything and Jodi Dillon doesn’t fit in.
But Zack Thrasher is her childhood best friend, so she’s part of the group. For now.
Then Emily Mills, who would do anything to join them, ends up dead. Her journal surfaces. Secrets start to spread. And Jodi has a choice, protect the Thrashers or save herself.
Because Emily might be gone, but she’s not finished.
I love a good YA mystery and thriller, they always suck me in and keep me hooked from beginning to end, and this one was no different! The toxicity in the friend group really added to the story and made it feel intense and dramatic in the best way. Some parts were a little sad, especially seeing the darker side of popularity, but that only made the dynamic more realistic.
I do think it would’ve added more depth if we got a few chapters from Emily’s point of view, just to really understand her experience with the Thrashers. Still, I really enjoyed this book and it definitely kept me entertained the whole way through!

THIS WAS AMAZINGGGG!! this had me hooked and on the edge of my seat the entire time!! i feel empty after finishing this and already want to read it again!! the slight romance in this was also sooo good!! i am NOT ok after that ending!!

addictive as heck. i loved this so much. fast paced and always wanted more. i love the plot, nothing like ive ever read before. julie soto please write more of these!

Truly, I don’t think that I can read young adult books anymore, especially in the romance genre in young adult. It just isn’t for me anymore. I definitely can read young adult fantasy books, but young adult romance isn’t it. I just get annoyed with the characters or particularly don’t understand why the characters do what they do. And this resulted when I read this book. Just didn’t enjoy it as I thought I would. If you enjoy reading about young adult romance with bits of thriller aspects, then you will enjoy reading this book.

This was a very entertaining young adult mystery! Jodi is part of an exclusive group of seniors at New Helvetia High, one that is centered around Zach Thrasher. Everyone wants to be a part of “The Thrashers.” When Emily Mills, another student who was determined to be a Thrasher, commits suicide though, the cracks in group start to show. Weird things start happening to Lucy, Paige, Julian, Zach and Jodi and they realize that maybe they aren’t as invincible as they originally thought.
I thought this was a super entertaining YA book. I really enjoyed the group dynamics, though I personally wanted a bit more characterization of The Thrashers. I did like that there were some paranormal aspects, and the epilogue was pitch perfect. I hope that Julie Soto makes this into a series, because the ending sort of lent it to be the beginning of one. Overall, this was a fast read that kept me wanting to figure out all the twists. Definitely recommend it if you enjoy a little bit of a popcorn thriller with a high school setting.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/Wednesday Books for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.

This book came out last month (May) and a couple weeks later this amazing box showed up at my door! Thank you Wednesday Books !! I was so surprised and would have missed out on this amazing book without it! My YA self and adult self rated this the same! That never happens! This kept me on the edge of my seat and was so well done with a lot of very morally gray characters that were realistic that I found myself still cheering for (or not depending on where I was in the book). There are quite a few trigger warnings in this one and it is older YA, just a heads up. It’s a great, fast paced summer read!

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I've only read Julie's adult romance so I was intrigued by the YA mystery/thriller genre and I'm surprised I liked it. I'm very picky with genres outside of romance so this was fun to have something a little different but not overly intense.

a fun enough read that dragged at times. Julian was hot! Julie Soto obviously has more of a traditional romance writing background and I definitely enjoyed those parts most.

Guys - I didn't love high school, but I am glad to say that my high school experience was so normal compared to this group of friends...This one was crazy! I've been on a "ghosty" book kick recently and am SO GLAD I picke up this book by Julie Soto. This is my first by this author and I will be anxiously waiting to see what else she puts out in the future. And after this epilogue - I am HOPING there's another installment because I have so many questions. This definitely is one of the better YA books I've read recently (but you do have to suspend your disbelief a bit).
Synopsis: The Thrashers by Julie Soto is a YA thriller set in a high school and revolves around a close knit group of popular kids known as The Thrashers. Recently a new friend/classmate named Emily has passed away and everything points to suicide, but when her journal is found things come to light about The Thrashers and how much they might not have really liked Emily. There is a lot of drama around the school/group/friends, a bit of a ghosty/paranormal storyline, a tinge of romance mixed in with the fast-paced story that will keep you turning the pages into the night. I enjoyed getting to see things from Jodi's POV - she wasn't perfect by any means and she made some bad choices along the way, but I liked getting to know her. I actually liked most of the main characters. The all were so well written, all had their own distinctive voices, so they didn't all run together. There were great twists - and the EPILOGUE had me staring at the wall after I finished. JULIE SOTO I NEED MORE! :-)
If you love a good, ghosty thriller, flawed but likeable characters, twists and secrets, then this one is for you.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

4.5 stars - I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have received an advanced copy of The Thrashers from the author, and Wednesday Books! 🫶
The Thrashers is my first ever book I have read from Julie Soto and I loved it! 🥹💕 I was hooked it from the start and I couldn't put it down! 🫶 All of the characters are so morally grey and complex and it was so much fun getting to read about them all!

Not my typical genre, but I really enjoyed it for something different! Julie Soto never disappoints.

40/100 or 2.0 stars
The premise of the story was what made me request the book, as well as the author, as I have heard good things about their romances. This really didn't work for me. I didn't really care for the way certain characters where presented (trying to avoid spoilers), but it is really distasteful in regards to mental health issues. I guess I can see how this works for some people, but it doesn't work at all for me.
I might try some of the adult/ya romances by this author, but I am not sure if I will be checking out any thrillers by this author any time soon.

Thank you to Wednesday Books for the eARC.
I was enthralled by The Thrashers; I couldn’t put it down.
The story is told entirely through the point-of-view of Jodi, one of the Thrashers—the name for the clique of popular and rich kids. Except Jodi isn’t rich, and she doesn’t feel popular. The story unfolds after a girl who infiltrates their group commits suicide at the end of the previous school year…and the Thrashers are targeted for bullying.
I felt like I was getting all the clues and details just as Jodi was; that I was just as invested and involved in the story. And the story was so much more than the mystery; it delved into the interpersonal relationships between the clique members and how much can be hidden beneath the surface.
The ending epilogue really threw me and I was shooketh. I’m hoping for more books to come in this world as I’d love to revisit it.

I love a good thriller and this one delivered! Full of twists that kept me guessing and a solid ending!

I just love YA thrillers! The drama and over the top settings is JUST my vibe. This is my first by this author and I went into it completely blind, but was immersed into it pretty quickly. This is a book about privilege, guilt, and the chilling question: can you ever outrun your mistakes- or the dead?
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC, all opinions are my own

I DNFed this book at 33%, I skipped to the end to find out "who dun it" and I easily guessed the overall plot line and where the story was going within that first 33%. I was not entertained, and I did not enjoy the narration of this book. I will not be continuing and I do not think now that I know the end, that I will pick this one back up again.

I really enjoyed the two Julie Soto romances I’ve read and was excited to read her YA thriller debut. The Thrashers grabbed me right from the start and I wanted to keep reading to see how the twisty plot would turn out. I have to admit that it helped me realize that I am definitely in my romance era as this book was a bit darker and creepier than I prefer to read these days. Still a great book though!

I don’t always love young adult, but Julie Soto can never do wrong in my world and this book continued that mind set. I loved it!
