Really enjoyed reading about the herbs, seeing the photos if not familiar and seeing also recipes to use for practical use. Teas you can make at home were helpful, especially when not feeling well. You may wish to consider a subsequent book or sequel that has tea sandwich recipes as well as tea recipes. Women tend to like these things! Very lovely, colorful photographs and very informative text.

I love a gardening/recipe book organized by seasons! This book will have you looking at the plants in your landscape differently because so many featured here are considered “weeds”.
This is a great addition to a gardening library. More word-heavy than picture-forward, there are great recipes ranging from tinctures to salad dressings to salves.
I’m looking forward to holding this book in my hands!
4 stars.

Forty-eight herbs are explored fully from history through planting advice to culinary or medicinal uses. The photographs by Miriam Doan are beautiful and most helpful. We start with Spring and go through each season. There’s also a very good explanation of the different types of preparation for medicinal uses. The cover is bright and eye catching.

Well organized and beautifully put together. The arrangement by season will make it easy to plan for planting. All these "weeds" that we have been raised to believe to poison or pull have useful purposes. The phots provide a visual to identify as well as a way to organize your garden. Definitely a useful tool and a way to use the herbs. This is essential for anyone that wants to live a more natural, healthy life. Thanks to the author. publisher and Netgalley

I really liked how the author introduces several types of herbs to try in each season. There are several cases where an herb crosses multiple seasons but for the sake of the theme, I get what they were trying to do. It gave me more ideas of herbs to try for my garden next year.

250+ pages of herbal apothecary and cooking recipes for each herb in their peak season. The pictures are both helpful and stunning. You can tell the author is extremely knowledgeable and explains everything with just the right amount of detail to not be overwhelming for us beginners. There are recipes for hair growth oils, lotions, tea for anxiety and stress, etc. And then the cooking recipes for cookies, salts, just so much more than I ever expected! I know I will personally be using this book for many years. It would be a wonderful “white elephant” gift or for anyone who enjoys gardening or wants to learn how to have some herbal recipes for ailments.

What a useful book! I am definitely adding it to my apothecary shelf. This book is broken into the four seasons and begins with spring. Each season discusses the herbs that will be prevalent during the season. Each herb is discussed in detail and includes recipes for uses- some for eating and some for apothecary uses. The author includes tips on starting your seeds, planting, using your herbal harvest, and storing your harvest. The information in this book is incredibly valuable. The photography is beautiful as well. The book is great for first time herb gardeners, like me, and seasoned (ha ha!) herb gardeners like my sister who has had herbs for years. I shared a tip from the book with her and it was something she didn't know.

This book is very informative and well thought out. It was also very easy to read and understand. I enjoyed how it was broken up by season instead of just alphabetical order as books like this tend to be. I definitely learned about some new plants that I plan on putting in my garden next year. Definitely a great reference for anyone who wants to grow and use herbs for more than just seasoning their food. I also think this book makes a good starting point for anyone who may be curious about herbs.

This is a lovely book that gives overviews of 48 herbs and how to grow, forage and use them. There are one or two recipes for each and they are divided by season. Many need to be purchased if you live in a temperate climate, especially the ones listed for winter. There were times when I wished for more information, like I have read that there’s one kind of horsetail to use medicinally and I have always thought I had the wrong kind growing near me. He writes as if all horsetail is the same. As one online foraging site says, ˋ It is not uncommon for the different varieties of the horsetail plant to be confused with one another. You must be able to accurately identify the variety of horsetail plant you are foraging because not all varieties are equally infused with either herbal or edible properties.´ There were several times this happened. In general though, it is a well illustrated, interesting, helpful book, especially for those new to herbalism.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

As someone who only recently discovered the joys of gardening a few years ago, this book is a treasure trove of information. I already grow many of these herbs so I loved the different recipe suggestions. I also learned about so many herbs I’ve never heard of that I now need to plant in my garden! The book was well organized and the photography is beautiful.
