Jennifer Hartmann really knows how to rip your heart out. This book is a beautifully written masterpiece. It’s poetically written and has so many musings about life, mental health, and how to heal after experiencing trauma.

I would definitely recommend you don’t read this book if you’re feeling down and depressed, or having struggles with your own mental health. Prioritize your wellbeing.

This is the ultimate grumpy sunshine romance. The two main characters almost don’t make sense at first but their chemistry inevitably draws them together to make an unbreakable connection. This couple has my heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for proving me with this advanced copy.

📚 ARC Review 📚

The Wrong Heart⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After losing her husband in a tragic accident on their wedding anniversary, Melody is now dealing with her grief. One of those ways, is by contacting the recipient of her husbands heart via email. She has also been going to a support group, where she meets Parker. He’s grumpy and very closed off. The opposite of what Melody is. Even though she’s been through a lot, she still lets her smile shine like the sun.

Everyone irritates him and he doesn’t even want to be at support group, but Parker goes because his sister wants him to. Half the time he takes a nap during group discussions. Well that was before she started coming. Melody has captured his attention and he finds it annoying that he can’t stop thinking about her and that smile.

Where to start…this book will make you feel all the emotions. It deals with heavy topics, such as loss of a loved one and self-harm/suicide but also is a beautiful story of recovery and finding love again after loss. The growth that both characters have is amazing, given their past. Even the side characters are ones you want to know more about. This is not a closed door romance and does have heavy topics throughout, so be sure to check the trigger warning before starting. Overall, this was a really good book.

This book will publishes on December 31, 2024. Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for my advanced readers copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.

5 stars, I honestly couldn't put this book down and highlighted so much of it. It was definitely hard to read, but it was so raw and real.
It delves into dark topics of self-harm and suicide and grief, so check trigger warnings! Melody has lost her husband in a tragic accident, and she gets in touch with the recipient of her husbands heart. She's dealing with her grief and just wanting to have a conversation with the recipient. Melody is going to a support group where she meets Parker. He's grumpy, very closed off, and emotionless. Melody is the opposite. She still smiles even through everything she's been through. Melody and Parker's relationship had so many ups and downs, and getting to see them both struggle and navigate the relationship and open up was so hard but heartwarming at the same time. There were twists I definitely didn't see coming. I think this book will stick with me for a long time! This is my first book by Jennifer Hartmann and definitely won't be last. Thank you to Net Galley, Bloom Books, and Jennifer Hartmann for the ARC!

Jennifer does it again... whenever I need a good cry, I know I can rely on her to bring the tears.

This was such an intense story of loss, grief in its most raw form, a second chance/ a first chance... and at the heart of it all, the undeniable truth that you are worthy of so much love no matter what life has dealt you.

Melody and Parker have such heartbreaking pasts, and the way they are able to find love and strength in each other despite it all is absolutely beautiful. They were the truest definition of the grumpy/sunshine trope, and I absolutely loved watching the transformation that Parker, especially, goes through.

The epilogue absolutely broke me in the best way possible. We should all be so lucky to have a beautiful ending like that. 🖤

Unfortunately this one just wasn't the book for me. I liked the idea of it, but it overall just fell completely flat for me. I couldn't ever get myself to like Parker or Melody at all, I understand their trauma and that was sad but man they really irritated me. Charlie and Melody were so adorable for the small time we got to see of them tho.
Regardless of how I felt still a big thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the early edition of this second release.

The emotional gauntlet that I went through while reading this book… whew. It is a heavy read but so so worth it. The heartache, the hope, the pain, the vulnerability - the surprises!

Melody and Parker are characters that will stay with me for a long time. Both characters have broken hearts for wildly different reasons and reading about their journey of healing and moving forward was beautiful. So glad Bloom is re-releasing this because it deserves to find the largest audience.

This was an absolutely stunning story. It was a bit heavier than I was ready for at this time but once I got reading I quickly fell in love with the characters. So much heartbreak, so much trauma and yet so damn beautiful.

The relationship between the MCs had me frustrated a few time because it was so back and forth. He was a mess, she was a mess. It was just MESSY. But it made for such a captivating page turner. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read another one of Jennifer Hartman books. Even though this is a romance, it’s veering towards dark romance territory in my opinion and has very heavy themes throughout the book. I recommend it for someone who likes a highly emotional romance with dark themes.

