Unfortunately, I couldn’t get into this story. I thought it would have been something a little different than what it was. I DNF at the 20% mark.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for providing me with an advance readers copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC!
This book was very mid to me; nothing too special. Overall, a fine romance.

This was a cute, quick read. I loved the idea of an older mentor. I enjoyed all of the characters. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

This was so incredibly charming and sweet! I love love love the premise, the characters were absolutely delightful and the story/lovestory was SWOONWORTHY!

DNF @ 55% Unfortunately, despite the very appealing pitch, I couldn't get into this book and ultimately decide to DNF. This book reads like a failed imitation of Emily Henry's Beach Read; it tries to be funny but ultimately fails. I spent a lot of time trying to get myself into the book but the authors writing wasn't my jam because, in my opinion, it was written as if she was writing an essay. It was dry and clunky, and when you consider that the main character made decision as if she was in middle school, this book was not a pleasant experience for me. Finally, for a romance novel, I hardly felt any chemistry between the female main character and her love interest who seemed to me like a cardboard cutout more than anything. Ultimately, nothing in this bool retained my attention enough for me to continue spending my time, but I hope other readers will find this book more entertaining than I do.

I always find it fun to read books about authors or the book world, but this book just didn’t do it for me. The main character was infuriating to me and the constant info dumps about her feelings and random stuff that didn’t have anything to do with the plot were making it feel like the book was dragging on.
The relationship also didnt make me feel anything and really lacked any chemistry in my opinion.
The whole thing with Martin and switching plots was cute but not enough to redeem the story for me. I also found Allie weirdly rude to him?? Which just make me feel a bit icky.
All in all, not my cup of tea.

Eleanor Goymer's The Plot Twist has all the makings of a fun, classic rom-com. The premise is charming, with a plot that promises witty banter, heartwarming moments, and, of course, the kind of romance that keeps you turning pages. However, I found myself struggling to fully engage with the story at times.
One of the biggest hurdles for me was the length of the chapters. Each one felt a bit too long, which made the pacing feel slower than I would’ve liked. I tend to enjoy more concise chapters in rom-coms, as they keep the energy flowing and the tension building. Unfortunately, with this one, the length sometimes took me out of the story.
That said, the plot itself is packed with all the right elements—unexpected encounters, endearing characters, and, yes, plenty of humor. If you’re a fan of the classic rom-com formula, this book delivers on that front, and there are definitely some sweet moments that fans of the genre will appreciate.
The characters have a lot of potential, but I found myself wishing for a bit more depth or development as the story progressed. While they were likeable, I didn't always feel as invested in their journey as I would have liked to be.
Overall, The Plot Twist is a cute, feel-good story that has all the right ingredients but might have benefitted from a faster pace and tighter editing. Fans of rom-coms will likely find it a pleasant read, but for me, it didn't fully hit the mark.

3.5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. It was a messy, silly, fun story about two writers swapping plots.
However, I was also disappointed with some aspects. For example, the plot twist was predictable, and I felt that Will and Allie's relationship was, at first glance, more of a lust than a love affair.
Overall a fast, fun read.

I was really looking forward to this story, however couldn't get into the story or the characters. This one fell a bit flat for me.

A book about books? Sounds like a dream!
We meet an author who’s completely stuck—writer’s block has her frozen, unsure how to get back on track. Then she crosses paths with an older writer, once a bestselling sensation, though now… well, let’s just say I’m not sure he still has what it takes to win over readers. And they’re just two of the many fascinating characters that fill these pages.
I love stories where you can feel the passion, and this one delivers. The characters are deeply invested in what they do, brimming with emotion and drive. They’re bold, vivid, and utterly compelling—something I always appreciate. Their struggles are real, but they also bring warmth, humor, and a strong belief in both themselves and happy endings.
A beautiful tale about writing, but also about love in all its forms.

No Spice/🌶️
This was such a fun, light-hearted, uplifting book and so easy to read as well.
Perfect as I had just come off the back of heavy and dark.
The storyline was a bit predictable but it was lovely. I really enjoyed the relationship between Martin and Allie and felt it added some additional character to the story. I really like how she wrote and eventually was able to share the story with Martin and his wife. Will was adorably cute and I see a long future between him and Allie.

The Plot Twist had an intriguing premise, but ultimately, it felt too short to fully deliver on its potential. The central idea was strong, yet the execution lacked the necessary depth—particularly in the build-up to the big twist, which could have been much more impactful with additional development.
The romance suffered from the same issue. The connection between the main characters felt rushed, leaning heavily into insta-love, which made their declarations of love feel unearned. A little more time spent on their relationship would have made their chemistry more believable.
That said, there were elements I really enjoyed. The writing style was engaging, and the FMC’s inner monologue often had me laughing out loud. The friendship between Allie and Jess was also a highlight—Jess, in particular, felt like the more grounded and supportive friend, which added a nice dynamic.
The book’s critiques of patriarchal forces in the publishing industry were insightful and relevant, though the resolution felt a bit too tidy. It would have been more compelling if the characters had to make real sacrifices to challenge the system, adding a layer of realism to the story.
Overall, while The Plot Twist was a fun read with witty writing and strong feminist themes, it left me wanting more—another 100 pages of depth and development could have made this a much stronger novel.

