This book was a blast! I did guess a main twist early on, but it was still so fun. I couldn’t put it down. I pick the thriller for my book club this year and this one is a top contender for my choice.

Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark | Sourcebooks Landmark for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

While I went into this book kind of blindly, I actually really enjoyed it. The pace was very fast and I had it read in about 3 days which is fast for me. The 3 main characters all had their own reasons for what they did and all 3 characters interested me. I was surprised by the twist in this one as I did not see that reveal. The only thing I can say is I wanted more from the end. It did wrap up well but I wanted a bigger bang. Over all a great, fast read.

I am going to be honest, I chose this book solely based on the title and the cover. I knew The French Honeymoon was a thriller, which I always enjoy, but I was sold on the ambience from the cover. Not the best methodology for selecting a book, but it usually works out for me.

To borrow a book term for another thriller reviewers, this was a popcorn read for me. A quick, nearly bingeable (once I remembered I was reading it) book that I found myself quickly moving through. I didn't feel a deep connection to any character but did appreciate how the three main characters had their own perception of the people and relationships around them. I enjoyed getting glimpses of Olivier, Cassie, and Taylor from the other character's perspectives. It made you question who each main character really was and how reliable their version of events was.

My primary critical feedback is that the pacing was slightly off. It seemed like a whole lot of nothing with random spurts of activity. Regardless, this was still a fast read, in part due to the length of the chapters and the varying perspectives. I also enjoyed the ambiguous ending that leaves it up to the reader to decide the resolution.

As the book title says, sometimes Paris is a terrible idea.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 / 5 stars rounded up.

I really liked this one - it read like a guilty pleasure, featuring messy relationships, unlikeable and unreliable characters, and family drama. Everyone makes a lot of bad decisions, which are fun to watch from a far. I also feel like the author made some really purposeful choices on how she showed Paris from a tourist perspective, especially someone who has not had access to travel like this in the past. I know some readers didn’t enjoy that element, but it all felt really rooted in reality based on the characters perspectives.

The story was easy to follow, fast paced and relatively short, which kept me reading.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for providing an advance copy. It’s out April 15th. Opinions are my own!

Totally unlikable characters and plot twist after plot twist made for a quick and fun popcorn thriller. This would make a great Netflix movie! Entertaining and unpredictable, I give it five stars!

Thanks for the opportunity to read!

This book is exactly what you’d expect from a quick, popcorn thriller. We’ve got two awful American women and one French man caught in a tense game of cat-and-mouse. Each character has their own hidden agenda and secrets, and honestly, they all seem to think they’ll get away with crimes they clearly would get caught committing immediately.

That being said, it’s a super unique premise, a fast read, and I never once considered putting it down. It’s perfect for busting through a reading slump, and if you take it at face value, it’s an easy, enjoyable ride.

Wow this book was as suspenseful as I have read in a long time and not what i was expecting! So well=plotted, so many twists... it has hints of Gone Girl and So I Married an Axe Murderer. The dynamic between the sisters is incredibly tense, and this book is so much more than the "who done it" that I was expecting. Highly recommend.

Taylor arrives in Paris for her honeymoon alone. She's carrying stolen cash and she becomes obsessed with this seemingly perfect couple Cassie and Oliver. But she soon discovers that the relationship is not what it seems. As Taylor gets caught up in their secrets, she's put herself in danger that she could not have predicted.

This book was full of unsympathetic and unlikable characters. At no point did I ever get attached to anybody or feel connected In any way which sort of takes you out of the story. There were some very predictable moments in it, but that makes it no less enjoyable of a read.

They were still several moments in this book that were enjoyable and some plot twists that I didn't see coming, But I just cannot give it a full five stars. I would still recommend checking it out if it had all sounds interesting to you.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the ARC of The French Honeymoon by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau.

Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me. While the premise had promise, the plot ended up feeling confusing and disjointed. I struggled to connect with the characters or stay invested in the storyline. I wanted to love it, especially with the dreamy French setting, but it just didn’t deliver.