A very big thank you to @netgalley , @read_bloom , and @author.jenniferhartmann for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC.

5 stars for The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann - originally published Aug.2021 — being re-released 12/31/2024. The cover has changed (I like the new one so much better. I hope they update it on all platforms) I’m not sure if anything else has been changed from the original.
**“We are both two broken souls; fractured in opposite ways. She loved and lost… And I was lost before I could ever love at all.”**
This book is a journey of emotions through hope and heartache; through healing and forgiveness. Highs and lows and all the real work in between.
This will be the book I will compare all future romance novels to.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the early edition of this second release.

📚 The Wrong Heart by Jennifer Hartmann 🖤

💔 "The only thing I have left of my husband is inside him."

If you're looking for a romance that will rip your heart apart and put it back together, this one is IT. Jennifer Hartmann delivers a gut-wrenching, beautifully written story about grief, healing, and an unconventional connection born from unimaginable loss.

🖤 Angst overload: Prepare yourself for ALL the feels. This book dives deep into grief, trauma, and the messy, complicated process of finding love again.

💬 Emotionally raw: The anonymous exchanges between the FMC and her late husband's heart recipient are haunting, addictive, and completely unforgettable.

⚠️ Trigger warning: This story doesn’t shy away from heavy topics like self-harm and loss, but Hartmann handles them with care. If you're in the headspace for a cathartic cry, you'll absolutely feel seen.

✨ Verdict: This isn't just a romance—it’s a journey of heartbreak, healing, and hope. If you love angsty, contemporary romances that feel like a punch to the gut (in the best way), The Wrong Heart is a must-read. 5/5 tissues. 😭🖤

Thank you to NetGalley, Jennifer Hartmann, and Bloom Books for the eARC of this book.

The wrong heart by Jennifer Hartman

“We are both two broken souls, fractured in opposite ways.
She loved and lost...
And I was lost before I could ever love at all."

The wrong heart by Jennifer Hartman is one of the strongest books I have ever read.

I haven’t read anything by Jennifer Hartman before, and the book is far from what I normally read, but I’m so glad I chose to read this book. Even though it touches upon very tough and deep areas such as suicide, loss of loved ones, and depression, the book is so well and beautifully written that it is worth it.

I would recommend reading this book, but make sure to be ready for an emotional journey.

This was an utterly romantic book about healing and allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to love again. The characters were complex and raw, and it was easy to feel their emotions alongside them as they navigated their future and opened up about the past.

Jennifer Hermann is a fabulous writing. She is now 5/5 for me.

Read if you like:
-Alpha hero
-Broken but strong heroine
-Angsty reads
-Sad romance

Jennifer Hartmann has a way of putting you right in the thick of real life and all its emotions. This book is about real grief.
Be prepared and read the trigger warnings.

I cried until the end, and then I got to the epilogue and cried again some more. I had never read a story with angst that I couldn't stop reading. It was beautiful sadness that left my heart hopeful
.
Melodie and Parker are two beautiful characters, my heart broke for them and at the same time I accompanied them every step of the way to find a new path. And that plot twist that I didn't see coming ?!…well it simply blew my mind
.
Melodie lost her husband, the love of her life in an unexpected and tragic way and the only way to move on is knowing that his heart beats in another body. Crossing the line and sending an email, she hopes to find a little of what she lost.
.
It is at that desperate moment that it leads her to take a step with almost no return and she ends up in a therapy group for survivors who try not to lose themselves in the pain and grief of living. And is in the least expected place she meets Parker, who does not let go of his face of disbelief and his permanent scowl every time someone says something positive or tell a hopeful story.
.
They can’t stop looking for the other and It becomes an intrigue that works like a magnet between them and the closer they get, the more they recognize each other as pieces of something worth repairing and loving. Something that they can’t left behind.
.
This book broke me, fixed me and it will remain in my head forever. Thanks for change my mind about angsty and drama romance or love story , I didn’t know they can be so beautiful
.
Thanks to Jennifer Hartmann and Source Books Bloom for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 5 stars

"All this time, I've been wrong about her.
She is not sunshine. She's the glittering nightfall, pale moonlight, silver stars in the midnight skies.
She's that beacon of light when darkness threatens and consumes.
No, she is not the sun...
Melody is the moon."