I received an advanced copy of this book for review. This is my opinion.
I read most of this book in an afternoon; It’s that sort of light, easy reading that keeps you sucked into the story!
Romance author Allie is stuck on her next book—and it’s due soon. When she meets Martin, a former thriller bestseller, who is also stuck, they agree to swap ideas and work together. Their friendship is very cute. Along with Allie’s writing woes, her editor is leaving and the new guy at her publishing house is truly terrible. Oh and she meets a really cute waiter.
I think my favorite people in this book were Martin and his wife Angie. Their relationship seemed very sweet and I hope to be as in love as they are after 35 years of marriage.
Allie and Will’s relationship is very cute and fast paced. The bit about the vol au vents throughout gave me a good chuckle, especially as I clocked who he was pretty early on.
This is one of those books that’s a bit more on the women’s fiction side of the aisle than the romance side, but that’s quite alright. I really enjoyed reading it, and would recommend for anyone looking for a bit of light drama and new friendships, with a touch of romance. For fans of the Sophies— Cousens or Kinsella!
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins and One More Chapter for the ARC!

This book has a super unique plot! I loved the characters and how the FMC improved and grew through the whole book. It was super intriguing and I read it in two days! I couldn't put it down

Unfortunately this one didn't work for me, despite the premise being so promising.
I found the female lead really annoying and thought there was no way that a successful novelist and intelligent woman would make such poor decisions. She also came across as judgy and a bit of a snob. So what if he was 'just' a caterer!
It was very predictable and I'd figured out the connection within the first few pages.
The romance seemed an afterthought which was a shame as the cover and blurb suggest otherwise.
I liked Martin and his wife and Allie's long suffering friend, Jess, but I couldn't bring myself to care about anyone else.

Readers, are you looking for the quintessential romance novel? The one book that will re-affirm your love for the beautiful power of a romance book? Well I have it here, with The Plot Twist. Victoria Walter's newest book is a love letter to romance readers and it needs to be on your Summer reading list!
Stevie Phillips has landed her dream job of working as a publicist for Turn the Pages. She's excited for her first day, but not all goes to plan when she discovers her ex-boyfriend is her new boss! Now to help a mid-list romance author that no-one believes in, Stevie must put her anger aside and try to work with Noah. However, what is the line between love and hate and will they cross it?
Oh Em Gee! I really, really loved The Love Interest. It was a total love letter to Pride & Prejudice fans, and The Plot Twist is definitely a love letter to romance readers. This story centres around Stevie and her romantic adventures. For readers of The Love Interest we do get cameos from Liv and Aiden [swoon!!], but either book could be read as a standalone... although trust me when I say you will want to read both!
My favourite thing about The Plot Twist is it is a bookish book about books....
I'd just had a real life meet-cute. In a bookshop! It was what a romance book lover's dreams were made of.
It also breaks down barriers about what the world thinks of romance books. As an avid reader of romance at least a few times [okay more than that] someone has looked down at me for my choice of reading material. I love romance and I love happy endings, and The Plot Twist shares what is so great about this wonderful genre!
Stevie Phillips is a wonderful heroine. She's strong, smart and independent and was a delight to watch, as she gets so excited about promoting midlist author, Deborah Day. Her energy is simply infectious, and I love the energy she brings to everyone at Turn the Pages.
Best described as sweet and spicy, The Plot Twists brings in toe curling moments with spicy romantic moments, and I loved every second of it! I sure hope there will be more books with these characters, as I just can't get enough of them! Another perfect romance from Victoria Walters!

Set in a similar rom-com scenario one could only dream of a film/tv adaptation of, The Plot Twist ticked off what I love about publishing dramas. Whilst the plot was predictable, it still kept me going - Martin and Allie were the cutest friend dynamic, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Martin's love story with his wife - definitely couple goals there, but this was where I found the most chemistry. Allie and Will were cute enough, but there was something there that didn't quite add up to be couple goals, but I'm guessing that within time, there could be.

The story has a strong premise and believable characters. I liked the multi-generational connection between Allie and Martin and I liked that there was another story related to a long-standing successful marriage as a sub-story. The only trouble is that this author needs a little more practice with her writing and she fell into routine tropes too often. Allie routinely retreated into her own thoughts and was called out for not paying attention by whomever she was with. Does this happen? Sure. Does it happen 3-4 times within the first few chapters? Unlikely and it starts to get annoying for the reader. There were also some big leaps in the storyline. When we meet Martin, he tells of his love for his wife and his wife is supportive of his career and the next they are trying to save their marriage. There didn't seem to be any indication that the wife's feelings had changed but suddenly, it was crisis mode.
Did not finish.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️ nothing in the first half (DNF after 50%)
🤬 1.5 (few and far between)
Thank you to NetGalley, HaperCollins UK and One More Chapter for an arc in exchange for an honest review!! 🤍
Honestly, I had high hopes for this one. The book cover is BEAUTIFUL and synopsis is very intriguing!! When I started it the book I had trouble really getting into it. I think it’s probably a case of right book, but wrong time.
The meet cute with Allie and Will was sooo RomCom esc and I loved that!!! Although, I did get put off by how it seemed more like lust at first sight than love at first sight. I just felt like if the pov had been Will’s and he had those thoughts about Allie right away it would’ve been icky…
Overall, I loved the premise and the friendship that Allie had with Martin!! It was really refreshing to see the dynamic in a romance novel.
Another thing that bothers me is the “plot twist” comes very early on and is pretty noticeable to everyone, BUT Allie 😅. This is the main reason I couldn’t finish the book, I just got a little irritated.
Overall, if you want a palate cleanser book that’s a quick read and has a few cute moments then this is for you.

The plot is a neat concept and I loved how it unfolded. I figured out the Plot Twist pretty early, before Allie did. Would definitely recommend!
