5 stars — Emotional, Raw, and Beautifully Written

The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann absolutely shattered me—in the best way. It’s a heart-wrenching story of grief, love, and second chances that feels deeply personal and real. The emotional depth of the characters and the unique, poignant plot kept me hooked from start to finish. Hartmann writes with so much heart and honesty—it’s impossible not to feel every word. Highly recommend if you love romance with real emotional weight.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

Jennifer Hartmann has quickly become a favorite author. I've enjoyed everything I've read by her and can't wait to get my hands on more. This book is no exception. I'm not an emotional reader at all, you won't see me crying at books but hers have come close and this one made my eyes water up a little bit. Loved the story, the characters, their progression and all their flaws. And definitely appreciated the epilogue.

Okay, so this book? TOTAL emotional rollercoaster! 😂😭❤️

One minute I'm cracking up laughing (probably looking like a complete weirdo to anyone walking by me), and the next I'm literally SOBBING into my coffee. Not even exaggerating! My heart got absolutely SHATTERED into a million pieces... and then this magical author somehow managed to put it back together again??

Like how dare Jennifer play with my feelings this way but also PLEASE NEVER STOP??

I swear I went through the entire human emotion spectrum in just a few hundred pages. Joy, anger, hope, devastation, relief - this book checked ALL the boxes. And honestly? I was living for every single second of it.

When a book can make you feel THIS much, you know it's something special. 10/10 would let this author emotionally destroy me again!

The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann is an emotional rollercoaster that will wreck you in the best (and worst) way possible. It’s a beautifully tragic, heart wrenching love story that had me hooked from the first page, even as it tore my heart into little pieces.

Melody March had everything planned out, until the universe decided to rip her world apart. On her five-
year wedding anniversary, her husband is tragically taken from her, leaving her to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. But that’s not the only thing he left behind- his heart was transplanted into someone else. In an effort to heal and find closure, Melody seeks out the man who now holds the key to her past, the recipient of her husband’s heart.

Cue Parker. Dark, brooding, and emotionally distant, he’s definitely not what Melody expects, and definitely not the person she should be leaning on. But the chemistry between them? Instant. The tension is palpable, and the way their connection develops is both intense and complicated. It’s clear they’re both dealing with their own emotional baggage, but the sparks fly regardless. And as their relationship deepens, secrets start to surface, threatening to undo everything they’re building.

What I loved most about The Wrong Heart was how Jennifer Hartmann explores grief, loss, and healing. The emotional depth of Melody’s journey is gut wrenching, and Parker’s own trauma adds layers to their connection. Both characters are so well developed, and watching them come together was equal parts painful and beautiful.

This isn’t just a typical romance or a “second chance” love story, it’s truly about the messy, complex process of moving on after loss, figuring out how to love again, and realizing that sometimes the heart you’re given isn’t the one you expected. The twists and turns in this story will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about love, grief, and second chances.

If you’re looking for a romance that doesn’t just pull at your heartstrings but rips them out and throws them in your face, The Wrong Heart is for you. It’s intense, emotional, and ultimately hopeful in the most unexpected ways. Be prepared to feel ALL the things, because this book will definitely leave an impression.

I thought I was good, getting through this story without shedding a tear. Sure, there were moments where I began to tear up but I kept it together. Then it came time for the epilogue and thats when I lost it. Jennifer, you know how to write both painful yet beautiful romance books. This book took me by surprise and on a journey. I really appreciate the way you approach mental health and, *trigger warning!*, suicidal ideation with kindness and grace. I didn't know what I was in for when starting this book other than it being a romance book and I am in awe. I cannot wait to read your other work because I feel like I won't be disappointed.

I don’t know how Jennifer Hartman does it, but she continuously breaks my heart and makes me fall completely in love with the characters.

Jennifer Hartman writes some of the best emotional, gut-wrenching romance books I’ve ever read.

I cried. Swooned. Screamed. I had so many emotions.

I highly recommend this book!

The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann is one of those books that sneaks up on you, rips your emotions to shreds, and then leaves you staring at the wall trying to figure out how to move on with your life. It’s a beautifully tragic and deeply emotional story about grief, healing, and finding love in the most unexpected of places. The premise alone—a woman connecting with the recipient of her late husband’s heart—is enough to wreck you, but Hartmann somehow makes the heartbreak poetic and the romance incredibly tender.

The emotional depth of this book is unreal. The characters feel raw and broken in the most authentic way, and watching them slowly find light again is just…ugh, chef’s kiss. If you love romance that doesn’t shy away from pain, that makes you feel everything—The Wrong Heart delivers in spades. Just make sure you have tissues (and maybe a therapy session) on standby.

Ugh this one was hard for me I loved it but hated it all the same! This book was not light at all, I had to read a fluffy romance after reading it. Melody has lost her husband and is devastated. Her husband was an organ donor so she reaches out to the person who may have gotten his heart. She is dealing with her grief and attends a meeting (won't go into detail) where she meets Parker. He is a damaged and broody man, and she is absolutely captivated by him. They grow closer and closer, finding themselves falling for each other. There were so many parts that just broke my heart, this was such an emotional read.