Here I am crying again while writing this review 💔.
What a beautiful story... I finished reading this yesterday and haven't stop thinking about it.

The story follows Melody, a woman who just lost her husband on the day of her wedding anniversary due and terrible accident.
Drowning in grief she reaches out to the heart recipient and also joins a support group with fellow lost souls. That is where she meets Parker, a grumpy, depressed and emotionally unavailable guy.

I honestly can't tell you more about it without getting spoilery. But let me tell you that book let me feel every single emotion that exists. It broke my heart (even in the very first chapter), repaired it, broke it a few times again, repaired it and then sobbed in the epilogue.
This is definitely a book that will hold a special place in my heart, like some other books from this amazing author.

⚠️ This book is an emotional rollercoaster with and deals with heavy themes, such as loss of a loved one and self-harm/suic!de. So please do check the TW's before reading. Your mental health matters. 🩷

The epilogue of this book had me sobbing, absolutely beautiful.

I love going into stories blind because I feel like I am able to immerse myself in the characters. This story was no different. I cried for Melody, and I cheered for her. She was so much stronger than I thought I could be. She is such a beautiful character. She has a beautiful forgiving heart that I feel few actually have.

Parker is a broken man with a horrifying past. He doesn't form relationships like the rest of us, and he is thrown off kilter by Melody. She is sunshine in the darkness, and he can't stand that. What these two share is deeper than he can understand.

I rooted for them when things were beautiful and harder when times seemed impossible. The connections they share are those that we strive to achieve.

I won't soon forget these two and the bonds they created.

I am thoroughly convinced that Jennifer Hartmann can do no wrong. This book was absolutely amazing! I feel like now that I have read this book, I need to go back and read all of her backlog.

I don't know how I got into Jennifer Hartmann or why I let her torture me in this way, but man do I like it. This story of a grieving widow and a troubled hero in their suicide prevention group is just so addicting and good. Hartmann writes these stories with a hand that makes them feel so honest and real and raw. They are completely addicting and so rewarding in the end. But it's always a little bit of a rough road to get there.

As always, read content warnings before you pick up this book. It's not going to land well for everyone.

4.25⭐
3🌶️

.Second chance
.Hurt/comfort
.Opposites attract
.Trauma and healing
.Dual POV

Let me start by saying this: this book is not easy to read. Emotionally, that is. If you’ve read Jennifer Hartmann before, you know her books are a rollercoaster of heartache and healing, and this one is no exception. Somehow, she always manages to drag her characters through hell and back, but they come out stronger on the other side. So, heads up, this one is heavy, but it’s worth it.

Now, do I think it surpasses Still Beating or Lotus? No, but those two set the bar ridiculously high for me. If I’d read this one first, I’d probably be raving about it even more. That said, it’s still a very, very good book.

Let’s talk about Melody. I absolutely loved her. She’s resilient and pure sunshine, the kind of person who lights up every room she walks into. That’s why it hit so hard when she attempted to end her life (Don’t worry, not a spoiler, it happens early on). It felt unexpected, but also a reminder that the brightest personalities often hide the deepest struggles.

Then there’s Parker. He’s the complete opposite of Melody. Cold, closed off, and scarred by his own trauma. Together, they make the ultimate opposites-attract pairing. Watching him slowly open up to her was beautiful, though I did wish he’d do it for himself, not just for her. Trauma doesn’t just vanish because of love, and I think that’s where the story faltered a bit.

As for the plot, I knew a twist was coming, but I didn’t see that twist. The story kept me hooked from start to finish. And the last epilogue had me almost in tears. It was bittersweet, but also healing. It is, after all, the ending of every romance story whether we want to think about it or not.

Oh, and the little nod to Still Beating! I love when authors sneak in Easter eggs from their other books.

All in all, this book was touching, emotional, and hard to put down. If you’re a fan of her books, you’ll definitely want to add this one to your TBR.