I really wish I had liked this more. I'm not sure if it was the narrative structure, which tried to be a little too mysterious for my taste, keeping the reader in the dark about what the stakes of this situation actually are, or the characters, who were pretty uninteresting to me. By halfway through I was confused instead of intrigued. I think the premise had a lot of promise but the execution didn't grab me, sadly. Thrillers are incredibly hard to structure in a way that grabs the reader and slowly ratchets up the suspense.

I had an incredible experience with Anso's book! It's always a delight to find a story that captivates you from start to finish, leaving you eagerly turning each page. The feeling of being so immersed in a world that you lose track of time is one of the great joys of reading. If you're left wanting more, perhaps her book Kisses and Croissants may pique your interest. Happy reading, and may your next read be just as engaging!

Three unlikable main characters, one of whom is slightly more terrible than the others. Come to think of it, the supporting characters in this book aren’t great people either.
Overall the shady cast made for an entertaining read. It wasn’t super fast paced or action packed but there were enough twists to keep you reading.

This will likely be a shorter review because by getting too much into it, I'll end up inadvertently spoiling this story.

This story alternates between three months ago and now. We see viewpoints from Taylor, Cassie, and Olivier. I don't usually enjoy dual timeframes, but it works in this book because the timeframe is shorter, and we're seeing the buildup to the ending in a clever way.

The author brings Paris to life, from the everyday characteristics to all of the touristy things that Cassie and Olivier do on their honeymoon. The author also does an excellent job with the three main characters. Throughout the story, I found myself liking them, hating them, and thinking they were nuts. I think one thing that fascinated me about this story is that it's generally three not great people's lives converging with insane consequences.

The ending is left somewhat open-ended, which I am torn on. I wish there had been more clarity, but it's also left me thinking about the story, and even caused me to dive back in to different parts.

If you enjoy stories that are fast-paced, and have twists that make you think, while still making sense, this would be a great book to check out.

Great premise with lots of potential. It was an okay read. Well done multiple POV was really enjoyable. As someone that reads a lot of thrillers, it was a bit predictable. If your looking for a quick read this may interest you.

Thank you to Netgalley, author and publishers for the opportunity to read this in advance.

Fast paced but also slow burn if that makes sense. The portrayal of Paris was a bit cliche for a French author but maybe that was the point. A quick read.

Ah Paris! Not everything or everyone is what they seem in this fast paced and twisty novel. Taylor has a bag of cash, Olivier has a visa problem and Cassie has her secrets too. It's a nicely atmospheric tale about three pretty unlikable people but you might just find yourself rooting for one of them. No spoilers but know the ending might not satisfy. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

This was a great twisty debut! While some were predictable, others surprised me! 🙌

The ending definitely leaves it up to the reader’s interpretation, but I still enjoyed it! Definitely recommend checking this one out! 👏

While the premise was intriguing this book fell flat for me. I found it too slow and hard to finish. It definitely left me wanting more and wishing for more excitement.

I loved the premise here and the tagline about Paris not always being a good idea was intriguing to me. You figure out almost immediately that none of the characters are very likable or even decent people but in a thriller, who cares? I found the pacing to be pretty fast and while some twists were surprising some weren’t but that was ok for me. I was assuming this would be about four stars for me until the ending and now I’m def bumping it down. I hate an ambiguous ending where you’re not sure what happened and that’s what we were given here. It could be seen as two different outcomes and I don’t like that at all, I want clear and concise answers. Blah. But if you enjoy that type of thing the rest of this was a pretty fun popcorn style wild thriller! The ending was just disappointing for me.

To post a review while one is still thinking about the book or to wait? I decided to not wait. I don't think my stars would change, but maybe my comments would? Three unlikeable characters in a very twisty situation with a lot of clues being given to the reader. Really, they should all be figured out well before they are revealed, but somehow I didn't catch most of them, which is surprising considering my own family had been involved in a somewhat related situation. (Can't tell you.......spoiler!) But as always, I am glad when authors do enough research to present situations accurately. I do really wish I had liked at least one of the characters in the book, I always like someone to root for, but there was no redeeming person. It still made for an engaging read, waiting to see where these three went next.