I did not like the epilogue though. That is where I say I hated it. Like ugh whyyyy..

I absolutely loved this book. Melody suffered the tragic loss of her husband, leaving her a shell of the woman she once was. Melody obtained the recipient's email address who received her husband's heart. After months of emails back and forth between the two, Melody begins to feel alive again. Is she drawn to him simply because her husband's heart beats in his chest?

When life begins to be too much, Melanie finds herself in a Suicide Survivor group where she meets Parker. He is emotionally detached from the group and refuses to speak during group sessions, except when he's sharing his unwanted opinion or criticizing other members.

But Melody is drawn to him for some reason. She catches him watching her throughout the meetings. When Melody once again felt she was at her lowest, she turned to Parker for help.

Throughout this book, I was rooting for Melody and Parker. When secrets are revealed, I still rooted for them. Parker brought Melody back to life. Melody had a different effect on Parker. She taught him to love, how to experience love, how to welcome it.

I could not put this book down. It is a MUST read!

Dark and sad!

"The Wrong Heart" by Jennifer Hartmann is an emotional story about pain, loss and the chance of love.

How Jennifer? How can you rip my heart out of my chest in the first few pages? 😭

Melody March was happy, really happy, until her husband was taken from her before her very eyes. Now the young widow has to adjust to life without the love of her life and it pushes her to the brink.

When I started "The Wrong Heart" I knew I was in for a painful story, but I didn't expect to dive into a story full of pain and darkness with some really heavy themes. So at this point: please read the trigger warning!

I'll be honest: even though I found the story really emotional, some of the themes were just too heavy for me. It was too much for me and it did take me away a bit.
And the ending wasn't my cup of tea either 🙈 Neither the epilogue nor what happened before it.

However, I found the love story between Melody and Parker quite nice, although at times it felt like they were just using each other as a crutch.

I give "The Wrong Heart" 3 out of 5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

I get really frustrated when books show up on Netgalley that I believe are new books, but they are just new editions of the same book. Often the only thing updated is the cover. I think they are doing this with some of Jennifer hartmann's books because she became popular on Tiktok last year. I requested this thinking it was new and would be as exciting as her other new books, but it just didn't have the same stuff that I loved about Older/Still Beating etc. The plot ended up being exactly what I predicted.

A beautiful novel about the journey one takes to heal and re-learn to let down your walls and let life and love back in! I'd recommend searching trigger warnings for this one, but I love an emotional romance so this was a good one for me. The mc's, Melody and Parker, learn and grow so much as individuals throughout this novel. I liked how their love for each other grew throughout the book and wasn't rushed - it took a lot of trust and understanding from one another. Warning.... the epilogue will destroy you.

In *The Wrong Heart*, author Jennifer Hartmann delivers an emotionally charged narrative that explores the complexity of love, grief, and the healing power of human connection. The story centers around Melody March, whose seemingly fairy tale life is shattered on her five-year wedding anniversary when she loses her husband in a tragic accident. As she grapples with the aftermath of her loss, she discovers that his heart lives on in another, prompting her to seek solace in the unlikeliest of places—the very person who now holds the essence of her late husband.

Melody's journey of healing is both poignant and relatable, reflecting the depths of grief and the search for identity after profound loss. The author's exploration of support groups for individuals struggling with loss adds a layer of authenticity, showcasing the shared pain that unites them while also introducing unexpected connections. When Melody meets Parker—a dark, brooding soul who is emotionally detached—readers are drawn into a compelling dynamic that challenges them to reconsider their perceptions of love and healing.

The chemistry between Melody and Parker is palpable, rooted in their respective traumas. Hartman masterfully juxtaposes Melody's quest for optimism against Parker's struggle with his own emotional barriers, creating a tension that propels the story forward. As their bond deepens, the secrets unveiled challenge everything they thought they knew about themselves and each other, adding a rich layer of complexity to their relationship.

A standout quote from the novel encapsulates the central themes beautifully: “We are both two broken souls, fractured in opposite ways.” This line resonates throughout the narrative, reflecting the characters’ vulnerabilities and their shared path toward understanding and connection amidst their pain.

*The Wrong Heart* is a beautifully crafted exploration of how love can emerge from grief, showcasing the transformative power of human connection. Hartman’s writing is both evocative and immersive, making it easy for readers to invest in Melody's emotional journey. With its strong character development and heartfelt narrative, this novel is a rewarding experience that lingers long after the final page.

Fans of contemporary romance and stories of personal growth will find *The Wrong Heart* both touching and resonant, making this a must-read for anyone looking to explore the intertwining paths of love, loss, and hope.

I love Jennifer Hartmann's work, but unfortunately, I think this one isn't for me. The premise was interesting, but I found that the story itself wasn't my cup of tea. I can see others enjoying this, as the writing is beautiful, and the themes are also something that brings a lot of questions and intrigue into mind.
